"Dodgeball Breaks Out at 'Dodgeball' Party"

 LOS ANGELES - Grab life by the ball. At least that's what Benji Madden of the band Good Charlotte did at the DVD release party for "Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story" at Hollywood's Palladium Tuesday night.
Madden and cast members from "Dodgeball," "American Pie" and "Napoleon Dynamite" teamed up to duck, dip and dive at a celebrity dodgeball tournament for the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation.
"I'm not afraid of the balls," said Madden. "The more black clothes, the more tattoos, the more intimidation."
Although Madden looked more like the hard rocker he is than an athlete, he was prepared to defeat the competition. "I played baseball and peewee football growing up," he said.
And his winning strategy?
"I'm going to have poor sportsmanship," said the ever-so-honest Madden. "Offensive defense."
The plan worked, as the boys of Good Charlotte did a good job at crushing Team All-American, which included "American Pie" co-stars Chris Klein and Alyson Hannigan.
Although "Dodgeball" star Vince Vaughn wasn't present to coach his fellow cast members, a few hit the court, calling themselves the Underdogs.
They were anything but.
"We trained for two weeks (for the film) and each and every one of us went to the producer and told them we had to have a month off before we shot the movie," said Joel David Moore.
 Moore, who played the film's introverted outcast, said the entire team matched — in black and blue. "We had bruises all over our bodies!" he said.
The Underdogs defeated the "Napoleon Dynamite" team in what must have been the fastest recorded time in the history of celebrity dodgeball.
Just as Jon Heder, Napoleon Dynamite himself, was abandoned to singularly defend his team with a recently recovered broken foot, the professionally trained Underdogs conquered quickly.
Heder collapsed as two balls whizzed past him and a third pegged his upper torso.
Earlier in the evening, when all the competition was on the red carpet, Shondrella Avery, who played LaFawnduh in "Napoleon Dynamite," had a few words directed at "Dodgeball" star Ben Stiller.
"I'll take him on. He's a chester; he comes up to my chest," she told The Associated Press. "I'm not afraid of that little one."
Perhaps wisely, the 5-foot-8-inch Stiller dodged the game.
