Till the end of the world part 8

TILL THE END OF THE WORLD

Dawn walked home from school exhausted; she had stayed up all of last night, helping Xander and Anya research.

It was the day of the eclipse and everyone was nervous. Last night Spike and Buffy had collected all of the weapons, Tara and Willow had cooked up some spooky spells and Giles had made a plan to get the explosives and where to put them all.

Dawn was worried, she was afraid that something might happen to Buffy or Spike. Suddenly something grabbed her and threw her head against the tree, knocking her unconscious. Her backpack fell to the floor and she disappeared into the shadows.

Spike paced the room of the magic shop, something was wrong and it was bothering him. Buffy watched him in silence and she knew something was bugging him,

“Spike, what’s wrong?” Buffy was worried.

“Something is wrong, I can feel it.”

Suddenly his eyes flew open and he turned paler than usual,

“Oh my God, Dawn.”

He yelled and ran out the shop. Buffy was confused but chased after him, he grabbed his blanket off the couch and threw it over his shoulders. All the Scoobies watched him with a worried look on his face, Buffy screamed past them and they all followed.

Spike ran the way to Dawn’s school. He stopped dead in his tracks and felt his heart die all over again. Buffy and the others stopped next to him as he bowed his head.

He turned to them clutching a backpack, Dawn’s backpack.

Buffy’s heart broke when she looked at Spike, he loved Dawn so much and now everyone could see. Buffy also noticed the anger boiling inside of him. Buffy burst into tears and Spike ran to her and cradled her in his arms. They all looked so lost, Dawn was gone and there was nothing any of them could do.

Spike returned to his crypt after the sun had gone down, he had told them he had some weapons they could use. But really he had just wanted to leave them all, to be alone with his thoughts. He walked into his crypt and sat down in his chair. He burst into tears at the thought of Dawn; once again he had failed to protect her, his best friend, his little sister. He got up and threw his table angrily across the room, cursing himself for letting this happen. He finally thought his life was falling into place. He had the girl of his dreams; he had his best friend whom he loved with all his heart. He even had the Scoobies. But none of that mattered now that Dawn was gone, he felt like staking himself right then and there. But then he realized that Dawn would never forgive him, he wanted her back and was damned if he would let an evil and ugly green blooded beast put his hands onto his little girl.

Buffy was worried about Spike, they all were,

“You don’t think he’ll go postal do you?” Asked Xander worriedly, he had come to like the vampire lately.

“N-no, he won’t risk endangering Dawn.” Said Tara defending her favorite vampire.

Buffy was on another planet; she was worried about Dawn.

“We will get her back you know.” Said Willow resting her hand reassuringly on Buffy’s shoulder.

Buffy reached up and held Willow’s hand. She wasn’t so sure anymore.

Buffy got up and walked out the door,

“I’m gonna go and check on Spike.”

Buffy left and walked slowly down the street looking up at the blue sky, birds flew up and swooped down. She walked into Spike’s cemetery and looked around. It was quiet and still.

Suddenly she heard a smash coming from Spike’s crypt. He was angry, damn angry. She opened the door quietly and looked inside. His table was against the wall, shattered. He was pacing around and around he had a cigarette in his one hand and his other hand was on his head. She could see that he had been crying, and she started to cry again. Spike turned around after hearing a small whimpering sound. She ran to him and dived into his arms.

“We just have to get her back, we have to.”

Spike entwined his fingers in her hair.

“We will love, we will.”

Spike and Buffy returned to the Magic box after the sun went down. Every one was patiently waiting for them. They all stared at them when they walked in holding hands. They didn’t even notice, it was like a sub-conscious action.

Willow and Tara beamed at each other, and Anya clapped her hands happily. Giles already knew deep down inside so he wasn’t surprised. Xander secretly smiled to himself, he trusted Spike, even though he hated to admit it.

“Well finally.” said Willow.

Buffy and Spike looked confused,

“Hello, holding hands? Usually a sign of coupleness.”

Spike and Buffy looked down at their hands,

“So are you guys okay with this?”

They all nodded and smiled; Buffy let out a sign of relief.

“Good.”

Spike and Buffy sat down next to each other and placed the bag of weapons on the floor.

“Well right, now lets get started. Willow and Tara will use the spell they came up with to turn Xander and Anya invisible while they plant the bombs. Spike and Buffy will try to find Dawn, and I’ll help Willow and Tara with some other spells to help. Okay?”

They all nodded,

“Well let’s go then.” Buffy said happily

They all walked out and climbed into Spike’s car. It was quite a cramped space but it was the only car around. Xander groaned when Anya sat on him,

“Gees An, will ya be a little more gentle?”

Anya smiled,

“Sorry love but I can’t help it.”

“Okay, is everyone inside and accounted for?” Asked Spike,

“Yeah, we’re all here.”

Spike started the engine and drove off, Spike was driving, Giles was in the passenger seat, in the back Anya sat on Xander’s lap, Willow on Tara’s and Buffy sat in the middle.

They drove along the road discussing tactics.

“Okay, so Anya and Xander get mojo’d and go to plant the bombs, Spike, Willow, Tara, Giles and I will go find Dawn, Spike and I will fight and Giles, Willow and Tara go and do your other mojo stuff. Is that all right with everyone?”

“Yeah.” They all said at once.

They arrived at the park and noticed the large group of creatures up on the hill.

“Bloody hell, that’s a lot of sodding demons.” Said Spike amazed at the amount of demons gathered.

“Right, good luck everyone, and no matter what happens know that I love you all.”

“Don’t say that, it brings back bad memories.” Said Willow looking at Buffy.

They all climbed out of the car. Spike grabbed Buffy’s arm and pulled her into a passionate kiss,

“I love you Buffy, I always will with every ounce of my heart.”

Buffy kissed him again,

“I know Spike.”

They all witnessed the affection passed between them, they all grew sad.

They walked through the park silently, feelings of love and friendship were heard in the silence and they all knew how each other felt. Tara and Willow stopped just before arriving at the ceremony, they began to chant something and Anya and Xander disappeared. They all looked around,

“Xander? Anya? Are you still there?”

“Yeah were here, we’ll get going now. To plant the bombs you know.”

They heard the soft patter of footprints and watched the empty park. They all began walking and put on their brown cloaks that they had found at the back of the Magic box. They all walked into the crowd of demons and looked around cautiously for Dawn. She was no where to be seen. They all walked in between the crowds of demons and waited for something to happen. A demon knocked into Spike,

“Hey, watch where ya goin” Shouted the demon.

They all waited for Spike to retaliate and hit the demon and blow their cover. But he didn’t, he bowed down in an apologetic style and kept walking. Suddenly everything went quiet; they all looked around cautiously until they saw him. A huge white demon, Perturbatus. He lifted his hands up to silence the group of demons. They all obeyed, no questions asked. He began to speak in a strange tongue, and Spike started to translate:

“Fellow demons, the night we have been waiting for is finally upon us. The night of moon obstruction. We have waited a century for this, for this is the night when I will rise up into power and seize this pitiful world. The humans will fear us and flee but we will be there watching, waiting tearing them limb from limb every chance we get. Unfortunately we don’t have the slayer,”

A loud noise of objecting and upset demons ran up on the hill, once again Perturbatus raised his hands again,

“But we have her sister, strangely she has the same blood. This is even better than the slayer and this time there will be no interruptions. We will have this planet, and the humans. Long live taureum obitus!”

A cheer went up from the crowd and they all clapped their hands. Suddenly Dawn appeared and the crowd cheered even louder.

Dawn was tied to a strange circular stand, she was struggling to break free, but it didn’t work.

Spike and Buffy flew forward to the where Perturbatus stood, Willow and the others followed and the demons ran to protect their master, but Willow and Tara and Giles chanted a little spell and they ran into a invisible barrier. Anya and Xander appeared next to them just after and helped to battle. Buffy fought with five of the guards and Xander and Anya shared another five. Spike went straight to the leader who had the knife in the air. Spike ran into him and knocked him over, Perturbatus punched Spike and kicked him in the ribs. Spike got up and punched it back, they fought for a long time, punching and kicking.

Buffy finished her five and ran to help Dawn but was swatted away by Perturbatus. Another ten ran and jumped Buffy and she was busy all over again. Perturbatus swung Spike into a wall and Spike landed with a thud and heard and felt the bones in his back breaking. He coughed and spluttered and spat the blood out of his mouth. He looked over at Perturbatus as he swung the knife down on Dawn; Spike jumped up and ran towards Dawn feeling the anger boil within. He jumped in front of the knife as it was about to impale Dawn. The knife cut into his flesh and he moaned. Perturbatus looked angry,

“No, you have ruined everything. Why do you help these mortals?”

Spike stood there smiling,

“Well foiled again my dear Perturbatus. Why do I help them, well for many reasons, they are my friends, I love the slayer and the girl you were about to cut into is my best friend and is like my little sister. I would risk my un-life again and again if it meant saving them.”

The demon growled and stabbed Spike again and again. Spike whole chest was covered with blood and holes made from the knife. Finally Perturbatus stabbed Spike in his neck and he growled low in his throat. Spike smiled at him through his pain, he pulled the knife out of his throat and grinned again evilly,

“You want some blood, you can have mine.”

Spike stabbed Perturbatus and he screamed, he writhed like a worm and fell to the ground, his face was distorted and he bellowed with pain. He looked up at Spike,

“Why do you love the mortals, why have you done this to me?”

Spike smiled sweetly through his pain,

“No one ties up Niblit and threatens to kill her, and no one throws my slayer into a tree.”

Spike lent down and full of rage and anger he ripped the demon’s head off of his shoulders with his bare hands. The lifeless body dropped to the floor again and Spike tossed his head into the crowd. Spike fell to the floor in a pile of blood and growled. Buffy ran to him as the others pulled Dawn off of the metal stand,

“Spike, why did you do it, why?” asked Dawn through her tears,

Spike smiled at her and Xander pulled him up,

“Come on fang face, we’ve got three minutes till this place blows and I advise we leave.”

Buffy grabbed the other side of Spike and Xander and Buffy carried him away. The demons yelled and tried to get through the force field, but the witches held up. They all ran for their lives down the hill and stumbled at the bottom, they carried on running and fled to the car. They dived behind it and waited, there was a huge blast that blew through the air. The car shook violently and they all ducked as pieces of trees and such blew above their heads.

They all looked around once it was quiet; the park was filled with trees and rubble. There was dust everywhere, and it was silent, deadly silent. Buffy looked around,

“Is everyone alright?” she asked concerned.

“Yeah, I think so.” Said Willow with her voice shaking. Tara and Giles just nodded their heads. Dawn did and said nothing; she was just too shocked.

“This was so much better than the last apocalypse.” Said Xander trying to lighten the mood.

“At least no one died.” Said Anya

Buffy looked down at Spike. He was covered with blood and his wounds gapped open. Buffy voice shook as she spoke,

“Spike, Spike.”

There was no answer from the beaten man,

“Spike, come on. Answer me, please.”

Buffy started to panic, and she buried her head in his hair. She cried softly weeping for her vampire, the vampire whom she loved with all her heart. He stirred and Buffy pulled herself away, he was staring at her with his beautiful blue eyes.

“Spike, I thought you were dead.”

Spike smiled with difficulty,

“Technically love, I’m already dead. And I don’t think that this is a big pile of dust talking to you now”

His voice was weak and tender,

“Spike, why did you do a stupid thing like that?”

Buffy had started to cry again,

“You know why I did it love, till the end of the world. I meant it then and I mean it now and forever.”

Dawn came up behind Spike and hugged his gently,

“Thank you Spike, I’ll never forget this. I love you so much.” Dawn started to cry and Spike weakly stroked her hair,

“I love you too Niblit, always will.”

Buffy kissed Spike gently,

“I love you so much Spike, and I think I always have and always will.”

This statement took Spike by surprise and he kissed her back,

“And I love you too Buffy Summers.”

Three months later

Buffy woke up with a start and looked all around her room; there was a storm out side and the shadows of the trees danced along her walls. She looked next to her and saw her clock; it was 8:30 am. The clouds blocked the sun and a small breeze made her shiver. She looked next to her and smiled, she could see the sleeping vampire lying motionless.

She had been so scared after the battle; it had looked like she wasn’t going to make it for a while. He had five broken ribs and eight stab wounds to the chest and they still weren’t properly healed. They had been together almost every second of every day since, and each day their relationship got better and better. There was a soft tap on the door and it opened to reveal Dawn. She was in her pajamas and stood there with a frightened expression on her face. She slowly walked inside and looked at Buffy,

“I had a bad dream, about Spike.” She said softly

Buffy smiled at her and nodded her head. Dawn climbed into the bed next to Spike and Spike looked at her and smiled,

“No worries Niblit, I’m still here.”

Dawn smiled and Buffy, Spike and Dawn snuggled in the bed together. They were like a family.

“I love you Buffy.” Spike whispered in Buffy’s ear,

Buffy wrapped her arms around him and kissed him passionately,

“I love you too Spike.”

Dawn smiled to herself, these were the two people she loved most in this world and they were a couple. Life just couldn’t get better than this.

Spike settled down to sleep, he was so happy. He had the woman he loved, a best friend. Then he also had the Scoobies and the watcher. He had a comfortable house to live in since he moved in with Dawn and Buffy, a supply of blood and a whole new life. He was the happiest man in the world.

Buffy sighed, life was good, she had Spike, the man she loved. She had Dawn, her sister. She had Giles, who was like a father. She had the Scoobies, her best friends. Everything had fallen into place. She was glad they brought her back from the dead, she was glad that Spike had helped her to keep on living, but most of all she was thankful, for her family and friends.

THE END.
