the Host
At the karaoke bar, Angel has just finished singing a couple of songs. The Host is surprised to get two songs out of Angel in one night.

Angel was going for a medley but he couldn't think of a third song to add.

The Host says he's never seen Angel so open before, he wants him to tell him if he's been practicing but he bets it hasn't been in front of a mirror.
Angel admits to practicing
Angel admits he's been practicing a little bit, in the shower.

The Host notes it shows. He says Angel put his heart into his singing, he's wondering what will happen to it now.
the Host offers advice
Angel isn't sure what he's talking about.

He tells Angel he's come to a bend in his personal road and what happens from there is up to him.
Angel greets Darla
Angel leaves the stage and walks through the crowd to the bar where Darla is standing, dressed to kill in a slinky red number. Angel greets Darla with an embrace. He was afraid she wouldn't come.

She says she's been there all along, waiting for him. She wonders if he's going to ask her to dance.
Angel, Darla share a dance
Angel shyly leads her onto the now empty dance floor as the Host is singing. They dance a slow dance, holding each other closely. Angel can't believe she's there with him, considering he killed her.

She wonders if he's told anyone about their "dates".

He hasn't, he wants her to himself. He says it's strange.

Darla offers it's strange in a good way.
Angel, Darla heat it upAngel, disturbed
Angel agrees. They kiss as the Host stops singing and suggests maybe the vamps should get a room as things are heating up between them on the dance floor and the kissing becomes more intense.

Cut to Angel in his bed sleeping with a smile on his face. He wakes up and his expression changes to one that's more disturbed than happy.

Cordy does some dusting
Cordelia is in the lobby of the hotel, complaining about having too much to dust. She doesn't think the place will ever get clean. She's ready to give up.
Wes suggests moving the business back to Cordy's
Wes is standing behind the desk and suggests they could move the business back to her apartment.

She stops complaining and goes back to dusting.

Gunn comes in, he wants to know where Angel is.

Cordy tells him he's asleep.
Gunn reckons it's time for Angel to get up
Gunn notes it's 3:30 in the afternoon, he's been up since dawn.

Cordy mentions to Wes as an aside that Gunn seems to be missing the whole 'vampire' thing.

Gunn notes he had an appointment with Angel at 4:00.

Wes wasn't aware of it.
Gunn fills Wes in
Gunn abruptly fills him in on the deal. A demon named Deevak has set up operations in Gunn's neighborhood, a couple of Gunn's crew have been hurt, Angel was supposed to back him up in meeting with an informant downtown who is supposed to give Gunn the info to find Deevak. He is impatient and wants someone to wake Angel up.
Cordy recommends letting Angel get up on his own
Cordy says it's best to let sleeping vampires lie, he'll get up when he's ready. She offers her and Wesley's help.

Gunn needs more than that, he doesn't have much faith in Wes and Cordy as backup.
Nabbit arrives
David Nabbit comes in the front door brandishing a sword, wearing his purple cape. He's ready to go demon hunting.

Cordy reminds him they paged him a couple of days ago.
Nabbit points the sword at Gunn
He tells her he was out of the country, in Kuala Lumpur on business. He puts the sword in Gunn's face and demands to know who he is.

Gunn slaps the sword aside and asks Wes who Nabbit is.

Wes introduces them.

Gunn barely acknowledges Nabbit, waving his hand dismissively when Wesley introduces them, without looking at him.
Nabbit asks about Angel
Nabbit asks Cordelia where Angel is, she tells him Angel is still asleep. Nabbit points out the same thing Gunn did, it's 3:30 in the afternoon. Nabbit has been up since dawn, just like Gunn.
Angel comes downstairs
Angel comes down the stairs, Nabbit is ready to offer whatever demon fighting assistance Angel needs.

Angel tells him he needs financial advice.

Nabbit is a bit let down, but always willing to help.

Angel tells him they're making the hotel their new office, leasing for 6 months with an option to buy.
Nabbit wonders how much of a down payment
Nabbit wonders how much money they're willing to put down.
Angel's blank response
Angel gives him a blank look.

Cordy says nothing would be good.

Nabbit says that's easy enough. He offers some financing options they could pursue; look into seller financing, take over the owners payments and avoid bank involvement altogether, make a bid for a preservation grant by offering to restore the original decor and apply to the state and federal governments for a tax break and a loan at a low interest rate or they could "apply for an FHA and get a PMI" instead of a down payment
Cordy likes the financial talk
Cordy is entranced by the financial talk. She wonders if anybody else is feeling a little warm then asks Nabbit to repeat the financial lingo again.

Nabbit nervously offers to have his people get the numbers together and he'll get them to Angel.
Nabbit departs
Angel offers his thanks as Nabbit heads for the door. He stops before leaving and gushes about how great demon fighting is then leaves.

Gunn wants to leave now as Angel pours himself some coffee.
Gunn, irritated
Angel tells him they have time.

Gunn reminds him whenever Angel has asked him for a favor, Gunn has been there but now that he needs a favor, Angel seems more interested in sleeping. He wonders what's up.
Angel hands Cordy the keys
Angel doesn't answer. He hands Cordelia his car keys and tells her she'll be driving. He directs Wesley to get some payoff money from the cash box.
Gunn doesn't want Wes and Cordy along
Gunn doesn't want Wes and Cordy along, he thinks they'll slow things up.

Angel reckons if they find Deevak, they'll need everybody. He directs Cordelia to pick him up in the shade out back and heads out.

Gunn figures they're late
Angel and the gang arrive in a parking garage. They get out of the car and notice It appears to be empty. Gunn thinks they're late and the guy took off.
Jameel shows himself
Angel notices movement and directs their attention to the informant, Jameel, who comes out from behind a van. They approach each other cautiously.

Angel throws the envelope with the money in it to the informant but he doesn't want it.
Gunn wants the info
Gunn picks the envelope up off of the ground. He doesn't care if Jameel takes the money or not but he's determined that he is going to tell him what he wants to know.

Jameel isn't interested, he's afraid of Deevak, the demon will know if he gives them any info. He thinks it's possible he was followed to the garage and they're being watched.
Gunn hands Angel the cash
Gunn looks around, he doesn't see anybody and he's losing patience with Jameel. He hands the envelope of cash back to Angel.

Jameel tells him he's more afraid of Deevak then he is of Gunn.
Angel stops Gunn
Gunn tries to persuade him by knocking him to the ground and kicking him. He wonders if Jameel is afraid of him now. He starts to hit him again when Angel stops him by grabbing his arm in mid swing. Gunn tells Angel it's not his case.

Angel responds that it's just been made his case.
Angel fights with the vamp
A bunch of vamps enter the garage. The informant runs while fight ensues.

Angel is having a difficult time with the vamp he's fighting.

recovering from the fight
After the fight, Angel and the others are sitting up against the car, surrounded by stakes and piles of dust, complaining about various injuries.

Cordy complains about the grease on her outfit and the cost of the dry cleaning. The others look at her in response. She admits it's not like physical injuries but the cleaning bill is a hardship.
Wes thinks it's best they haven't found Deevak
Gunn is disappointed they still haven't found Deevak.

Wes points out that's probably not a bad thing considering they aren't in any shape at the moment to take on a strong demon.

Gunn takes off to find the informant to make him talk.
Wes asks if Angel is okay
Wes asks if Angel is okay, he's never seen him have so much trouble with vampires before.

Angel dismisses his weakness as the product of an off day.

Angel
Cordy drives Angel's car up to the back of the hotel. He tells her to bring the car back tomorrow.
Cordy wonders if Angel is okay
Cordy wonders if he's okay.

He says he's fine, just needs some sleep.

Cordelia notes that's all he seems to be doing lately.

Cordy notices a chill
At her apartment, Cordy comes out of the kitchen carrying a book and a cup of tea. She notices the apartment is cold. She wonders if Phantom Dennis has turned the heat down again. The dial on the thermostat moves up.
Cordy curls up to read a book
Cordy thanks him and wonders why ghosts have such a fondness for cold as she sits her tea on the end table and sits in the chair, ready to read her book.
Dennis floats Cordy the phone
She is suddenly hit with a vision which shows Gunn fighting a battle with an ax.

As she writhes in pain on the floor, Cordelia yells for Dennis to give her the phone.

The cordless handset comes off the base and floats into her hand.

Angel sleepsAngel dreams
As Angel sleeps, his cell phone rings on the night stand next to the bed. In his dream, he and Darla are in beachwear, reclining in the moonlight. He asks her what the ringing is, she tells him to ignore it.

She takes a piece of ice out of her drink and starts running it slowly down his chest.
Angel wonders why Darla is so good to himDarla, Angel kiss
He asks why she's so good to him after what he's done.

She says it's because they are one.

The phone stops ringing as Angel and Darla kiss.

Cordy leaves a messageCordy is sure she's going to get herself killed
Cordy is talking to Wesley's answering machine. She says she's had a vision, Gunn is in trouble, she's on her way over to his place and when he gets the message she wants him to get Angel and meet her at Gunn's.

She grabs a bag and takes a small ax from her closet, pauses briefly telling herself she's surely going to die and heads out the door.

Cordy searches for Gunn
Cordy arrives in Angel's car at the vacant building being used as a headquarters by Gunn and his crew.
Cordy looks through the window
She enters the building, ax at the ready, and calls for Gunn. She hears a clattering sound which she follows to the laundrey room. She peers through a small window in the closed door sees Gunn sparring with another guy, both using long poles.
Cordy to the 'rescue'
She rushes in and hits the guy on the head with the broad side of her ax.

Gunn asks her what she's doing.
Gunn, not impressed
She says she was saving him from a killer demon.

Gunn's crew is sitting behind her and starts laughing as Cordy realizes he wasn't in danger and she just made a fool of herself.

Angel, dreaming
Angel is still sleeping. In his dream, he approaches Darla from behind and embraces her in the Hyperion courtyard. He wants to know what she's thinking. The sound of pounding can be heard in the background.

Darla tells him she was thinking about the two of them.

Angel notes she seems sad.

Darla says she has to leave.
Angel wants to go with Darla
Angel wants to go with her.

Darla says he can't, she's in danger.

He wants to protect her. The pounding continues, getting louder.
Darla says Angel can't protect her
Darla turns to face him and tells him he can't protect her because he's too busy protecting everyone else. As they begin to kiss, they both turn toward the source of the pounding.
Wes hammers in the nails
In the shadows, Wesley is hammering nails into an old style coffin.

Angel tells him to stop then sees Darla has disappeared. He grabs Wesley by the throat, angry that he made Darla go away.
Angel grabs Wes
Angel is on top of Wesley with his hand around his throat, no longer dreaming. He wants to know what Wes is doing there.
Wes tries to explain
Wesley is trying to talk, to explain why he's there, but he's having a bit of trouble talking with Angel's hand crushing his throat.

Angel apologizes and backs off of him.
Angel offers Wes a hand upWes would rather get up on his own
Wesley looks at Angel and notices his state of undress. He seems nervous about that but it doesn't appear to bother Angel who tells him he'll get dressed.

As Wes starts to get up, Angel extends a hand to help but Wes would rather do it himself.

Cordy offers first aid
At Gunn's place, Cordy finishes bandaging the head of the kid she whomped with the ax.

Gunn wants her to leave now. He heads out into the hall telling her he'll walk her to her car.
Cordy doesn't like being dismissed
Cordy grabs her bag and her ax and rushes to catch up with him. She says he can't just dismiss her, he's in danger and she knows what she's talking about.

Gunn reminds her she just clocked one of his crew with an ax, thinking he was a demon.
Cordy isn't going anywhererealizing the car is gone
Cordy thinks it was an honest mistake. She tells him she had a vision of him in danger, and she's not leaving him until she knows he's safe.

They exit the building to where Angel's car was parked. Gunn asks her where the car is.

Wes, Angel realize the car is missing
At the hotel, Angel and Wes exit the back. They both scan the area a moment. Wes finally asks Angel where his car is.

Angel continues looking around, likely wondering the same thing.

Cordy figures Angel has no insurance
Gunn is driving with Cordy in the passenger side of his truck. She worries what Angel will do when he finds out she got his car stolen. She doesn't figure it's insured.

Gunn says he'll get it back.
Gunn thinks he knows where to look
Cordy wonders how.

Gunn says there's only a couple of people in the neighborhood who boost vintage wheels. He'll track it down.
Cordy doesn't find Gunn too charming
Cordy wonders how he plans to get the car back when he finds it. She derisively suggests he'll probably use the same "charm" he used on Jameel at the garage.

Gunn tells her he'll say "please".

They continue to argue back and forth, as she again insists she's not leaving him until she knows he's safe no matter how rude he is to her.
Gunn hopes to be rid of Cordy soon
Gunn doesn't want her hanging around. As he sees it, she invaded his space, attacked one of his guys then attached herself to his hip. He figures he finds the car, she gets it back and he gets his freedom back.

Cordy insists that's not how it works, he needs protection and she's going to offer it whether he likes it or not.

Gunn wonders how she thinks she's going to protect him with her little ax.
Cordy has mace
Cordelia offers she also has mace as she pulls the can out of her bag and shows it to Gunn.
Gunn thinks the mace is silly
He laughs and wonders if she expects to be attacked by "purse snatching demons".

Cordy figures it's going to have to suffice since she's not leaving Gunn until she knows he's safe.

Wes tells Angel to get on the bike
Back at the hotel, Wes has pulled his motorcycle in front of the rear exit. He gets on it and waits for Angel to get on the back.
Angel, having pink hemet issues
Angel looks apprehensively at the pink helmet Wesley has given him. He's sure it won't fit and besides, he doesn't need a helmet for protection.

Wes reminds him it's the law in California and points out they don't really want to be pulled over by the police.
Angel, still arguing about the helmet
Angel still doesn't want to put it on citing visibility issues, hair issues, besides it's for a woman.
Angel finally gives in
Wes gets assertive and tells him to stop complaining and put it on which he finally does. Wes says it looks nice and invites him to "Hop on board, gorgeous."

Angel assures Wesley he'll pay him back for this humiliation as he climbs on the back of the bike and they head out.

Gunn, Cordy enter the lot
Gunn and Cordy arrive at a fenced used car lot. She notes the car isn't there.

Gunn tells her those that are newly stolen would be inside.

A young black guy comes out of the office on the lot and asks if he can help them.

Gunn describes the car they're looking for, a 1967 Plymouth convertible.
Henry comes out of the office
The guy says he doesn't have one, but give him a few days, he'll see what he can do.

Gunn introduces Cordy to the guy, his name is Henry.

Cordy mentions her friend's car was stolen.
Henry denies having the car
Henry says he doesn't have it and directs them to someone named Desmond. He has a fondness for convertibles.

As Gunn and Cordy start to leave, Henry tells them they won't find Desmond at his shop. He'll be at a party at Tito's, everyone is invited.
Gunn asks where the cars are stolen from
Gunn asks where Henry jacks the cars from he has on his lot. He thinks they look like neighborhood cars.

Henry wonders if Gunn is trying to start something.
Gunn warns Henry
Gunn doesn't care if Henry steals BMW's from rich people in Brentwood, but if he's going to steal neighborhood cars, he'll have to deal with Gunn.
Deevak has plans for Gunn
Henry suggests Gunn should mind his own business.

After Cordy and Gunn leave, a large demon, Deevak, and a couple of vamps approach Henry. Deevak knows who Gunn is and intends to finish him off that night.

Gunn confronts the kid
Gunn and Cordelia arrive at the party. They run into one of Gunn's crew coming out of the house. Gunn isn't happy the kid is partying instead of patrolling the garment district like he's supposed to be doing.

The kid says there wasn't anything going on down there. He didn't see any harm in coming to the party for awhile.
the kid gets a talking to
An irritated Gunn tells him to leave, they'll talk about it later. The kid departs.

As Gunn and Cordy head up to the house, Cordy sarcastically marvels at his people skiGunn tells Cordy how to behavells.

Gunn tells her when they get inside the party to stay quiet and stay close.
Cordy assures Gunn she knows how to blend in
Cordelia isn't happy being ordered around and points out she only takes orders from Angel and he's usually nice about it. Besides, she doesn't need Gunn to tell her how to behave at a party, she knows how to blend in.
Cordy agrees with Gunn's plan
They go inside. It doesn't take Cordelia long to notice she appears to be the only Caucasian at the party. She acknowledges blending will be tough and agrees with Gunn's earlier suggestion to stick close and keep quiet.
Veronica greets Gunn
Gunn is approached by a friend, Veronica. She asks who his "friend" is, referring to Cordelia.
Cordy tries to explain
Cordy assures her she's not Gunn's friend, she's just a "working girl." Off Veronica's look, Cordy realizes that didn't come out right. She babbles on a bit, trying to explain.

Gunn finally interrupts and dismissively introduces her then tells Veronica they want to talk to Desmond.
Veronica tells Gunn Desmond is around
Veronica says he's there somewhere.

Gunn greets various guests as he and Cordelia work their way through the crowd looking for Desmond.

Cordy wonders if Gunn is friends with all the criminals in the neighborhood.
Gunn doesn't like Cordy's assumption
Gunn accuses her of assuming everybody in the neighborhood is a criminal.

She's not sure that isn't an accurate assessment.

Gunn offers his opinion Cordy's friend Nabbit likely didn't become a billionaire by being a good citizen.

Cordy corrects his erroneous assumption about Nabbit by pointing out he made his money developing software that allows sight impaired people to use computers and that he created a foundation that gives away millions every year to numerous charities.
Gunn sees Desmond
Gunn isn't impressed telling her his people haven't seen any of those millions.

Gunn sees Desmond, he calls to him.
Desmond starts to explain
Desmond offers him a drink, Gunn tells him he wants the car back that was taken from his place.
Gunn gets pummeled
A bunch of vamps break into the house, fight ensues. Gunn is being pummeled by several vamps.

Cordy grabs a lamp and smashes it over the back of one of the vamp's heads. He turns and hits her, sending her flying across the room.
Veronica gets cut
When Veronica tries to intervene, she is shoved into a the glass front of a display case, shattering it. A piece of the broken glass embeds in her neck, slashing her badly.
Cordy helps Veronica
Cordy grabs a towel and presses it to Veronica's neck as she helps her to sit up and lean against the couch. The vamps take off.
Gunn checks on Veronica
Gunn comes over to Cordy and Veronica to see what's happened.

Cordelia tells him they need to get Veronica to the hospital right away.

Cordy, Gunn bring Veronica into the hospital
As they bring Veronica into the hospital, Cordy details what happened and what she did, how Veronica was doing.

The doctor tells Gunn Cordy probably saved Veronica's life, they need to step out of the examining room now so the staff can take care of her. Cordy gently reassures a reluctant Gunn it's okay to leave.
Gunn, feeling guilty
Cordy walks down the hall and finds Gunn in the waiting area, upset, feeling guilty Veronica almost died because he was the target. He's reminded of what happened to his sister ("War Zone").
Cordy demands to know where Angel's car is
Cordelia tries to assure him it wasn't his fault.

She hears a noise behind her as someone pushes the elevator button, it's Desmond. She turns and approaches him, demanding to know where the car is.

Wes, Angel try to get some answers
At Tito's, police and ambulances are still outside. Wes and Angel arrive looking for Gunn and Cordelia.

A young black woman comes out of the house, shaken and upset. Wes asks her if she knows Charles Gunn, a friend of his told them he might be found there.

She claims she doesn't know who he is, maybe one of the people who got hurt.

Angel notices a bloody gash on her forehead.

She insists she's fine.

Angel asks what happened.
the girl explains what happened
She says they were partying when some guys broke in, she doesn't know who they were after but they were really strong. She thinks maybe they were on drugs or something. She says she needs to lie down. She turns to go.
Wes suggests the girl see someone
Wes suggests perhaps she should see someone about the gash on her forehead.

Angel asks her if she's sure she's okay.

She smiles and says she is, thanking him for his concern.
the girl vamps outAngel wants answers now
He head butts her causing her to vamp out. He wants answers from her now.

Wes does a quick scan of the area to see if anyone is looking.

Cordy, Gunn find the car in the garage
Gunn and Cordy arrive at a garage. They find Angel's car there, much to Cordelia's relief. Gunn tells her to drive it home, he'll follow her.
Cordy realizes she doesn't have the keys
Cordy doesn't have the car keys, she realizes she left them in the car when she rushed in to rescue Gunn. She's sure the keys have to be there, somewhere. After a brief search, she asks if he knows how to hot wire the car.

Gunn tells her just because he knows some car thieves doesn't mean he is one.
Cordy suggests Gunn help her look
Cordelia suggests rather than look for reasons to be insulted, he could help her look for the keys.
Deevak has the keys
Deevak and some of his lackeys come into the garage area. The demon has the car keys.

Gunn tells Cordy to go, but she insists she's going to stay and help.

Deevak sarcastically notes it's touching to see a woman willing to die with "her man".
Cordy wants to clarify the friends thing
Cordy is quick to point out Gunn is just a friend and she's not sold on the "willing to die" part either.
Cordy gets disarmed
Deevak grabs Gunn by the throat and lifts him off the ground.

Cordy tries to hit him with her ax, but he grabs her arm, causing her to drop it. He wonders how it feels for Gunn to meet up with someone who's tougher than he is.
Deevak morphs into Jameel
As Deevak continues to strangle Gunn, he morphs into human form, becoming the informant they met with initially, Jameel.
Cordy maces the demon
As Deevak continues to keep a grip on Cordy's arm, she manages to get her mace with her free arm and and spray him with it. He drops Gunn to the ground and morphs back into his demon self.
Wes, Angel arrive
Wes and Angel arrive on Wesley's bike. Wes lays it down on its side in the garage. Fight ensues.
Cordy gets pinned
Cordy is pinned by one of the vamps to a car with her ax to her throat. Wes reaches up from the floor and stakes the vamp, dusting it. He yanks Cordelia down out of the way just as another vamp smashes a crowbar through the place Cordy's head had been, smashing the vehicle window.

Angel's fighting skills seem to be back up to par as he has an easier time with the vamps then he did in the prior encounter.
Deevak prepares to finish Gunn
Deevak knocks Gunn to the floor and goes after him with a dagger.
Angel plants the ax in the demon's head
Angel sees what's happening, runs up the hood of one of the cars and calls to Cordy to throw him the ax. As she does, he somersaults in midair, catches the ax and plants it in Deevak's head just before the demon can bury the dagger in Gunn.

The demon falls next to Gunn, dead. Angel extends his hand and offers Gunn an assist to his feet.

Wes offers Angel his keys
As Angel pushes his car out of the garage, Wesley calls to him that he's found his keys. He hold them up, not touching them but rather hanging them from his pen.
Angel wonders what's covering the keys
Angel asks what's all over them.

Wes isn't sure, some kind of demon blood or body fluids most likely.

Angel wonders if anyone knows how to hot wire the car.
Cordy follows Gunn back to his truck
Cordy accompanies Gunn as he walks back to his truck. He figures she expects him to thank her for saving him.
Cordy thinks she has it figured out
She says she didn't, the demon wasn't the danger to him, the danger is himself. She figures he's on a self-destructive path, he needs saving and he should plan to have her around for awhile, at least until he finds some peace.

Gunn thinks that could take quite awhile as he gets into his truck.
Gunn offers a smile in thanks
Cordy says she doesn't mind, helping others is what she and her friends do. She asks about a thank you.

Gunn looks back at her and smiles, then leaves.

Darla greets Angel
Angel enters the hotel where he's greeted by Darla. She thinks he looks worn down, she wonders what's wrong.

He says nothing is wrong.
Darla wonders if Angel saved lives
She wonders if he saved any lives today.

He says a few.

She asks if anyone bothered to thank him.

He says no.
Angel's used to the lack of gratitude
She notes that's typical, all he does is give but nobody gives back.
Darla asks who takes care of Angel
He's used to it. He has a lot to make up for.

She tells him he has done that, he takes care of everyone. She wonders who takes care of him?
"You do."
He smiles broadly and says, "You do."
Darla removes Angel's shirt
She leads him over to the couch and pushes him down onto it. She puts his feet up, straddles him and removes his shirt. She starts kissing him.

Cut to Angel in his bed, a smile on his face.
the reality of Angel's dream
As he's dreaming, we see Darla who has gotten into bed with him, having apparently left her clothes somewhere else. She's on top of him, running her hands up his chest and kissing him. What she says follows from what he's dreaming as she begins to nuzzle his neck, saying she could just eat him up.
