Holding Drusilla, threatening stake positioned for the kill, she could feel the tension flowing from Spike’s stance and see the terror at the thought of losing his love. Buffy’s heartache and mistrust for the one that was supposed to love her compounded, making it hard to breath. Never had she seen this kind of love in Angel’s eyes and wondered if what she’d told Ford was the truth.

If this creature before her was completely evil, why wasn’t he ripping into her? Vampires didn’t show concern. Emotional attachments weren’t possible. So why was he letting everyone go? Why was he stressing over the stake pressed to his girlfriend’s un-beating heart? And how was it possible - in his demonic state - to have such a soft look of loving awe while gazing upon Drusilla’s face?

Her world was turned inside out by just one small moment, never to be the same.
