Als Sunnydale von einem Erdbeben erschüttert wird, interpretiert Buffy dies als Vorzeichen für einen Weltuntergang. Zunächst glaubt ihr niemand, doch dann wird ein Student ermordet, auf dessen Brust sich ein geheimnisvolles Zeichen findet. Buffy entdeckt auf dem Friedhof das gleiche Zeichen an einem Grabmal - und überrascht einen Dämon, der die sterblichen Überreste eines Kindes stehlen will. Mit Hilfe dieser Knochen könnte die Hölle geöffnet werden. Buffy nimmt den Kampf auf.
