| That has to be so hard on Giles knowing what his slayer has been through. Yup, Joyce should help, but that too will be hard on Buffy. Good that she heard them talking and now she knows exactly how he feels. Another amazing chapter. |
Thank you, you are making me all kinds of happy with your reviews |

| She heard him? I wonder if she 'heard' him? |
Maybe...guess you'll just have to kep reading to find out |

| I think telling Joyce is a wonderful idea, it could only help, in my opinion. I fee so bad for Spike, he just wants to be accepted! |
I accept him...but I don't count! |

| Wow, I loved Spike speech to Giles at the end of the chapter. Put tears in my eyes. Sorry, I just started reading this story. It's really good so far. I love Penny for your thoughts so much that I needed to read more of your work. You're a very good writer. |
Thank you so much...you just made my day |

First, I have to say that I love all your stories. I'm more prone to lurk, but I do enjoy reading your stuff. I love how you bring up points that aren't often brought up and I like how you deal with them.
One thing that does kind of bother me, though--and granted, I've never actually watched the show, so all I know is what I read or what friends describe to me--is that Buffy and the Scoobies never really get the blame for anything. But in the second to last paragraph, even Spike didn't blame them for their actions. While placing all the blame solely on Angelus is a very nice thought and one I'd very much like to agree with, *he* didn't force them to treat Spike the way they did. He didn't tell them to treat Spike like garbage and basically kick him around and all. They chose to act that way on their own. They chose not to see past what Angelus did and look at Spike as a completely different individual and it's even more sad that Spike apparently shares those thoughts.
Anyway, I look forward to the next updates and though I might not respond, I am always reading and loving how the storylines play out. Keep up the splendid work. |
| Thank you...I too believe that the scoobies need to be held responsible for their actions...I try to get some of it across...but it takes time...Thank you for your kind words. |

| Great chapter. I am glad that Giles will tell Joyce about Buffy. The last paragraphs were really great. I am glad that for once someone asked Spike how he was and that he actually told them how he felt. I hope things will be different for Spike now. |
| so do I Bridget, so do I! |

| Wow, what a wonderful chapter. I loved how Giles noticed Spike, not just realized that he was there, but saw how much he wanted to help Buffy. And telling Joyce, I never really understood why they didn't want her to know. And Spike's explanation of where he's at was brutal but beautiful. And the fact that Buffy seems to have overheard was perfect. |
| Thank you...I appreciate your words |

| Poor Spike!!! Well they've already completely screwed up the timeline, lol. Maybe Buffy's easedropping will help her see what a bitca she and all the scoobies have been to Spike. |
we can live in hope! |

| excellant chapter sweetie! |

| Ok, now we know that Buffy was listening but will she actually accept what she heard and deal with it or just do her usuall deny, deny, deny? I am glad that Spike got some of his feelings out and that someone actually listened to him! I can't wait to see what happens next! |
| egypt is really nice place to go swimming! lol |

| Great chapter, and very promising history. I hope you update soon. Iīm glad Buffy heard what Spike said. Letīs see how she reacts. Please update soon. |
| I'm still wondering about that reaction myself! lol |

| Fantastic chapter. I really like how you made Giles' transformation. |
| Was it a transformation? Or was the Giles we saw just a man damaged by trusting the wrong people? |
| Max | 03/17/2006 11:23 pm |
| I'm glad Buffy overheard all that - I want Spike to stay in the past too, he'd not only get the gem but would be able to live his worst years over again and be able to forget all the humiliations he's suffered. |
| Spike staying would have a profound effect on everyone. |

I really liked how you've written Spike's character here - You did a very nice job of portraying his mentality on how he's changing despite the Scoobies discouragement. Good job on pointing out how much psychological damage Angel has done to all the Scoobies, especially Buffy.
After hearing that conversation I hope Buffy finally wakes up and see the truth about Spike and her "oh so perfect soulmate" Angel (the damn pedophile "fell in love" with her when she was FIFTEEN). Buffy was young, naive, and innocent before Angel came along and basically ruined her emotionally. I've been privy to the best and worst humanity has to offer and I don't buy the whole "Angel vs. Angelus" thing for a minute - becoming a vampire just released the darkness that was already in Liam. Hell, he did more damage to her while he was souled than he ever did when he wasn't. Ask yourself this, Darla, Dru, and Spike massacred dozens of those gypsies but no gypsies or curses after them - so, what do you think Angelus did to that young FEMALE before he killed her to warrant them cursing him like they did, considering she was just a year or two younger than Buffy when he "fell in love" with her.
I HATED how abominably she treated Spike in S6 onward, what was worse was that Whedon portrayed that blatent mental and physical abuse as perfectly okay but was quick to condemn Spike for every little thing he did up to the "attempted rape" in the bathroom scene (I have it in quotes because I majored in psychology and am now working in that field, yes it was horrible what happened to Buffy, but nowhere near how bad it would have been if he had really been trying to rape her. Real rapists don't stop when the woman fights back, they get off on that very thing and then try that much harder; nor do rapists run off horrified with themselves when they realize the woman is unwilling and then go halfway across the planet to endure literal torture to ensure that they never hurt that person again. There is a HUGE difference a real-life rapist and a lovesick vampire who's inevitably snapped after YEARS of mental and physical use and abuse and continued the pre-established behavioral pattern of "No" meaning "Yes," not immediately realizing that Buffy was not just "play-fighing" like she had been doing for the months before-hand. Those types of relationships are extremely dangerous for that very reason.) It really pissed me off how everyone immediately forgave and forgot when Xander tried to really rape Buffy while he was merely influenced by something that brought out his pre-existing darker side. Xander, with his soul, despite Buffy's clear unwillingness, would have raped her had she not been physically able to successfully fight him off and render him unconscious - but it was all okay because Xander didn't have complete control of himself and claimed he did not remember what he did. Last time I checked, people who are drunk of under the influence of drugs are still held accountably for their actions.
If anyone's wondering why I wrote all this - I had a VERY disturbing conversation earlier this week while watching old DVD episodes with someone who didn't know I didn't want to watch one of the many scenes in which blatent domestic abuse was portayed as alright behavior. I actually had to explain why I was against the beating of a defenseless person regardless of who or what they are.
You'd be suprised how many people don't see all of these things on the show for what they really are because it was portayed as perfectly fine and normal on the show. Scary thought, isn't it? I would love to have a LONG conversation with Whedon about some of the stuff on his shows. |
| I find myself almost speechless...almost! I have to say I agree wholeheartedly with this, the way Xander was allowed to comment on Spikes behaviour, despite his own and the fact that with a soul spike was not automatically 'forgiven' for all his actions pre-soul, a soul I might add he fought for rather than was cursed with while Angel was forgiven for Jenny's murder have always been sore points for me. |
| kim | 03/17/2006 10:34 pm |
Ho, ho! She heard the conversation, or at least the last part...maybe now she'll get what Spike's been trying to show her for so long? That she's being totally unreasonable toward him most of the time? She trusted him with Dawn, and before the fight with Glory. It's just ridiculous that she's treating him like scum after a kiss or two, that SHE willingly initiated/participated in.
This Giles is great so far! |
| Jenny's loss affected Giles in more than just one way. |
| TammyDevil666 | 03/17/2006 09:32 pm |
| Good, I hope she heard all of that. Buffy needs to know what she and all of her friends are doing to him when he's only trying to help. I'm glad he opened up to Giles. I like the older days better, they all had more trust back then. Stupid Angelus. Anyway, I'm liking this story. I'm interested to see how things would go with Joyce. More please=) |
| Joyce is one of my favorite characters!... She always hated Angel. |
| vladt | 03/17/2006 08:59 pm |

| I'm glad that Spike decided to open up to Giles, looks like the beginning of a interesting friendship. I love that nosey Buffy heard their conversation, can't wait to find where things go from here. Wonderful chapter! |
| Looks like...Can't really blame Buffy though..I wouldn't have wanted to interupt either. |
| Karyn | 03/17/2006 08:46 pm |
| ohhh, very nice jack! that's what you get for listening into other peoples conversations...hearing things you might not want to...lol |
