THE BORG. BtVS Intertext/Allusion.

The Borg are an advanced alien cybernetic life form devoid of emotion in the Star Trek universe whose ultimate goal is to assimilate all knowledge. In that verse, Jean Luc Picard, stalwart leader and captain of the starship Enterprise is assimilated into the Borg collective as Locutus of Borg.

When Buffy goes to confront the Master alone in “Prophecy Girl,” Xander compares Giles’ calm reaction to the news to that of the emotionless and logical Locutus.

Xander: And she knew about this prophecy of yours? Aw, man. What do we do?

Giles: We stay calm, first thing.

Xander: Calm?

Willow: I think he’s right.

Xander: I’m sorry, calm may work for Locutus of the Borg here (indicates Giles) but I’m freaked out  and I intend to stay that way.
