Rev. Lori C. Patton is a doctoral candidate in Religion and Personality at Vanderbilt University, with minor studies in Anthropology. Her dissertation topic is an expanded version of the 'Blood, Text and Fears' paper she presented in 2003, and she is currently an adjunct professor in the School of Religion at Belmont University. Lori's interest in theology and popular culture go back to her M.Div. studies at Princeton Seminary (where she tried to get theology credit for reading 'Star Trek' novels), and she has been writing and teaching on BtVS as practical theology since 1999. Her non-BtVS conference papers include "Working Out Your Own Salvation with 'Xena: Warrior Princess' (Or, The Renewing of Ego Ideals in Syndication)" in 1998 and "Girls, Gods, and Monsters: Healing from the Margins in the Anime of Hayao Miyazaki" in 2002, both given at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Religion.
