Happy Early Birthday C

From the Time Tossed verse preseries

Betaed by Spikeslovebite aka Tam

This was his son. If the boy hadn't looked just like him it would have still been obvious by his demeanor. Poor boy was as much love's bitch as his dad. Spike entered the room in silence, watching his boy's shoulders shake with the force of his tears. ‘How do you do this?’ he wondered silently. ‘How do you help your twelve year old son recover from his very first heartache?’

Not like his mum or his irate twin that was sure; bloody Joy had nearly put the poor, arrogant, holier-than-thou twit in intensive care, and Spike's dear wife was currently setting up things to send the heartless little chit home to Atlanta. Oh, yeah, and not like Aunties Faith and Willow; those two were looking up curses in the council library. None of them understood the true problem. William- like his dad- felt second best. Spike was married to the most beautiful woman he had ever met, but still felt less than good enough for her.

"You're a good man, son," Spike told his only male child. "Better than your Papa. You're a good man and a good poet."

"You wouldn't ‘ve took it." Will's voice was thick with emotion, tears running down his tragic young face. "If she’d told you that you were beneath her, you woulda slapped her."

"Oh, bloody hell." Spike actually barked a quick laugh through his own tears. "You know who the last woman was that told me I was beneath her?"

William shook his head, wet eyes wide with disbelief. He couldn’t picture anyone talking to his papa that way and coming away unscathed.

"Was your bloody mum, the daft chit." Spike gazed at his disbelieving son. "Knew I loved her already, but your mum… Your mum can be as thick as two planks, sometimes. She needed a year or three to figure out she loved me. She said it, and I folded up right there in that alley and cried like a right poofter. Went home to get a shotgun and was gonna bloody kill her."

"What happened?" William asked, fascinated in spite of his own misery. He and Joy loved to hear about their parents’ life before they came along.

"Your mum found out that night that your Nana Joyce had a tumor and was sitting on the back porch, crying her eyes out,” Spike told the boy. "I saw her crying and like a right ponce forgot all about trying to kill her."

"But, I'm not you, Papa,” William lamented. "You're the Big Bad and I'm just a poet."

Spike reached into his pocket and pulled out a pair of railroad spikes- one shiny and new, the other old and rusty. "You know what these are, mate?"

"They're you," William answered. "They're your symbol."

"Ahhh, not quite son." Spike held up the old one. "This one is me; made of wrought iron, old, and rusty. Effective in a fight, but not much use any other way."

He held up the new one. "This one is nickel plated titanium steel. Light weight, more durable than the older model, and you can use it in a fight or you can use it as anything else you want. This one's you. See, you’re all the things I've always wanted to be, but can’t. You're a better man than me, just because of who you are. Never let them fool you, Will. Your old Papa isn't that good a man, but you can be and are. I watch you and wonder how the powers could have blessed me with a son like you."

Spike laid the two pieces of metal on the bed beside his son and rested a hand on William’s tangled, honey colored curls. “You’re a good man, William. One of the best I’ve ever known.”

William sat silently as his Papa left the room.

Buffy was standing outside Will's room as Spike left. She followed her husband with tears in her eyes till they were out of earshot.

"No, Will's papa is the best man I've ever known,” she said as she enfolded her mate in a hug.

He sat alone, hidden in the corner, praying. Was he ready? Could he do this? He had to. He couldn't live in his sister’s shadow, couldn’t keep hiding behind his mum's skirts. Looking down at the weapon in his hand, he knew this was what he needed. His demon roared approval within his breast. This one must be taught respect. He was the only one ever born a Master of the Order of Aurelius. A living, breathing Aurelian /Slayer hybrid demon, he was far more than any outside his inner circle had ever guessed.

He had refused to train with Antoinette before because he had not wanted to embarrass her. Fighting was her sport, he hadn't wanted to take that from her, but now... Her bloody arse was fair game.

William the ‘Dowdy’ stood, dressed in light blue fatigue pants, black t-shirt and black combat boots. He stepped into the shadows and slid to the room three floors lower, to the training/danger room.

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Spike felt it when his son faded into the shadows behind Faith as she stood in front of the entire triple class of young Slayers. The father in him wanted to rush out there and defend his son from this, but the sire in him screamed for retribution by his childe’s hands. None here, save their mother, could ever truly understand the connection he had to his children. They were both his children and his childer, and if certain people thought William was a protective father, they had no idea of the lengths Spike would go to protect his childer.

The boy had let his demon out and Spike felt like roaring his approval. The youngest ever Master of the Order was here to exact his rightful revenge. A quick glance at his other two children showed that their demons were roused as well. Little Erin's eyes were flashing back and forth from green to gold, while Joy's were a stunning electric green. He saw his mate staring at him over their children's head. She shook her beautiful golden head teasingly. 'You're bad!' her voice echoed inside his head.

'Always been bad, luv,’ he sent back.

"Ms Antoinette?" Faith said casually, oblivious to their exchange. "You’ve missed a lot of class lately."

"I was blatantly attacked, Mrs. Harris." Toni answered refusing to look at the Summer/Kenticott women. "By a band of hooligan's wearing ski masks and carrying tasers,” she repeated the story she had told the police and her friends.

"Yeah, one hooligan and the taser was left hook,” Joy whispered loudly.

"Joy?" Faith asked, her face a study in mock seriousness. "Are you admitting to assaulting a fellow student?"

"Of course she’s not!" Rhona defended from behind the teen. "She was just assuming that as awkward and unskilled as Toni is, it's doubtful that it took much to hurt her."

Snickers echoed around the room. "Ms. Toni, we have a new student today and we were hoping you wouldn't mind training with him?" Faith suggested.

"Him?" Toni’s eyes lit up. She really liked boys, especially rough, outgoing, and cocky guys.

William sauntered out of the shadows. His demon might not be showing, but it was in full control. "I think she means me, luv."

Will's Papa 3

Toni was incensed. Who the hell did he think he was? He wasn't a man; he was only twelve years old. She fully intended to humiliate him once again. Oh, she had felt guilty after the first time, but now? Now, she might take his belt off and spank him with it. Serve him right for thinking he was equal to a slayer.

"You mean I get to spank you in front of your whole family?" Toni asked the grinning William. She heard a few snorts from behind her.

"Luv, if you can beat me, I'll give you the money to take your friends to any restaurant in town." William's smirk was pissing her off.

"William the 'Dowdy' thinks he can take a slayer?" She laughed at him. "Well 'Will'', like most women I prefer expensive... French. So I guess my friends and I eat well tonight."

"You have friends?" She heard Erin yell from behind her, but ignored her.

Toni attacked quickly with a series of Tai Kwon Do punches. Will blocked each of him. Of course, he was supposed to, but the way he was doing it pissed her off. He was almost negligent with it. She spun quickly into a spinning heel kick, but he wasn't there. And then she felt it.

*SMACK*

The freakin’ asshole had slapped her ass! Adding insult to injury, he then tripped her.

Toni hit the ground with a thud. Scrambling to her feet, her eyes glowed with anger as she charged him, a doubled fist leading the way. William slapped it away with one hand and grabbed it with the other. Twisting her body into his, he pulled her back flush with his chest and imprisoning her arms in front of her before reaching down and licking her neck.

“EWWW!” Toni squawked indignantly.

“I hope her rabies shots are up to date,” Erin snarked. Faith shushed her, fighting to hide her own smile.

"First point to 'dowdy'', Will told her with a grin. He swept her legs out from under her and skipped nimbly away.

Enraged, Toni charged him once more. Remembering the cart wheel kick Will's own mother was known for, she moved into it. Her execution was flawless, but once again she made no contact. God, he was quick! As soon as her feet were planted firmly on the floor, he popped up behind her.

*SMACK*

He smacked her hard on her butt again!

"Nice arse, luv,” he told her, keeping his voice deliberately low so the crowd couldn’t hear him. The same maddening smirk his father was renowned for curved his lips.

She didn't like that smirk!

Deciding she needed to regain control if she was going to beat him, the young slayer began the breathing exercises she had been taught in an effort to clear her mind. She was a teenager; nearly fourteen, and at the top of her class. He was only twelve. He was not cute. He was still a BOY, and she soooo wasn't attracted to him. As her mind cleared, she smirked at him and began the most complex series of moves she had yet been taught, every move was flawless and she slowly drove Will across the floor until she had him cornered. Then, her fist gripped as if she held a stake in it, she moved in for the kill.

But he wasn't there.

Once again, he seemed to materialize behind her. Another hard shove and she hit her knees before him. He knelt behind her, gripping her long hair and hauling her back to him. "Nice doggie,” he snickered and gently bit her neck.

Toni was mortified. Even at her age, she new what doggie meant when they were in THAT position. "Ohhhh! Fine! You win,” she hissed at him, her cheeks aflame.

As she stomped her way across the room to the door it seemed every Slayer there was talking about William. The things they were saying pissed her off, all of them ooh-ing and ahh-ing over his pretty face and his gorgeous smile.

"He is not a piece of meat!" she growled out at the room.

Buffy heard the young slayers and it was pissing her off as well, but when she heard Toni's words her jaw dropped and she looked over at her smirking mate.

//Luv, she doesn't remind you of Will's Mum at all, does she?//

Cooking for Dummies

"I'm sorry! I’m sorry, Amanda!" Thirteen year old Toni was in tears. Her kitchenette was now a roaring shade of blackened and only a visit from her floor 'mother' had saved her from having to call the fire department. "I owe him a meal and he loves Chinese, and I was following the directions in the cookbook,” she babbled.

Amanda was one of the most decorated slayers alive. Her first apocalypse had been the closing of the Hellmouth in Sunnydale. Since then, she had served in Cleveland as Faith's second in command, and then as part of a roving demon hunter’s squad. She had assumed- obviously mistakenly- that being a mentor for slayers in training would be a cake walk. Now it seemed her best student, Toni, was persona non gratis at the Slayer Academy. The girl had done the unthinkable… she had insulted Buffy's son.

"Who do you owe a meal to?" Amanda asked the stricken child.

"William!” Toni was very nearly blubbering. "I hurt his feelings....then I bet him I could beat him...but then he beat me and I owe him a meal....and I burnt up my kitchen."

Amanda found herself feeling sorry for the young woman. She smiled down at her and said. "Soooo, you like young Will?"

"NO,” Toni said a little too quickly, “but the other slayers- even the older ones- are trying to take advantage of him."

"Toni, believe me, his mom can protect him,” Amanda tried to reassure the sobbing teen.

"But, I'm a slayer. Slayers protect people," Toni cried. "But he loves Chinese and I can't cook Chinese."

"Toni.” Amanda suddenly had an idea that might make the senior slayers kill her. “Can you cook at all?"

"Yes," the girl answered. "Breakfast and stuff like that, like from home."

"Ok, here is what we’re gonna do. I’ll get the stuff and you can use my kitchen. I'll even get him there, but if Buffy kills us, I'll flunk you."

Toni's enthusiasm was so great that Amanda had a sinking suspicion that poor Will would never know what hit him. She smirked to herself pulling out her cell phone as she walked up the hall.

"Dawnie? Are you and Andrew alone?" she asked. "I need a favor that might get us all three killed.”

-----
The next morning in Amanda's sitting room

Will entered Amanda's apartment with trepidation. Since his session with Toni a few days ago, every slayer in training seemed to be chasing him. He had no idea what he would do if one of the faculty members started in as well. Aunt Dawn had sent him here, so he figured it must be safe.

There was no sign of Amanda, but the table was set for two. A huge, traditional Southern breakfast was laid out. Will was wondering if perhaps his Aunt Dawn had got her messages mixed up, but when he saw Toni come from the kitchen wearing an apron, he froze.

//Oh God, oh God,// he thought. //How do I face her after I humiliated her that way?//

Toni saw him freeze up and thought the worst. //He hates me!// She wanted desperately to cry.

"I know it isn't Chinese, but it was the best I could do,” she said irreverently.

"Chinese?" Will was totally confused.

"Yeah. You remember. I owe you a meal, and you love Chinese?" she answered eyes down cast.

"I bloody hate Chinese." The words rolled out of his mouth before he could stop them. "Joy and Erin love it, but I hate it."

So now he knew. She was only doing this because of that stupid bet. He could have killed himself. Did she have any idea what he would have done to spend time with her just because she wanted to be with him? "I'm sorry about the way I treated you the other day. I was a stupid git."

"I was worse,” she replied. "I was just scared."

"Of me?" Will asked with a smirk.

"No, of your mother,” Toni lied. Something about that smirk could just piss her off in a heartbeat! “Let’s eat.” //God, he can get on my last nerve!//

They sat down and began eating, both of them darting shy glances at the other. Will complimented the food and Toni blushed prettily. As they talked, they found that they had far more in common than they expected.

"I can still help you with your poetry if you want?" Will offered shyly. //Please, say yes.//

"Yes, please. That would be really cool of you, William,” Toni answered, her eyes shining with gratitude. //Oh, no, he isn't cute. He’s freakin’ gorgeous!//

The End?

Will's Mama

Buffy looked around the big table at her nearest and dearest. Spike sat beside her, of course, with Dawn and Andrew next to him. Across the table, Willow and Xander flanked their mate, Faith. Joy and Erin were sprawled on the floor doing their homework.

"Do any of you know what I saw this morning?" Buffy growled. Not giving anyone the chance to answer, she continued. "That little redneck tramp was feeding William fudge."

"You mean that stuff that’s not quite a brownie and not quite a candy bar?" Xander asked. "And you didn't invite her to the meeting?"

The look Buffy shot him was enough to eat the paint off her brand new Aston Martin. "What part of redneck tramp didn't you get, Xander?"

"But we accepted Spike and HE didn't bring sugary goodness.”

Buffy moved quickly towards Xander, only to be hauled back into her mate’s chest before she could do any serious damage to her now former friend. A panicked Xander tried to slide under Faith for protection, but the brunette shoved him away.

“Uh-uh, buddy. You piss her off; you’re on your own.”

Spike eyed his friend. "You mean if I’d bribed you lot with fudge back in the old days...”

"Oh, hell yeah, bleach boy! You woulda been in like Flynn,” Xander answered him, casting a wary glance at the slayer. "I would have begged Buffy for ya."

“For fudge?” the blonde vampire demanded.

Andrew gave an all-over shiver of delight. “Fudge is like sex, only, without the messy wet spot,” he spouted with a dreamy smile.

"Getting back to the point,” Buffy ground out over a chorus of ‘ewww’s’ and ‘TMI Andrew!’. "We have a situation here, people!"

"Yeah, Will's dating Toni,” Joy piped up from the floor.

"He's twelve! He isn't allowed to date!" Buffy cried, trying to quell her eldest with the evil eye. "If I have to, I'll lock him in his room."

"Oh, yeah, like that'll work,” Joy snickered at her mom.

"I thought you hated her?"

"Not hate, so much,” Joy answered. "She's one of my best friends, but when she hurt Will it really pissed me off."

"And she will do it again,” Buffy informed her triumphantly. Joy gave her mom the patented Summers hairy eyeball and went back to her math.

"Mum, she screwed up. She even said she was sorry,” Erin offered. "And, honestly? She’s way better than the other choices. The rest of the girls want to do naughty things to him because he’s so…pretty." Her screwed face up in disgust.

“He is a good lookin’ lad,” Spike whispered across the table to Xander. “Gets it from his papa, of course.”

“Oh, of course,” Xander agreed before muffling a coughed *bullshit* behind his fist.

"Anyone else want to turn traitor?" Buffy asked ignoring her daughters’ snickers. "Dawn?"

"Yeah, I sat up their first date,” Dawn answered her sister, completely unafraid of the other Summers woman.

"I helped,” Andrew squeaked bravely, looking more like the scared kid they had first met than the Council's head researcher.

“Um…” Willow raised her hand nervously. “I just want to go on record as saying that I haven’t done anything to help. Not even for fudge. Nope, not me. No helping the little redneck tramp from Willow!” the powerful witch babbled.

"Listen B, if she hurts him...” Faith began in an attempt to reason with her incensed sister slayer. She wondered idly when Buffy had last had her blood pressure checked.

"WHEN,” Buffy cut her off. "WHEN the tramp hurts him, I want you all to remember this day." Buffy gave every member of the group the cold dead eye, including her mate, before stalking out of the room.

"Oh, God,” Dawn muttered, looking over at Spike. “Projecting much?"

"Bloody hell, yeah," he said with a grin.

The End??

Will's Papa - Will's Girl

Will's Girl

The Iniative Has Will

Several Years Later

"You girls aren't going,” Spike said to the three teenaged girls in a barely controlled voice.

"They have Will,” his eldest ground out through clenched teeth.

"Yeah, and I'm not risking the three of you."

"He's MINE." Toni Du Bois' eyes flashed golden.

Spike shot a quick glance at his wife. She had never cared much for Toni, but this time, even she seemed to agree. No help from that quarter. Bloody contrary women.

It was bad enough that he felt his own demon agreeing with the chit. Over the last four years the girl and his son had become inseparable. Will clearly adored the girl, and she was mad about him. Spike knew that in the past year they had become lovers, but much to his and Buffy’s relief, they had agreed to wait until they were eighteen to claim each other as mates. Still, they shared a bond and he could understand the girl's need to help get him back.

Ignoring her mates pleading looks, Buffy was getting the last of her combat gear together. Since she found out the new Initiative had her son, her own demon was close to taking over. Fucking Riley Finn! She wanted to hold the enormous hall monitor down while her almost daughter punched holes in his chest.

"Toni, luv?" Spike grabbed her as she stormed past him and whipped her around. "What am I supposed to say to Will if I get you killed?" he demanded.

Toni's pale complexion mottled with anger, glaring proof that redheads really do have truly nasty tempers.

‘Damn, Spike, that was a dirty trick!’ Buffy thought. It was a low blow, even for him, but she knew he was ruthless when it came to the kids’ safety. And Spike had accepted Toni as his future daughter even before her first date with Will.

Even before Toni started growling, Buffy was making motions behind Spike's back to get the girls’ attention. ‘Three planes,’ she mouthed silently at them, holding up triple digits. ‘Three.’

She and Spike would be on the first to leave the girl's only had to sneak on the last and by the time Spike found them out, they would all be in Bolivia. Once there, he would have no chance of keeping them from helping.

Erin and Joy nodded immediately, but it took Toni a second to calm down enough for the message to register. Was Buffy actually encouraging them to stow away on one of the planes?

Judging by her pointed look and frantic gesturing behind the vampires back, she was.

Toni hid her amazement at the fact that the Senior Slayer was willing to help her. Buffy had made no secret over the past four years that she was looking forward to Will 'outgrowing' Toni. To be accepted now was the only thing that helped her regain control.

She shook off Spike’s restraining hands and turned to Will’s mother. Her short, jerky nod belied the look of gratitude in her eyes.

"FINE!" Joy snarled at her father. This was an old game for the feminine contingent of the Summers-Kenticot clan, and she and Erin played their parts with skilled finesse. The girls grabbed Toni and made as if to drag her away. Once they were out of sight, they immediately broke into a run and headed straight for their rooms.

Grabbing only what was necessary to a mission of such magnitude; they slipped out a side door and melted into the night.

-------------
21 hours later- a top secret military base in Bolivia

Toni had been too late. The briskoth demons had held her up only seconds too long . She had burst through the door just as the portals opened and swallowed the closest thing to a family- besides her sisters- that she had left. She stood in the center of the room, looking around her as several portals opened and closed. The Summers-Kenticott clan was already lost to her. Tears she had held back since Will had been captured ran freely down her face now.

"Toni!" Willow yelled from the doorway. "Don't move. Those are time portals. If you fall in one, there is no way of knowing where you might wind up."

"Is Will through there?" Toni asked finding hope.

"Toni, we have no idea which one he might be in,” Willow warned. Not noticing the younger girl's calculating expression, she looked back as Faith and Xander came running up.

Toni smiled through her tears and completely disregarded the witch’s advice. "By the Power of Greyskull!" she yelled as she dove through the closest portal.

"Umm, Wills, please tell me we planned that?" Xander asked looking around the now empty room.

End of Will's Papa :P
