PRESS RELEASE |
"SQUARES" OFFERS TASTY "HOLLYWOOD SCARES" EPISODES
TO TRICK OR TREATERS, AIRING OCTOBER 29-31 |
Los Angeles, CA; October 16, 2001 - Hollywood Squares has once again
put up the cobwebs and laid down the gravestones for the series' annual,
lighthearted Halloween celebration, newly entitled "Hollywood
Scares." During the final days of the month (October 29-31),
viewers can tune in to see some of their favorite film and television
celebrities in outrageous costumes, representing larger-than-life
characters from real life and fiction, showcased amid a spookily decorated
set.
A number of masked marquee names will join Center Square Whoopi
Goldberg and Emmy Award-winning host Tom Bergeron to play the funnier,
faster game, including Martin Mull (The Ellen Show) as Sherlock
Holmes, Andrea Martin as The Bride of Frankenstein, Jeffrey Tambor
as Julius Caesar, Doris Roberts (Everybody Loves Raymond) as Mae
West, Fred Willard as Elvis, Anthony Stewart Head (Buffy The Vampire
Slayer) as Robin Hood, Vivica A. Fox (feature film Two Can Play
At That Game) as Cleopatra and Squares regular Gilbert Gottfried
as the Wolfman.
Despite being a very convincing werewolf, Gilbert Gottfried said,
"When I was a kid growing up, my favorite Halloween costume
- and it's still my favorite costume today - was to dress up as
a short, loud, annoying Jew. It requires extensive makeup."
Meanwhile, Tom Bergeron quipped, "I'm planning to go trick-or-treating
as Wink Martindale."
After the 31st, the costumes and cobwebs will be put away and replaced
by a series of all-new environmentally-themed episodes with activist/actress
Jane Fonda, entitled "Protect Our Planet," beginning November
1-2 and continuing into the following week, November 5-7.
This season, Squares has introduced a faster pace, bigger prizes
and a renewed emphasis on the "classic bluff." Local at-home
viewers can win daily prizes along with on-air contestant "partners"
in the series' new "Secret Square Sweepstakes," which
premiered on-air October 8. Complete rules and entry information
can be found at www.hollywoodsquares.com.
