Synopsis

Money The Short: Angel becomes obsessed with making money to take care of Connor's future. Angel Investigations decides to start advertising with flyers and a web site, and is swamped with business from humans and demons. Angel is employed by a rich businessman to clear out a nest of vampires threatening his workers. Wesley and Gunn help a woman being stalked by her dead ex-boyfriend. Fred and the host are hired to solve a puzzle for a group of demons for $50,000. Eventually Angel learns he was conned and the man who employed him isn't who he claimed to be. Wesley and Gunn are taken off the case when the woman and her zombie boyfriend make up. Cordelia has a vision that the demons who employed Fred need her head to replace that of their prince and takes Connor with her to give the demons back their money and call the deal off. Although things turn ugly they are saved when Angel, Wesley and Gunn show up in time. The crew decide that they deserve the money for their troubles and take the $50,000 from the demons. Later Cordelia and Angel drift into a nap with Connor as they consider what to buy with the $50,000.

The Long: After a ''Previously on Angel'' segment (see
Continuity #1) we open on Angel collecting loose change for baby Connor's piggy bank. Cordelia is holding Connor as Fred is setting up an Angel Investigations web site. Cordelia tells Angel she is worried he will lose sight of the mission with his new focus on making money, but he insists they have to earn a living. Wesley and Gunn walk in from passing out flyers for Angel Investigations as Fred announces the web site is up. They wait for the phone to start ringing, but nothing happens. As Angel assures Connor that Los Angeles is full of people who have problems we switch to a man being chased in the rain by an unseen monster. He falls to the ground and spots one of the flyers. The man runs to the pay phone and dials the number on the flyer. Back at Angel Investigations the phone is silent, as the call goes through to a pizza place. Fred looks at a flyer and asks if that is the right phone number. (Listen to the teaser here.)

Unfinished.

Creature Feature

Nahdras are puzzle people, who wear chrome face plates and speak in a series of clicks. They live on a barge and worship their prince, whose head wears out and needs replacing from time to time.

Brian is a zombie, an animated corpse. He seems to have retained his former personality, similar to zombies we have seen in Some Assembly Required and The Zeppo.

Cool Quotes

  1. Lorne: ''They either have to consult with their prince or go eat a cheese monkey. Did I mention rusty with the lingo?''
So maybe the cheese man will appear on Angel now?

References

    Yellow Pages
  1. Angel: ''There, beautiful. We're online. We got flyers, we got yellow pages. Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls, welcome to a new area of Angel Investigations. All we have to do now is wait, for that phone to start ringing and the money to start rolling in.''
The Yellow Pages are a directory of businesses and services. In print, they are on yellow paper: the simplest listing is a business name and phone number; more elaborate entries are ads with color and/or pictures. They are such an effective reference that directories in other media, such as the internet, are also called Yellow Pages. (Thanks to Melissa Evans for this information.)

    Spanish Inquisition
  2. Angel: ''It's not important, but we can't afford any more mistakes. Making mistakes cost money, and making money right now is our number one priority... Lorne, I need you to use your contacts to find out what Holtz is up to. He's out there somewhere. We can never forget that. Finding him is our number one priority... Finding Holtz and making money are our two number one priorities... Helping the helpless, finding Holtz, and making money are our THREE number one priorities.''
Is little joke seems to be a play on a skit by Monty Python's Flying Circus about the Spanish Inquisition. The skit went ''NOBODY expects the Spanish Inquisition! Our weapon is surprise...surprise and fear... fear and surprise... Our two weapons are fear and surprise... and ruthless efficiency... Our three weapons are fear, and surprise, and ruthless efficiency... and an almost fanatical devotion to the Pope... Amongst our weapons are fear, surprise... Amongst our weaponry... are such elements as fear... I'll come in again.''.

    Kahlua
  3. Host demon: ''If this is about the baby formula that I snagged from the fridge last night, sorry. I was feeling a little peckish and it was that or a glass of pig's blood. By the way, baby formula and Kaluha? Not as bad as it sounds.''
Kahlua is a Mexican coffee liqueur with herbs and vanilla.

    Snap, Crackle & Pop
  4. Cordelia: ''Lorne? It's all snap, crackle, pop to me.''
Snap, Crackle and Pop are the mascots of the Kellogg's Rice Krispies brand cereal. It has it's own web site at http://www.snapcracklepop.com/. Also referenced by Cordelia in Reunion.

    Jules Verne
  5. Host demon: ''Oh, nice décor! It's sort of a Jules Verne meets Leona Helmsley.''
Jules Verne, 1828-1905, was a novelist with a technical background. Among other stories, he wrote "A Journey to the Center of the Earth," "Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea," and "Around the World in 80 Days." He is considered one of the founders of science fiction.
Leona Helmsley, the billionaire New York real estate personality, served 18 months in prison and paid heavy fines for mail fraud and tax evasion. The media dubbed her the Queen of Mean. She made the now-famous remark ''Only the little people pay taxes.'' (Thanks to Melissa Evans for this information.)

    Ghostbusters
  6. Harlan: ''The guy's been a little bit off his nut ever since he lost his friend. Wanted me to pay some charlatan Ghostbuster to clean out an abandoned rat hole in mid-town. He was convinced vampires were nesting there. Some people would take advantage of a guy like that.''
Ghostbusters is a highly popular 1984 comedy film written by Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis. In the film, four men create a business to rid customers of ghosts and other paranormal pests, for a fee. (Thanks to Melissa Evans for this information.)

    Malibu
  7. Cordelia: ''Your aunt Cordy gets visions and your daddy is a... Well, you won't see him aging whole lot, or catching surf and sun in Malibu, but he is a good man, a champion, and he loves you very much. Plus, he's quite the natty dresser.''
Malibu is a closely knit residential community characterized by its carefully preserved rural atmosphere. Malibu's combined incorporated and unincorporated areas covers approximately 45,000 acres, is 27 miles long and one to eight miles wide. Within these boundaries are a variety of climates and terrain including beaches, mesas and canyons that create a unique environment. The population is approximately 27,800. (Thanks to Melissa Evans for this information.)

    Rolex
  8. Angel: ''No, I think I earned it, don't you? What is it? Rolex?''
    Sam: ''Timex.''
Rolex is a popular fine watch brand in the world. They pioneered and invented several major watch concepts, such as the first certified chronometer, the first effective waterproof and dustproof watch casing, the first wristwatch with an automatic changing date, and the techniques used in mass-manufacturing of premium watches. They have a web site at http://www.rolex.com/.
Timex makes affordable, durable personal time pieces. Anyone can afford a Timex, and it may last a person's lifetime. (Thanks to Melissa Evans for this information.)

    Aspen
  9. Cordelia: ''Okay. College fund, pay our bills, and rent a ski condo in Aspen.''
Aspen is a city of west-central Colorado in the Sawatch Range of the Rocky Mountains. Founded in 1879 by silver prospectors, it is now a fashionable ski resort. It has a population of 5,049.

Dad - Holtz killed his Grappler demons.

Goofs

  1. When Angel leaves Connor with Cordelia it is sunny outside and he says Connor should get his next feeding at 3:00, which would suggest that it's early afternoon. Angel seems to be in a hurry, but when he arrives where he was going it's after sundown outside. How far away is this job?

    Points Of View

    Mathew:

I don't know why the crew had to even think about taking the money, obviously they earned it, and they should have taken the Nahdra's computers and other valuables too!
