Troubled thoughts
The doctor carefully checked Spikes pulse. There wasn’t one,
“Oh no, Well I suppose we better call it, time of death 10:30pm.”
The doctor sighed; he lost a lot of patients like that.
The nurse wheeled Spike’s “corpse” into the morgue and put him on a sliding slab and shoved the slab back into the wall.
Buffy didn’t sleep well that night; her dreams were filled with memories and prophecies.
But Spike always seemed to be there, in each dream coaching her to live and he was always taking care of her. Even when things were at there worst he was there, right by her side.
She tossed and turned all night trying to shake off the warm feelings she had towards him, it was scarier than her scariest dreams and she tried to fight it with all her will power. Unfortunately it didn’t work and she realized this was one feeling she couldn’t ignore or put aside. But what was she gonna do?
Spike woke up with a headache that could raise the dead. He opened his eyes to darkness and felt around him. He was in a metal box, closed in. Spike was claustrophobic, it was strange for a vampire to be claustrophobic but he couldn’t help it. Closed spaces had always scared him.
He started to kick the box and pound it with his fists,
“Help, get me out of this sodding box, bloody hell, open up.”
He felt himself panic and was getting angry,
“Open this bloody coffin and let me the hell out.’
A confused nurse looked at the metal wall, which contained all the corpses, and got a shrill down her spine. She carefully got up and moved toward the door. He rested her ear to the opening and heard screaming. He face drained, she was white as a sheet. She carefully turned the key and slowly opened the box to reveal a man, very much alive.
He sat up quickly and turned to her,
“Thank God, I thought I was gonna die in there.”
He suddenly realized what he had said and started laughing.
He noticed the look on the nurse’s face and decided to play with her,
“Well, I wouldn’t want to die again”
The nurse screamed and ran out of the room.
This made Spike feel good; He hadn’t made someone scream for a very long time.
He got up and started to walk towards the door, when he sighted a piece of paper on the ground. He bent down to pick it up.
He burst into laughter; it was his death certificate.
It read:
William Bloody (that was the name he had given the doctor when he had brought Buffy in)
Died 21 September,
Time of death: 10:30pm
Spike thought this was hilarious,
“Will you look at that, I’m dead again.”
He said to himself.
He walked to the door and ran up the stairs and started walking toward Buffy’s room.
As he walked in he stopped short, Buffy was asleep and was truly beautiful, and it was still unreal to him that she was alive again. Every time he looked at her it was like the first time. Her beauty astounded him and every time he saw her it took his breath away.
He walked up to her and gently kissed her forehead, luckily she was asleep or she would have staked him. He sat in the chair next to Buffy; he could stare at her forever.
He grabbed hold of her hand and kissed it. Her hands were so soft, and his hands covered hers, he loved her so much.
Buffy woke up the next morning feeling refreshed and relaxed. She felt something in her hand and looked over to see Spike, he was fast asleep on the chair by her bed. At least he had come back; at least she knew he cared.
Buffy had to smile at him, he was so sweet, not to mention gorgeous. His hand was warm and it comforted her. She was staring at him when he suddenly opened his eyes and looked directly at her, she felt as if he were looking into her soul.
“Hey” he said, “How are you feeling?”
Buffy smiled,
“I’m feeling better now that you are here.”
Spike smiled and squeezed her hand gently.
“Where were you last night? She asked
Spike smiled,
“This shall explain a little, it’s a present for you.”
He smiled at her naughtily as he handed her his death certificate.
Buffy looked at it and started to laugh,
“You died?”
He smiled,
“Well the doctor saw my leg and took me in to have it stitched up, much to my resentment. He put me under anaesthetic and thought I had died ‘cause I have no pulse.”
They both started to laugh.
“Well that certainly explains a lot, I thought you didn’t care.”
Spike smiled seductively,
“You know I do Baby, you know I do.”
Spike always had a way of making her feel special.
Spike just stared at Buffy, and Buffy just stared at Spike. They were having a conversation without words, it was special.
Suddenly there was a knock on the door, and Spike dived under the bed.
Buffy yells,
“Come in”
The doctor walks in and gives her a smile,
“I hope you are feeling better, I brought the release forms for you.”
He walked up to Buffy and handed her the forms,
“Just sign here and here.”
Buffy signed the forms and handed them back to him,
“I’m just gonna get dressed and then I will call my friends to come and get me.”
He smiled and nodded,
“Just take it easy for a while.”
“Sure, and thanks again.”
“Don’t worry it was my pleasure.”
His smile was so sweet it was sickening.
He walked out, and Spike jumped out from under the bed.
“What a cheek, he goes and kills me and doesn’t even tell you, bloody moron.”
Buffy began to giggle,
“Hay, that’s not bloody funny.” Spike said angrily
“Uh, yes it is.” Buffy giggled again.
“It’s not everyday a person dies you know.” Spike couldn’t help but laugh.
“Ok” Buffy said; “turn around so I can get dressed.”
Spike smiled at her,
“Ah, can’t I watch?”
He loved making her squirm.
“No! Sorry but that’s never gonna happen.”
He sighed,
“Oh all right, just don’t get your nickers in a twist.”
He turned around and faced the curtain, his head was really bothering him now, the pain brought tears to his eyes.
She noticed that there was something wrong but she didn’t want to pry. She just figured he was grumpy like vampires get sometimes.
She finished getting dressed and turned to him, he wasn’t the same cocky vampire he usually was, and it was bugging her.
“I’m gonna go phone Xander now ok?”
Spike turned around and smiled
“Sure. I’ll wait here, oh and ask him to bring a blanket, some of us are sensitive to light.”
She smiled and walked out, he was definitely hiding something and he didn’t want her to know. She walked to the phones with her mind buzzing with questions. Spike was trying to act normal but she could see right through him. She picked up the receiver and dialed Xander’s number; it rang a few times before he picked up.
“Hello.”
“Hi Xander it’s me, can you come and pick me up?”
Xander sounded half-asleep,
“Um sure, how ya feelin’?”
Buffy took a while to answer,
“Fine, a bit tired but fine, and um please bring a blanket, I have a friend who doesn’t like the sun very much? Ok so I’ll see you in a couple of minutes. Bye”
She put down the phone quickly; she didn’t wanna talk anymore. She just didn’t know why she was letting Spikes bad mood bother her so much, she didn’t know why but it hurt.
She walked in quietly and saw Spike holding his head in pain; she hid behind the door not wanting him to know she was there.
Spike was holding his head and pulling at his hair,
“Bloody hell, piece of shit chip. I feel like my heads gonna explode.”
Buffy shut the door silently and stood outside, that’s why Spike is acing so weird, his chip is hurting him.
She then went to the door and noisily opened the door to let him know she was there. Spike was deathly pale.
“What’s up? You look so pale.”
He smiled sweetly,
“I’m just a little hungry is all, nothing to worry about.”
You must be mistaken” she said with a grin, “I wasn’t worried.”
He looked at his feet and shook his head,
Buffy laughed,
“What? No cocky come back, gees you must really be hungry.”
Spike didn’t sat anything, he just stared at her speechless.
She smiled again,
“I didn’t think so.”
Spike was getting irritated; she was in such a bitchy mood. He couldn’t think straight ‘cause the pain in his head was insanely painful. He couldn’t even think of something cocky to say back. Maybe he was just slipping, he’d let her win a few rounds, by then he’d be back, better than ever.
Xander and Anya strolled into the room a few minutes later, surprised to see Spike as well as Buffy.
“Where’d ya go last night?” Xander asked
“Well apparently I died.” Replied Spike
Xander looked confused,
“Long story”
Xander nodded, he wasn’t interested anymore.
Xander walked over to the window,
“Maybe we should get some light in here, it’s awfully dark.”
As Xander said this he grinned at Spike, but Spike didn’t seem to care or even hear.
Buffy looked over to Xander with a worried look; they both seemed to notice how Spike was acting. Suddenly Buffy wanted to leave as soon as she could, the hospital was bringing back some bad memories.
“Hey um, I wanna go home. Now”
Xander threw Spike the blanket,
“You heard the lady.”
They all walked out of the room and Spike threw the blanket over himself. The hospital had huge windows, which let the sun in; he wasn’t taking any chances. They walked down the long corridor, and people stared at Spike as if he were insane.
An old couple stopped walking when they saw him and stared. This irritated Spike no end. He turned looked at them and pulled a zap at them. They were horrified and started walking again. This put a smile of Spikes face. Buffy punched his arm,
“Ouch, what was that for?”
Buffy shook her head,
“How could you have done that to the old couple, you are such a jerk.”
“Well they were looking at me funny.” Replied Spike trying to defend himself.
Buffy suddenly burst into laughter, and this was not expected.
Buffy looked at him with a big smile.
“You’re so sensitive.”
Spike just shook his head at her, he couldn’t stay mad at her. It was moments like this when he realized how much he loved her.
Suddenly they reached the outside and Spike ran for the car, he could already feel himself burning.
He got there and realized that they were all still walking slowly,
“Come on, come on, hurry up, some of us are burning here.”
Xander looked at Anya,
“Hey An, why don’t we stand here a while and talk.”
Anya looked confused,
“We can’t, Spike will burn.”
Xander felt defeated and walked to the car. He opened the car and Spike jumped in. He felt relieved to get into the car. He sighed.
They all got into the car and drove to the cemetery in silence. By the time they had gotten there, Spike was even paler, even Anya noticed. He got out and turned to Xander,
“Hey thanks.” He walked away slowly and disappeared. Xander looked at them in amazement,
“Did he just say thanks, something must be seriously wrong.”
Buffy sighed,
“Well after I spoke to you on the phone I went back to the room and saw Spike holding his head in pain. The kind of pain he gets when he hurts a human. It was scary.”
Xander looked and her seriously.
“Well maybe he had just killed somebody, it had the same affect on him?”
Anya shook her head,
“He is acting weird, it wasn’t from eating somebody. Maybe something is wrong with his chip?”
They stopped outside her house and she walked inside, waving to them as they drove away she was glad to be home.
Spike walked inside and closed the door behind him. Suddenly he let out a scream. He had wanted to do that for a while, but didn’t want anyone to find out anything.
His head ached so much that he felt like he wanted to die.
Suddenly he felt the adrenaline bubbling inside and he felt angry for no reason. He lashed out and punched the wall. He felt his flesh tear and little pieces of concrete jam into his hand. It felt good, but it didn’t make him feel any better.
Buffy walked into the house and Dawn rushed forward to embrace her. Buffy gave her a kiss on the cheek.
“How are you feeling?” asked Dawn, pulling her sister onto the couch.
Buffy smiled,
“A whole lot better, I feel terrific.”
She lied she felt fine but she was worried about Spike. And she knew how worried Dawn got, ever since she came back.
Dawn smiled she was glad.
“So did you find out what happened to Spike last night?”
This was one person she didn’t want to talk about.
“Oh, he died.”
Dawn felt the tears welling up in her eyes, how could Buffy be so calm, she obviously had hated him.
Buffy was surprised by the look on Dawn’s face.
Buffy started to laugh,
“Dawn Spike was already dead.”
Dawn looked at her and burst into laughter, how could she have been so dumb?
“You really care about him don’t you?”
Dawn looked down at her feet,
“Who do you think took your place when you were gone? Who do you think looked after me? He’s like a big brother slash father. Kept me out of trouble.”
Buffy smiled, she had no idea Spike had done this, she knew he had watched over Dawn but this was amazing, he was amazing.
She felt herself falling for him more and more, she was confused. She hated Spike, well at least she did.
Dawn smiled at her sister,
“I have to go, I’m going to Carries now. See ya.”
Dawn got up and hugged her sister.
“Bye” said Buffy softly.
