ROMANY. BtVS Intertext/Allusion.

Romany (Romani, Romni) is the noun referring to the language spoken by a large number of Roma, or gypsies. Belonging to the Indo-European family of languages, it originated in the Northwest of India, becoming a true fusion language and dividing into distinct dialects with the subsequent migrations of the Roma (see “The Divisions of Romani Dialects,” for examples).

It is also used as an adjective to refer to a member of the Rom, as Angel did in the first season episode “Angel” (1007):

ANGEL: Fed on a girl about your age... beautiful... dumb as a post...but a favorite among her clan.

BUFFY: Her clan?

ANGEL: Romany. Gypsies. The elders conjured the perfect punishment for me. They restored my soul.
