Serenity download available in Sweden!

'Serenity' will become one of the first Legal downloaded movies in Sweden from The 22nd of May!
Movie companies are now changing strategies to get a handle on the illegal download! Sweden is now the second country in the world that will legally be allowed to download new movies! Such movies include King Kong and Serenity!

"It's unusual for a big Hollywood studio to not launch a service in the states first. But we chose Scandinavia because you have such a high number of broadband households and also unusually fast connections", says Eddie Cunningham, Scandinavian chief at Universal to TT Spektra.

This model only exists in Great Britain right now. Behind the launch stands Universal and film2home.se who will, on the premier of this project, offer a total of 35 movies. Other movies include King Kong, Serenity, Nanny McPhee and Pride and Prejudice.

Eddie Cunningham said "The reason we're starting this service is because we see an obvious trend. People want to see movies whenever, wherever, with whatever hardware and with the best possible quality",

Stockholm City tells us that: Each movie will cost 229 SEK (that's about 30 USD, Dana's calculation) and will be delivered in three versions: one for pc, one for portable media players and a DVD that will be sent directly when you order the movie. "This is a test activity. We're dipping our toes in the water to see if/how it will work", says Eddie Cunningham.

Do you think projects like this will help stop illegal movie downloading for good?

Thanks to Dana for sending in this news!
