The unthinkable is happening on UPN's Veronica Mars. It's getting better.
"I really liked episode eight," executive producer Rob Thomas says of the latest episode. "But everyone at the network said this Wednesday's episode was their favorite [one] ever."
Those of us who've followed this brilliant underdog series know that, if true, this is no small feat. Of course, the buzz could have something to do with a certain jaw-dropping twist near the end of the episode, which I learned about during a recent visit to the San Diego set. It's so surprising, they've shot two versions, which Kristen Bell discusses in the video clip.
Not to mention a certain fanbase might go especially ape-dung over this ep, given that Buffy's Willow (Alyson Hannigan) and Cordelia (Charisma Carpenter) are reuniting.
"It is a smackdown!" Charisma tells me of her scene, in which her character, Kendall Casablancas, comes face to face with her boy-toy's sister, Trina Echolls (Alyson). "The bitch in the bikini is taking on Logan's bitchy sister."
"It's good, but it's so weird," Alyson says of the reunion, adding that she "was channeling Cordelia" during the scene. "It doesn't feel like it's been however many years it's been. We picked up right back where we were. I'm expecting Nick to walk in any second now!"
As you can see in the video clip, these Buffy babes are truly grateful to have each other on the set. As is Miss Mars herself. "I've had a lot more scenes with Alyson," Kristen Bell tells me, "who's absolutely lovely. She's really, really funny. And I've only had the one scene with Charisma, but they're both great
Rob agrees. "Charisma is a doll," Rob told me earlier this week via the batphone. He happened to be on set directing (his first time on Veronica Mars!) the 11th episode, which he also wrote and guest stars Lucy Lawless. When I mentioned how smokin' hot Charisma has been looking this season, R.T. confessed, "I have her in a shower scene in my episode. Basically, the rule is, the less clothing we can put her in, the better. However, the Standards and Practices people have a lot to do!"
Especially in those love scenes with Jason Dohring (Logan), which he talks about in the video clip. And, of course, I had to ask Charisma, who insists that although Jason is a bit reserved in person, "You know what? He's surprising. You think the packaging is just so demure, but, ohhh...he's fun! He's really fun." (Hear that? It's the sound of a-Dohring fans everywhere whimpering with jealousy.)
