Now THAT was an unexpected ending to the chapter G. Love Willow starting to see what Spike always has, there is not much difference between Angel and Angelus at all. I am dying to find out the Powers real plan here. I agree with Willow that their insistance upon Angel as their champion is (and was on the show) crazy! He was convenient at best. Kathleen

Eh? Well, isn't that a cliffie of an ending. I'm guessing this actually isn't about Angel, at all, but about Spike. The final test to elevate him to favorite of the Powers. Simply because Willow is right about Angel - he doesn't make the right choices in the big moments, nor for the right reasons. Loved how you wrote Spike's memories of home, the relishment in cherished smells and sounds, and tastes. Is Dru completely still because the moment's been paused, so Cordy can talk to Spike?

Why do I get the feeling that these tests were designed for Spike in the first place and the PTB are using Angel as an excuse and had set this up from the beginning to test Spike and see if he is the true champion? They are testing him to see if he would do the right thing no matter what his personal preference, like Buffy has had to do over the years. hmmm....well that's my view might change next update ;) Well loving this fic. I love how Buffy stood up to Angel and didn't let his words get him down and that she let Spike know that he was her man and that she was 100% behind him! The first trial seemed easy enough but it looks like the 2nd trial will be a doozy! Nothing is ever easy when Dru's around! I can't wait to see what happens!

Fantastic chapter, of course you did end with that nail-biting cliffhanger. I loved the interaction between Buffy and Spike, and how Spike again realized how much Buffy loves him, and that it is real. Harm was a wonderful piece of fun in the middle of all the angst and her little scene was the perfect balance for the chapter. Update soon. Please.

I wonder why Angel never noticed the aftertaste of his blood. Then again, knowing the broody one he probably just thought the blood tasted bad and thought that it was his penance for all the bad that he had done. Unlike Spike who would add things to the blood to make it taste better. For an undead guy, Spike really knew how to live! lol I am really worried about what will happen next thanks to your foreshadowing so please don't keep us in suspense for too long! Still loving the story!
I think Angel was used to drinking pigs blood for so long that he didn't even consider there was anything wrong. And Harmony would be demanding the best, as usual, so it would be immediately apparent to her. I won't keep you hanging long, I promise, and thank you so much for your interest.

Yikes! Oh, please update soon! After this, there's no way the Powers can hold Angel in higher regard than Spike. He doesn't even LIKE Angel, and yet he's still doing the right thing. Kick ass, Big Bad!
I will, I promise. The Powers suck sometimes, but Spike has a way of becoming indispensible and partially due to his sense of noble sacrifice. One fight, coming up. Thanks for reading and reviewing.

Oooo Can't wait! I know our boy...he has the incentive he needs now to make it through. This is such a compelling story I love the wonderful updates. I think there is so much truth to the Angel character you have painted. That demon was always just barely under the surface and not so much under his soul's control either. So very different from Spike, even when Spike was unsouled. You have captured him perfectly here in this story. Kathleen
Thank you so much Kathleen. I'm glad you find Angel believable. I don't want to 'bash' him because after all he has been chosen by the Powers to be a champion, but I do believe he is flawed. And I don't want him to get Buffy. I was always struck by the glaring differences between unsouled Angel and unsouled Spike - even before the chip, Spike was capable of reining in his demonic urges and considering his actions. Angel, however, was always slash and feed, however inventively. So - long winded response, but thank you.

One of the problems with the concept of sacrifice is that, in general, it's not compatible with justice. If anything, as of the last few chapters this story is about sacrificing justice. And for what? For obedience to Power. This should give everyone pause for a few moments, and give anyone concerned with justice a sick feeling inside. At the beginning, I loved this story. But more and more it looks like the bad guy won't get the comeuppance I've been anticipating for more than a dozen chapters. I don't like this story anymore.
Sorry you feel that way Richard. And I'm not going to give the ending away just yet. Suffice to say that I have plans for all of the characters that may not be apparent so far. Thank you for taking the time to read and review in the past, and I wish you well in your search for stories that fit in with your definition of justice.

WOW Deb! I've missed the last few chaps and just now caught up. What action! Having Cordy back into the mix to trade barbs with Spike is great. The Faith/Buffy tangle during the Angel/Spike battle was great. But Buffy has always been stronger than Faith; however, given the stress and the Faith's motive, I guess I could see Faith overpowering her for a bit. Still... the lesson we learn here kiddies... don't fuck with Willow! oh and Harmony (from 2 chaps ago) is still a doofus.

A couple of great lines in this chapter. "Well bake me, frost me, and top me with a cherry! The divine Miss C is returned to hearth and home" This cracked me up. That was just so Lorne. I love Lorne. I'm worried now. The Scoobies and the Angel team don't seem to get it that they don't have so much time now. Angel knows about them and is ready to have his mystics or demons or whatever kill Spike soon. I don't see why the PTB think they have to save Angelus again. It's getting tiresome. More story please.
Well the PTB are laws unto themselves. Not sure myself what Angel has that keeps getting him off the hook - but my muse wants it that way so who am I to argue? Next chapter with Lou so will be up as soon as it comes back. Thanks.

No, you have GOT to be kidding me! Xander wouldnt be THAT stupid would he? Come on now! Love the story by the way, just finished reading all 17 chapters and I have to say its pretty awsome. I love how Spike and Buffy mated, and how you are taking what happened during season five of Angel and making it totally better. Update soon!
Well, Xander isn't playing with a full deck right now. Hopefully the next chapter will explain that. Yeah; he's the nearest she has to a father and really, for the bulk of her adult life she's been able to just know he'd be there to catch her. I always wanted to restore that relationship - so I have! And I love Buffy; I know she treated Spike badly but it takes two to tango and in my mind I believe they would have worked it out. I know this is supposed to be angsty, and it is, but I'm LOL over that crack about Swedish drama. That stuff just gags me. Enjoying the miserable Angel. He deserves it for being such a jerk.
Thanks for getting that bit! I remember watching "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure" where they have to play games with Death and it's like an Ingmar Bergman flick but parodied - cracks me up! Miserable Angel seems to be quite the hit. Thanks again!

Thank you. I think I wrote this just after I'd met David Boreanaz at the Halloween con in London - and he was just such a babe with a great sense of fun it was hard to write Angel as uncaring. I'm so glad you're enjoying, thank you.

Heartbreakers SD. Isn't it nice that Giles sticks up for Spike now that he's dead and after he arranged that little ambush with Robin.
Well, I want Buffy to be happy, so to make her world all fluffy and nice she'd have to have Giles back in the camp. And she wouldn't have him unless he was good to Spike. I've indulged myself therefore. Thanks for the review.
