 | Global Pop talks to some guests from the verse Popping up to chat with a gentleman, a cop, and a couple of evil lawyers. |
Stephanie Romanov
Lilah Morgan (1999-2004)
I'm happy to say that Stephanie Romanov is very sweet and friendly in person.
She is a total contrast to the driven and manipulative evil corporate lawyer, Lilah Morgan from the TV series ANGEL.
interview highlights
Romanov is a famous Russian name. Stephanie is of Russian descent.
GlobalPop:What is a question that you wish journalists would ask but never do?
She thought for a moment and was unsure. So, I jokingly asked. What's your favorite color?
Stephanie Romanov:"Green. Lilah green."
I think that she was kind of in an alliteration and poetic mood so next came the phrase, "limousine diamonds and the color green."
GlobalPop: Do you remember much of the dialogue from ANGEL? Do you have any favorite one-liners?
Stephanie Romanov:"Some scripts stick."
GlobalPop: Was it difficult having to have recite so much dialogue in legalese "lawyer speak"?
Stephanie Romanov:"No."
GlobalPop: How many CONS have you attended?
Stephanie Romanov:"A bunch."
Her sister was there and filled me in that STEPHANIE has attended 9 cons, including 4 in the UK.
GlobalPop: What were your childhood influences that inspired your interest in acting?
Stephanie Romanov:"I'm a movie buff. Musicals for sure. I was really interested in ballet."
Acting was a fallback to pursue if her dreams of being a ballerina never happened.
GlobalPop: Do you maintain a personal library?
Stephanie Romanov:"My movie library is mostly DVD. I TIVO alot of stuff, too."
GlobalPop: Can you name 3 movies from your library?
Stephanie Romanov:"SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION"
She loves the movie overall and the performance by Morgan Freeman

Christian Kane is a modern day renaissance man. He is best known to fans for playing the evil corporate lawyer, Lindsey McDonald on the TV series ANGEL. He is also very proud of his band, KANE.

http://www.kanemusic.com/
http://www.myspace.com/kanecountry
GlobalPop:"Do you prefer Chris or Christian?"
Christian Kane: "Whatever. Chris, Christian, Kane. They're interchangeable."
GlobalPop:"Please tell me something about LIFE OR SOMETHING LIKE IT."
Christian Kane: "It has an honor working with Angelina Jolie. Some people would cut off their right arm to have the opportunity offered to them. I got to play her fiance. Nobody can take that away from me."
GlobalPop:"What was it like appearing in SECONDHAND LIONS?"
Christian Kane: "I got to be 'the young Robert Duvall' character. I spent two weeks with him hanging out so that I could learn his mannerisms."
CHRIS says that THE GODFATHER is one of his all time favorite movies and a great influence on him. There are so many great actors in THE GODFATHER that he admires: "Robert Duvall, James Caan, Marlon Brando, of course."
CHRIS says it's too bad that he'll never get the chance to work with Marlon Brando, but he feels so honored to be able to say the he knows and worked with James Caan on LAS VEGAS and Robert Duvall in SECONDHAND LIONS.
He's a great fan of all of Robert Duvall's movies including
THE GODFATHER and THE GREAT SANTINI
GlobalPop: "Do you embrace technology?"
CHRIS was unsure about the question at first. As far as the use of digital characters replacing actors, he had a definite opinion.
Christian Kane: "I don't like that sh*t". Not when "technology takes away my job."
I tried to come up with a relevant example. I mentioned that for In The Line of Fire digital imagery of a very young Clint Eastwood from the time of Dirty Harry was used to show a young Clint Eastwood as a raw cadet. The producers did it to make a point and decided NOT to hire an a different actor to play the youthful version of Eastwood's character.
CHRIS did come up with an example of how he loves technology.
on doing voice over for the 24 video game
http://www.2kgames.com/24/
Christian Kane: "Love technology when it is cool and amazing."
He really enjoyed doing the voice-over work for the 24 video game.
"It was me against Keifer Sutherland. I play Madsen, the bad guy."
"The real life stuff is the best in the world. It's real, the risk of the danger of getting it wrong, I'm the only one who can screw it up, that's the arenaline rush."
GlobalPop: "Is the collaborative process of acting important to you?"
Christian Kane:
CHRIS really enjoys the teamwork aspect of the collaborative process.
"You have to keep your ear open. I don't have the last word"
CHRIS likes to take on a challenge. He really enjoyed doing some stunt work for the episode where Lindsey had a sword fight with David Boreanaz as Angel. Doing the wire work for the elaborate fight sequence was great fun for CHRIS. "I got to do a back flip and jump all over and do sword fighting."
from
http://www.kanemusic.com/
KANE was formed in 1998 by Christian Kane & Steve Carlson. Both are accomplished songwriters and guitarists whose passion to create and share their special breed of "outlaw country" soon became a Los Angeles phenomenon.
GlobalPop: "Can you tell me more about your band?"
Christian Kane:
CHRIS is the front man for his own band KANE, a 6 piece Southern Country Rock Band.
"It's KICK-ASS COUNTRY!"
CHRIS really enjoys the music scene equally as much as he enjoys acting.
Music and acting are "two totally different things. Music and actor...I like them both."
"I do play guitar, just well enough to write."
CHRIS mentioned how proud he is of his close friend and lead guitarist for his band, KANE.
"Steve Carlson did the instrumental song L.A. which ANGEL producer David Greenwald wrote."
GlobalPop: "Where did you grow up?"
Christian Kane: "I grew up in Oklahoma. I was born in Texas. I'm very proud being raised in Oklahoma. My Daddy was in the oil business. we moved around a lot. I went to 5 different elementary schools."

03/18/2006 - Elisabeth Rohm interview highlights
ELISABETH ROHM
interview highlights
ELISABETH ROHM has an incredible command of the english language and use of vocabulary. She rarely has to think about a question. I was often surprised about what she had to say and how much she has to say. She loves to give of herself to others.
I feel that ELISABETH ROHM would make a great teacher, her ease of conveying abstract concepts quickly yet in great detail and so eloquently is a great asset and quickly comes across as part of her personality and charm.
GlobalPop: Do you ever get tired of hearing the same questions over and over from the press? What is a question that you wish journalists would ask but never do?
ELISABETH ROHM: "I enjoy doing the press junkets and interviews. I love the attention and photos taken by the paparazzi.I have no problem spending time with the obligations of press conferences and photo shoots etc. I like them."
Elisabeth does not feel that the mass media "distorts her perception of herself in the print and other media." She has lots to add and would gladly do so if given the opportunity to talk at length.
GlobalPop: Where do you live?
ELISABETH ROHM: "I'm bi-coastal."
GlobalPop: "Do you feel that you are better known for LAW & ORDER or ANGEL?"
ELISABETH ROHM: "I'm better known for LAW & ORDER."
GlobalPop: "What inspired you to pursue acting?"
ELISABETH ROHM:
She explained that acting was a great way to get away from what she usually did. "I studied history and philosophy was placing too much emphasis on making things 'too mental'. I'm very analytical and thinking all the time. Artists, actors, "creative people in general" (and of course, the cast of ANGEL are "renaissance people") there is much more to them than just the characters they play on screen.
"I love the arts in general. Enjoy doing what they do well, not just acting, but working together and doing art for art's sake."
GlobalPop: "What is important to you about acting?"
ELISABETH ROHM: "Not stepping away from things that you love or having to give something up to do something else."
GlobalPop: "What kind of role would you like to pursue that you haven't done before?"
ELISABETH ROHM: "I would love to be an action hero. I would actively pursue taking on the role of playing a female action hero like the next Wonder Woman or Catwoman etc."
GlobalPop: "When did you start acting?"
ELISABETH ROHM: "I started acting in college."
GlobalPop: "What aspects of entertainment influenced you?"
ELISABETH ROHM: "There are several actors that I admire as being great motivators: DUSTIN HOFFMAN, GLENN CLOSE, DIANE KEATON."
GlobalPop: "Who else do you like?"
ELISABETH ROHM: "I would love to work with my contemporaries: CATE BLANCHETT, LEONARDO DICAPRIO, CLIVE OWEN."
GlobalPop: Do you maintain a personal library?
ELISABETH ROHM:
ELISABETH is an avid reader and devours books regularly. 3 current books she's read:
"Biography of Paul Williams, Marcus Aurelius. Right now, I'm re-reading The Prince of Tides by Pat Conroy."
GlobalPop: "What are some of your favorite books?"
ELISABETH ROHM:
Sorrows of Young Werther by Goethe
Letters of Young Poet by Rilke
Leni Riefenstahl by Leni Riefenstahl
Out of Africa by Isak Dinesen
"I have seen the movie Out of Africa about 50 times."
GlobalPop: "Speaking of Out of Africa, It's also one of my favorites, too."
We both agreed that the moment of her servant addressing her by saying "you are Karin, Sabu" is extremely poignant and sums up the film's meaning of trying to break down the barriers of racism and class in a caste society.
GlobalPop: Can you name 3 movies from your library?
ELISABETH ROHM: "I enjoy all Merchant Ivory productions, and CINEMA PARADISO."
She feels that she was the little boy hanging out with the projectionist. "I love the story of how the characters' love for movies was a bond that brought them together." BIG NIGHT (1996) directed by Campbell Scott and Stanley Tucci is one of her favorites.
GlobalPop: I really enjoy films that are about people.
ELISABETH ROHM: "I try to see movies that are human stories."
ELISABETH loves watching movies and to go out to the theater often, but prefers to watch DVD at home. "I'm a homebody"
GlobalPop: "Tell me something about working with Joss Whedon."
ELISABETH ROHM: "Joss Whedon is a cross between a great philosopher and Dr. Seuss. Joss helped me with my character of Kate to be what I represented."
GlobalPop: "Which episodes of ANGEL are your favorites?"
ELISABETH ROHM: "The episode where my father died and Sensitivity Training."
GlobalPop: "Do you feel that you have much in common with Kate or other characters you've played?"
ELISABETH ROHM:
She feels that she is very different from the characters she has played. She says that whenever possible she tries to be in the "same emotional place"
GlobalPop: "Any advice you would give to aspiring actors and others pursuing a career in entertainment?"
ELISABETH ROHM: "Think outside of the box. Don't be like anybody else. Being in the cool crowd is overrated. Never give up."
GlobalPop: "Do you have interest in other aspects of the entertainment industry?"
ELISABETH ROHM: "I want to produce. I love it. I want to be on the other side of the camera."
ELISABETH also likes to sing and write.
GlobalPop: "Did you have any difficulty or struggles finding work early in your career?"
ELISABETH ROHM: "No, Not much difficulty in the past. I consider myself lucky. Most of the things I've done are very big."
As far as her working in entertainment long-term it "could be another 50 more years". Only time will tell. She's very happy with her acting as a profession. "I love my career."
most people she works with are very interesting and creative. She is definitely a people person and enjoys meeting wonderful and inspiring people.
ELISABETH has a very positive attitude and really enjoys being a working actor. "You love what you do. You follow your heart. Not much to complain about."

GlobalPop: "I downloaded the trailer for KNOCK KNOCK and enjoyed it. Can you tell me more about it?
DOUG JONES:
DOUG quickly explained that he plays a door to door salesman with a really lousy job that he hates in KNOCK KNOCK. KNOCK KNOCK is the brainchild of his longtime college friend, director Morgan Mead. Morgan Mead thought that DOUG was perfectly suited to play the role. Currently the trailer is just a promotional teaser to show off as a sample in hopes of finding additional funding to finish it a full length feature. "Morgan originally wrote the lead character's role with DOUG in mind as a college thesis."
Doug explained that he would do just about project that Morgan Mead offers him due to their long friendship.
"Me taking a crap... I would do it" IF Morgan directed, of course. "I'll be 46 in MAY. I really enjoyed playing a character that was my own age." the subject matter of a "mild life, and a mundane boring job, and goth kids had its unique appeal. I'm a chameleon that way."

DOUG JONES:"I prefer makeup and I don't mind doing the elaborate procedures required for many of the special effects makeups I've done."
DOUG explained that he feels blessed and that most of the special effects makeup wizards that he's gotten to work with really appreciate his patience and gifts that allow him to be a great subject for the whole process.
"I'm most patient and I love being able to take part in the end result" ABE SAPIEN often took 7 hours to be applied.
On HELLBOY the animated series
DOUG plays ABE SAPIEN once again and will do the voice-overs for his character. HELLBOY the animated series is currently in production and will premiere on the Cartoon Network as a two-part episode. He feels that the material should appeal to a wide audience emphasizing content geared to viewers age 13 and older.

DOUG JONES:"YES. I started my mime background in college at BALL STATE University in Indiana. I was in a mime troop called MIME OVER MANNER." DOUG feels that mime was a "movie induced manner" for him.
"I'm a ectomorph. I can't put on any weight to save my life. That would be me."
GlobalPop:"What is a question that you wish journalists would ask but never do?"
DOUG JONES:"Oh my, that question, for one. My personal life. I've been happily married for 22 years to a woman outside show business, that's why we work so well together."
GlobalPop: "Do you have any upcoming projects?"

Doug joked that being worshipped could end up a "big responsibility" that he may not want to be involved with.
GlobalPop: "Do you maintain a personal library?"
DOUG JONES: "Do you mean books? Most books I own were given to me for when I rarely do have the time to read them. I enjoy having romance novels being read to me by my nieces when I'm on vacation."
GlobalPop: "Can you name a few books that you do own?"
DOUG JONES: "Wild At Heart by John Eldredge, It's non-fiction about men reclaiming their birthright as men. This Present Darkness by Frank E. Peretti, The Book I read most often is the holy bible. GlobalPop: "What were your childhood influences that inspired your interest in acting?"
DOUG JONES: "When I was young, I was very shy and geeky. My lanky building and height made many kids call me names like giraffe and osterrich. I enjoyed becoming the class clown. I would much rather make my classmates laugh than have them laugh at me. Many characters on TV were my best friends. Most of my favorites were sitcoms and variety shows. When I was around seven years old, the DICK VAN DYKE SHOW and the CAROL BURNETT show were great influences on me. CAROL BURNETT could be my mother. The expressions on her face and so much about her reminds me of me. I could watch her hour after hour."
