Browncoat fans are putting together a recipe book with all proceeds going to charity. "The best recipes in the 'verse ... put together by Browncoats, for Browncoats." |
Big Damn Chefs: The International Charity Browncoat Cookbook.
About Big Damn Chefs:
Many folks over the last couple of years have tried to start up a Browncoat cookbook. But Big Damn Chefs: The International Browncoat Charity Cookbook (BDC) really got off the ground when Yonukdeh proposed it on the former message board at Universal's site for Serenity and went ahead and set up a Fundcraft account to collect the recipes.
Together with fellow members of the now-defunct Universal message boards (many of whom have moved to the new Browncoats board), the cookbook began to come to life with recipes from fans and our Big Damn Heroes. The publishing plan has since changed from Fundcraft to the extensive and versitile capabilities that CafePress publishing provides. The book will be 5.5'x8", have a full color cover and black and white illustrations, spiral binding, and will be a bit under 200 pages. All proceeds from the sale of the books would go to the chosen charity, Freedom From Hunger.
The goal for making the cookbook available for purchase is currently June 1, 2006. For now, our focus is to get the website up and running (check!), to spread the word a bit, and get more recipes from more fans. Shawna Trpcic (Firefly's costume designer) and Greg Edmonson (the man responsible for Firefly's incredible music) have already agreed to contribute to the book, and we're soliciting recipes from our other Big Damn Heroes, as well! So the plan is that you'll be seeing recipes from Nathan, Gina, Adam, Alan, Jewel, Morena, Summer, Sean, Ron, Joss, Tim, etc, in the book, too!!
Coming soon will also be the details of the cover art contest! The grand prize will be, of course, that your artwork will be used on the cover, and a copy of the book (which, if we're lucky, we might be able to get some autographs in). Runner up prizes are in the works, too. We'll also be needing some black and white illustrations for the inside of the book - it would be great if we had some Firefly/Serenity-cooking themed illos from our own Browncoats!
