~*~*~*~*~*~*
She sat at the table and leafed through the mail, quickly sifting through the
bills that may never get paid. She looked through still nothing that remotely
resembled a card.
She sighed; the impending apocalypse had everyone on edge including her. Spike
had stayed in the basement only coming up to help her patrol.
She walked over to the sink, placed the empty glass in the water. With both
hands resting on the side.
“ Hey Buff, How’s it going? Xander breezed as he opened the door of the fridge.
“Nothing much, just another normal day on the hellmouth,” she turned around to
see Xander drinking out of the milk carton.
“Ewww, Xander get a glass,” she handed it to him as he grinned sheepishly.
“Is everyone ready for training?” She put the carton back in the fridge and
closed the door.
“ Huh, I think so,”
“Okay then, let’s get to it,” She clapped her hands together walked out of the
kitchen.
Spike sat up on his bed, when he heard the door open. The footsteps grew louder,
but he knew who it was.
“Hi Buffy,” he lit his cigarette and clicked the lighter shut.
“Spike, you know those things are bad for you,” he rolled his eyes, and blew out
the smoke.
“Yeah I know…so what’s a slayer want talking to a vampire?” Buffy just shrugged
her shoulders and sat on the edge of his bed
“Oh nothing, I’m just in sorts today,” Spike inhaled once more.
“Come on, I thought you could tell me anything,” he brushed a stray strand of
hair away from her face. She smiled at the tenderness he now possessed now that
he had a soul.
He watched her as she looked at her nail, a sign that she didn’t want to talk
and he wasn’t going to force it out of her.
“Maybe, I can talk to you later after training?” Her eyes looked hopeful, and he
knew he couldn’t refuse her.
“Ok luv, we’ll talk later,” She smiled and walked towards the stairs, she turned
round and stared at the blond vampire that was now smiling at her.
The girl’s paced through the rigorous training session, each battling with
they’re own demons. Buffy stood watching them spar, towel wrapped around her
neck. Willow had joined her carrying a tray of drinks.
“ What am I doing Will? I mean I’m the slayer but I don’t think this is going to
be easy,” Buffy picked up the glass and sipped.
“Buffy, you’ve always been the strongest person I’ve known. We’ll get through
this,” Willow smiled as Kennedy waved.
Buffy waited no mention of her birthday from either of her best friends. She
sighed “ Did they all forget?”
“Ok, training over you have a free night. Do anything you want,” Buffy turned
around and headed back into the house as the sun was setting.
Spike waited at the door, as the girls came back into the house after training.
He shrugged on his duster, and walked through to the kitchen.
“Spike, you going out?” Willow spoke, she looked up from the various volumes
displayed on the table.
“Yeah, something I have to sort out. Tell Buffy I’ll be back in an hour,” She
nodded; he headed out the door.
The shower spray left little comfort, Buffy’s depleted mood seem to grow worse
the longer she thought about it.
“I know, the apocalypse is on everyone’s mind but I can’t believe everyone
forgot, Spike would remember wouldn’t he?”
She shook her head, and turned the shower off. As she stepped out she noticed
Spike’s motorcycle wasn’t there, panic settled in she hurriedly dried herself
and got dressed.
Spike had a plan, he didn’t know if the slayer would agree to it. She never did
anything she didn’t want to, he knew that much.
“ Where’s Spike?” Buffy asked as she tied her hair back.
“Oh, he said to tell you he will be back in an hour,” Willow wrote in her
notebook.
“ And you just let him go,” Buffy cheeks blushed as her temper rose.
“ Woah Buffy, calm down,” Xander stood in between Willow and Buffy.
“ Xander, he was tortured by the First. And he still isn’t the best what if they
took him back,” Buffy started to pace the kitchen.
The back door opened and Spike walked through, a cigarette hanging limply from
his lips.
“ Evening,”
“ Spike, where have you been?” Buffy stood in front of him her green eyes
blazing.
“And where’s you usual black ensemble?”
Spike smirked, he knew she would notice the fact he didn’t where his black
jeans. He still wore his famous scuffed boots, and his black T-shirt. He wore a
light blue shirt, and topped off the outfit with dark blue jeans.
Buffy stared at Spike; he looked different without his outfit. But he still
looked good.
“ I had to sort something out, why what did I miss?” he looked between the
slayer and her friends.
“Nothing, it’s not anyone would remember,” Buffy mumbled low enough so that no
one could hear…except Spike.
He stared as Buffy lowered her head, and walked towards her.
“How about we go patrolling? Get out of here for a while?” He lifted her chin
with his finger so that she looked directly into his eyes. She nodded numbly and
turned to get her jacket.
“ I’m taking Buffy out, won’t be back for a while. And maybe then you can think
about what you’ve missed,” Spike stomped out the kitchen, leaving Willow and
Xander to stare confusedly behind him.
Buffy stood outside while Spike followed, he sat on his motorcycle and revved
the engine. Buffy stood there and shook her head, and quickly jumped on. Spike
roared out of Revello Drive like a bat out of hell. Buffy had to throw her arms
around Spike’s waist just to hold on.
The headed out of Sunnydale and along the highway, Buffy didn’t really notice
where they were going, she really enjoyed holding onto Spike’s waist to notice.
Spike in return was enjoying the slayers, hot little hands round his waist. He
felt her press her cheek against his shoulder blades. He could hear her
breathing, which indicated her relaxed.
Buffy didn’t know where they were going, and frankly didn’t care. She felt free
of obligation for the first time in 7 years.
The bike stopped and she finally took in the surroundings, she stared at Spike.
They stood on the boardwalk that led down to the beach. Spike walked down the
boardwalk, he looked back and waved his hand to follow.
He led her down to the beach; Spike turned around and grabbed her hand. The
stars shone bright in the Californian night sky, Buffy bumped into Spike’s
shoulder as he abruptly stopped.
“Ooff, Spike what are we doing?” Buffy muffled, into the back of his duster.
Spike moved out of the way, Buffy blinked when she saw the site in front of her.
A fire lit the spot in front of a cavern, a blanket placed on the sand with an
ice bucket and 2 glasses.
“ Spike,” Buffy breathed, her eyes darted from the picnic to Spike.
“ You didn’t think I would forget your birthday, although everyone else did,”
Spike reached for the two glasses that rested near the bucket.
“This is great…champagne… all you need now is strawberries,” Buffy giggled as
Spike popped a strawberry into her glass and then proceeded to pour.
Buffy stared out into the ocean, she felt Spike sit next to her and turned to
him. “You know, me equals alcohol means not of the good,”
Spike grinned he remembered, that night they went to find information and she
got drunk at Willie’s.
Spike stood up and walked towards the cavern, while Buffy continued to sip her
drink.
“ Spike, where are you going?”
“Hang on, I’ll be right out,” his voice seemed to echo in the dark cave. He
wandered back out carrying a guitar.
A guitar! Can he sing? Oh god! Buffy thought as he sat down.
“ Ok, now don’t laugh. I’m gonna sing you something,” he looked over to see
Buffy roll her eyes.
“ You have a right to be embarrassed on your birthday,” Spike crossed his legs
and positioned the guitar and strung a cord perfectly and Buffy opened her eyes
wide.
He inhaled and blew out a big breath and placed his fingers on the strings.
I’m not a perfect person,
There’s many things I wish I didn’t do,
I never meant to do those things to you,
But I continue learning,
I never meant to do those things to you,
Buffy quietly listened, her heartbeat rapidly quickening. She didn’t realise
Spike could sing so beautifully, the words seem to ring true in their
relationship. Her eyes glistened as he continued.
I’ve found a reason for me,
To change who I used to be,
A reason to start over new,
And the reason is you,
Buffy clutched the glass to her chest as he finished the song, her hand rested
on his and he looked into her eyes.
“That was beautiful,” A tear ran down silently down her cheek, falling beneath
her chin, she turned away from Spike. He reached for her shoulder to pull her
back to his gaze.
She looked into his eyes, and saw the love he always said he felt.
“Oh, I almost forgot. I got you something,” he reached into his pocket and
retrieved a velvet box.
Buffy’s breath caught in her throat, as she looked at the box, her fingers
touched the soft velvet. Spike took her glass and set it down in the sand.
She pulled open the box; in return it creaked as it was forced open to reveal
its contents.
Buffy gasped, as she saw what the velvet was hiding. A thick gold band encased
in diamonds shone brightly, her eyes met with Spike’s.
He grinned and reached into the box and pulled out the ring. He grabbed her
finger and placed the ring on her right hand.
“I’ve got to be careful, we got into trouble the last time” Buffy laughed at the
reference to their “engagement” at the hands of Willow.
“Spike, I love it thank you,” she leaned over and kissed Spike on his cheek, she
pulled back to look into his blue eyes. Gazes locked, they couldn’t fight the
attraction they would always feel.
She pressed her lips against his, Spike froze not wanting to push the slayer
into anything, he couldn’t think straight not with her warm cherry lips pressed
against his.
The kiss deepened and passion took over; his guitar was slung from his lap as
the slayer took that position.
Spike hands seem to move up and down her arms as if to familiarise what he had
missed. Buffy groaned into his mouth as her fingers intertwined in his blond
curls.
Buffy straddled Spike as he lay back down; the noises the slayer made were
definitely encouraging.
They changed positions, now that Spike gazed at Buffy’s face remembering every
contour from her bright green eyes, to her lips to her long blond hair. His hand
lovingly caressed her cheek, and she rested her cheek further into his palm
“ I love you Buffy,” he kissed her soundly on the lips.
“ I know, Spike i..” he kissed away the end of her sentence, moving slowly down
the column of her throat. He slowly unbuttoned her shirt, revealing her heaving
chest.
Buffy in return, reached into his shirt and caressed his neck pulling off his
shirt; their pace quickened as Spike and Buffy quickly shed their clothes.
A young couple aimlessly walking there dog on the beach, wandered along the tide
their feet kicking the water. They heard a groan; their curiosity getting the
better of them followed the noise.
“Let’s not go and find out,” The young girl breathed.
“ Spike,” a scream echoed along the secluded beach.
“They’re not in trouble,” her husband replied and walked back the way they came.
His wife, following reluctantly him mumbling to herself.
Buffy panted as she came down from her orgasm, she held onto Spike tightly her
nails stuck into his skin.
“ Spike, I-I..”
“Ssh,” Spike put a finger to his lips, and slowly got up.
He reached for the bottle and took a gulp from its depths. He gestured to Buffy,
who only shook her head.
“ I’ll be right back,” Spike stood up and walked into the cave.
“ I love you,” Buffy whispered as she fell asleep. Spike stopped in his tracks
when he heard her declaration. He had waited so long to hear it, but was she
forced to say it on the eve of battle.
“ I mean it William,” He turned around a tear escaping down his face. He came
out of the cave and leant down and kissed her hair
“ I know you do,” he scooped her in his arms and closed his eyes, he still had
plenty of time until he had to take her back to reality.
Hope you like
