"Sleep Tight"

Written by: David Greenwalt Original Air Date: March 4, 2002

Wes ponders the prophecy
At the office, Wes is sitting behind his desk, reading over the words of the prophecy, as Connor fusses in his bassinet. Wes gets up and walks over to him.

Angel comes in, drinking a glass of blood, and asks him if he doesn't know what he's supposed to do.

Wes looks confused.

Angel tells him he's supposed to pick up the baby when he fusses as he puts down the glass and picks up his son.
Angel notices Wes is overworked
Wes apologizes, saying he's not been sleeping well.

Angel's noticed he "looks like hell" and not the fun one, "where they burn you with hot pokers for all eternity", more like the "Nixon/Britney Spears kind of hell." He laughs.

Wes notices Angel seems to be in a good mood.

Angel says he doesn't know what it is, maybe it was the earthquake but he hardly slept. He's got more energy than he knows what to do with and he's really hungry. He picks up a glass of blood and starts drinking from it.

Wes points out the earthquake caused a bit of a problem considering they have no insurance.

Angel knows his room is a wreck but he's not concerned about that, reminding Wes it's a hotel, there are plenty of rooms. He and Connor will just move into another one until it's fixed.
Angel hears singing
Angel hears a woman singing. He asks Wes who it is.

Wes answers Lorne is seeing a client out in the garden.

Angel takes Connor and his glass of blood, and walks over to where he can watch the woman sing.
Lorne
The woman stops singing and asks Lorne if he sees anything.

He's seen that she's afraid. He tells her to keep singing.
Angel hands Connor off to Wes
Connor starts crying. Angel takes him back into the lobby, over to the weapons cabinet. He shows the baby his favorite broadsword. He puts the cutlery back and turns away from the cabinet, telling Wes Connor will be crawling soon, they need to baby proof the place. He hands Connor over to Wes, who rather stiffly takes him. Angel assures Connor his "Uncle Wes" loves him, he's "just English." He laughs as he turns his attention back to the weapons cabinet.

Fred comes downstairs, talking on a cell phone, going on about Texas. She says Texas doesn't hate black men, or at least not most of Texas, those "with a brain". She wonders what's so great about California.
Fred, Gunn
Gunn enters the lobby, also talking on a cell, explaining California has the weather, the ocean, the Lakers -- Fred counters with the negatives; earthquakes, traffic, smog.

They walk up to each other.

Gunn says California has Fred.

Fred concedes he wins as they both hang up their phones and grin at each other.

Wes sarcastically notes it's good to know they're using the company phones for such important matters.

Gunn wonders if Wes would like him to pay for the call.
Wes offers to take Connor to the park
Angel thinks a chain and combination lock for the weapons cabinet is a good idea as a means of baby proofing it. He walks over and kisses Connor who's still in Wesley's arms. Angel tells Wes the baby likes him, he can tell.

Wes answers that he likes Connor too. He was thinking perhaps he could take the baby to the beach or the park, just the two of them, in the next day or two.

Angel takes Connor back and tells Wes that sounds like a good idea.

Lorne comes into the lobby and tells the others there's something they need to see. He asks if they can accompany him back to the garden.
the gang watch the singerSinger girl has a problem
Lorne introduces the young singer, Kim, and tells her to go ahead and sing as the others look on.

As she sings, she suddenly morphs violently into a demon, threatening to rip out eyeballs and tear children in half. Green stuff spews from her mouth. She changes back to her distraught human self.

Lorne, Kim
Lorne and the others are in the lobby. Lorne tells them Kim came to see him a couple of years earlier.

She says Lorne showed her the path she was supposed to be on.

Lorne explains that she was wasting her time in medical school when she should have been singing.

Gunn notes singing demons are certainly more important than doctors.

Kim adds that the demon stuff is new.
Angel ponders flying nuns
Angel drinks from a glass of blood and goes on about "singing demons, flying nuns". He tells Gunn it was a good joke.

Gunn just looks at him, not sure what that was about.

Lorne says Kim hooked up with some guys in a band a few weeks earlier. He lets Kim explain the rest.

She says the guys were laid back types, no drugs or anything like that. They played well.

Angel is still pondering his fondness for nuns. He wonders how the "Flying Nun" managed to do that. God or magic?

The others look at him, then at each other, confused.

Angel tells them he just wonders about those things sometimes. He tells Kim to go ahead with her story as he fidgets, walking nervously around the lobby.

Kim says the band guys suddenly started changing. The lead guitarist grew a seventh finger.

Gunn wonders about that.

Kim said he already had six, she just thought -- She realizes she really didn't know what she thought.
Wes, Fred work on a solution
In the background, Wes converses with Fred who's sitting at the desk doing an analysis of something.

Kim goes on to say that the drummer grew spines down his back and the band started playing some bizarre stuff day and night. She says then it happened to her, what they witnessed when she was singing in the garden.

Angel takes a long drink from his glass of blood.

Kim wonders if she's going to become what she turned into in the garden.

Wes tells her she won't, she's human. What's happening to her is an infection, it's not permanent.

Fred tells her to take some"cylenthium powder" for a couple of months. That will take care of it.

Kim looks at Lorne who explains it's a mystical antibiotic. He assures her he'll get her some.
Fred finds an answerWes fills in the details
Fred holds up a microscope slide and tells Kim she figured her saliva was a bit suspicious, being green. After analyzing it, she found traces of "penloxia."

That means something to Lorne who now knows the demons are "Wraithers."

Kim wonders what that is.

Wes explains they're demons that can make themselves human for up to two weeks at a time, then they revert back to their true form.

Gunn wonders why these particular demons would want to look like musicians.

Angel points out that musicians get the women. He doesn't figure they'd be as successful if they were dentists. He's anxious to take them out. He asks where they can be found.

Kim says they're at their rehearsal space, an old loading dock. She gives the location.
Angel's ready for a plan
Angel looks to Wes for the plan. Wes tells him the demons will have to be killed. It's the only way to deal with that sort. He instructs Angel, Gunn and Fred to go and tells Lorne to stay with Connor. He says he has some business of his own to tend to.

Fred wonders if they shouldn't contact Cordelia and Groo considering if anything happens to any of them, they'll need some backup at the office.

Angel declines, saying he doesn't want to interrupt Cordy's vacation. He's sure they can handle a couple of Wraithers. He seems to be looking forward to it.

Kim tells him there are three of them.

Angel is anxious to get on with it.

At Holtz's, Justine is training minions using a vamp leashed on a chain. The vamp comes at her. She knocks him to his knees, wraps the chain around his neck and flips him over her back. She reminds the others never to trust vamps and advises them to keep practicing.
Justine
Holtz looks on. As the others chain the vamp to the wall and pound on him, Holtz notes he's unhappy with something.

Justine assures him the minions will learn or they'll get killed.

Holtz clarifies he's finding their progress satisfactory, he was referring to the tea he's drinking from the Styrofoam cup. Not fond of that.

Justine offers to get some China.
Holtz wonders if Justine is ready
Holtz thanks her and asks if she's ready.

Justine says she is, but she doesn't sound convincing.

Holtz asks what she's unsure of. He wonders if it's him.

Justine says they may end up killing some of the people who work with Angel. She's bothered by that.

Holtz tells her they may end up killing all of them.

Justine assures him she has no problem following him anywhere, doing whatever it takes, to kill vampires but people --.

Holtz realizes the reason for her concern, killing people is a different matter than killing vampires for her. He drops a knife down from inside his sleeve, into his hand, without anyone noticing.
Wes arrives
Justine comes to see things his way before his intentions are clear. She rationalizes by saying they chose to work for Angel. That makes them the enemy.

Wes comes in and wonders if that makes it okay then.

Holtz greets Wesley.

Justine wants to know why Wes is there.

Holtz tells her Wes is their guest. He figures he's in the midst of making a very difficult decision. He cuts off a slice of an apple he's holding with the knife he'd slipped into his hand earlier and offers Wes a bite.

Fred, Gunn confront the band demons
At the rehearsal space, the band is playing head banging stuff. A couple of girls dance to it. The window is shattered from the outside as Gunn tosses something through it.

Angel, Gunn and Fred enter. Gunn is armed with a crossbow.

The guitarist tells Gunn he's going to have to pay for the window.

Gunn assures him he won't.

The drummer wonders if they're from the record company. He tells them the whole band isn't there, they have a really good lead singer but she's out at the moment. He comes onto Fred with a "Hey, baby."

Gunn doesn't like it.

Angel tells them they don't work for the record company, they're there to kill them.

The guitarist insists they're still going to have to pay for breaking the window.

The drummer takes a leap toward Fred.

Gunn stops him with a punch. He directs Fred to escort the girls out of there.
Gunn holds off the demonsAngel has other ideas
As the others head for Gunn, he aims the crossbow at them, holding them off. As they stop in their tracks, Gunn advises them to "take it like a demon."

Angel morphs into vamp face, growls and leaps onto the stage area, taking on all three of the demons. Fight ensues.

Gunn finishes one off with an arrow through the throat.

Fred comes back into the building.
Angel has a good timeFred reacts to Angel's actions
Angel has finished off the second demon and is punching on the last demon standing. He grabs him by the arm and hurls him through the air, into the staircase, breaking it apart and tearing the demon's arm off in the process.

Gunn and Fred look on, stunned, as Angel looks at the severed arm he's holding, noting enthusiastically, "That was fun!"

Wes
At Holtz's, Wes tells him he doesn't want anybody getting hurt, on either side.

Holtz claims to share Wesley's lack of enthusiasm for violence, saying he's inflicted much less of it in his lifetime than Angelus has.

Wes makes the "Angel" distinction.

It's lost on Holtz who doesn't care what name he goes by. He doesn't agree that Angel isn't responsible for his past actions just because he has a soul now.
Justine, Holtz
Justine figures there's nothing to talk about. Angel is a vampire, that's the end of it. She picks up the knife Holtz had set down earlier and approaches Wes, expressing her concern that he'll stab them in the back.

Wes asks her who she lost.

Justine isn't willing to answer.

Wes figures her being there, ready to kill and die for the cause, she must have lost someone important.

Holtz answers for her, telling Wes her twin sister was murdered by vampires.

Wes expresses his sympathy for the loss of her family. He tells her Angel and the others he works with are his family and when he says he doesn't want anyone to get hurt --
Wes makes a point
He grabs Justine, turns her around and pins her arm so she can't do anything with the knife. He assures her he doesn't stab people in the back.
Wes hears the terms
Holtz walks up and takes the knife out of Justine's hand. He knows Wes is an honest man. He figures he can trust him. He tells Wes he can trust him in return.

Wes doesn't.

Holtz reminds him he's not the problem at the moment. That would be Wesley's "friend" who's going to kill his own son. He knows Wes understands he has to do something about that, and soon. He assures him if Wes doesn't take care of it, he will. Holtz says he won't stand by while an innocent child is murdered but he won't attack or endanger other innocents unless he's forced to.

Wes asks how long he's being given

Holtz tells him he has one day. He trusts Wes will make the right decision. After one day, everybody gets hurt.

Wes walks out.

Connor
At the hotel, Lorne is telling Connor a Sinatra story.

Angel and the others come into the Lobby. Angel heads straight for the office fridge.

Lorne asks how things went.

Angel tells him they tore the demons apart

Fred points out that's literally what happened.

Angel pours some blood into a glass and guzzles it. Lorne tells him Connor's been good all day but he misses his daddy. He could use a little attention.
Lorne reacts to Angel's ranting
Angel is irritated and edgy, saying the kid always needs something, all day, every day. Connor cries.

Lorne asks if something is wrong.

Angel angrily answers that everything is just fine, he's got a kid that "cries, pees and moans and never gives me a moment to myself."
Angel on a rant
Lorne comforts Connor, telling him everything is okay.

Angel says it really isn't as he yells at the baby to shut up.

Fred tells him not to yell, Connor is just a baby.

Angel tells her he won't be for long if he keeps up the racket. He throws the glass against the wall, splattering it with the blood.
Angel realizes something isn't right
Fred picks up Connor as Gunn firmly suggests to Angel that he get control of himself.

Angel watches the blood run down the wall, realizing something is wrong.

Gunn figures that's obvious.

Lorne wonders just when Angel started drinking so much blood.

Angel answers that it's been a few days.

Fred asks where he got his blood from.

Angel says the same butcher he always uses. It's pig's blood. Though thinking on it a moment, he realizes the last batch seemed much more "tasty" than usual.

Gunn points out Angel was energetic in the morning, went a bit crazy on the demons, kind of crashed after that, then came back, had another drink and got violent again.
Angel doesn't see the problem
Fred mentions her aunt had a similar problem with "Southern Comfort."

Angel doesn't see the issue here, pointing out he's a vampire, he needs to drink blood. It doesn't mean he has a problem.

Lorne points out it could be if someone was spiking Angel's blood supply.

Fred looks at the blood running down the wall, hands Connor off to Gunn and suggests they find out.

Wes is walking down the sidewalk at night. He sees a man heading for his house, the guy's little boy runs out to meet him. Wes watches as the man greets his wife on the porch, they all go inside.
Wes realizes he's being followed
Wes continues on his way, suddenly notices someone is following him. He calls out to them, saying he knows this person is better than this at following people.
Wes hears Justine out
Justine steps out from behind a tree.

Wes wonders what the game is.

She says she's alone, Holtz doesn't know where she is. She wants to talk about him.

Wes asks if she's going to offer to help him behind Holtz's back.

She wonders if he's always so suspicious.

Wes tells her he respects her determination and the fact she works for a man she believes is "noble and good" even though he isn't.

Justine doesn't understand Wes making judgments considering he works with a vampire.

Wes tells her Angel actually is "noble and good". Odd how that works, but that's how it is. He reminds her Holtz may talk of justice but he's driven by revenge and he'll kill whoever gets in his way, including her.

Justine doesn't believe that. He's done a lot for her and the others.

Wes thinks it sounds a bit like a cult.
Holtz shows up
Justine assures him Holtz will keep his word to give Wesley the day. She thinks Wes is the blind one, hating Holtz because it's easier than hating himself for what he's about to do to his friend.

Wes assures her there's enough hate to go around and advises her to take care as he walks away.

A surprised Justine turns at the sound of Holtz's voice telling her he hadn't heard her leave.

Gunn Angel declines Gunn's offer to hold Connor
At the Hyperion, Gunn is holding a sleeping Connor as Fred drops a sample of blood onto a slide to examine under a microscope. He asks Angel if he wants to hold the baby.

Angel doesn't think it would be a good idea.

Fred tells him there's something in the pig's blood.

Angel already knows it, he feels it. He knows it's human blood and he knows it's Connor's.

Gunn wonders how he knew that.

He says the last few days Connor has "smelled like food."

Lorne figures the plan was to give Angel a taste of it so he'd want more.

Fred wonders who would do such a thing.

Angel figures he knows.

Lilah reflected in the bar mirrorAngel arrives
Lilah is sitting at a bar, nursing a drink. She looks into the mirror behind the bar, seeing nothing but saying she's starting to sense him when he's around. She thinks that's kind of creepy as she turns to see Angel standing behind her. She asks how he knew where to find her.

He answers he got the information from her assistant.

Lilah plans to have her assistant's arms broken.

Angel assures her it's been taken care of.

Lilah wonders if she's next on Angel's list.

He tells her he could do many things to her, including keeping her alive a long time to prolong things. He has some experience in these matters. He wants to know how they could spike his blood supply with the blood of his own son.

Lilah tells him she was just doing her job.
Angel, Lilah have a chat
Angel takes a seat at the bar next to her and wonders if she ever gets tired of the act. He orders a whiskey and asks her if she could manage to just converse with him like a person for a change.

Lilah says she's been playing the game a long time. She's always had to be better, smarter, quicker than the men at the firm.

Angel wonders if it's a feminist thing as he tells the bartender Lilah will be paying for his drink.

Lilah assures him it's a survival thing. She's made a lot of deals with the devil and has kept her end of them. In return, she lives a dangerous life, but it's a comfortable one. Her mother, who barely recognizes her anymore, has the best room in the clinic. She does what she has to do.
Lilah has no regrets
Angel tells her if she keeps doing it, it will become a part of her, she won't be able to walk away from it.

Lilah points out he's a bit dense, he doesn't get it. She worked hard to get where she is, it became part of her long ago.

Angel caustically apologizes for hitting a nerve.

She laughs at the idea he thought there was some good in her he could appeal to. She's glad he showed up to clarify things for her. She says she was sitting at the bar wondering what it was all about and now she knows. It's all about making his unlife miserable. She offers a toast to that.
Angel, LIlah react to Sahjhan's arrival
Sahjhan materializes, not happy Lilah is sharing a drink with Angel. He tells Lilah he has much to do, he can't be everywhere at once and here he finds her drinking with his "sworn enemy."

Angel wonders how they could be "sworn enemies" when he doesn't remember ever meeting Sahjhan before, and certainly not swearing anything.

Lilah tells Sahjhan that Angel found her, she didn't seek him out.

Angel realizes they're working together. He figures Sahjhan is the one who brought Holtz to the present. He wonders how that's working out for Sahjhan, noting that Holtz isn't particularly fond of demons.

Sahjhan isn't going to give any answers.

Lilah notes he pretty much already confirmed what Angel suspected. She doesn't think that was too bright.
Sahjhan isn't happy
Sahjhan tells her he's busy moving from one dimension to another. Sometimes he only gets a visual, no sound, so when he saw her with Angel, he got the wrong idea.

Angel asks Sahjhan why he wants him dead.

Lilah says she couldn't get the answer to that question either. She doesn't really need a reason, she was just curious. She asks Sahjhan what it's about, if Angel made the moves on Sahjhan's bride, ate his family, what?

She notices Angel staring at Sahjhan and realizes he really doesn't recognize him.

Sahjhan assures Angel he'll pay.

Angel would like to know what for.

Sahjhan disappears.

Lilah figures Angel just made him angrier.

At the hotel, Wes comes into the lobby where Connor is alone in his bassinet. He pulls a cloth bag out from behind the desk and starts packing baby things into it.
Wes packing to leave
Lorne comes downstairs and asks Wes what he's doing.

Wes answers he's taking the baby to his place for the night. He's going to take him to the park in the morning. He says he discussed it with Angel earlier, he knows about it. He asks where Fred and Gunn are.
Lorne
Lorne tells him they're out getting something to eat. He hands Wes a baby bottle he'd just heated up and starts to noteAngel didn't mention anything but figures he just forgot since he left in a hurry.

Wes asks what happened.

Lorne says Angel was kind of weird that morning, but he figures Wes noticed that.
Wes realizes Lorne is on to him
Wesley picks up a crying Connor assuring him he'll have a great time with his "Uncle Wes." He starts singing to him to comfort him.

Lorne picks up on his plans from that.

Wes looks up at Lorne, realizes what's happened and stops singing. He puts the baby down and tackles Lorne as he tries to get away.

Lorne manages to get loose and get up but before he can get very far, Wes jumps him, pushing him into the back office, over the desk, onto the floor behind it. He punches him a few times then grabs a metal figurine and knocks Lorne unconscious with it.
Wes encounters Angel on the way out
Wes picks up Connor and the bag, and turns for the door.

Angel has come into the lobby and is standing in front of him. He isn't suspicious of anything. He asks where everyone is.

Wes answers Gunn and Fred went to get some food and Lorne had to go out for a bit. He reminds Angel they'd talked about him [Wes] taking Connor to the park. He says the one across from his place is always full of kids. He thought the baby could spend the night with him. He's a little uneasy as Angel looks at him for a bit, saying nothing.
Angel holds Connor one last time
Angel finally agrees it's probably a good idea.

Wes asks him if he wants to tell Connor good-bye.

Angel takes his son, kisses him and tells him to "sleep tight", he'll see him soon, as Wes looks on. Angel reminds Wes to check on him frequently during the night. He asks if Wes has everything, including the pediatrician's number.

Wes assures him he's got everything he needs.

Angel asks if Wes has ever heard of a time traveling demon named Sahjhan.

Wes hasn't.

Angel tells him Sahjhan is the one who brought Holtz to this time, he thinks Angel is his "sworn enemy" but he doesn't even know who the demon is. He wonders if Wes could do a little research before leaving for the night.
Angel asks Wes to call if he finds anything
Gunn and Fred return with food. Gunn asks where Lorne is.

Angel says Lorne went out.

Gunn asks where.

Angel asks Wes where Lorne said he had to go.

Wes offers Lorne wasn't specific. He thinks he had to meet with a client. He tells Angel he has better reference books at his place and Connor is getting sleepy. He offers to do the research when he gets home as he reaches out to take the baby from Angel.

Angel tells him to call if he finds anything.
Wes tells everyone goodnightAngel smiles as Wes leaves with Connor
Wes starts to leave, stops, quietly tells everyone he'll see them tomorrow. As he's leaving, Angel stops him.

He wants to be sure Wes knows the closest emergency room.

Wes assures him it's only one minute from his place, Connor will be fine.

Angel smiles as Wes leaves.

Angel isn't looking forward to dealing with his first night without his son. He tries to convince himself it's a good thing. Connor will get a chance to bond with his "Uncle Wes" and Angel will be able to get some sleep. He looks sadly at the stuffed animals in the empty bassinet.

Gunn tells him he and Fred will stay to keep him company.

Angel thanks them for that. He's sure Connor will be fine.

The sound of Lorne moaning can be heard from the back office. Fred asks if someone is in there.
Holtz arrives
Before they can investigate, Holtz and his minions enter the lobby.

Angel invites Holtz in.

Holtz asks him how he likes fatherhood.

Angel answers it's good as he takes note of the armed minions. He tells Holtz he met a friend of his earlier, Sahjhan.

Holtz wonders what he said.

Angel says he said a lot, but didn't really say anything. He doesn't quite get what Sahjhan is about.

One of Holtz's minions glances into the bassinet, notices it's empty, and shakes his head indicating 'no'.

Holtz takes note of that.
Angel wonders what Holtz knows
Angel asks if Holtz knows why Sahjhan hates him.

Holtz doesn't care. He asks where the baby is.

Angel isn't telling.

Holtz looks around, noting Angel seems to have made a nice life for himself.

Angel wonders if he came to fight or have tea.

Holtz tells his minions to keep Angelus alive as they attack. Fight ensues.

Angel, Gunn and Fred have their hands full as Holtz looks on.

Lorne finally comes to, sings out an ear piercing note that debilitates the attackers and allows the gang to get the upper hand.

Holtz departs unnoticed.

Angel helps Fred off the floor and asks if she's okay.
after the battle
She tells him she is but she's concerned about Connor.

Angel instructs her to call Wes.

Angel notices Lorne's condition, thinking Holtz did it. He suggests he sit down.
Angel gets the Wes news
Lorne tells him it wasn't Holtz, it was Wes.

A stunned Angel wants to know what Lorne is talking about.

Fred and Gunn also want to know what's going on.

Lorne tells Angel he read Wes when he was holding the baby. Connor was crying, Wes started to sing him a lullaby and Lorne read him. He doesn't know why Wes has done it.

Angel wants to know what.

Lorne says Wes has gone behind Angel's back to Holtz twice and he's not taking the baby for an overnight, he's taking the baby away forever.

Wes prepares to leave
Wes leaves his place and heads for his car. He packs some things into the back, closes the hatch and starts to put the baby inside. He stops when he hears a woman crying.
Wes approaches the woman
He sees a woman stumbling and sobbing nearby. He pulls a gun, cocks the trigger and aims it at her, warning her not to come any closer. He approaches her cautiously. He sees it's Justine.

She drops to her knees, telling him everything he said about Holtz is true.
Wes sees Justine is beaten up
Wes lowers the gun and walks toward her. He asks what happened as he puts the gun away.

She gets up and says Holtz didn't keep his word, he took the others and went after the baby. She walks closer to Wes who can now see she's pretty badly beaten. She implies that Holtz did it to her when she questioned his actions. She tells Wes he has to get out of there.
Wes left for dead
He wants to assist her to the hospital first.

She suddenly pulls a knife, grabs him and slashes his neck with it. She then grabs the baby and takes off in Wesley's car, leaving him lying on the ground clutching his bleeding throat as he passes out.

Gunn, Lorne
At the hotel, Fred says Wes isn't answering his cell, pager or home phone.

Lorne wonders if they shouldn't be getting Holtz's minions to a hospital.

Angel knows Holtz realized Connor wasn't there. He knows he would have torn the place apart looking for him otherwise. He figures he was stalling for time.

Lorne assumes it was to buy Wesley time to get away.

Angel knows Holtz is the key, that's who he wants to get his hands on. He adds that if Wes is with him --
Gunn defends Wes
Gunn doesn't think Angel should be jumping to conclusions, pointing out they don't have the whole story.

Angel isn't interested in Gunn's opinion on the subject.

Lorne suggests they both calm down.

Angel reminds Gunn Wesley took Connor.

Gunn understands that he just thinks --
Angel isn't interested in Gunn's view
Angel grabs him and shoves him against the wall.

Fred breaks it up, reminding them the important thing is finding Connor.

Angel grabs one of Holtz's guys still lying on the floor of the lobby and jerks him to his feet. He demands to know where Holtz is.

The guy isn't quick with an answer.

Angel throws him through the air, across the lobby. He pulls one of the other guys to his feet and threatens him with serious bodily harm if he doesn't give him the information he's looking for.

The guy gives him an address.

Angel grabs a sword and heads out.
Fred suggests finding Wes before Angel does
Fred thinks they'd better find Wes before Angel does.

Gunn suggests they start by looking at Wesley's place as he and Fred leave.

Lorne offers to remain behind in case Wes returns. He retrieves a baseball bat from behind the desk, noting he'll be ready for him this time.

Lilah gets the info
Lilah arrives at the same address Angel is headed for. She approaches some heavily armed commandoes who are posted outside and asks what they've got.

One of the guys tells her they picked up a couple of Holtz's minions from the hotel attack but they didn't know where he was, Holtz didn't return there after leaving the hotel.

Lilah wonders where he went.

The guy answers they lost him but they'll pick him up again. He listens briefly to a message coming through his earpiece, then gives Lilah a location under a bridge. They head out.

Angel takes out the occupants of one of their Humvees, gets behind the wheel and heads to the same place.

Holtz joins JustineJustine
Justine stops to pick up Holtz. He gets into Wesley's car and asks her how things went.

She tells him things went well.

He looks in the back seat and sees the baby. He tells Connor he's his father, Justine is his mother, his name is now "Steven Franklin Thomas" and he's going to grow up with them on a ranch out in the middle of nowhere. He asks Justine what it's like in Utah.

Justine tells him it's nice.

He suggests they get going.

As Justine heads out, one of the Humvees arrives, blocking her, forcing her to stop the car.

Angel, Lilah and the rest of her minions arrive.
Holtz threatens Connor
Angel runs toward Wesley's car.

Justine hurls herself into him, slowing him down long enough to give Holtz a chance to retrieve Connor from the back seat.

Angel starts for Holtz who warns him if he comes any closer, he'll snap the baby's neck.

The paramilitary types surround him, weapons aimed at Holtz. He asks who they are.

Lilah steps forward and informs him they work for her. She expects Holtz to hand over the baby.

Angel tells him not to do it.
Lilah
Lilah finds it interesting that Angel would rather the revenge seeking fanatic have the baby than W&H. She informs Holtz the automatic weapons her people are armed with can do significant damage.

Angel tells him if they were going to use their weapons, they would have. They want Connor alive.

Holtz figures they all have that much in common.
Sahjhan has his own plans
Sahjhan materializes and informs him that's not everybody's desire. He tells Lilah she wants the child dead, not alive, that was their agreement.

Lilah tells him she has a new arrangement, she's keeping the baby.

Sahjhan doesn't find that acceptable.

Lilah tells her minions to ignore Sahjhan, he can't do anything in this dimension.
Holtz makes a threat
Angel disarms one of the guys standing close to him and points the gun at Lilah. She orders her men not to shoot.

Angel agrees that wouldn't be a good idea since bullets won't kill him but can kill them, and Lilah will be his first target. He looks back at Holtz who's still holding Connor.

Holtz reminds him if he tries anything, the baby will be dead before Holtz hits the ground.

Angel understands that.

As they all briefly ponder the standoff, Holtz figures he's free to leave since that's the only way Connor gets to stay alive. He'll kill him if anyone tries to take him.
Angel tells Holtz to take Connor
Angel reluctantly tells him to take the baby.

Sahjhan doesn't like that idea.

Holtz tells Angel he'll care for Connor as if he were his own, he'll never even know Angel existed. He warns him not to come after them then realizes he probably will. He considers perhaps he should just -- as he holds his open hand near the baby's neck.

Angel says "No, please," then tells Holtz to take him.
the portal is opened
Sahjhan raises his arms and begins reciting some words. A tremor, explosion and flash of light heralds the opening of a flaming portal, bolts of energy shoot out of it randomly, starting fires. He tells the others it's "the Quor-toth, darkest of the dark worlds" and explains he can either widen the portal and they'll all be engulfed by a world they can't begin to imagine or Lilah can keep to their agreement and kill the baby, now.

When he doesn't get an immediate response, Sahjhan widens the portal.

Lilah orders her men to kill Connor.
Angel is knocked to the ground
Angel warns them not to as he aims the gun at them.

Holtz shoves Justine between himself and the commandoes, then jumps through the portal with the baby in his arms

Angel tries to follow but is hit by a bolt of energy that sends him flying backwards through the air and onto the ground.

Sahjhan casually concedes that's a possibility he hadn't considered, but it solves his problem. He raises his arms, recites some words, the portal closes. He tells the others to have a good summer and disappears.
Lilah's bummed about paperwork
Lilah isn't happy, figuring she's going to be buried in paperwork trying to explain this one. As she starts to leave, one of her minions asks if they shouldn't do something about Angel who's still on the ground, staring toward where the portal was.
Angel faces the loss of his son
Justine takes off in Wesley's car.

Lilah thinks letting Angel suffer is the right thing to do as she and her men depart, leaving Angel lying on the ground, devastated over the loss of his son.
