Part 11

“Sure you don’t want to go Will?” Xander asked.

“No, you guys have fun,” Willow assured him, “I think more than enough of you are going.”

“She just wants to be alone with Professor Lupin,” George whispered loudly to Xander. “That’s why she encouraged the others to go with you.”

“Not denying that,” Willow grinned, “Do not give Andrew anything that may cause Faith or Gunn to kill him okay.”

“Like what?” Fred asked innocently.

“I’ll make sure,” Dawn hugged Willow before joining the others.

“Have fun,” Willow waved as Xander, Dawn, Harry, Hermione, and the Weasley siblings disappeared. “Yes, quiet for two whole days!”

“What do you plan to do with that quiet?” Remus asked from the doorway.

“Mmm, I’m sure we can think of something,” she smiled and walked toward him.

“Sure we can,” he wrapped his arms around her and lowered his head to kiss her.

“We never did see that movie?” Willow suggested.

“Lots of things we haven’t done yet,” he smiled, “But we can start with a movie.”

“Don’t suppose you have a muggle newspaper?”

“Sorry.”

“Well, then I say we start with dinner and pick up a paper there and see what’s playing.”

“Sounds like a plan, but dinners not for a few hours.”

“We’ll have to find something else to keep us busy until then won’t we?”

“Way to get yourself killed Xander,” Faith said lowering the stake when she realized who had appeared in front of her.

“Sorry, no phones,” Xander shrugged, “I owled Buffy that we were coming.”

“Didn’t mention appearing out of thin air,” Buffy replied walking around the counter.

“Yeah, sorry.”

“Or bringing lots of guests,” Buffy pointed out.

“Hi Buffy,” Dawn stepped out of the crowd of teen-agers, and quickly made introductions.

“Hermione, how’s slayer training going?” Faith asked.

“Okay I guess, I’m not very physical and it’s all so--.” Hermione stopped not sure how to explain.

“Hermione just needs some practice,” Dawn supplied, “She’ll be fine.”

“I was just going down stairs to train a little wanna come?” Buffy asked the newest slayer.

“Oh, uh sure,” Hermione agreed, she had so many questions and this would be a good chance for her to talk to Buffy.

“Let’s go find Andrew,” Xander suggested to the twins, and they headed up the stairs.

“So what do you guys want to do, I can show you the rooms you can use or we can go out or we can eat?” Dawn quickly gave them their choices.

Everyone quickly agreed they should go out first while it was early enough. Dawn went to the basement stairs and told Buffy they were going to the mall and then led Harry, Ron, and Ginny out of the hotel.

“So did you like the movie?” Willow asked as she and Remus made their way through the crowd leaving the theater.

“Are they always so violent?” Remus asked.

“Not always,” she laughed, “Sorry but it was that or a chick-flick.”

“Sorry?” He raised an eyebrow.

“Love story, really sappy,” Willow explained.

“Right, so then what would you like to do now?”

“We could go back home and uh, work on those lessons we talked about?” Willow suggested, smiling.

Lupin pulled her around the corner into an alley. Where they could apparate unseen.

“The Dark Arts lessons?” He asked wrapping his arms around her.

“I had other things in mind…” she rose up slightly and kissed him as they disappeared from the street with a pop.

Willow stepped away from him when they appeared outside number twelve Grimauld place. She was slightly pale, she was certain she did not like Apparating.

“Never gonna get used to that,” she smiled and followed Remus to the quickly appearing house.

“It is different until you adjust.”

“Nope not gonna adjust,” Willow whispered as they made their way into house. It was late and she didn’t want to risk attracting Mrs. Black’s attention. “Is everyone asleep already?”

“Doubt it,” Lupin smiled, “But maybe we can get upstairs before anyone knows we’re here.”

Willow giggled quietly as she followed him up the stairs. She didn’t mean to but the whole thing was sort of funny. Remus was Giles age, and she was more than old enough to do whatever she pleased yet they were sneaking into the house like teen-agers.

“What’s so funny?”

“Nothing, sorry,” Willow put her hand over her mouth to stifle more laughter, “Just thinking that I didn’t do stuff like this when I was a teen-ager. I was the sensible one that never did anything wrong.”

“Me too,” he murmured and pushed open the door to his room.

“So Buff, how do you think Hermione’s doing?” Xander asked as Dawn took the other teen-agers upstairs.

“She’s got a long way to go, but she’ll manage,” Buffy replied.

“Yeah, it helps to not be the only one,” Faith agreed, “She isn’t under the pressure of knowing the whole damn world depends on you.”

“Yes, she does seem to be coming along nicely,” Giles said taking a seat on the couch next to Buffy, “You and Willow are doing an excellent job.”

“Has she experienced an umm, problems with her magic?” Wesley asked from his seat near the counter.

“Not that we’ve seen. We haven’t been there long though, and she hasn’t been in any real danger which is when Will thinks there may be a problem,” Xander explained, “Also she’s not allowed to use magic outside of school so we haven’t seen her actually do anything yet.”

“Buffy, we’re going to patrol,” Amanda said coming down the steps, followed by a couple of the newer arrivals, “Any place we should concentrate on?”

Buffy shrugged and glanced around the group seated in the hotel lobby. Being here was nice, she was enjoying not having to be the only slayer or the only one to know what needed to be done. Everyone shook their heads.

“No, just the usual,” Buffy answered.

“Know what, I’ll come with,” Faith said standing, then turning to Xander, “Think Hermione’s up to patrolling?”

“Haven’t tried it yet, because uh, kind of not fun without a fully trained slayer near by but…” Before Xander finished speaking Faith was calling for Hermione at the bottom of the stairs.

“You called me?” Hermione said coming down the steps a few minutes later.

“We’re going to patrol, wanna come?” Faith asked.

“Well um…”

“Can we all go?” Dawn asked coming down the steps to see what they were calling Hermione for.

“Why not?” Faith shrugged. “Whose in?”

A few minutes later, Faith and Amanda were joined by two of the girls living at the hotel as well as Hermione, Ginny, Harry, and Ron. Fred and George choose to stay behind and demonstrate various joke products for Andrew.

Faith quickly passed out stakes as well as various other weapons, with quick demonstrations to the guests on how to use them. Then instructing them to stay close to her they headed out.

“Have fun?” Xander asked when Faith returned followed by Dawn, Hermione, Ginny, Ron, and Harry. “Where are the others?”

“They were hitting a few more spots,” Dawn answered. “Should’ve come with us Xander, you would’ve been so proud of her.”

“You were much better than I was Dawn,” Hermione blushed.

“Yeah but uh, fighting vamps for years now,” Dawn grinned, “This was your first patrol.”

“You dusted one?” Xander asked.

“Oh, yeah,” Ron grinned. “It didn’t even have a chance to see her coming.”

“I didn’t, I mean I…” Hermione smiled.

“You kicked ass, enjoy it,” Faith walked passed her tossing a stake into a large basket in the corner.

“Xander what time are we going back?” Harry asked, “Do we have time to see a movie or something before we leave?”

“Yeah, I mean it’s not like we have to catch a plane or something,” Xander said, “But I did tell Molly we’d be back for dinner so make it an early one.”

“Then we better all turn in so we can get an early start,” Dawn suggested and everyone said their good-nights to Xander and Faith before heading upstairs.

“Take her out patrolling Xander,” Faith said when they were alone.

“What?”

“She needs to go out,” Faith answered.

“She’s right,” Wesley walked in from the kitchen to catch the end of the conversation, “We all know from my experience, book and gym training doesn’t really prepare you.”

“Yeah but… Without you or Buffy there no…”

“No trained slayer so you said earlier,” Faith finished, “So what, Xander you’ve been patrolling since you were sixteen. You, Willow, and Dawn have faced a hell of a lot worse than vamps. I’m not saying go searching out a big bad but hit a few cemeteries.”

“Fine I’ll talk to Will when we get back,” Xander agreed.

“Great and apparently you can get us in minutes if you need to right with that whole Apparating thing?”

“Yeah, I guess.” Xander agreed. He still wasn’t sure how he felt about patrolling with Hermione as the only slayer but he also knew Faith and Wesley wouldn’t send them out if they didn’t believe Hermione was ready for it.
