I've enjoyed this story, which was well written and well crafted. In the end, I'm sad for Buffy, that she lost all hope and gave up on life. I'm sad, too, for Joyce, who will live forever with unbelievable pain.

I was reading evryone else's reviews after I posted mine, and I also think that an epilogue would be great. Maybe her funeral, how everyone reacts to her death, how they deal and try to move on.

Hmm maybe you should name this story...when interventions fuck things up more than they already are....I really think that you got that part right...the judgemental things with the way the scoobies always tried to tell her what was right and wrong with her personal life could probably make her comit suicide if she was already depressed as she was in this story....the feeling of being completly alone...however I would probably think that she would have done "suicide by demon/vampire". As I already started a nice epi or another chapter with all the reactions after her suicide would have been nice....I can just see all the guilt and the blaming that would go around.

I must admit that you had me sobbing with this chapter. Buffy’s actions made it start, but what really did it was Spike, who by this time wanted nothing more then to save her, and who could no longer get to her. She was so lost, in so much pain that she couldn’t ever see any other way to free herself. I really should have seen this coming, it was so true to your story and everyone’s reactions to her when they found out about Spike would have had to be so completely different for there to be even the possibility of a different outcome. This whole story has been very beautifully written and in this chapter you did another fantastic job.

I was truly all ready to blast away for not putting the character death into the summary. But, I probably wouldn't have read the ending. I'm usually about the fluffy/spuffy. I've read and loved this story from the beginning. The ending was beautifully written and obviously well thought out. You stayed true to the story. Thank you for an exceptional story.

sniff Sad but brilliant ending! I am glad you didn't put a character death warning on... it really would have ruined the ending. I feel so sorry for Spike I think in his own way he really did love her and to watch her die and be unable to even go to her would have been so hard for him. Fabulous angsty story, thank you!

I’ve followed this from Chp 1 and loved it all the way. You write beautifully. I wasn’t sure how you were going to end it, although must admit I never suspected this. I’ll go away and have a good think about it. At present it worries me because basically she gives in and that’s not what she or anyone should do.

Whoa! You are going to get blasted for not warning, I'll bet. But it really is good that you didn't give it away - and in retrospect, there was nothing happy or even particularly hopeful about the story, so you did set it up so well that there shouldn't be too much shock. I was surprised, but found myself nodding my head as I realized there was going to be no last-minute saving of the Slayer. Very well done.

Bravo! A shock but in keeping with the tone of the story from the beginning. Happiness seemed fleeting for poor Buffy and all too easily shattered by reality. Strangely I think that Spike would truly have made the effort if he'd thought she would do this. How else could he be so devastated at the end? A brave choice and I salute you. Thanks for the ride. Next ne a little more upbeat maybe? hugs

sobs Ok, so didn't need the downer ending, was actually trying to get cheered up today. sighs Maybe a slight angst warning in an authors note for this chapter won't give it away? Because I would have stayed FAR FAR away from anything resembling angst. Great fic though, I definitely enjoyed the ride!

Beautiful, ity fit the tone of the story so well. Anyother ending would have cheapned the impact of the story. It was brutal, it was painful, but in the end it rang true.
I'm glad it did. I really wanted to be true to these characters in this context and in my mind it couldn't really end any other way. Thanks for reading and reviewing.

You're setting yourself up for this one. But, I thought it was a logical conclusion to this story. It was full of angst, and to suddenly end on a high note of fluff didn't seem quite true. (But, there's nothing to say you can't do an alternate "fluffy" ending... LOL.) Great job!

Well Giles and Xander's response was not unexpected. Spike and Buffy's confrontation was so emotion-charged. Spike coming clean was the right thing to do and, as expected, it has hurt them both... looking forward to the next chap to see how (or if) they can get past it. I must say I will be sad to see this story end... I have really enjoyed it.

This is a very powerful story and it shows great insight into the characters. Although you set up a new situation the characters stayed true to who they are. I loved in this chapter that Buffy faced her greatest fear, rejection of her friends, and found the power to choose herself. Thanks for a great story.

Well...didn't expect Joyce to be so hard on her...that was definitely an uncomfortable meeting. And now she's on her way to Spike...probably...or he'll find her first, since he probably didn't go too far from the house, watching over her and such. Very well put, "I choose me". Wheeeee! What a ride that turned out to be! Got to say... it's a sure-fire way to get it all out into the open! Always look forward to a new chapter of this one. Jeremiah is a truly unique idea for a character, and you've used him well in creating interest for the plot. I also like the complexity you've used with Buffy's trust of Spike. She's almost made herself trust him because she needs him so much. It's well done. Finally, I like the fact that he's still not worthy of it. And he knows it.

I just read all the story up to now. I like it very much. It´s different from the others. With a scarred Buffy and a Spike that still kills. (Hopefully he´ll stop soon) I´m very curious of who this Jeremiah is... Please update soon.

Aww! Scrummy update and I so loving it! Love seeing Buffy starting to get into life again - and seeing her POV was good. Would love to have another peek into Spike's thoughts and motivations right now - never can rummage in that guy's mind enough! And them being watched? Have several thoughts on that - probably wildly wrong - so will keep to self! LOL Will be languishing in an unfulfilled manner until the next post. Thank you so much.

Fantastic update. I liked seeing Spike feelings about how he's treating Buffy in this. At first I didn't like the bit when Spike killed the other girl, then I came to think that it was much more realistic that way, I'm sure it will lead to more angst. Will we see any more of Jer?

The intervention felt just like old times in Sunnydale whenever Buffy didn't seem to be conforming in the image that the Scoobies felt she should. and I don't think that Spike is quite ready for the conforming either. I stopped reading this story twice after only 3 chapters because it was a little hard to take and kind of graphic with the burn situation. But, then I told myself to stop being a wuss and give it another try. I am glad I did. This story is very interesting. I love Big Bad Spike way better than that other guy! Looking forward to the rest of the story.
I'm glad you conquered your inner wuss! I try to add a sense of realism to these things and not just try to shock. Although I do love to shock too. Thanks for reading!

Yeah, I think it's important that she be aware of the fact that "demon" doesn't necessarily mean "utter evil". I mean, just look at Clem!

God dammit Buffy, your friends care about you! I like that Xander tried. And so did Joyce. But Buffy wouldn’t have a bar of it. I wonder if and when the gang will find out about Spike, and if they’ll still have their meeting even without the slayer.

Interesting twist on Buffyverse. Am impressed with the excellent characterization of unchipped Spike. Buffy really is in a dark space within the fic. Hope seems a very fragile for her. I'm rooting for her to overcome her pain. Great heat generated between the two when they get together. Impressive fic...also appreciate the warnings at the sections that are particularly tough (I'm skipping a little through those). Looking forward to additional updates.
Yeah, she's having a hard time of it and that really appeals to me! heh. From a writing standpoint only, of course. I will continue to warn if the chapters get nastier

Definitely one twisted story. Very dark. Well written though. I don't read this one always as soon as you have an update (at SR or here) because I need to be in a certain frame of mind to handle certain subjects. I am interested in seeing where you go next with this one.

This is the third time one of my reviews has taken some ecstasy... I don't know. Anyway... “You can't just screw a guy, then threaten to kill him, break up with him, and then steal his clothes. That has to be my all time favourite line ever! I love this chapter! He's so nasty, yet sweet. I think that Spike's ability to be nice while being bad is one his best attributes ;) I can't even pick out the paragraphs I like best cause this whole chapter was sooooo good. More please!!!

Just stayed up waaay too late catching up with this story. I love it! Reminding us that Spike was still an evil vampire when he cameback to Sunnydale - even if he is harboring feelings he doesn't want to admit for the Slayer, it hasn't changed his basic nature. And excellent job of portraying an unfeeling, uncaring Buffy years before the events of the show made her so.Will be anxiously watching for an update.

I was wondering if they’d tried magic, it’s a shame it didn’t work at all. And WOW was Spike bold in this chapter! Appearing in her room, basically undressing her, massaging the gel into her skin and then showing her just how touching her affected him… just awesome. Great chapter.

Another trap. sighs Buffy’s right, Spike’s all with the lazy and getting his minions to do the dirty work for him. I really liked that you didn’t have Buffy be all super-girl and fight them off without getting injured at all. It was very believable.

OMG, I had tears in my eyes! I can’t believe I’ve only just got around to reading this fic now! The description from Xander’s point of view was a fantastic opener and really set the scene well. The ordeal Buffy went through at the hospital was horrible.  I’m hoping more about why she isn’t healing despite her Slayer-powers is explained in further chapters.

I just have to say how much I love this story! Very well written, and it has a great premise. This fic may be angsty and dark, but the story has me intrigued. Buffy's insecurities and the whole story with how she sustained her burns is just heartwrenching, and the characterization of your 'big bad', pre-soul, unchipped Spike is spot on. (Oh, and did I mention the smut is HOT?!) Anyway, I'm done gushing now. Great job, and can't wait to read more!
Thanks!! I've never really written an "evil" Spike before, so I was somewhat nervous of going too far in either direction, there - making him too evil or too good. Buffy being insecure about her body, and it affecting her whole demeanor has been something I've wanted to write for a while now, and the smut had to follow of course
