Authors Chapter Notes:
I originally wrote this back in the Summer of ’02, I have gone back and edited them some and they have now been beta’d by the lovely Tistoo

A/N2: This one was written in response to the 'Starcrossed Lovers' Challenge for June-Something romantic, any pairing, as long as it is a believable one and you have the two of them totally and completely in love. Smut is fine, but it isn't necessary. (challenge info listed at the bottom of the fic.)

It was a normal summer night in Sunnydale. The moon was full, the stars shone bright and there was a gentle breeze in the warm night as Spike stepped onto the porch of the Summers' home. He fidgeted nervously in his unusual attire; the normal black jeans and t-shirt had been shed for this night.

Looking down he wasn't sure if he’d made the right decision. The khaki Dockers, white t-shirt and midnight blue button down shirt, worn open, which made his eyes even bluer. He was a little uncomfortable, but he remembered what Nibblet had said-- "Surprise her."

Standing at the front door, he knocked.

Meanwhile Buffy and Dawn were in Buffy's room while the slayer tried desperately to find the prefect outfit. The room was covered with rejected possibilities, but Buffy walked over to the closet once again.

"You're changing again? That's like the millionth time!"

"It isn't! It’s only the hundredth." Buffy joked. "I need to look perfect, Dawn."

"It won't matter what you wear. He's seen you at your worst, and he still loves you. He must be crazy!" Dawn reminded her, rolling her eyes as Buffy pulled yet another outfit from the closet.

Hearing a knock at the door, Buffy panicked, eyes pleading with her sister to stall him just a few minutes more while she changed. Rolling her eyes at her sister one last time, Dawn went down to answer the door.

Dawn opened the door and saw Spike in the surprising clothes. "Wow, you look great, maybe you shouldn’t wear black all the time."

Spike uncomfortably shifted from one foot to the other, "Hi Nibblet, is big Sis ready?"

She couldn't help but smile, “She’ll be right down. Come in."

A moment later Buffy was standing in the top step, 'not perfect' she thought turning to change once again, but it was too late. Spike was already standing there starring at her.

She wore a long, flowing, pale yellow sundress with pretty blue flowers, with a low, halter-style back. Her hair was pinned up with a clip and strappy sandals completed her outfit.

Spike was in awe. "Ya look beautiful," he whispered to himself a little louder than he meant to, which made her blush. "Are ya ready to go, Pet?"

"You still haven't told me where we're going," she said, coming down the stairs.

"Not telling ya, it's a surprise.” He smirked.

Dawn couldn't have been happier. Her sister and her favorite vamp were going on an honest to god date. She couldn't be any prouder of herself for setting the whole thing up. "I'll be fine, you two have fun tonight." She grinned giving them both a hug.

"Goodnight Dawnie."

"Night, bit." Spike added as they walked out the door.

Just before reaching the car, Spike stopped Buffy. Pulling her closer, he drew a long silky scarf from his pocket. She couldn't help the strange look she gave him.

"Trust me, its part of the surprise," he said, putting the blind-fold on her. Then he lead her the rest of the way to the car and helped her in.

~~~~~~
Arriving at their secret location, Spike walked around the car and helped her out, starting to lead her through an opening in the trees.
"Can I take this thing off yet?" Buffy asked hopefully.
"No, not yet," he told her as they continued walking through the woods. "You'll ruin it." He smirked as she sighed.
"Well, are we almost there?" she asked. She’d never had anyone do this before and she was nervous, and yet at the same time she was thrilled.
"Be patient, luv. We’re almost there." Spike couldn't help but smile at her as she made a face in protest.
He kept smiling as he led her to a clearing on the hillside where a large blanket was spread out on the ground. Upon it sat a picnic basket full of all her favorite foods, a bottle of chilled wine, two elegant wine glasses, and a small cooler set off to the side.
Coming to a stop at his direction, she pleaded with him, "Can I take this off, yet?"
"Not yet. Patience luv, patience. It’ll be worth it, I promise." Lowering her to her knees, he started to unpack the basket.
Finally-- after everything was just perfect-- he walked behind her and kneeled. Taking a moment to admire her beauty, his hands finally moved and he untied the blindfold.
Buffy gasped, seeing what was before her. She couldn't believe he’d gone to so much trouble. "You did all this for me?" she asked astonished.
"Yeah pet, I'd do anything for ya," he murmured, kissing her shoulder. "I wanted it to be perfect, just like ya."
Turning her head to look into the endless blue sea of his eyes, she gently brushed her lips over his. "Thank you," she whispered, kissing him softly at first, but then more deeply.
After a few minutes Buffy broke the passionate kiss, unable to breathe. Sitting beside her, Spike started to feed her. Buffy giggled, noticing the foods he’d chosen to pack. Oysters, grapes and other fresh fruit with whipped cream to dip it in, chocolate dipped strawberries and spicy buffalo chicken wings.
"What?" he smirked, feeding her a grape.
"I didn't know the Bronze catered?" Buffy giggled, motioning to the wings.
"Well, I felt a little peckish," wagging his brow, he gave her his patented smirk before feeding her another one.
They sat there for a while feeding each other in the warm summer night. Buffy leaned back into his chest while he told her the stories of the stars, using more than a hundred years of knowledge for her amusement.
"Those ones over there are the Seven Sisters," he told her, pointing to a small cluster. "And that’s Ursa Major, or the Great Bear. Most people just call it the big dipper though. Oh, and over there is Draco-the Dragon." He grinned, pointing to their right.
Buffy was impressed by how much he knew, 'sexy AND smart', she thought to herself, smiling.
"But my favorite star isn't really a star at all, luv. Over there’s Venus. Call her the ‘evening star’. I could always find it, even when I was boy. My Mum always told me it's the brightest thing in the sky at twilight. Unfortunately don't see much of it any more, being a vampire and all," he sighed.
Buffy could sense how sad he seemed about that. It was like remembering his past life was too painful for him at times.
Spike hadn't thought of his mother in decades, but he still remembered her like it was yesterday. "Well, that's enough of the astronomy lesson for tonight," he said, wanting to quickly change the subject and ignore the memories that had stirred.
Reaching for the cooler on the edge of the blanket he grabbed the Italian Icee, "I remembered ya said ya liked these."
"Icees? I haven't had them in years. Where did you ever find them?"
"In the 'mart." He shrugged, brushing it off as if it was nothing, but really he’d to gone to every shop in Sunnydale. Finally he’d had to have the ice cream shop special-order them for him.
Spike started feeding her the frozen treat, slowly running it over her lips. "Mmmm," she moaned, making Spike laugh. "What?" she giggled.
He wanted to ask if all cold things turned her on but thought better of it. Instead he told her, "Ya getting it everywhere, pet."
"So, why don't you get it off?" she suggested, seductively running her tongue along her lips.
Spike couldn't resist it. He leaned in and kissed her. He ran his tongue over her already wet lips, licking off the remainder of the Icee, slowly making his way into her mouth.
Her body burned with desire. She wanted to stay like this forever, wanted the world to stop, or just go away. To leave them alone, forever.
The instant he touched her, he could tell that this time it was truly meant to be. This time nothing was going to separate them. No one would come between them, either.
Buffy was consumed with passion; he filled her with love and warmth. Finally she broke the kiss, unable to breathe again. The tingling feeling still lingered, from the top of her head, all the way to her toes.
She managed to barely whisper, "Spike, I love you." Her body yearned for him, all of him. She kissed him more passionately than before.
"I need you," she panted breathlessly, breaking away for just a moment.
His eyes burned with desire; this was all he ever wanted. "I need ya too, Buffy," he whispered. Running his hand though her hair, he quickly removed the clip and tossed it away.
Her hands roamed his body, finding their way to his belt. Fingers moving quickly, she tugged at it. "Spike. I need you. Now."
He couldn't wait any longer, he had to have her. Pulling her closer he lost his balance, causing them to fell back on to the blanket. They crushed the remainder of the food that was left, spilling a glass of wine down the sleeve of his shirt.
Spike paid no mind to it, he was too consumed by the woman in his arms. ‘Shirts can be replaced,’ he thought. All he ever wanted was right there in his arms.
Raining kisses over her neck, he murmured, "God, I love ya," while his hands continued roaming her small frame.
One hand slowly caressed its way down the open back of her dress. "Yer skin feels so amazing, luv. Smooth as silk." As his hand found its way to the swell of her back, she moaned, unable to take it anymore.
Pushing away from him, she pulled herself to her knees pushing his shirt from his shoulders before pulling his t-shirt over his head.
Spike ran his hands up under her long, flowing dress. Running them along her inner thigh, he smiled his hunger when she sighed blissfully. His touch sent ribbons of pure pleasure though her whole body.
She’d forgotten how amazing he made her feel, how so very alive. He could feel her becoming aroused as he slowly made his way to her ever rising heat.
She rained kisses over his pale, soft, smooth chest. Each kiss sent little bolts of energy though his body, fueling his desire and passion even more.
As his hands found their way to her soft silky folds, he pulled away to look at her, slightly cocking his head to the side with a puzzled look on his face.
Buffy shrugged and giggled, "What? I didn't bother. I never seem to get them back anyways."
And he had to chuckle. "Yeah, I guess you're right."
Taking in the new found information he continued to let his hands roam, slowly tracing the outline of where her bikinis should be.
Buffy let out yet another moan of pleasure as the first drops of rain started to fall from the once clear sky.
"We’re going to get wet, luv. Maybe we should move this some place drier?" Spike panted.
"It doesn't matter, I'm already wet," she breathed in his ear.
A sudden clap of thunder startled her awake and she sat up. Realizing it was only a dream she flopped back on her bed, breathless and covered in sweat. As she laid there, remembering how good she’d felt in her dream, there was a knock at the door, "Slayer, are ya ever goin’ to get up? We need to patrol.”
