In “Halloween," Giles finds a note left behind in Ethan Rayne’s abandoned costume shop that reads “Be seeing you.”

This is a nod to the 1960s British cult television show The Prisoner, starring Patrick McGoohan.

In the series, McGoohan plays a top government agent who decides to resign his position, but he is immediately kidnapped to a beautiful, isolated seaside town known as The Village. The inhabitants as well as those in charge are identified by a number only, and the standard greeting among villagers when they meet is “Be seeing you.”

Joss Whedon is quoted in a May 2003 Salon.com interview as saying that he watched “The Prisoner” while growing up.
