Ahh, yes. That backwards, primitive throwback attitude so common in troglodytes and petty fascists. This would be Xander's egregious violation of common human decency in "protecting" his "tribe" against attacks by an "outsider". Beating on the helpless in defense of a Slayer!
And that doesn't even go into Xander's quite disgusting lack of empathy and sympathy for Anya, his nominal girlfriend but in reality cheap whore.
I salute your sharp acumen and insight. Most fans of the show prefer the head in sand option. They don't want to think S6 wasn't an anomaly but that every season is ugly in its own inimitable way. BTVS is about pretty ugliness, like those beautiful photos of stark poverty. |
| i agree, xander's bigotry always bothered me very much, especially in the way it affected his treatment of his girlfriend/fiance...and throughout the whole show there was a gradual opening of buffy's eyes...never really completed...to the idea that her black and white (bigoted) views were maybe not quite accurate... here, her treatment of spike is disturbing...but make no mistake that it is *intended* to be...thanx for a thoughtful review |

ooo lovely! You know, remembering how nasty a tease Buffy was in S4 to Spike (and how cruel she was after Something Blue) I rather like Spike getting in some damage.
