Greenlighted Pilots May Be TV's New Look
LOS ANGELES - Will TV audiences love "I Love Faron Hitchman"? Will they even get a chance to find out?
The sitcom has been "greenlighted" by NBC, which means that if everything falls into place — script, casting, production, budget — it could, just maybe, find a home at the network.
It's just one of many series' pilots that are being crafted now in hope that the TV gods (a.k.a. network executives) will smile on them when the 2005-06 fall or midseason lineups are decided.
The proposed NBC comedy about the challenges facing a bride from a close-knit Italian-American family and her new husband is from actor-writer Carlos Jacott (he has guested on "CSI," "The West Wing," "Frasier" and "Seinfeld," among others["Buffy" and "Firefly", too]).
"It's 'Mad About You' meets 'The Sopranos' but with a very indie (film) feel," said Shelley McCrory, senior vice president for comedy series at NBC Universal Television Studios.

If that sounds like an intriguing hybrid, consider this: "Route 66" meets "The X-Files." That's how WB entertainment chief David Janollari describes greenlighted drama "Supernatural."
"It's a very cool concept about two brothers traveling the country, hunting down supernatural beings. ... The intent here is to do something genuinely scary" in the WB tradition of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," he said.
