 | Buffy Season 8 Buffy Season 8 the Comic Book is coming out really soon! We have the details for everyone! |
From comics she was born, and to comics she shall return: Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s post-cancellation adventures will soon begin anew — penned by Joss Whedon himself — in the pages of Dark Horse Comics. Here’s an exclusive cover image (by artist Georges Jeanty) from issue No. 1. As you can see, she’s kept in shape during her hiatus. (Dark Horse will debut No. 1 at Comic-Con this week.)
This isn’t Buffy’s first foray into comics. And it remains to be seen if it ranks anywhere near Joss Whedon’s best foray into comics: the all-too-brief "future slayer" saga Fray, which follows the dystopic advetures of Buffster’s 24th-century successor. (Some will persuasively argue that this is Joss’ best comics effort. I will counter with a spin move and the old axe-to-the-head. So watch it.)
So what’s going on in the extended Buffyverse? Well, you may recall the show ended with the creation of an army of Slayers. Now they’re organized, and the tide has turned in favor of the good guys. Ah, but you know how much Whedon hates winners: Soon an "old enemy" surfaces (Dark Horse is cagey on Big Bad’s identity), and Dawn starts "experiencing serious growing pains." I hope that means the Scoobies will be fighting a mutant, undead Alan Thicke.

I thought that the Buffy Season 8 comics were already out. That's good that they're not. I hope it'll be universal, too.
As to Angel. I'm not quite sure. I've read it somewhere, saying that in the 8th Season comics, Buffy would stil lbe dating Immortal. And if they want to bring anyone back from Angel's last episode, they should start thinking of good excuses.
Gosh! Think this'll probably effect the fictions?! | | Forgotten_Conscience | 19.07.06 - 06:09 | Of course it'll affect the fanfictions. Anything that's post-Chosen that isn't a lot like the comics themselves (which I suspect there are more than a few of), will have to be renamed to say the least. Something along the lines of "Post Season 7 AU" or something might be best. The good part is that this will probably spawn a whole new interest in fanfiction. Fics could potentially come out of the woodwork once the "new season" starts.
My own personal biggest question is what they mean by Dawn "experiencing serious growing pains". The show made references to Dawn becoming powerful when she grew up, this could be the explanation of that. I can't wait to find out.
As for Angel, it's my understanding that the Angel comics that have come out either have explained, or will explain how any such members of the Angel Inc. team survived. I look forward to learning about it all. Should be a bunch of fun. | | SlayersBlood | 19.07.06 - 06:14 | | The pic kinda looks like Mischa Barton..anyone agree? But I CAN'T WAIT for the comics. | | SpuffyFreak | 19.07.06 - 07:26 | Yeah, I thought so. But it can't just change permanently all of the new fan-fiction relates.
What if they only sell this new Season 8 throughout South America? Or only some parts of Europe?! That'll totally confuse most of the fiction readers.
As to the Dawn issue -- They probably meant "sexual experiences" and those rubish. Ugh! I hope it won't turn out as something like the Catwoman's comic, that I've heard, that they draw the sexual allusions and all. That'll just be plain twisted! | | amay | 19.07.06 - 07:52 | | This is kinda weird though.... I don't want it to differ from the actual series alot... like you know in comics where alot MORE false things happen that sort of dumb it down>? Maybe I'm the only one who thinks this but I hope that the comics follow the series as far as how the characters act and don't portray all new characteristics. | | kxin | 19.07.06 - 09:55 | | Whoooaa!! love the drawing.. and damn, i'm going to get my hands on those comics! it's gonna be my first .. :) | | sdf88 | 19.07.06 - 17:36 | | when does it come out in the US? | | Forgotten_Conscience | 19.07.06 - 19:47 | Well, the first and last comic are apparently going to be written by Joss himself, and the others are going to be written by other writers. He can set up the future comic "episodes" and make sure that the story goes where he needs it to go in order to have the last one make sense. He probably has the arc of the comics series all figured out for the other writers to follow, just like he did with Buffy. Plus, given the fact that Joss is involved, it's more than likely that the characters will follow who they were in the show.
When it comes to Dawn and the whole sexual experiences thing, they would've said something like "exploring her sexuality". But they used the words "experiencing serious growing pains", which implies that she doesn't have a choice in whatever's happening to her. She's simply reacting to what's going on. I suppose we'll know for absolute sure when the comics come out. | | emmie | 19.07.06 - 21:00 | | aww- so cool! i am well getting this when it comes out | | greta | 20.07.06 - 04:59 | yes yes yes
This is what I want to see. Can somebody please define "really soon”?
| | rt | 20.07.06 - 05:22 | | I hope these will be online and I don't have to buy them. They're not worth buying if Angel's not in them. Who wants to hear about Buffy and the Immortal? Anyone in their right mind already hates the guy. With the disappointment of the 6 and 7th seasons, I don't want there to be anymore stories that can mess it up even worse, especially since Buffy already had an ending. It's telling where Joss' priorities lie since he's not finishing the Angel series. He's leaving that a big gaping hole that none of us will know the answers to (and we'll have to put up with those idiots saying they all died, ignoring all the facts), but at the same time I want to know what happens in the Buffy comics just in case it's good. I guess if Spike's not in it I might like it. The art is good. | | jediwarrior | 20.07.06 - 15:08 | | Does anyone know what month this is coming out in. i can't find it anywhere | | hogwaffle | 20.07.06 - 15:43 | | Anyone else wondering if these will take place after the book "queen of the slayers" because that book took up as they were driving away from sunnydale, so seems to be important that it would take place after it. Which would also be after Angel which would leave space for us to know what happened to Angel too. | | jediwarrior | 20.07.06 - 17:19 | | it tells you in the Queen of the Slayers Book about what happens to Angel and Spike | | rt | 20.07.06 - 19:43 | | Queen of the Slayers isn't canon. It was written by Nancy Holder. | | SpuffyFreak | 20.07.06 - 22:22 | | Queen of the Slayers Book, eh? HEY! I don't have that book. It can't start up from there. I'd better buy it, soon. >.<' | You have to be logged in to comment. | |
