Awwww... I love the Spuffiness... and this particular line was so perfect...
She was determined to be Supporto-Girlfriend and not a) embarrass him by being so horrible at it he wouldn't want her on the waves at the same time he was and b) out do him to the point where he felt the same as a).
Very realistic, isn't that every girl's dilemma, even if it isn't surfing? LOL 
Still adoring your story please don't end it anytime soon!!
