Chapter 5
Seeing and Believing

Martha was worried about the girl. She had not been back to school since the incident three days earlier. Martha had once worked in a state institution during her college years where she had seen people who acted the way Duncan had. They had all been seriously abused. Oddly she didn’t feel Duncan was being abused now, at least not by the Rosenberg- Summers. But Martha wanted to find out what had happened to the girl, and how she had ended up with the women.

There were other things that bothered her as well and now that she had time to think about them, it only left her more puzzled. While Duncan clearly enjoyed school and was a good student. She seemed almost afraid of the other children. She seemed content to watch them from a far but was very uncomfortable working with more then one other student.

And then there was her spoken language skills. It seemed very hard for her to speak, taking several seconds at times to answer questions. The school speech pathologist thought she might be disartheric.

Her husband, Frank, had been puzzled by what was going on as well. She knew he was pretty shook up over the DA dropping the case so fast. He had told her about seeing Buffy at the hospital. She still didn’t want to believe the beautiful young woman was an addict. She didn’t know how that was going to affect Duncan. From what she could get out of the few things Duncan said about her home life, her observations and what she had been able to pump out of Ms. Kemp and Mrs. Myerly, Duncan not only worshipped Buffy but also believed Buffy had saved her from some terrible fate.

Myerly and Kemp had basically told her that Buffy Summers saved a lot of people. The question she had was saved them from what? When she asked this everyone just went quiet. Frank was having the same problem.

Frustrated with the lack of answers, Martha headed out the door to find some. She just hoped she would be home before her husband found out that she had gone over to the Rosenberg-Summers house.

Martha Williamson had started to ring the front door when she heard loud moaning. Fearing someone was hurt she followed the noise around to the back of the house. Lying on the back of the deck were Buffy Summers and Rachel Duncan. They were weaved together moving as one.

They were both still dressed and were working underneath their clothes as they tenderly kissed each other. Martha noted the open zipper on Duncan’s jeans and Buffy’s hand moving inside them, just as she noted Duncan’s hand equally busy underneath the slayer’s skirt. Martha knew she should just turn away but she felt the need to study them. Both women were covered in sweat, their hair damp from the effort. They were both lost to themselves only the loud moaning and flowing motion was left in the wake. They moved like the ocean tide, moving in and out of each other, kissing gently while the rest of their bodies moved frantically. Disparately marching to some internal need.

And then Martha saw something she had never seen before. Both women began to glow. At first it was just a kind of halo effect. But as they began to more quickly inside each other, the glow grew until it was almost blinding. Then she felt it. A wave of passion so strong her own body reacted to it. She felt her own vaginal walls contract and was surprised by the orgasm and just for a brief moment while her body climaxed she had a vision. Instead of seeing Buffy and Duncan in front of her she saw a large tiger and an angel with her wings open wide hovering just above the ground. The angel was not like any picture or drawing she had ever seen. The angel had three sets of arms and a belt of skulls around her waist. A single red dot marked her forehead. She had Buffy’s face. And then the tiger shifted form to an Indian girl. She too had a single red dot on her forehead. And while Duncan looked more Asian then Indian, Martha knew without a doubt the girl was Duncan.

And then the vision ended and she felt an arm being gently placed around her. “Sshhh, it’s ok, the first time can be a little overwhelming. I am going to take you inside and get you some tea.” Willow Rosenberg said gently. Willow then managed to guide her inside the house into the kitchen.

Martha Williamson had no idea how long she sat there wordlessly recovering from the oddest experiences of her life. When she was able to drink a little tea, she asked. “Can you please tell me what just happened?”

Willow blushed a little then said, “That depends, what do you think happened?”

“I am not really sure, but I think I just had a vision.” Martha stated.

“I was afraid of that. Most people don’t even notice. Are you a witch?” Willow replied. Martha was still trying to make sense of what the redhead was saying when she felt another blast of power this one stronger then the first. She was grateful to be several rooms away from the source, at least this time she was a little more prepared. Martha felt the room shift and this time she saw not just the angel and the tiger girl but a huge room covered in blue walls and plush carpet.

When she returned from the vision she was shaking. Willows arms held on to her keeping her from falling out of her chair. Once she was able to focus she was surprised to notice she was not the only one shaking. The redhead was also clearly effected by whatever was happening to her. She didn’t have time to ponder that observation.

Buffy was screaming, “Willow I need help.” Martha could hear the fear in her voice. Both she and Willow ran back out onto the deck.

“Is she ok?” The slayer said in a panic as she tried to pull away from the seizuring girl. While Martha began checking on Duncan, Willow was gently helping Buffy let go of Duncan. Willow pried Buffy’s hands out of Duncan pants and then pulled her several feet away from the Reinfield. Once that was accomplished, Willow moved back to Duncan.

“Help me carry her inside.” Willow asked the teacher.

With a last glance at the shaking slayer, Martha helped carry Duncan inside. As she was lowering the girl on the coach she asked. “Will she be ok?”

“Duncan will be fine. She just needs to sleep for a while. See she is already snoring.” The witch said to reassure her guest.

“I glad Rachel is ok, but what about Buffy? Will she be all right?” Martha asked.

“Given time, she’ll be back to normal.” Willow said sadly as she covered Duncan with a blanket.

“Shouldn’t we go check on her?” Martha asked as the memory of the shaking slayer flashed in her mind.

“Ok, just let me get Mr. Dragon first.” Willow left the room and returned with a large stuffed dragon. She then slipped the toy inside Duncan’s arms. The little Reinfield was happily purring away in her sleep.

The two women walked back outside to where Buffy was curled up in a ball, deep in heavy withdrawal. “Is she ok, I didn’t hurt her again did?” Buffy managed to ask in a shaking voice between bouts of pain.

She is fine. Purring like a kitten with a big smile across her face.” Willow said sitting down next to Buffy.

“I tried to wait until we got inside Will, honest I tried.” Buffy cried as she placed her head in her wives lap.

“I know Buff. I know” Willow said as she began to stroke the slayers back.

“What kind of addiction is it?” Martha asked.

“It’s kind of hard to explain” Willow said vaguely.

“Never the less honey, you need to try and explain it to Mrs. Williamson. At least that’s the message the goddess sent you.” Tara said suddenly from the door.

“Really?” Willow asked her other wife.

“You can explain while I cook diner. Do you want anything to drink before I get started?”

After a few sips of ice tea the very confused teacher was ready to listen. Buffy had stopped shaking and was down to small tremors as Willow continued to rub her back.

“I would really like to hear about your wifes' problem. Her addiction.” Martha prompted.

“It’s not easy to explain. She is addicted to sex. Not really just sex but to a certain enzyme that is created during sex” Willow explained.

“You’re kidding right?” Martha said disbelieving.

“You're still coming down from the fix you got. Remember your visions, the incredible orgasms you had just from being near the release of my wife during sex.” Willow said

While Martha blushed she asked, “So I did have visions?”

“Yeah, most people don’t feel Buffy’s releases. Good sex but they don’t get the time shifts. Then there are those who do get the time shifts. I only feel the really big releases, most of the small ones just role over me. It’s easier that way. Mostly it’s just people with psychic ability or witches who feel them the most. A friend of ours, a straight friend stayed over and Buffy almost sent her into a coma with a small release. She is a seer, it scared Buffy to death.” Willow babbled.

“It was pretty tough on Cordelia as well.” Buffy said from her perch in Willows lap.

“And you have psychic ability?” Martha asked.

“No, Tara and I are witches. Not evil bad witches, we're good witches.” Willow said smiling.

“That’s a relief, here I was thinking I was going to have to slay you both.” Buffy joked as she shook.

“Are you a witch or is there a history of witchcraft in your family?” Willow asked.

“Not that I am aware of.” Martha answered. Wondering at the sanity of these people. “So how does Duncan fit into this?”

“Buffy isn’t exactly like everyone else, she is a Slayer and Duncan is her Reinfield. They have a kind of symbolic relationship. They can't survive without each other. Buffy’s body produces large amounts of magical power. Special enzymes in her brain control the power, channel it. Most of the enzymes are not found in humans, which is why most people don’t feel the release of magical power. These special enzymes are created during sexual activity. Orgasm being the most common. As long as she keeps enough enzymes in her body every thing is all right. If their level falls she goes into withdrawal. This is where Duncan comes in. Duncan is a Reinfield. Her body has a lot of different designs and adaptations. When Buffy has sex with Duncan it is more than a general fix like it is when she has sex with other people. When Buffy has an orgasm she releases backed up magic in powerful blasts like the two you felt today. When she is with Duncan she can send most of the magic directly into Duncan. Her body acts like a purifier and then returns cleaned up amplified magic back to the slayer. This magic needs less of the enzyme to control it. Cutting down on her addiction.” Willow said

“So what does Duncan get out of the arrangement.” Martha asked

“Freedom, well as much freedom as a Reinfield can have. Duncan shouldn't even be able to speak yet. For a Rienfield she is extremely young to have learned to talk. She isn’t human. Not that you have to worry about her, she really is harmless. Ok, she’s mostly harmless. There is, of course, the whole bug issue.” Willow babbled.

“Will”, Buffy prompted.

“Sorry, Duncan is really different from humans. She has looked exactly the same since she was 6 months old. Left on their own Reinfields die before they are two years old. They can collect magic, sexual magic to be exact, but they can’t release it. They have to be bounded with someone to do that. Duncan is bounded to Buffy. She releases magic into Buffy. Sometimes, like today, Buffy can send too much build up magic and Duncan couldn’t handle the overload so she went into a seizure. It was a big release, but you felt it.” Willow explained.

“Dinners ready” Tara said

“Pizza” Duncan screamed from inside the house excitedly.

“I thought you said you were going to cook?” Willow asked with a raised eyebrow.

“You don’t give Buffy a hard time when she dials in dinner.” Tara replied while at the same time helping Willow pick Buffy up off the deck floor. Tara then pulled up Buffy’s panties. Buffy was stronger but she was still having withdrawal symptoms.

Just as they got everyone gathered around the table the doorbell rang. “Duncan please go and let Mr. Williamson in for diner.” Tara stated.

“That explains the six plates.” Buffy said as she sat down.

Frank Williamson was a little surprise to see the kid answer the door. He instinctively moved back in case she wanted to pounce on him.

“Tara says to come in for diner, Mrs. Williamson is in the kitchen. Like pizza?” Duncan said practically bouncing up and down. Before Frank could get his balance, Duncan was pulling him inside toward the kitchen.

When he entered the kitchen he found the three women and his wife gathered around the table with two open pizza boxes in the middle. Duncan urged him into a chair beside his wife and then she moved to set between Buffy and Willow. The third women he took to be Ms. McClain. His wife had told him about finding the two of them in an awkward situation the night she brought Duncan home. He had done a lot of checking on the three adults in the house. Most of it just puzzled the hell out of him.

Willow Rosenburg was by all accounts a genius. The company she worked for loved her, recruited her before she even finished collage. In fact they were so pleased with her work they didn’t say much about the amount of work she took off to care for her wife. She made them millions and they were happy with the profit margin. All that made a kind of a weird sense to Frank until he found out that Willow Rosenburg was the president of the local Wicca counsel. She and her wives were heavily into witchcraft. Scientist Witch was something Frank didn’t see often.

The McClain woman was also a member of the Wicca counsel. She had married Buffy Summers and Willow Rosenburg five years earlier in what was the biggest Wicca wedding in town. The fact that the most of the Wicca group were some of Sunnydales finest citizen still bothered the 20-year police veteran. She too was a scientist in good standing, a botanist at some state research center or something like that. It was easy to see Rosenburg and McClain as a couple. It was fitting Summers into the fray that was driving him crazy.

The more facts he put together the more it drove him nuts. She had the weirdest records he had ever seen for someone who had never done time. They started at age 15 when she burnt down her school gym, not once but twice. Both times the events were swept under the rug. The same rug they were swept under when she was wanted for the murder of another young woman found at the high school, and when the police wanted her in connection with the bombing of the first Sunnydale High School. All this before she even graduated from High School.

After high school the incidents just got stranger, and yet each and every time the force had solid events against her, the cases were dropped. The only reason he was given was that she was ‘The Slayer.’ What ever that was?

And the people he talked just continued to confuse him. Almost all of them were terrified by Buffy and yet these same people, told him time and again how the Summers woman saved them from something even more terrifying. Frank had at least a guess as to what it was she had saved them from. Being a cop meant you sometimes found people with ‘neck rupture’ as the corner liked to call it. Even when they lived in LA he had seen more then enough to convince him that there were things that went bump in the night. The real question was: were the vampires real demons or just crazies thinking they were demons.

It left Frank no closer to figuring out where the Summers girl fit into the whole picture. And then there was the kid. He and his wife had talked about the girl a lot. His gut told him that his wife was probably right. Martha felt that Duncan must have been abused in the extreme as a child. More then likely some form of isolation was used in the abuse. Martha had told him in detail how the girl shied away from other students. How she seemed overwhelmed in crowds or simply working in a group. Martha told him other things as well; little things that alone meant nothing but together painted a dark picture.

He tended to believe like his wife that the girl wasn’t currently being abused, though he had no evidence either way. He only had small facts. First they went to a hell of a lot of trouble getting the girl in school. It had taken him a while to trace the records and steps that they took to create records for the girl and bribe the school bored. If the Rosenburg-Summers were trying to hid the girl it was unlikely that they would make sure a fuss to get her in a public school.

Frank sat down next to his wife. “I see you came over after our little talk about not coming over.” The policeman said.

“I believe the talk worked both ways, here have a slice its good pizza.” His wife replied. Frank took a piece and then eyed Buffy. The blond was shaking a little, still going through withdrawal he guessed. Addicts were the worst part of the job. More often then not, take away the addiction and you had a major mental illness to deal with. Mostly he felt sorry for them. His best guess was that the Summers girl’s addiction hid one hell of a mental illness.

“So Ms Summers, are you feeling any better.” Frank asked pointedly before taking a bite of his pizza.

“Do I look like I’m feeling better?” Buffy said sarcastically.

“No you look like your going through a pretty nasty withdrawal. Maybe you should have stayed in the hospital a few more days and let the doctors help you over the tough parts. I am guessing what ever you are on can’t be easy to kick.” He said frankly.

“Whatever.” Buffy replied as she tried to steady her hand and hold the pizza. Duncan had helped her a little but it was only a small fix. She already needed another. Her pussy was growing wet and she wanted to push Duncan between her legs, but the girl needed to eat. So Buffy crossed her legs and tried to focus on the pizza.

“According to Ms. Rosenburg, Buffy is addicted to sex.” Martha Williamson stated. She really didn’t buy most of the story she was told earlier.

Frank burst out laughing. “That must be why she has her own personal sex club. The Toolbox, nice name for an S & M club.”

“Well I wanted to call it Willow’s lips but I got voted down.” Buffy angrily answered back.

“I see you have been checking us out Mr. Williamson.” Willow stated.

“So no denying, no explanations?” The cop asked.

“What explanations do you want, officer? What exactly is it that you suspect us of?” Tara asked

“What is a slayer?” Frank asked.

“Buffy is the slayer. The best slayer ever.” Duncan stated with a great deal of confidence

“Will I can’t sit through this again. I need….”Buffy said with a shaky voice.

“Why don’t I take Buffy down to the dungeon and take care of her, while you explain what a slayer is to the Williamson.” Tara said as she helped Buffy out of her chair.

Duncan began to move with Buffy until Willow said, “Duncan I want you to stay with me. You already had one seizure today.”

“She is right Dunc, stay with Will.” Buffy said from the door. She was starting to shake a little harder.

“Oh and Will, do the floating object thing. Seeing is Believing.” Tara said just before closing the kitchen door.
