“Why does he have to come with?”
Buffy asked irritated. Dawn elbowed her sister in the ribs,
“Spike is my friend and I need his help. I don’t know what dress to get for the school dance, and I need a males opinion.”
Buffy sighed and looked over at Spike, he seemed so out of place here in the mall. Dawn pulled them both into a shop which was filled with dresses and shoes. Dawn started to walk around picking up potential dresses.
After all three of the shoppers hands were full of dresses, Dawn made her way to the changing rooms.
She poked her head out of the curtain and looked at Buffy and Spike. They sat on the couch facing the changing room, none of them spoke, none of them made eye contact, or even pretended that the other one was there.
Dawn sighed and walked out. She wore a long black dress with a long slit up the side. She raised her eyesbrows seeking attention. She got it. Buffy and Spike both stared straight at the slit and shook their heads,
“It’s too…”
Buffy started.
“Revealing.”
Spike finished. Buffy looked over at him and nodded,
“Definitely.”
Dawn was disappointed about the dress, but was happy that they agreed on something.
She went back into the changing room and came back wearing a short green dress. Spike and Buffy both smiled, but as Dawn turned around and they saw the low back they both said a firm no. Dawn sighed and went back inside.
After a few more dresses Dawn was getting irritated. She had tried on most of her dresses and they had found a fault with everyone. From too short, to too revealing, to too ugly. She just could not win.
She looked out at Buffy and Spike, they were sitting close and both had smiles on their faces.
She had to smile, they made a great couple.
She found a pretty blue dress with no sleeves and a slit that didn’t go far up enough to create a fuss. She stepped out and Buffy and Spike smiled. She turned and their smiles grew even bigger,
“Perfect. It looks great on you Niblit.”
Dawn hugged Spike. Buffy hugged her as well,
“You look so grown up. It really does look great. But how much does it cost?”
Dawn’s face fell, she had finally found the perfect dress, but not the perfect price.
Buffy saw the price and gasped,
“Dawn it’s too expensive…”
Spike put a hand on Buffy’s arm.
“Do you really want the dress?”
He asked, and Dawn nodded.
“If it’s okay with Buffy the I’d love to buy it for you.”
He looked over at Buffy and she smiled,
“Thank you.”
Spike smiled and received a hug and a kiss on the cheek from Dawn,
“Thank you Spike.”
Buffy smiled over at him again and she mouthed another silent thank you. So Dawn got her dress, Buffy got off the hook for paying, and Spike got a friendship from Buffy. And all was happy in the land of Buffy.
