"Lonely Hearts"

Written by: David Fury Original Air Date: October 12, 1999

Angel enjoys the solitude
Angel is sitting alone in his darkened office at his desk. Doyle enters and turns on the lights. He suggests that Angel didn't get the part about connecting with people and perhaps this, being a Friday night, would be a good time to go out and sample the social aspects of night life.
Doyle suggests going out
Angel isn't interested and wants to know why he should be.
Angel isn't interested
Doyle thinks it would be a nice break from the routine for the three of them to get out and have some fun. He casts a glance toward the outer office.

Angel figures this is just a ploy for Doyle to spend some time with Cordelia, he thinks if Doyle wants to go out with her he should just ask her.
Angel suggests Doyle just ask Cordy out
Doyle is hesitant to ask Cordy out because he doesn't know if she likes him. He suggests Angel put in a good word for him with her. Angel doesn't see how he can do that when he doesn't even know Doyle all that well himself.
Doyle suggests Angel not mention 'part demon'
Cordelia enters the outer office. Doyle suggests quickly to Angel that when he's willing to talk to her about Doyle, he shouldn't mention the part about his being half demon.
Cordy enters
Cordy enters the inner office, informs Angel that his business cards are in, she has some with her. Angel doesn't seem to know what she's talking about. She explains it's a way of spreading the word about what they do, to get business.
Angel tries to figure out the business card
Angel takes one of the cards, examines it. He notes with forced enthusiasm the phone number and its being next to something he couldn't recognize. He guesses it's a butterfly.
Doyle thinks it's obviously a bird
Doyle notes Cordelia's irritated reaction and looks at the card he's holding. He chides Angel for not recognizing that it's not a butterfly, it's a bird! Cordy's irritation mounts that neither of the guys recognizes what she thinks should be obvious. She informs them that it's an angel.
Angel holds the business card
Both guys get it now and feign excitement over the design. Cordelia's not buying it. Doyle claims it's a great design, very clever. Cordelia tells him to "shut up" and hits him in the chest.
Doyle has a vision
Doyle responds with a groan as he doubles over in pain, kicks the desk and falls back. Cordelia is annoyed at what she perceives as his overreaction to her hitting him.
Angel waits for the information
Angel realizes Doyle is having a vision. When Doyle seems to be over the worst of it, Angel asks if he's okay.
Doyle gives the vision info
Doyle responds that he is and tells Angel what he saw in his vision, a bar that he recognizes. No specifics, just the bar. He feels something is going to happen there.

Angel, Doyle and Cordy depart for the club.

SharonKevin
A young woman (Sharon) is sitting in a bar called "D'Oblique", looking unhappy. A guy (Kevin) comes up to her and asks if he may sit next to her, noting the available bar stool. She says it's okay. He strikes up a conversation with her about the nature of places like that, expressing his distaste for them.

KevinSharon
Kevin and Sharon have moved away from the bar and are now seated at a table. They're sharing conversation about how difficult it is to meet people, to find the right person. They're both tired of looking, especially in places like this, but agree it's all part of the game of meeting others and hoping to find that special someone.

Kevin tells Sharon that he thinks maybe he finally has found that special person, her. She is flattered by his attention and thinks it's "nice" that he feels that way about her.

Cordy, Doyle, Angel arrive
Angel, Cordy and Doyle descend the stairs leading into the club. Angel tells the others they should split up and try to find someone who's in trouble. Cordelia hands Angel some of the business cards and each goes their separate way.
Angel questions the bartender
Angel walks up to the bar and asks the bartender if he's seen anything unusual. The bartender apparently thinks Angel is referring to "unusual" in the relationship possibility sense and tells him that it's still early, things pick up later in the evening.
Cordy passes out business cards
Cordelia walks up to a guy and hands him one of the business cards. She tells him to just call that number if he's ever in trouble.

She moves on to a table where a couple are seated, hands the girl a business card and suggests she call if she ever needs anything, assuring her of their discretion in doing business.
Doyle makes a suggestion
She moves to another table but Doyle grabs her and pulls her away before she can start her spiel again. He points out that she needs to be less obvious, they don't want to bring attention to themselves. He tells her that what Angel does could be construed as vigilantism by some and that gets sticky with the law. He suggests she needs to talk to people more casually, be subtle about getting information from them.
Cordelia demonstrates her powers of observation
Cordy bristles at the suggestion, saying that as an actress she's studied human behavior, she doesn't have to talk to them to get their story. To prove it, she points at a guy dancing. She determines he's a "mama's boy with a Peter Pan complex".

She singles out a young blonde woman. She thinks she's a self-involved loser with a "chip on her shoulder."
Cordy figures Sharon must be rich
She turns her powers of observation on Kevin and Sharon who are seen leaving the club together. She tells Doyle that Sharon either has money or her family does. Doyle wants to know what makes her think so. Cordelia responds with the shallow observation that she must have money since she's rather plain and she's leaving with a very good looking guy.

Angel chats a guy up
Angel is standing at the bar, a guy walks away from him, shaking his head. Angel calls after him, trying to reassure him he wasn't hitting on him.
making a connection
A blonde woman seated at the bar asks him if he's okay. Angel doesn't seem to know what she meant by the question. She fumbles for an explanation, obviously finding him attractive and not knowing what to say. She gives up on it and tells him she'll just go back to her drink
Angel introduces himself
Angel introduces himself to her, she responds by telling him her name is Kate. She asks if he comes there often. He tells her this is the first time, he's looking for someone. She says she doesn't want to keep him from it. He clarifies that he's looking for someone to rescue. Kate thinks that's the oddest pickup line she's going to hear and tells him so. Angel tries to assure her it's not a line, but he stumbles over the words. People skills are not his strong suit.
KateAngel admits a lack of people skills
Kate apologizes for her crack about his "line", admitting it was a rather caustic comment. Angel assures her it's okay, acknowledging he's not very good at the talking thing.

Kate admits that she's not very good at it either as evidenced by the current conversation. She responds to his earlier comment, telling him she doesn't need "rescuing" since she doesn't believe in gallant knights anymore and even if she did, she wouldn't look for one in this place. She clearly doesn't have a very high opinion of the club and admits it's hypocritical of her to criticize it, yet show up nearly every night looking to meet someone but she doesn't know how else to meet anybody outside of the job. She asks Angel what he does for a living.
Angel comes up with 'veterinarian'Kate is impressed
He fumbles for an answer, settling on "veterinarian."

Kate thinks that's nice, that a man who likes animals is a man who can be trusted.

Doyle, Cordy
Doyle and Cordy are continuing their earlier conversation. Doyle observes that she thinks she's got everyone figured out. Cordelia admits that she hasn't figured him out yet. She mentions the visions. Doyle explains that they come from The Powers That Be, it's his "gift".
Cordy suggests Doyle exchange the 'gift'
Cordelia thinks it's a "gift" best returned considering it's accompanied by blinding headaches. She also notes that the visions aren't exactly specific.
making a wrong assumption
A guy approaches Cordelia, he's holding one of the business cards. He asks her if she's the one handing them out. Cordy asks him if he's in need of assistance. He replies that he'd like to call her sometime for a date if she wouldn't mind.
Cordy tries to set things straight
Doyle interjects that she does mind. Cordy tells him she'll handle this herself. She tells the guy that it's a business card, they help people who need it.
the guy makes a proposition
The guy continues to ignore Doyle, telling Cordelia he might need some "help" and asks her if she charges by the hour.

Cordy is getting more agitated as it's becoming clear what the guy thinks she's selling. Doyle informs the guy that Cordelia is with him.

Cordy quickly says she's not.

The guy curtly informs Doyle he wasn't speaking to him.

Angel, Kate
Angel and Kate are seated at the bar. Kate is rambling on about how hard it is for her to trust people, especially men. She thinks everybody is pretty much posing as someone else.

Angel asks her what she's looking for.
Kate
She tells him she's looking to connect with someone and asks what he's looking for.

He replies he'll know it when he sees it.
Angel
Kate is hoping maybe she's what he's looking for and asks Angel if he would know it if he saw it. He doesn't understand her question. She tells him to forget it and asks if he'd like to go somewhere else, someplace quieter.
Kate figures she's getting the brush off
Angel tells her he can't, he has to stay at the club.

Kate assumes he's giving her the brush off. He tries to explain that he would go somewhere else but --. She cuts off his attempt at an explanation with a curt "that's okay".

Doyle tries to deal with the situationannoying guy gets some help
Doyle is still trying to deal with the guy coming on to Cordelia. He tells the guy he doesn't want any trouble. Another guy steps up to join them, asking what's going on. Doyle reiterates that he isn't looking for trouble. The first guy tells the new arrival that Cordy is a prostitute and her "pimp" is giving him a hard time.
Cordy doesn't like the conversation
Cordelia has had enough and that remark pushes her over the edge.

Doyle tells her to calm down, he thinks everybody should just calm down. He tells them violence won't solve the problem just as he steps forward and slams the first guy with a head butt.
Doyle starts a fist fight
A fight ensues with Doyle and the two guys. The bartender tries to intervene, but gets punched out. Cordelia is freaking out.
Angel gets involved in the fight
The first guy is wielding a chair, ready to hit Doyle with it. Angel arrives and grabs the chair away from him before he can do anything with it. First guy turns his attention to Angel. Angel blocks his blows with the chair, then hurls the guy into the wall. Both guys then go after Angel, but they don't have much luck.

Finally, Angel and Doyle throw the troublemakers into a heap. The bartender gets between them.
Cordy points out the troublemakers
Cordelia points to the two guys, telling the bartender they were the ones responsible for starting this. The two guys attempt to make excuses but the bartender isn't interested in hearing any of it. He's had trouble with them before and he's had enough. He wants them out of there. He escorts them out of the club.
Angel gets attention
A young woman walks up to Angel and Doyle and asks Angel if he's okay. He responds that he is and asks her the same. She walks over to the bar and tells him that's for him "to find out". Angel pauses briefly, then follows the girl to the bar.
Kate figures she's lost
Kate is looking on, disappointed that her efforts of the evening with Angel have apparently been for naught, her choice has apparently chosen someone else.
Angel smiles at Marcie
Angel is still at the bar with the girl, who's laughing. She tells him her name is Marcie. He makes note of Kate leaving D'Oblique.

Marcie says it's wild, meeting over a fight in a bar. She thinks it's great that they've made a "connection."

Sharon in bed with KevinKevin gives Sharon a hug
Sharon and Kevin are sharing a bed, lying next to each other. She tells him it's late, she should go, she sits up.

He agrees but tells her he'd like to hold her before she leaves. He sits up behind her and wraps his arms around her.

Doyle, Angel, Cordy at the bar
Angel, Cordelia and Doyle are sitting at a table in the nearly empty bar. Angel is doubtful that Doyle's vision was about a bar fight.
Cordy figures everybody needed help
Doyle doesn't think that's what it was about either. Angel asks if either of the others thought that anyone in the bar needed help. Cordy offers that she thinks everybody there did.
Doyle recalls times being easier
Angel comments on the difficulty of socializing. He used to go to pubs when he was young, it wasn't like this. Doyle offers that he used to go to taverns, small towns, everyone knew each other. Cordelia notes it was easier in High School because they had things in common.

The bartender comes to the table and tells them time to leave, he wants to close up. He leaves the table.
Cordy reminds Angel of the curseAngel thanks Cordy for the reminder
Cordelia notes that being single must be especially tough on Angel. He asks her why. She reminds him about the curse being in place now and the risk that one moment of "true happiness" carries with it.

Angel sarcastically expresses his appreciation for her perspective. They leave the club.

Sharon gets upKevin
Sharon is sitting on the edge of the bed as she completes getting dressed and adds some jewelry.

Kevin is laying behind her, bloodied and apparently dead.

Cordy, Angel, Doyle
Cordy is working at the office computer as Doyle peruses newspapers. Doyle isn't sure what he's looking for.
Doyle wonders what he's looking for
Angel directs him to look for any happenings in or around the bar, as he looks at the computer screen from his position standing behind Cordelia.

As Cordy works at the computer, she asks how to spell the name of the bar. Angel spells it out for her.
Cordy asks about the spelling, again
She begins typing it in letter by letter, painfully slowly, then gets confused on the spelling and asks again.
Doyle decides to help out
Doyle's frustration is evident, as he tells her he needs a break from the newspapers and takes the keyboard from Cordelia. He begins quickly typing in the information.
Cordy makes a crack about Doyle's typing skills
Angel wonders how he learned to type like that. Cordy opines that he probably got proficient by downloading pictures of naked women from the Internet.
Doyle gets a hit
Doyle doesn't dispute that and notes almost immediately that he got two hits on his search. He clicks on the first link.
Angel checks out the screen
Angel reads the screen, an article about a 24 year old woman who came up missing after last being seen at D'Oblique. He asks Doyle about the second hit.

Doyle reads that a mutilated body was found in a dumpster, positively identified as that of a 28 year old man who had last been seen at D'Oblique, in the company of a young woman.
Angel plans to return to D'Oblique
Angel notes the connection to the bar is clear. He's sure there are other disappearances that haven't yet been connected. He tells Doyle and Cordelia to use his library to research eviscerating demons that have a preference for young singles.

Cordelia asks where he'll be. He answers he's going back to the bar.

Angel, outside the clubAngel runs into Kate
Angel is walking up to the front of D'Oblique, eyes cast downward, obviously preoccupied. He runs into Kate. He offers an apology for the other night at the bar, she's not interested. He persists.

She finally accepts and offers that he can buy her a drink and they can start over. Angel tells her it might not be a good idea to go into the bar on this particular night. He doesn't think it's safe, but he can't explain why.
Kate is annoyedAngel tells Kate he's going inside
Kate is annoyed with his inability to be forthcoming and tells him so.

Angel tells her again that he doesn't think she should go into the bar. She wants to know where he's going. He answers that he's going inside. She tells him she'll go wherever she pleases and he can "go to hell."

Angel watches her as she walks away from him, into D'Oblique.

Kate takes a seat at the bar
Kate sits down at the bar next to a young woman who is chatting up a young man. The bartender asks Kate if she wants her usual. She indicates she does. He sets the glass on the bar in front of her.
Angel notices Kate
Angel comes in, looks at Kate (whose back is to him) briefly then sits at the bar, a noticeable distance from Kate. Their eyes meet for a moment over the people between them, Kate turns away.
Kate, Sharon
Kate offers a snide comment about people having problems to the young woman next to her. The woman turns around, it's Sharon. She's not 'plain' anymore, she's done herself up right.
Sharon and her date
Sharon doesn't respond to Kate, she turns back to her date to continue their conversation. Her date is talking about the difficulty of meeting people, noting that it's hard to know who to trust. Sharon thinks he could have had his pick of dates. He tells her he was a "geek" in high school who couldn't buy a date.

Kate continues looking at Angel
Kate is looking at Angel, who is still sitting at the bar, nursing a drink.
someone is looking for Kevin
A man comes up to the bar, stands next to Angel. He asks the bartender if he's seen Kevin, he's looking for him since Kevin didn't show up for work and there's no answer at his place.
Angel asks about Kevin
The bartender tells him he hasn't seen him tonight but he thinks he saw him hook up with a girl the previous night.

Angel has been listening to the conversation and asks what girl Kevin was with.

Cordy, Doyle do some research
Doyle and Cordelia are perusing books about demons. They remark on their various traits, to which Cordelia offers that demons are as disgusting as it gets.
Doyle wonders if Cordy thinks all demons are disgusting
Doyle wonders if she really believes that.
Cordy points out the disgusting demon
She points out one of the demons in the book, noting that it wears a wreath of intestines on its head.

Doyle suggests that maybe it depends on the demon, maybe some of them are nice.

Cordy says that hasn't been her experience.

the bartender answers questions
The bartender responds to Angel's question about the girl Kevin was last seen with. He tells Angel her name is Sharon, she's a regular at the bar.
guy is surprised Kevin went with Sharon
The guy who's looking for Kevin is familiar with Sharon and seems surprised that Kevin would have gone with someone who wasn't exactly glamorous. He suggests Kevin must be getting desperate.
Angel asks where to find Sharon
Angel asks where he can find Sharon.
the bartender
The bartender tells him that she's in the bar but not with Kevin. He looks over to where Sharon was sitting next to Kate, but the seat is now empty. He mentions that she was there a bit ago, chatting up some guy.
Angel gets some info
Angel asks if the bartender knows where she lives or what her last name is, anything that can help him locate her. The bartender doesn't know but the guy looking for Kevin does, he tells Angel her last name is Richler. He admits that he asked her out a couple of times.
Angel finds what he's looking for
Angel is thumbing through the phone book, looking for Sharon's address, as Kate watches him from the bar.

Angel finds the name he's looking for, tears out the page in the phone book and leaves.

Sharon with her dateSharon gets close
Sharon and her date are lying in bed, each looking up at the ceiling. Her date is apologizing for things not going well. He suggests it will be better next time.

Sharon assures him it's okay and tells him to turn over. He complies, turning on his side. She snuggles up behind him.

Angel rushes down the street, headed for Sharon's place.

the date gets skewered
Sharon and her date are snuggling. He thinks it's nice, but further observations are cut off as a worm-like thing emerges from Sharon's chest and begins burrowing into her date's back.

The guy screams.

Angel sees the bodySharon's corpse
Angel comes rushing into the apartment, seemingly surprised he was able to get in uninvited. He realizes what this means and begins searching the apartment. He walks over to the bedroom door, which is open, and sees Sharon's bloodied, lifeless body sprawled on the bed.
The burrowing demon works its way in
Angel sees Sharon's date, his back to Angel, the tail end of the worm-like demon disappearing into his back as he pulls on his shirt.
the date turns to face Angel
The date is now aware someone is in the room with him and turns to face Angel. He notes that Angel isn't human. Angel responds that he doesn't appear to be either. They both look toward Sharon's lifeless body.
Angel tries reason
Angel tells him it's time for this to stop. The date replies that it will, but not until he finds the "right one". Angel wants to know what's wrong with the body it's inhabiting now. The date replies that it's fine right now, but he already knows it won't last, it's not the one he can "live in". Angel tells him it will have to be the one he dies in then.
Angel gets game
They begin fighting. The guy seems to be equal to Angel in strength, if not stronger. He punches Angel in the back, sending him to the floor, then slams him head first into the wall. Angel morphs into game face as he gets back up.
Angel gets tossed
The fight continues, each taking and giving repeated punches. The guy then picks Angel up and tosses him through the air. Angel hits the wall and slides to the floor. The guy quickly departs.
Angel faces Kate
Kate comes rushing into the apartment as Angel is getting back up. He turns to face her, his face morphed back to its human form.
Kate identifies herself as a cop
Angel wants to know why Kate is there, as they both look toward Sharon's lifeless body. Kate pulls a gun and aims it at Angel. She also pulls out her police badge and displays it. She begins to Mirandize Angel who interrupts her. He wants to know how she found him.
Kate thinks Angel is the killer
Kate tells him she's been tracking him since the previous night. Angel tries to get her to listen, but she's not interested. Angel continues to try explaining they're both after the same thing. He tells her it will kill again. She thinks he's talking about himself and assures him she will stop him before that happens.
Kate gets out the cuffs
She pulls out her handcuffs and instructs Angel to turn around. He turns, placing his hands against the wall as she cuffs one wrist and pulls his arm down behind him. Angel apologizes for what he's about to do, as he kicks back, knocking Kate down, and runs for the open window.
Angel takes a header out the window
Kate gets up and fires as Angel takes a head first dive out of the window, landing on the hood of a parked car on the street below. He rolls off the car and runs down the street as Kate watches from the apartment window.

The date has been watching the events unfold, perched against the wall on a ledge outside of the apartment building, just below Sharon's window.

Doyle checks out Cordy's apartment
Doyle and Cordy enter her apartment, arms loaded down with books. The apartment is messy, clothes strewn about. Doyle makes a comment about the accommodations, Cordelia isn't amused. She's clearly embarrassed by the quality of her home.
Doyle picks up the bra
Doyle finds a black, lace bra of Cordy's laying on the floor and picks it up, smiling.
Cordy suggests Doyle grow up
Cordy snatches it away from him, suggesting he grow up.

Angel arrives, looking a bit worse for wear as a result of his fight with burrower-demon guy.
Angel waits for an invitation
Cordelia opens the door and looks at Angel. She notes his battered condition and asks if he's okay. As he waits for an invitation to enter the apartment, Doyle reminds Cordelia to invite him in. Cordy issues the invitation.

Angel enters the apartment as Cordelia closes the door behind him.
Doyle asks what Angel discovered
Doyle asks what happened, noting Angel's bruises. He tells them that Kate is a cop who followed him to another corpse. Angel says Kate now thinks that he's the one doing the killing.
Angel is amused by the surroundings
Angel suddenly takes note of the surroundings being definitely un-Cordy like. He smiles, asking Cordelia if she really lives there.
Cordy, annoyed
Cordy lets him know she really lives there and she really doesn't want to have this conversation.

Doyle tells Angel that he and Cordelia made a list of eviscerating demons, they've narrowed it down to a relative few.
Angel tells what he knows
Angel tells them he saw it, it's a burrowing demon. He explains that it rips open its victims as it travels from body to body and may only be able to affect the change after physical intimacy. He directs Doyle and Cordy to research it, find out whatever they can, especially its weaknesses. He tells them he found it to be very strong when he was fighting with it. He thinks it may not be easy to kill.

Angel intends to go back to the bar to look for it. He believes it will return there, looking to make a connection with someone else.

A series of scenes plays out as a montage to Vast's "Touched".

Angel is walking down the street, headed back to Cordelia's place.

Angel arrives at Cordy'sCordy, Doyle
Angel enters Cordelia's apartment. Cordy and Doyle are both asleep on the couch, books piled up around them. They both awaken as Angel shuts the door.

Doyle wants to know if Angel found anything. He tells them he didn't but he feels he can recognize the demon if he sees it in another body then asks if Cordy and Doyle came up with anything.
Cordy fills Angel inAngel gets the info
Cordy fills him in on what they found. The demon is very old, from the beginning of time. It doesn't have many weaknesses, it's strong but it's afraid of fire. The demon is a parasite that moves from body to body, killing the host when it transfers itself.

Angel tells them he'll need help to find it, he's going to call Kate.

Kate
Kate is at her desk at the precinct, she answers her phone. Angel tells her he needs her help to find the killer. She still thinks it's him.
Angel
Angel tells her it's not true, he thinks she knows that too. He asks her for 5 minutes of her time to convince her. He tells her to meet him at D'Oblique at 7:00 o'clock.
Kate considers Angel's offer
Kate is hesitant to agree, still believing Angel is the killer.

Angel tells her to do whatever it takes to make herself feel safe for the meeting with him, just show up. He hangs up.

Kate tells the bartender who she's looking for
Kate is seated at a table in D'Oblique. The bartender refers to her by name and asks if she wants her "usual". Kate flashes her badge. She asks the bartender if he remembers the guy who helped him break up the bar fight.
the bartender agrees
The bartender indicates that he does. Kate tells him to let her know when Angel comes in. The bartender agrees and leaves the table.

A guy approaches Kate's table and sits down. He makes small talk, trying to pick her up. She tells him she's waiting for someone.

The bartender comes over to the table and tells her the guy she's looking for is in the alley.

Kate leaves the table, headed for the alley.

Kate enters with the bartender
The door to the back of the bar opens, Kate emerges along with the bartender. Kate has her gun drawn. She hands the bartender a card and tells him to call the number on it and tell the police to send backup.
Kate gets knocked out
Just as she finishes her sentence, the bartender picks up a wine bottle and bashes her over the head with it. She crumbles in a heap, unconscious.
the demon tries to make a transfer
The bartender pulls up her coat, tears her shirt open then tears his own open. He holds Kate in front of him. The burrower-demon appears from his chest and makes a move toward Kate's back.

Before it can accomplish its transfer, a board smashes into the bartender's head and he's knocked backwards. He drops Kate and the burrower-demon retreats back inside of him.Angel grabs Kate and yells at her to move. He manages to get her out of the way just as the bartender drops a keg on top of them.
Angel in the fight
Angel kicks the guy and punches him in the stomach. The guy runs Angel's face into a fence. Angel rams his head back into the bartender's face, then holding onto the fence for support, raises both legs into the air, wrapping them around the guy's neck. He twists his body and throws the guy to the floor. The guy raises up between Angel's legs, lifts him up, rams him into the wall, then throws him through the door into a storage room.

Angel tries to catch himself by grabbing the door frame, but the bartender hurls Kate into him, knocking them both down the steps of the storage room. The door is slammed shut behind them.

coming undone
The bartender is looking at himself in a bathroom mirror. His face is peeling away where Angel hit him with the board. He tries to push the skin back into place, but it won't stay.

Back in the bar, the bartender walks up behind a young woman, trying to strike up conversation. She turns to look at who's speaking to her, sees how awful he looks and walks away from him.

Angel is throwing himself against the storage room door in what's turning out to be a vain attempt to break it open.

the bartender tries hitting on another womanthe bartender tries one more time
The bartender approaches another young woman sitting at the bar. The flap of skin on his forehead is peeling off again. She is repulsed by his appearance and leaves.

He approaches yet another girl who has the same reaction as the others. She also leaves.

Angel notices the window
Kate and Angel are still locked in the storage room, searching for a way out. Angel looks up at a window, positioned quite high off the floor, thinking that will be a useable route of escape. Kate is doubtful considering how high up it is.
the beam crashed down
Angel pulls a grappling device from his pocket and aims it at a beam next to the window. He fires the release, the device angles up and wraps itself around the beam. He gives the rope a tug, the beam comes crashing to the floor. Angel and Kate exchange a look.

Kate pulls a gun out of her ankle holster and fires at the door lock, breaking it. They run out of the storage room and rush through the club, splitting up.

the bartender scares another girlbartender looking a little ragged
The bartender is out in front of D'Oblique, looking more ragged by the minute. He approaches another girl from behind. He tells her he just wants to hold her. She turns to look at who's speaking and is horrified by the sight that greets her. She runs away from him.

Angel rushes into the alley

Angel and the bartender fight
Angel and the bartender fight, each giving and getting but the bartender seems to be getting the better of Angel. Angel throws him into a wall, he's not fazed by it. He grabs Angel, trying to push his head into the burning trash barrel. Angel wrenches himself out of the bartender's hold and throws the guy back into the alley. He gets right back up and comes at Angel again. The fight continues.

The bartender throws Angel toward the burning barrel. He lands just short of it. The bartender rushes to jump on top of Angel as he lays on the ground. Angel catches him with his foot and sends him flying over his head.
burning bartender heads for AngelKate finishes the job
The bartender hits the burning trash barrel, turning it over and catching himself on fire. He is engulfed in flames, heading toward Angel who is spent, still lying on the ground.

Gunfire is heard as the bartender falls to the ground. Kate has arrived in the alley and dispatched burrower-demon guy.

Kate, Angel
Angel walks up to Kate at the entrance to the alleyway. They are surrounded by police, an ambulance and a fire truck. Paramedics are removing a body bag that's obviously occupied with the remains of the bartender.
Angel
Kate admits to Angel that she searched his place illegally. He wants to know why she's bothering to tell him now. She wants to start fresh with him, no secrets. Angel pulls out one of the business cards and hands it to her. He tells her if he can help her in any way, to call, he'll be around.

Kate is approached by a detective who engages her attention briefly. When she turns back to Angel, he's gone.

Angel tries to convince the others he wants to go out
Angel is pacing in his office, trying to convince Doyle and Cordelia that he's up for going out for some "fun". His demeanor gives him away, however. It's clear he's trying to do what they want him to do in getting out more, but doesn't really want to.
Cordy & Doyle aren't buying
Cordy and Doyle seem to sense this. Cordelia says she'd rather go home. Doyle tells Angel then he can go back to sitting in the dark by himself. Doyle and Cordy start to leave.
Angel, relieved
Angel is clearly relieved they didn't take him up on his offer to go out. He breathes a deep sigh of relief and settles into his chair at his desk. As Doyle and Cordelia leave the office, the lights go out.
