I was waiting for Moriarty last weekend outside the Pasadena cinema where AICN just held its advance screening of DreamWorks’ "The Ring." A tall skinny smiley guy ambles up and asks, "Excuse me, are you Hercules?"

"Ngaa!" I panic, reaching for the man's hand. Unlike Harry, Moriarty, Quint and their ilk, Hercules doesn’t do set visits or in-person interviews. On those rare occasions I attend AICN events, those in the know know (or should know) not to identify me. My mind races: "How the fuck does this stranger know what Hercules looks like?"

I get even more rattled when the stranger identifies himself as "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" writer Drew Z. Greenberg. (Greenberg joined the "Buffy" staff last season. He authored the teleplays for "Smashed," "Older and Far Away" and "Entropy").

Ngaa again! I've never spoken to a Mutant Enemy employee face-to-face before. Is he alone? Has the entire "Buffy" staff turned up to pummel and/or harangue Herc about two years of far-too-revealing spoilers?
No. He’s just stepping up to say, "Hi." He says the Mutant Enemy staff is cognizant of the fact that we at Coaxial News, fearful of driving people away from "Buffy," have taken to holding back key spoilers.

And though I am still thoroughly rattled, I find myself instinctively spending the next ten minutes harassing the man with questions about all things Mutant Enemy. Greenberg was skittish about confirming what we’ve already learned, but he did offer a few interesting new details:

* Greenberg indicated that all the villains of the previous "Buffy" seasons would appear in just one scene, and I think he was implying that it was going to be the last scene of the first episode. "If this scene comes together the way we think it will, it’s going to be amazing," he said. "It sets up the entire season."

* I mentioned that Mark Metcalf, who played season-one "big bad" The Master, said he would definitely be back later in the season. From what I inferred from Greenberg’s response, the door is open for all of the "bads" to keep returning as the seventh (and likely final) season wears on. It also sounded like we'd be seeing a lot more of Eliza Dushku.

* Greenberg said he hadn’t yet learned which of the season-seven "Buffy" episodes he was going to write, but did indicate that he would be scripting the fourth episode of "Firefly" to air.

From pgmoney: Buffy, Buffy, Buffy!
Well, just to clarify, the fifth episode is the one with the singing-dancing Anya scene. I think I may have said fourth last week, because they are shooting episodes four and five out of order. So, four is still a work in progress. But five sounds fan-freaking-tastic. Dancing, singing--and a character from the past reappears.

From missyjdma: Hi! This is my first time here--any further news on Spike and how he deals with his remorse and new soul?
Welcome! He hides it from the rest of the Scoobs for a while, and he also ditches the crypt for a whole new ambience.

From angiebabe: What about Amber Benson? I heard that she returns as a twin sister in the first episode, when Willow goes to London. And that Willow falls for her, but it turns out she's straight.
Whoa, tiger. According to my source, none of that happens in the first three episodes. Sorry. He tells me Amber Benson will definitely be back, but not in the first three eps.

Newt – Looks like my episode will be episode five.

SlayerNextDoor – my episode is being directed by the genius David Solomon. I’m so glad he’s doing it. He’s amazing.

Halfrek – I’m doing great, thanks for asking. We start shooting my episode tomorrow, so I’m just about as happy as can be.

"Lessons"

NEW! - Buffy starts to have visions in her dreams. She sees a young woman in Istanbul get stalked by hooded figures (supposedly monks). A similar scene occurs in the second episode, "Beneath You."

"Same Time, Same Place"

NEW! - Willow returns to Sunnydale unable to see or be seen by her friends. (Results in at least one cool scene which presumably is the reason for the episode's title.) It happens because of her magic and because she's afraid of being alone.

NEW! - Anya pays the price for undoing the curse on Worm Man and loses her ability to teleport.

Episode 5

NEW! - This will be an Anya-centric episode. Complete with singing flashback to "Once More With Feeling" time!

It's good news for "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" fans: Evil vampire slayer Faith is set to return to the UPN drama series. Eliza Dushku has signed on to reprise her role as Faith this season in five episodes of "Buffy" and three episodes of the WB Network's spinoff "Angel," both from writer-producer Joss Whedon and 20th Century Fox TV.

Did the Hellmouth Freeze Over? Never thought I'd be so lucky to get a private tour of the Buffy set--from James Marsters--but apparently I racked up enough good karma helping little old ladies across the street (well, I thought about it once) that it actually happened.

James took me around his Buffy digs (including the brand-spanking-new Sunnydale High) as we shot a segment for E!'s Live Countdown: Primetime Emmy Awards, during which you'll get the chance to go behind the scenes of Sunnydale and a bunch of other Emmy-nominated shows.

For now, let me give you the highlights: James bit my neck, James bit my neck, James bit my neck.

What, you want to know more? Well, my tongue's a bit tied, but I'll tell you this: There were murmurings of Buffy's basement being a new hub for hotness (and insanity).

Join me in the Crypt of Decryption:

I have some additional spoilers for the first few episodes.

Episode 1:
Herc speculates that the returning Big Bads will all appear in the final scene of the first episode. My understanding is that this involves some sort of shapeshifting being that appears in the presence of Spike. It shifts into the shapes of several of the Big Bads, from one into the other, perhaps backwards through time. Is it real or is Spike hallucinating?

Episode 2:
The Oracle reports that Buffy is having Slayer dreams. Interestingly, Spike repeats to Buffy something she heard in one of her dreams. Are the writers showing some sort of mystical connection between Spike and Buffy?

Episode 3:
This episode does not pick up where episode 2 ended. We find out later that after Spike's confession about the soul, Buffy ran away, not able to deal with it. However, she, Xander and Dawn come to him for help when they are trying to find out what's behind a dead body Xander found.

Episode 3 and 4:
Spike is still helping Buffy and the Scoobies in episodes 3 and 4, but his sanity is still an issue.

Episode 5:
Anya confronts her past, present and future; Hallie and D'Hoffryn appear; Xander tells Anya he still loves her, but Anya may not be ready to resume a relationship; Buffy gives advice to Spike.

Spike is not living in Buffy's basement in episode 5, so what is Wanda talking about? Always unclear, of course. I suppose it's possible that after episode 5, Spike will go to live in Buffy's basement. Or Wanda could have been talking about the school basement, where Spike's scenes in the early episodes are taking place, including a scene in episode 5.
