Great story. I started reading it tonight and could not stop. I love the friendship between Jenny and Spike, and the faith she consistently gives to him. It’s great how you are having Jenny show Giles to look at what's in front of him and not just believe what he reads.

I am glad that Buffy gave him a chance to tell some of his story, she sure gave Angel enough chances, even after he turned into Angelus! I really like how Jenny and Giles are on the same page now and that Jenny pointed out to him that Angel(us) is more of a threat to Buffy then Spike would ever be! I can't wait for the next update!

good chapter, i think you misunderstood me with my last review; i didn't mean to imply him killing giles and angel , just to defeat them in combat. More specifacly angel, since that would be an awesome fight. As for giles i also didn't mean killing him just putting him in his place, since almost in every chapter he's threatning to dust spike. Like in "prophecy girl" were he was considering of trying to go and dust the master. I mean come on, the loser watcher thinks he can take on master vampires? Get real giles. seeya
No, no...I understood (and even agree that Spike is quite formidible!!). The timing for a face off wasn't in Spike's best interests is all. Spike is quite smart in spite of what Angel is always saying after all G. Giles knows about the chip (thanks to Spike's honesty) but not that it doesn't work with the Gem on. Just like on the show, he gets pretty "gutsy" threatening the chipped vampire! ITA about the match up not even being close with a Watcher and Master Vampire. Poor Giles usually just gets knocked unconscious at the best or tied up and tortured at the worst. It's the Ripper in him, I think. Thanks again (no offense was taken either!) K

Poor Spike! Glad he's not giving up, though. Buffy's future needs his protection, whether she likes him or not. I love the old Victorian meanings for flowers. Imagine what that would have been like when someone brought you a bouquet, and everyone knew what they meant to say. A boy could speak with the flowers what he was too shy to do with words. It's so romantic.
I found a great site online with the flowers and their meaning. For Spike to say what he wanted to would have involved some tree limbs and assorted weird combinations....I think it was great but a real challenge for the giver! Thanks...K

Spike REALLY needs to do something to perminently tether that gem to him, especially now the Angel knows about it. Advertising something like that was a HUGELY stupid move. The smart thing to do is to create a duplicate, fake ring and wear that while the real one is safe and secure inside his body, bound both physically and magically.
Yes Angel will not want Spike to have the ring that's for sure. Right now Buffy has it safe. His only interest was in protecting Buffy now that she was a vampire even if she changed back to human. Thanks. K

good chapter, my only complaint is the way you portray spike as a wussy vampire, the dude can take care of angel and giles. He's not a weak puppy fledgling. A master vampire who is one of the most skilled naturel born fighters.
Thank you. I don't see him as wussy ever and I agree with your assessment of a master vampire and their skills. Angel would, being a master vampire himself, be a challenge but indeed Spike was always formidable. In this story his objective is to win the love of Buffy and the regard of her circle of friends. This is better done in ways other than taking out her Watcher (although Angel may be on thin ice before it's all over). He's thinking not just going in with fists and fangs. It's not fear just a decision on what behavior is most likely to gain his goal. Again thanks, K

I really love this story. I think it is fun to watch the interaction between Spike and everyone else. jenni is a great character in this, and angel is the ultimate jerk. He was always going for the solution that worked best for him and the last thing he would want is to actually take responsibility to induce her to stop feeding off of people (and I think he could have done it since Dru would do anything for her daddy and he had conditioned her to obey him). I intended that Dru was dusted there could be many reasons Spike didn't feel it including the fact that he comes from a different time where there was already a distance between them or his distraction with all the things happening in SUnnydale. Great chapter. It's nice to see a pre-angst Buffy in a nice relationship. It sure was satisfying when Spike punched Angel; I never liked Angel's overbearing attitude and you really amped it up for this fic. Can't wait to see how the dinner goes with Buffy, Spike & Joyce. Wonder how Joyce will like Spike in this context and how Buffy will react to Spike's info. Hope Angel doesn't try to screw it up, since he knows Spike's plan.

That was another brilliant chapter. Jenny as a thoughtful sounding board and Giles promising to withhold judgement. And the bit about "his Buffy universal translator" with Spike. Quite lovely, not to mention the bit about the talent show performance, convincing the world it was experimental theatre so that no one knew how much they sucked. Amazing.

I really like how Spike isn't letting Angel pull his "it wasn't me it was Angelus" crap. I always thought that Angel was never a champion - EVERYTHING he did was self-serving in at least some way - it was always for some sort of reward for him - first Buffy then his Shansu. The only reason Angel pulled himself out of those rat-filled gutters was because he got it in his head that Buffy was some kind of reward for him like you said. He certainly acted like it. I never got the whole Buffy/Angel deal. I mainly have to say EEEEEWWWW!!!! Buffy was only 15 at that time when Angel first saw her and "fell in love" with her!!!! That's ninth grade, freshman year of high school. EW EW EW EW EW!!! God, that is just plain sick in my book - What the hell was Whedon thinking!? It makes me wonder what all Angel must have done to that gyspy girl before he killed her to get them to curse him when they didn't do anything to Darla, Dru, and Spike for wiping out a good portion of their clan. And Angel was supposed to this "champion" to look up to? I REALLY hate Angel.
I started to like Angel on his own show but never, ever "got" him as a love interest for Buffy. Like you said eeewwww, especially the scene with the lollipop (could it be more of a turn on for a pedophile?). Then again Angelus' big thing was taking innocence...hence, dru, the nuns, the gypsy girl and....I think... Buffy. I think the "perfect happiness" Angel felt wasn't just sex or sex with one he loved, but sex with the ulitmate symbol of good...the Slayer...her innocence. Thanks. Kathleen

It always seemed like Angel was only helping for some kind of reward . First Buffy , then the Shanshu. The period between leaving Buffy and the Shanshu was very small especially when you consider that he never really let go of Buffy.
I think you are right. I suspected his taking on the Black Thorn was his way of forcing the big apocolypse so he'd get that reward...I mean why would he think he could sign it away? He had his selfless moments (on his own show) but yes, the reward mattered. K

Time travel is always tricky and I really don't have an answer. I'm playing it like he sort of replaced the one in S1 by going back. Quantum physics (String theory variety) would say he created an alternate universe in changing timeperiods but I don't know how it would explain it...possibly SPike's essence entering his S1 body (but then the chip wouldn't have returned with him and I wanted it, at least at first...so poetic license LOL). I really like how Spike's gotten his rocks back. I just got one thing - the chip supposedly works by causing blinding pain, which, by the way, is total crap considering there are no pain receptors in the brain itself like there are in the rest of the body (Biology/Science major here). Anyway, pain is how the body informs the brain that damage has been or is being incurred (which again brain damage isn't felt like that, it's more dizziness and losses of control - actual headaches and migraines are results of things like sensory overload, pressure on the brain or chemical imbalences). Even keeping with the screwed up fiction, since the gem causes Spike to be invincible and immediately and fully heal any and all damage, wouldn't the gem negate the chip's effects just like stakes to the heart don't even phase Spike? Along those lines, Spike could get the chip out and not need to worry about any possible brain damage cause it would be immediately fixed. Don't even get me started on the fact that the microchip would never be cost effective for use and could never house a power source powerful enough to have those effects or large enough to last like it did in the show. Common sense and a broad range of knowlege absolutely suck when I keep running into nonsense like this on TV cause it just get so freaking annoying - these people get paid craploads of cash to write these things and they can't take an hour or so to talk to someone in these fields and come up with something at least plausible or, in this case, at least they could do is say that Spike was cursed or something instead of promoting misinformation that, first glance, seems to be based on fact. Yes, I realize I'm bitching but I've run into WAY too many people, who wrongly believe these kind of things cause it was portrayed as just another everyday fact on TV. Would you like the future brain surgeons and scientists you run into learn the fact right off or learn the fiction first and then have to be corrected and taught the fact, hoping they never get the two mixed up? Scary thought isn't it?

Thanks! I do think that Giles at this time period was more flexible than he was after the betrayal of Angel/Angelus. I think Jenny being killed really preyed on him. He felt that he had been too accepting of Angel and not cautious enough. This Giles hasn't reached that place though, he's still like the one that gave Angel the benefit of a doubt. I really like Spike with younger less jaded versions of Buffy. And let me just say THANK YOU for how you're not just dropping the issue of Xander attacking Buffy like they did on the show - that REALLY bugged me when I saw the end of that episode. Then, at the end of S6 when Spike attacked Buffy, they never mentioned Xander's VERY similiar attack on her. Hell, Xander was the one who was oh so glad to tell everyone about it, conviently leaving out that he imself had tried to rape Buffy before, except he didn't stop on his own - Buffy had to force him to stop by knocking him out. What's wrong with this picture? - Holy and self-righteous human Xander WITH A SOUL is immediately forgiven and all forgotten even though the possession merely magnified what was ALREADY there! Meanwhile, Spike, WITHOUT A SOUL, stopped when he realised what was happening. The person who stopped was condemned while the one who blatently refused to stop was immediately forgiven and all forgotten!? NEWSFLASH: Rapists don't stop when the victim fights back, those sick bastards get off on it. If the victim kicks them off, then they just try harder and don't stop unless they are forced to stop. Nobody seemed to mind or care that Xander would have raped Buffy had she not been able to stop him. That's it for my ranting - I just REALLY HATE it when crimes as serious as rape are trivalized or just dropped like they did on the show.
Yeah...it's a hot button issue with me to and I couldn't have put it better than you did! Another thing was Spike's ability to control his demon as opposed to ....say ... Angel. In "Angel" all it took was one kiss and he vamped out! When Buffy wanted Angel to feed from her to savehis life she wacked him 3 times and boom he nearly drained her! Spike was rarely in game face (and certainly not with a kiss!) and she nearly beat him to death in that alley and he never raised a fist let alone took a nip! Lots of double standards drove me crazy (and don't even get me started on Anya and her complete lack of remorse and even bragging about the vengeance spells in her demon past and all Xander did was get grossed out on the details!). Leave it to Xander to be an ass yet again. Cute to see the Buffy and Spike interaction when she doesn't know who he is. Oh how things would hvae been different if they had met under different circumstances than the show. I love it.
If they had met before Buffy hardened her heart (and the scoobies were devastated by Angelus) they might have had aan easy time IMHO. Thanks. K

Heh this is so cool. I love the way that Buffy's all into Spike and Spike's all into second guessing the fact that he's into her too. It's a total reversal on what we became accustomed to on BtVS. And even knowing this piece is located in seasons 4 & 1, looking at it with eyes informed by how the rest of the series panned out made Spike's reaction to Xander's attempted rape of Buffy seem a little...oh I don't know, ironic maybe. One could be tempted to say hypocritical but then realise that of course they can't say that because it's a season 4 fic. I so LOVE IT when a fic makes me debate what I can and cannot reasonably feel in response to it, LOL! More soon please 8-)

You know, I think that in the first place until SR, Spike would NEVER have imagined himself doing what he did to Buffy (knowing he was in love with her at least) and I think Spike after SR would have thought many of those same things he does in this story only applied to himself. Girl, for a first season story, this is an awesome one! Can't wait to see where you take it from here...I love this Spike, already half in love with the Slayer and entranced by younger Buffy...maybe they could make it together in the end, but I fear that Angel will make an appearance and put the putz to it...can't wait to read the next chappie, and keep these stories coming...hugs you for a fine beginning!
Thank you! Yes undamaged Buffy would have been head over heels for a guy like Spike. He was gorgeous, sexy, loved a good brawl and most of all he was a long haul guy who appreciated ALL of her. That's the Buffy Spike is meeting for the first time in this story. He was already smitten before he was sent back to S1 and can't stop the rest of the fall since she's not a hard hearted bitca towards him! I'm gonna deal with the gread brooder in the next chapter (hoping for today....maybe tomorrow depends on my Beta's work schedule). Thanks and hugs you right back. K
