Disclaimer: Joss owns Buffy and all the characters. The episode GRADUATION PART TWO wasn't written by me and I don't own it.
Spoilers: Grad. Part 2
Authors Notes: This is dedicated to my friend Allie who wanted a very romantic Cordy and Xander story. I hope I don't disappoint you. The song 'I Want You Back' is Ensync's [I have no clue how to spell the name, sorry!] and it applied to this story perfectly I think. Who else thinks that the writers were crazy for making the relationship end? I mean what was that?

Part Two

It's hard to say I'm sorry
It's hard to make the things I did undone
A lesson I learned in here for sure*
So don't hang up the phone now
I'm trying to figure out just what to do
I'm goin crazy without you...
(* =I am not sure what the actual words are ** =idiot Jed is a glutton for punishment-something Xander made up)

Cordy tiredly rubbed her temples as she strolled along the block with Xander at her side. She felt alittle woozy. She and Xander had been researching on acentions for about two hours with minimal breaks. She was so tired she thought she was going to faint. Xander had insisted on walking her home for some spazziod reason, but she was actually glad he was there. For some reason, his presence was having a calming effect on her. Ever since she had seen him in the cafeteria she hadn't been able to get him out of her mind. Sure he had dropped his lunch tray, then fallen and then acted like it was funny, but for some reason she found it adorable. Xander wasn't typically the adorable type. She had forced herself to get her mind of him, but when she had heard she could die, for one brief moment, she hadn't been able to breathe. What had come over her, she had no idea, but whatever had brought it on was real. With a start she realized she loved Xander. She loved Buffy and Willow for being her sort-of friends, she loved Oz for keeping her so calm...she even loved Giles!! And she loved Xander...cause he understood her. Of all the guys she'd ever been with, he was the only one who had actually known her. The real her.

His hand brushed against hers and she sighed. She wondered if she'd ever be able to leave for LA with this behind her. Xander and her walked for another couple of minutes in silence. "Cordelia," Xander said suddenly, breaking the peaceful silence. She turned and looked at him expectantly.

"I'm asking for death here by asking this or maybe it's just Idiot Jed** popping up his evil head again, but I can't help wonder...what could I have done?" His face turned serious and thoughtful as he waited for her answer. Cordy knew what he meant, but chose to play dumb.

"About-?" she asked casually, trying to keep her voice from shaking. She realized she was afraid to talk about it. Everything came back.

"What could I have done to make you forgive me? I know what I did hurt you...and believe me I never ever wanted that. It's just..." he trailed off. She stopped and stiffened. Hearing him say the word aloud was even worse than not hearing them.

"Xander I don't understand you." Cordy looked at him a glimmer of pain in her eyes. Her expression was angry. She was angry! "I mean it seemed like you did care for the first couple of... weeks and then you stop all of the sudden and we go back to being enemies, and now suddenly you're walking me home and acting all full-of-grief about it! Make up your mind Xander. And as far as your question...I don't think there is anything you can do. Or could have done. You blew it Xander. You can't have me and Willow. Maybe it's time you grew up and started making some adult decisions." Xander's jaw tightened.

"You don't understand Cordy. It isn't that easy-"

"MAKE IT that easy!" she burst out. "You and I *didn't* work! If you're wondering if you want us back you have some serious thinking to do! You have to get your damn priorites straight before you suck me in alright?! Don't you remember the promise you made? You promised me you'd never hurt me again!? Well can you swear Xander? Can you swear to me that you won't ever hurt me again?"

She and Xander stared at eachother for a moment both fighting their feelings. Then Cordelia turned on her heel. As she stalked away she yelled back, her voice choked with tears of anger and frusteration.

"You aren't a little boy anymore Xander! Someday you're gonna have to choose!"
