Cordy re-enacts her audition
In the office of Angel Investigations, Cordelia is holding a white trash bag, complaining about the lack of reliability of cheaper brands. She's re-enacting an audition she did, wondering how they could not have hired her.
Doyle offers his support
Doyle tries to assuage her wounded ego by assuring her she was good, and the fact they didn't choose her is their loss.

The phone is ringing but Cordelia takes no notice of it. She continues lamenting losing out at the audition to a girl in a slinky outfit who Cordelia naturally thinks was totally wrong for the part. The phone continues to ring.

Doyle finally asks her if she's going to answer it. Angel wants to know that too.
Cordy lets the machine pick up
Just as Cordy is about to pick up, the answering machine takes the call. Cordelia lets it. The caller is Aura, a friend of Cordy's from Sunnydale. She leaves the message that she was just checking in, wanted to catch Cordelia up on the gossip in Sunnydale.
Angel, annoyed
Angel, looking slightly annoyed, walks away.
Doyle wonders why Cordy didn't take the call
Doyle is puzzled that Cordelia didn't pick up the phone to talk to her friend. She says she's not ready to talk to her yet since she'll want to know all about her career and apartment and Cordy isn't up to spilling the truth of her situation. She'll do it when things pick up for her.
Cordy scoffs at Doyle's offer
Doyle acknowledges he can't help with the career, but if she ever wants to get away from her place for a while, she can give him a call.

Cordelia scoffs at the suggestion, grabs her purse and jacket and heads for the door, yelling a "good-bye" to Angel as she walks out.

Angel, reading at his desk
Angel is seated behind his desk, reading. Doyle enters, sits down and plops his feet up onto the desk. This meets with a disapproving glance from Angel, but he doesn't say anything.
Doyle makes himself comfortable
Doyle is marveling at the wonder that is Cordelia and how hard it is to get to know her. He wants Angel to tell him what he knows about her.

Angel observes that she has no discernible office skills.

Doyle asks who Aura is.
Angel
Angel explains that Aura is one of Cordelia's clique from high school, comprised of girls from wealthy families. Cordelia was the leader of the pack, they decided who was cool, what was "in", that sort of thing. Angel likens them to the Soviet Secret Police.
Doyle
Doyle assumes Cordelia must have been the wealthiest of the group, judging by the way she talks about her life in Sunnydale.

Angel confirms that was pretty much so until her parents lost everything.

Doyle notes that's quite a steep fall.

Angel thinks she's handling it pretty well.

Cordy arrives home
Cordelia unlocks and opens the door to her apartment. The key sticks as she tries to remove it from the lock. She finally manages to wrestle it free and steps inside.

She enters the apartment and turns on the light, which flickers repeatedly before finally staying on. She heads for the sink and turns on the faucet, which spews brownish gunk on her clothes.
roach on the tvCordy calls the landlord
She moves into the living room, sits on the couch, turns on the TV, and sees a cockroach sitting on the screen. She quickly picks up the phone and places a call to her landlord, wanting to know why the exterminator wasn't called as he was supposed to be.

While she's on the phone, more roaches crawl onto the television screen. Cordelia puts her foot down on the floor and steps on another roach. She looks down and sees cockroaches all over the floor. She freaks.

She hangs up the phone and looks up Doyle in her address book. She calls his apartment.

Doyle doesn't notice he has company
Doyle enters his place as the phone is ringing. He turns on the light to find a demon already inside. The demon greets Doyle by name.
Doyle's visitor
Doyle tries to play it cool, explaining to the demon that he's in the wrong place. The demon tells him he owes money. Doyle tries to dance around the issue, but the demon isn't buying it, he wants the money Doyle owes.
Doyle gets his hand slammed in the drawer
Doyle finally agrees and walks over to the dresser, reaching into the top drawer.

The demon shuts the drawer on Doyle's hand, suspecting he was reaching for a gun.
Doyle pulls the drawer out
Doyle assures him he wasn't and invites him to look inside the drawer for himself. He yanks the drawer out and hits the demon with it, then runs out of of the apartment.

The Demon follows.

Angel heads for the door to answer it
Angel is showering in his apartment as classical music plays on the stereo. There's a determined knocking on the door. He exits the bathroom, dripping wet, wrapping a towel around his waist as he heads toward the door.
Cordelia shoves her bags into Angel's arms
He opens it to find Cordelia, who doesn't wait for an invitation to enter. She pushes a couple of bags into Angel's arms as she walks past him into the apartment.
Cordy rants
Cordy turns to face Angel, telling him not to look at her, she thinks she's a mess. As she wraps her rant, she tells Angel to get her other bag, still outside in the hall.
Angel doesn't know what's going on
Angel looks out the open door, into the hallway, and back to Cordelia. He's still grasping the bags in his arms that she shoved into them when she came in. He doesn't know what to make of any of it. He asks what's going on.
Cordy isn't happy with her situation
Cordy tells him her apartment is like a slum, she's humiliated that she lives in that kind of place.

As a still confused Angel wrestles with the bags in his arms, Cordy says she actually got desperate enough to call Doyle, then relays the rest of her problems; the roaches and the brown water coming out of the faucet.

Angel sets the bags down and catches the towel around his waist with both hands as it's slipping.
Angel, confused
Cordelia continues babbling, not letting Angel get a word in edgewise and seemingly oblivious to the fact that he's half naked and dripping wet. Cordelia says she smells, that never happens to her, then directs him to get the bag she left out in the hallway as she exits toward the bathroom to take a shower.

Angel stands unmoving as Cordy makes herself at home in his apartment.

Doyle arrives at the office
Doyle enters the office, sporting a nasty bruise on his hand where the demon had slammed it in the drawer earlier. He notices it's empty, checks his watch then descends via the elevator into Angel's apartment.
Cordy detangles her hair
When he steps off the elevator, he's greeted by the sight of Cordelia, dressed in a bathrobe, sitting at the table. She's running her hands through her wet hair in an effort to detangle it, trying to catch her reflection in a metal vase.
Angel confronts Cordy about the peanut butter
Angel enters the kitchen wearing boxers and an open robe. He informs Cordelia that she got "peanut butter" on his bed.
Cordy denies the peanut butter accusation
Cordelia denies it was her doing, but she offers to go check it out anyway. She exits for the bedroom.

Doyle has jumped to the conclusion that Angel and Cordelia slept together and he wants to know how Angel could do that, knowing that he [Doyle] was interested in her.
Angel corrects Doyle
Angel corrects his misinterpretation of the situation, telling him Cordelia stayed over because she had some kind of problem with her apartment. He lets Doyle know that Cordelia slept in the bedroom, he slept on the couch.
Cordy doesn't accept blame for the peanut butter
Cordy reenters from the bedroom, now dressed. She tells Angel it was him who must have gotten peanut butter on the bed.

Angel, looking slightly annoyed, reminds her that he doesn't eat. Frustrated, he heads for the bedroom as Cordelia sits down at the table.
Cordy wishes there were mirrors
As Cordy brushes her hair, she laments the fact that there are no mirrors in the apartment.

Doyle asks her if anyone has called recently, anyone wanting to know about him or asking where he lives.

Cordy mentions his cousin called the day before and wants to know if he found Doyle.
Doyle would like some warning
Doyle tells her that he did, but he'd appreciate it if she'd given him some warning, he'd like a chance to clean up his place before company showed up.

Cordelia, feeling unappreciated, tells him maybe next time she won't even bother.

Doyle wonders why she had to answer that call when she left her friend Aura to talk to the answering machine.
Angel asks Doyle about his hand
Cordelia sarcastically suggests that he make a list of the people he doesn't want to talk to.

Angel comes back in and notices the bruise on Doyle's hand. He inquires about the cause.

Doyle claims he got it while playing badminton.
Angel finds a wet towel on his chairOops ...
Angel removes a wet towel from his leather chair and wants to know why it's there.

Cordy gives him an "oops" kind of smile in response.

Angel resignedly drops the towel and leaves the room.

Doyle finds Cordy ripping up the flooringCordy gets caught
Doyle notices Cordelia in the process of cutting up the linoleum on Angel's floor. He wants to now what she's doing.

She says she was looking for hardwood underneath, she doesn't know how long she's going to be staying and is looking to make things more her.

Doyle notices several trophies on the mantel. Cordy tells him those pretty much sum up her life before coming to LA.
Angel gives Doyle a message
Angel comes downstairs, now dressed, looking for Doyle. Angel says someone is there who wants to see him.
Angel is waiting
Doyle acknowledges it, Angel goes back up the stairs. Once he's out of sight, Doyle makes a beeline for the back door.

Doyle exits another door where he's met by Angel, who's already there waiting for him. Doyle isn't happy at being tricked. Angel asks what's going on.

Angel, Doyle, talk it out
Doyle explains to Angel that he's not sure exactly who the demon he encountered at his apartment was working for. He says it's a matter of owing people, people owe him, everybody gets thrown into the mix and it all gets a bit confusing. It usually works out but this time he's got trouble. Doyle thinks a diplomatic approach may be called for and suggests Angel may be the one to handle it since he's better at that sort of thing.

Angel tells him he has priorities, and right now his number one priority is something more important than Doyle's problem.

Doyle can't imagine it's a bigger problem than the collection demon after him.
Angel has a problem
Angel assures him it is and suggests if Doyle assists him with his problem, perhaps he can return the favor.
Doyle isn't sure about getting involved
Doyle wants to know exactly what Angel's problem is before committing to anything, he's not keen on getting involved in "vampire business".
Cordy looking for glue
Cordy enters, clearing her throat, wondering if Angel has any linoleum glue, just in case the flooring started to curl up everywhere.

Angel responds that he'll be there shortly. Cordy departs.

Angel tells Doyle to get Cordelia an apartment and he'll deal with the collection demon.

Cordy, Doyle, apartment hunting
Cordelia is carrying a folded newspaper as she and Doyle follow a middle-aged, cigar smoking guy, headed down a hallway to look at an apartment.

Doyle tells her that she should just let him call his "guy".
Cordy suggests they look inside
Cordy isn't interested in any referrals from friends of Doyle's, she imagines it wouldn't exactly be up town.

He notes it's tough to imagine anything worse than where they are.
Cordy figures they'll have better luck
She doesn't think it's fair to judge from the hallway.

They open the door to the apartment which is very small and rundown. Cordy is sure that they'll have better luck with the next one.

the public bathroomyoung guy showing the apartment
Cordelia and Doyle are being led down some steps by a young guy, who pauses at the base of the stairs to pull aside a curtain to reveal a rather public bathroom setup. He tells Cordy and Doyle that this is a community where everything is shared, including chores and maintenance. He continues, saying barriers aren't allowed, that being the first rule of the "great leader". He tells Cordelia she is welcome at meetings every morning at 5:00 a.m. if she'd like to come.
Cordy doesn't think this is for her
She tells him that's too early in the morning for her to be up.

He assures her the chanting that begins at 4:00 a.m. will insure she's awake early.

Cordy with the landlord
Cordelia is standing in the doorway of yet another apartment, surveying the place. She is enduring the lascivious gaze of the landlord, a tall, middle aged, heavy set, sleazy looking sort.
Cordy takes Doyle up on his offer
The guy ascertains that Cordelia is single and will be living alone. He assures her that she can take comfort in the fact that he's right across the hall, the only one besides herself who has a key to get in.

Cordelia isn't particularly comforted by that fact and turns to Doyle, preferring to take him up on his earlier offer to call his "guy."

Angel is looking around inside Doyle's apartment when he is grabbed by the collection demon who had confronted Doyle earlier.

Cordy is impressed
A woman shows Cordelia and Doyle into a beautiful, spacious apartment.
the apartment
Cordy is practically speechless. She deems it the perfect place as she takes a brief tour of the inside. She wants to know why it's vacant, fearing there must be something wrong that isn't obvious.

The woman showing the apartment assures her there's nothing wrong with it, the previous tenant had recently broken their lease. She doesn't know how Cordelia knew about the vacancy so quickly.
Cordy gives Doyle an appreciative glance
Cordy exchanges a quick glance with Doyle.

The woman tells Cordelia the apartment is rent controlled, a very good deal, and also comes furnished. She wants to know if Cordy wants it.

Cordelia is still too excited to form the words.

Doyle answers for her, telling the woman she'll take it.
Cordy decides to take out a wallCordy offers thanks
Cordelia decides to tear out one wall, to make it even more 'perfect'. She enthusiastically thanks Doyle for his help and the referral from his "guy".

Doyle acknowledges her gratitude telling her it was a good day. As he's taken care of Angel's problem, he figures Angel is taking care of his.
A face in the wall
Cordelia is in a hurry to get her things and move in straight away.

As they leave the apartment, the shape of a human face appears, pressing outward from inside the wall.

the demon momentarily has the advantage
Back at Doyle's apartment, the collection demon throws Angel against the wall. Angel turns, grabs him and shoves him face first into the wall in response.
Angel wants some answers
Angel, now in game face, introduces himself and wants to know the demon's name. The demon isn't interested in telling. Angel smashes his face into the wall again. The demon still isn't forthcoming with his name. Once again, Angel rams the demon's face into the wall. This time he decides to answer the question, he says his name is "Griff".
Griff decides to talk
Angel wants to know who Griff works for. Griff responds that he doesn't have the name. Angel slams him to the floor. Griff insists he doesn't know who hired him, he doesn't have a name, he gets his orders indirectly.
Angel, angry
Angel wants Griff to send the guy a message. As he morphs back into his human face, he lets Griff up off of the floor. He asks if the demon was sent to collect for Doyle.
Griff admits the deal
Griff responds that was the plan, at first, but since Doyle didn't pay up the plan is now to kill him as a lesson to others who owe.

Angel points out that if Doyle is dead, he can't pay up and whoever he owes will never see his money. Angel assures Griff he can, and will, get Doyle to pay his debt.

Griff is curious why a vampire is getting involved in the business of a demon half-breed.
Angel assures Griff he'll lose
Angel tells him it's a good offer, he should take it because if not, it will only result in more fighting and Angel assures Griff, he will lose.

Griff agrees to the deal, if Doyle pays up he'll be left alone.

things happen while Cordy sleepsCordy awakens
Cordelia is sleeping in her new apartment. The radio turns itself on, playing "You only hurt the ones you love .." Dresser drawers begin opening and closing as the clothing within moves seemingly on its own. The shadow of a human figure falls over Cordelia while a disembodied female voice demands to know what Cordelia is doing there and warns her that she shouldn't be.

Cordelia wakes up as the dresser drawers slam shut.

Doyle isn't happy with the situation
Doyle is pacing in Angel's apartment, not happy that he still has to pay the debt he owes, he doesn't have the money.
Angel
Angel informs him the demon wasn't looking for money, he wanted Doyle's blood this time.

Doyle thanks Angel for likely saving his life.

Angel wonders why Doyle lives like he does.
Doyle sees nothing wrong with his life
Doyle's rather flippant response is why shouldn't he? He doesn't see anything wrong with it. Angel doesn't say anything. Doyle admits that it's a life that keeps him from expecting too much. He thinks Angel should understand that.
Angel understands the situation
Angel admits he does, but that he really didn't have a choice in his situation, Doyle does. He wonders what has happened that has caused Doyle to make the choices he has.

Doyle suggests he not worry about it and changes the subject to Cordelia and her new apartment, telling Angel how much she loves the place.

Cordelia, afraidthe water boils
Cordelia is sitting up in her bed, obviously frightened. She reaches out and turns the radio off then tries to turn the lamp on, but it won't work. A glass of water on her night stand begins to boil. Her bed starts to float off of the floor.

Cordelia tells the unseen troublemaker that she's from Sunnydale, she's not afraid. She keeps repeating that she's not afraid, trying to convince herself, but she's not having much luck.

Cordelia, still coweringCordy reacts to the bed hitting the floor
The next morning, Cordelia's bed is still floating above the floor. She's still sitting up in bed, frightened, tightly clutching a pillow.

The bed suddenly drops to the floor.
a ghostly reflection
Cordelia is up and dressed, viewing herself in a mirror. She tells herself everything is fine. A vision of a withered old woman appears in the mirror, but Cordelia doesn't see it.
Cordy jumps away from the curtain cord
Cordy enters the living room and moves a chair away from the wall. The chair slides itself back to where it was. She pulls it out again, and again the chair pulls itself back into its previous position, this time with such force, one of the legs breaks. She gives up on moving the chair. A curtain cord wraps itself around her arm. She screams and moves away from it.
Cordy taunts the entity
Cordy belittles the unseen entity and is met with a blast of cold air. Packing material from open boxes begins flying through the air. She's not impressed and tells it so. There's a knock at the door, startling her.

Angel's voice calls her name from outside the door. Cordy looks at the door, but makes no move to answer it. Angel calls to her again, she reluctantly opens the door to find Angel and Doyle on the other side.
Doyle, Angel pay a visit
Angel offers her small, potted cactus as a housewarming gift. She accepts it with thanks. Doyle tries to enter but is stopped by Cordy who tells them it would be better if they'd give her a couple of days to get things settled in the way she wants them.
Angel lags outside
Doyle assures her the place looks fine as he pushes past her into the apartment. Angel remains outside for a moment. Cordelia remembers the vampire's need for an invitation but before she can extend one, Angel comes into the apartment. Cordy wants to know how he got in before she could invite him.

Angel reminds her she told him when she got a place, he was invited any time. Cordy wishes the rules were a little more clear.
Doyle closes the drapes
She yells at Doyle to stop as he tugs on the curtain cord. Doyle tells her he's just closing the curtains to keep the sun out so Angel doesn't burst into flames.
Cordy tries to get rid of the guys
Angel compliments the apartment and asks for a tour. Cordy, clearly in a hurry to get the guys out of the place as soon as possible, points out and identifies the rooms, tells them she's going to knock out a wall and thanks them for the plant.
Cordy catches the scissors
A pair of scissors sails through the air behind Angel. Cordy catches them before anyone else sees them. She sets the plant down on a table and opens the drawer, dropping the scissors into it. The shape of a human face appears in the top of the table. Cordelia quickly slams the drawer shut.
Angel catches the trophy
Cordelia invites Doyle and Angel to go get lunch at a place down the street. As she's talking one of her high school trophies flies toward Doyle's neck and is intercepted by Angel. Cordy brushes it off by telling them it happens all the time, she thinks the mantle is uneven.
Doyle points out the trophy attacked him
Doyle notes that it didn't just slide off the mantle, it charged him. Angel scans the apartment and asks Cordelia what's happening.

Suddenly, the word "DIE" materializes on the wall, written in what looks like blood.

Doyle is shaken. Angel tells Cordy it's time to go. She doesn't want to give up the apartment. Angel tells her it's haunted. She thinks it's perfect, she says she "needs" this place. She doesn't want to be run out of it.
Angel tries to convince Cordy it's time to go
Angel is leading her out of the apartment, telling her it's just a place. Doyle suggests perhaps trying an exorcism. Cordy asks Angel if they can try that. He agrees they can but for now they need to leave. They'll discuss it further at the office.
Cordy takes a parting shot
Cordelia agrees, but before leaving tells the entity she's not giving up the place, she'll die before leaving that apartment.

After the three of them leave a female voice responds to Cordy's parting comment that it will be happy to oblige her.

Doyle works on the computer
Back at Angel's office, Doyle is working on the computer, disseminating what he's come up with regarding Cordelia's building; construction records, inspections, etc. Angel reminds him they need to find out what they can about the people who lived there.
Cordy
Cordelia adds they especially need to know about the people who died there.
Angel tells Cordy it's only a place
Angel reminds her that it really is just a place, nothing more than that. Cordelia says it's more than that to her and that if she loses it, she feels it will mean she's still being punished.

Angel asks her what she thinks she's being punished for.
Cordy thinks she's being punished
Cordelia thinks it's about everything; the way she was in high school, the way she treated people and then she lost everything and had to pay for it. But she sees the apartment as her way back to the life she once knew, a sign that things are finally looking up for her.
Doyle finds info
Doyle interrupts, telling them he's found something. The first person who ever lived in the apartment, "Maude Pearson", died there.

Angel asks how he found that information. Doyle tells him he looked up the name over the entrance of the place "Pearson Arms". That led him to check obituaries for "Pearson" and that led him to the info. Doyle goes onto relate the rest of what he found out about Maude, that she had built the place, taken a unit in the building and died of a coronary in Cordelia's apartment in 1946.
checking the information
Cordelia is sure that's the woman haunting her apartment. Angel isn't so sure since it wasn't a violent death which is usually the catalyst for hauntings.

Cordy remains steadfast, she's certain Maude is her ghost. She thinks now that they've identified the ghost, it will be a simple matter to do the exorcism and get her to move on.
Angel notes the difficulty of the spell
Angel notes it's a difficult spell, he doesn't know if he can find all the ingredients they need for it.
Doyle makes an offer
Doyle offers he has a friend who does this kind of thing all the time, he's sure he can get what he needs from the guy.

Angel tells him to get on it. Doyle leaves.

Angel tells Cordy he'll try digging up more information on exactly what happened with Maude Pearson. He's going to ask Kate if she has anything on it. He instructs Cordelia to wait at the office.

Cordy takes a call
The phone rings at the office of Angel Investigations. The answering machine picks up. A message, in Angel's voice, asks Cordy to pick up if she's there.

Cordelia grabs the phone and asks if he has anything. Angel's voice tells her to meet him at the apartment and they'll determine the best way to handle things. Cordelia agrees, hangs up and leaves for the apartment.

Cordy arrives home
Cordy enters her empty, darkened apartment. She hears Angel's voice, telling her he's in the bedroom.
Maude
Cordelia enters the bedroom, seeing that Angel isn't there. She turns and is startled by the apparition of Maude Pearson. Maude speaks to her in Angel's voice, glad Cordy got the message to come to the apartment.
Cordelia faces off with Maude
Cordelia runs for the apartment door and frantically tries to get out but it won't open. She is suddenly flung backward across the room, into the wall.

As she pulls herself up Maude taunts her in her own voice, telling Cordy she just doesn't fit in. She tells Cordy she should have left her son alone.

Kate, Angel
Kate is looking at her computer screen, telling Angel she couldn't come up with much.

Angel says it's okay, even knowing what didn't happen helps.

An officer comes in and hands Kate a folder. She opens it, surprised the department still had such old records on file.
Kate reads from the file
Kate reads from the folder. She tells Angel the death was ruled by the medical examiner to be natural causes but the investigating officer had his suspicions. He notes in his report there were problems between Maude and her son, "Dennis", who shared the apartment with her. Seems they had frequent arguments over Dennis' girlfriend, his mother didn't like her. Kate goes on to note that Dennis disappeared the same day Maude died, as did his girlfriend.
Angel thinks Dennis is responsible
Angel thinks it sounds like Dennis killed his mother and got away with it. He wants to know if there have been any deaths at the apartment since then. Kate tells him no.
Kate finds the suicide info
Angel looks over her shoulder at the computer screen and tells her to check for suicides. She gives him a quizzical look. He tells her there are killers that do that, make murder look like suicide.

Kate returns to her computer and informs him there have indeed been suicides in the apartment, three women in the years since Maude's death in 1946. She finds that notably odd.

Angel leaves to make a call.

Angel calls the office
Angel calls the office phone from a pay phone at the precinct.
Doyle picks up
As the phone rings, Doyle enters the office. He picks up, Angel tells him to put Cordelia on the line.

Doyle tells him she's not in the office, but there's a message on the machine. He presses the 'play' button and both he and Angel hear Angel's voice telling Cordelia to meet him at the apartment.

Angel tells Doyle he never made that call.

Cordy faces up to Maude
Cordelia is telling Maude she doesn't know who she's talking to, but it's not her. She's not who Maude thinks she is.
Maude continues taunting Cordy
Maude tells her she's not good enough for her son, that she will never have this place as her own.

Cordy responds she has friends, they'll be coming for her.

Maude taunts her, telling her that she has no friends, nobody cares about her.

Doyle, Angel head for Cordy's
Angel and Doyle are in Angel's car, on their way to Cordelia's. Angel tells Doyle he was right about the ghost, it's that of an old woman who was killed by her son.
exorcism supplies
Doyle notes the circumstances being murder and not natural causes as he checks the exorcism supplies piled in a box in the back seat.

Angel thinks she's been killing people because she can't rest until the truth of her murder is revealed.

Cordy pleads
A distraught Cordelia tells Maude she will leave the apartment.
Maude isn't interested in a deal
Maude isn't interested in listening and torments Cordy as the light fixture overhead comes crashing to the floor behind her.
Cordy gets strung up
Maude tells her she's worthless, she's unkind, not very bright and a user. As she's railing against her, a cable works out of the crashed light fixture and wraps itself around Cordelia's neck, working itself back up into the ceiling and raising Cordelia off the floor by her neck.

Maude tells her she's nobody and no one would care if she were dead.

Cordelia is struggling with the cord, trying to keep it from choking her.
Maude doesn't give up
Maude continues her taunts, pointing out that Cordy is alone, nobody is there because nobody cares about her, people wanted her to fail.

Cordelia loses consciousness as Maude disappears.
Cordy gets her bearings
Angel and Doyle rush through the door. Angel grabs Cordelia, taking the weight off of the noose around her neck while Doyle works it loose and off of her. Angel puts her on the floor, her back against the sofa, as she regains consciousness.
Cordy, hysterical
Cordelia is nearly hysterical, telling them that Maude is doing it all, she'll be back, she's stronger than they are.

Angel tells her Maude can be stopped, they can stop her.

Cordelia sobs that they can't.
Angel asks if Maude made a connection
Angel tells her that Maude has made a connection with her, he wants to know if she thinks Cordy is someone connected with her murder.

Cordelia answers that Maude thinks she's trying to take her son away from her.
Angel tells Cordy she can stop Maude
Angel says that's good, he thinks her son is the one who murdered her. He tells Cordelia she has a role in Maude's delusion and that means Cordy has power. She is the one who can stop her.

Angel tells Doyle to make the binding circle while he looks up the spell.
Doyle begs Cordy to get up
Doyle lays down the circle while Angel flips through an old book, looking for the spell. Things begin flying around the room.

Doyle warns Angel that Maude knows what they're up to. Angel tells Doyle to get Cordelia up, they need her. Doyle implores Cordelia to get up but she's too afraid.
Angel begins the spell
The swirl of debris flying around the room intensifies as Angel begins reading from a book, saying the spell in English, then continuing in Latin.

Cordelia is still cowering on the floor. Angel grabs her shoulders and yells above the din of the flying debris to her, telling her that the ghost has contacted her, they need her to finish this.
Maude continues to unnerve Cordy
Maude whispers to Cordelia that nobody cares about her. Everyone wants her to fail. She says they know that Cordy is a "whore".

Angel hands the book off to Doyle, his gaze fixed on Cordelia. He tells Doyle to continue the spell. Doyle looks at the book, he's not keen on Latin. Angel tells him how to sound out the words.

Maude is still whispering harsh words to Cordy. Angel grabs Cordelia and shakes her telling her that she knows what to do, she can stop it, now she needs to do it.
Cordy can't face the problem
Cordelia shoves him away, sobbing that she can't do it.

Angel continues trying to get Cordelia on her feet. He challenges her to stop cowering like a weakling, to get off her butt and stand up to Maude.

Cordelia continues to sob that she can't do it.
Angel demands Cordy get up
Angel demands that she "do it now!"

Cordelia is still a cowering mess, still insisting she can't do it.
Angel realizes it's getting too dangerous
Angel tells Doyle it's not going to work. Doyle stops his chanting and notes the level of intensity is increasing as things fill the air, swirling around them, crashing into the walls.

Angel tells Doyle it's not safe, they have to get Cordelia out of the apartment. They pull Cordy to her feet and head for the door.
Griff and companyDoyle, Cordy, Angel face trouble
The door opens and the three are met by Griff and two other henchmen. They are all armed, guns aimed at Cordy, Angel and Doyle.

Griff tells them nobody is leaving.

The three henchmen move into the apartment. One looks around, noticing the place is in shambles and wonders what's happening.
Angel realizes the doublecross
Angel tells Griff he thought they had a deal. Griff says he lied.
Maude doesn't like the intrusion
Maude appears, yelling at the new arrivals to get out of the apartment. One of the henchman wonders who's yelling. Griff tells him to ignore it, it's "just a ghost". Maude again demands that they leave the apartment.

Maude isn't listening
Maude isn't interested in letting her go. She's upset Cordelia's friends made a shambles of "her" apartment. She tells Cordelia it's too late, she knew she was trouble from the start. She's surprised her son didn't know it too.

Cordelia tells her she's sorry as she sinks to the floor. Maude reckons she should be and calls her a "stupid little bitch."
finding her inner Cordy

There is a bright flash of light as Maude is hurled through the wall.

Cordy returns to the living room
Angel finishes Griff off, the stuff that's been flying through the air stops and falls to the ground. Cordelia returns to the living room from the bedroom.

Doyle is impressed that Cordelia apparently managed to best Maude. He wonders how she did it. Cordelia tells him that she made her angry. Angel thinks maybe Cordelia found Maude's "center".

Cordy on the phone
Cordelia is comfortable on the couch in her apartment, chatting on the phone. She's telling Aura she's sorry she missed her calls, it's the fault of the office girl. She tells her friend things are going great for her; incredible apartment, great view, lots of celebrities. She says she has a roommate, but he's not seen much. Her can of soda slides seemingly by itself across the coffee table.

Cordelia puts her hand over the receiver and tells "Phantom Dennis" to put the soda back. The can slides back into place. She continues her conversation with Aura, telling her everything is going great for her.
