 | Danny Strong: Please Vote! Plus: Discuss the current election! |

Please Vote
Hey Everybody -
I just wanted to urge all of you to please vote on Tuesday. I had never planned on politicizing fan boards, but this election is so close, I feel I have a responsibility to say something, even at the cost of offending people who have the good taste to post here. As many of you know, I am a strong supporter of John Kerry. I believe that George W. Bush has not only taken this country in the wrong direction, but has lied to us about the reasons behind the Iraqi War. I can't think of a greater offense to humanity than misleading the world into War. He has also taken our economy from a 5 trillion dollar surplus to a 5 trillion dollar deficit, rolled back thirty years of environmental protection, underfunded his signature education program "No-Child-Left Behind", made it illegal for senior citizens to buy prescription drugs from Canada, is the first president to not create a single job during his tenure since the depression...and the list of failures goes on and on. I constantly ask myself, "What has he done right?" He told this country in 2000 that he was a uniter, not a divider, but he has divided this nation to the point where the air itself brims with hostility.
Senator John Kerry is a principled and INTELLIGENT man who has dedicated his life to public service. Born into wealth, he decided at a young age that he wasn't going to let his advantages in life get in the way of his duty to his country. He enlisted in the Vietnam War instead of using his wealth and privilege to get out of service (something that George W. Bush absolutely did) and after he came home from the war, he protested the war because of what he saw there. To me this is an unbelievable act of heroism, it's not enough that he fought for his country when he didn't have to, but he fought against the war when he saw how wrong it was. His career in the Senate has been a blend of left and right wing causes. He has consistently fought for the rights of workers and the middle class, and has broken with the Democratic Party on issues like the Budget. In 1993, he helped the Republican Party push through a bill that required President Clinton to balance the Budget simply because it was the right thing to do (Remember when Republicans used to be fiscally responsible?). Overall, he is a man whose heart is in the right place and whose mind is sharp and ready for what the job requires. Every act that George W. Bush has taken has been on behalf of making the wealthy even wealthier. Whether it be letting Corporations cheat consumers and pollute our water and skies or by giving large tax cuts to the wealthiest 2% at the cost of our economy sinking further and further into debt.
I had never been politically active in my life, but this President's policies and judgment offended my sense of justice to the point that I was propelled into action. Please, please, please VOTE on Tuesday. This election is going to be determined by voter turnout. So many key states are extremely close. It is our duty as not only citizens, but as human beings to take control of our destiny and do what is right for history. The world is counting on us.
Love,
Danny Strong
Right now, it is not clear, who, Bush or Kerry is going to be the president for the next four years!
Who is the right one? Any surprises? Tell us, what you think!!
If you are US-inhabitants and you voted, where are you from and are you sadisfied with the result in your state? Rock the vote and rock this topic with your comments!
