He was such a mixture of human and vampire. I know some people were upset in Season 7 because Spike wasn't hugely changed with the soul. I always took that as a compliment ... it showed that Spike had more humanity in him without a soul than Angel did with one. You write those aspects of Spike well in this Season 5 fic.
