"I wake up to find myself
After all these years
And where all the time has gone
Still seems so unclear
'Cause there's no one else
Since I found you
I know it's been so hard
You should know"

Buffy remembered how Spike’s arm was a cool, solid weight around her waist. How his still chest rested comfortably at her back. With Spike by her side she had felt as if she could defeat anything. That despite all of the drama and pain, that once it was all over Buffy would finally get her reward. At the end Spike had known. Buffy had told him that she loved him and now it was over. The world felt new and a weight had literally been lifted from her shoulders. Every day after, Buffy thanked him. It was because of Spike that she had this whole new life. She started dating again. They were all guys that her friends and family approved of. She was happy. The guys she went out with never lasted long. Some were jerks. Some were too nice. Some were just missing that certain something. It didn’t matter though. Buffy was still trying to find herself and when she did, she’d finally find that special someone.

"I spent all my life
Looking for our innocence
I've got nothing to lose
One thing to prove
I won't make the same mistakes
Now I know
That everything will be ok
When I die tomorrow"

He’d gotten drunk and recited poetry. To others it would have seemed truly pathetic. To him, it closed a chapter in his life lasting over a hundred and twenty years. Spike had seen Buffy from a far in Italy. She was healthy and happy. She had the life he’d always known she’d wanted. So he’d walked away and let her live. Now in this moment he was no longer William the Bloody Awful Poet. Nor was he Spike, Slayer of Slayers turned Champion of the Slayer. He was simply Spike, the guy who wanted to do the right thing. Last time, it had been for her. Now Spike was going into battle for himself. He knew in his heart that it was the right thing to do. So tomorrow he would fight. He’d save the baby and face the Senior Partners. Spike knew he was going to die in this battle. Only this time, nothing had been left undone.

"If I die tomorrow
As the minutes fade away
I can't remember
Have I said all I can say?
You're my everything
You make me feel so alive
If I die tomorrow"

Amazingly, Spike had survived. The slayers had arrived before the first wave had hit. They had torn their way through the legions of the Senior Partner’s army. In their wake, the ground was littered with the bodies of friends and foe alike. Charles Gunn was in critical condition, Angel was human, Illyria had closed the dimensional rift with her life, and Spike was covered in demon entrails. Despite it all, Buffy stood across the alley from him. Her eyes were shinning, her cheeks where flushed, and she smelled just as nasty as he did. None of that mattered right then. For that one moment, it was just the two of them. They had finally come full circle, and there was no where they’d rather be.
