Stewie stars in a new DVD
DVD sales can do wonders for a dead TV show. Joss Whedon's 2002 Fox flop, "Firefly," returns this fall as the big-screen feature "Serenity," after the cult fave's DVD set sold by the tens of thousands.
The same network ordered up new episodes of the 2000-02 ratings bomb "Family Guy," when DVD sales of the canceled series hit 2.5 million, meaning practically every person who saw the show bought the set. Now that the May TV revival of animator Seth MacFarlane's ruthless satire is nestled comfortably amid Fox's Sunday night comedy block, it's DVD time again.
Fox Home Entertainment will release "Family Guy Presents Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story" Sept. 27, an unrated direct-to-DVD movie spotlighting the family's homicidal tot. Usually bent on killing his mother and pursuing world domination, the scheming Stewie now hits the road in search of his "real" father. Guest voices include Drew Barrymore and the "Beverly Hills 90210" triumvirate of Tori
Spelling, Jason Priestley and Jennie Garth. The DVD will also include special features, such as animatics, deleted scenes and commentary, list priced at $30 on both DVD and mini-size UMD for Sony PSP portables.
