Joseph W. Reed is Professor of English and American Studies at Wesleyan University. CT, U.S.A. He has published widely, and some of his publications include Faulkner's Narrative ( Yale University Press, 1973), Three American Originals: John Ford, William Faulkner, and Charles Ives (Wesleyan Univ. Press, 1984), American Scenarios: the Uses of Film Genre (Wesleyan University Press, 1989), Literary Revision: the Inexact Science of Getting It Right, New Haven: Yale University Library, 1990.
