Synopsis

Cordelia The Short: From the WB11 home page: Just as Doyle is inches away from finally making a connection with Cordy, his estranged wife shows up at Angel Investigations begging for a divorce so she can marry the new love of her life. After the initial shock of it all, Doyle agrees to consent to the divorce. Meanwhile, Angel discovers that the fiance comes from a long line of pacifist demons, but this doesn't seem to rock anyone's boat. After Doyle consents to the divorce, the fiance invites Doyle to join his bachelor party. Unbeknownst to Doyle, the fiance's family has a ritual to fulfill: the fiance needs to eat Doyle's brain in order to have a successful marriage. As the party proceedings begin, Angel gets suspicious and wanders upstairs. There he discovers these demons may not be as pacifist as they seem. He is ejected from the restaurant by the family. Downstairs, Doyle is about to be eaten with a shrimp-fork, but Angel and Cordy and the fiance arrive on the scene and come to the rescue.

The Long: We open in Angel's office as Angel reads a book and Doyle tries to talk him into going out to a sports bar. Cordelia is all dressed up and has a date with Pierce, a rich boyfriend (see Reference #1). Although Cordelia tries to slip out when Pierce arrives, Angel and Doyle introduce themselves to him and ask where they are going (see Reference #2). After Cordelia leaves Doyle looks through Angel's book and finds a picture of a hottie, who he asks about, then realizes it's Buffy. Doyle has a vision of a man being eaten in a vampire nest, so Angel and Doyle go to save him. (Listen to the teaser here.)

Unfinished.

Creature Feature

Book Demons Richard Howard Straley and his family are Anomovic demons. Including Richard there were 11 male and 5 female demons. They seem to be very human with the ability to change into a demon form with red scaly skin and vestigial horns. They are long lived and it is implied their knees bend in both directions.

Harry Harry (presumable Harriet Doyle, at least before the divorce) is an ethno-demonologist, who scouts clans of demons and records their culture. A normal human woman, Harry is one of the people who is aware of the demon world.

We learn that half breed demons only sometimes carry on the ''demon genes''. Doyle's mother didn't tell him about his father being a demon until his demon self manifested at the age of 21.

  1. Uncle John: ''Let's see. First we greet the man of the hour. Then we drink. Then we bring out the food. Then we drink. Then comes the stripper, darts, then we have the ritual eating of the first husband's brains, and then charades.''
Ben: ''Wait! What was that? Charades?''

    Giorgio Armani
  3. Cordelia: ''Here I am at Le Petite Renard with Mr. Armani, who could keep me in blue boxes for the rest of my life...''
    Angel: ''Blue boxes?''
    Cordelia: ''Tiffany's!''
Giorgio Armani was born on July 11, 1934, in Piacenza, Italy, and was the son of a shipping manager. Rising from humble origins, he intended to become a doctor but left medical school and worked as a buyer, beginning in 1957, for the Milan department store La Rinascente. In 1964, after a seven-year stint in that position, Armani pursued a career in fashion design, training in the atelier of Nino Cerruti. About 10 years later, with the help of his friend and business partner Sergio Galeotti, Armani launched his own label of ready-to-wear for men and women. Each year he added new offerings to his company, introducing perfume, accessories, a jeans line, the lower-priced diffusion line Emporio Armani, and sportswear.

What's My Line Part One - Cordelia refers to her former boyfriend Xander Harris, who she started to see when they were trapped together by an assassin.
Lover's Walk - Cordelia broke up with him when she discovered him kissing another girl, Willow Rosenberg.

  2. The vision Doyle had at the end was a scene from the fight in the opening of Pangs, the next Buffy The Vampire Slayer episode.

Goofs

  1. When Harry walks in, watch the necklace Doyle is wearing. Every time the camera cuts away from him and comes back it changes from being under his shirt to on top of it and back again.

  2. When Angel jumps Richard in the back room of the restaurant he raises his hands to defend himself, and you can clearly see how the red makeup on his hands stops at his wrists.

  3. When Pierce and Cordelia are having dinner watch the background. A waitress walks up to the lady behind her, then they cut to Pierce for less then a second, and the same woman walks up again.

  4. During the bachelor party, Angel walks into the kitchen, and you can see his reflection in the window of the kitchen door briefly.

  5. You see Angel's reflection again in the glass shutters back in his office.

    Angel Angel Cut
  6. When Angel vamps out in the alley he has a cut on his forehead that magcially heals as he goes into vamp face, although this may just be an example of super-fast healing, it looks very odd.

  • This is not the first Rachel we've seen. The girl Angel saved in In The Dark was named Rachel.

    Points Of View

    Mathew:

Probably my second favorite so far, and strangely another non-vision directed episode. The vision of saving the guy from the vamps was just a side note. The Anomovic restaurant owners were a different kind of demon. Generally human-like, but when you get deep down they are still demons. It was nice to see Cordelia try to warm up to Doyle, only to be shocked by meeting his wife. Another bonus was that the main plot was solved without any death, an uncommon surprise. I hope we see more of Harry and the Straley clan in the future.
