Report from Buffynuts

There were ten actors: Buffy, Willow, Xander, Dawn, Andrew, and five teenage girls. Most of the actors were carrying weapons.
Buffy was wearing jeans and a dark leather jacket; her hair was in a clubbed ponytail. Xander was wearing jeans and a blue shirt, and he was carrying an axe. Willow was wearing jeans, a grey sweater, and really cool suede boots; her hair was loose. She was carrying what looked like a wand. It was a stick about two feet long with a silver pointed thing on top that looked like a Christmas ornament. Dawn was in an orange sweater and was carrying an axe. Andrew had what looked like a bottle of holy water in his hand; it was hard to see and I thought at first that it was a small gun.

One of the teenage girls had a line; her character's name was Molly. She had round poodle pigtails and a fluffy pink coat, and she spoke with some sort of foreign accent -- Australian? She was carrying a stake. One girl was African-American and was wearing overalls. Another had short red hair and was wearing a striped sweater. One of the girls was carrying a crossbow.

There was a monster that the crew was calling the "UberVamp." He didn't look like a regular vampire; he was bald and ghoulish, like the Master but not as bat-like, and he didn't have fruit punch mouth. He was wearing brown tattered rags, and he looked like he'd been dead and possibly even rotting for a while.

They started from a point down the street, with the UberVamp behind them, and all ten ran up to one spot and stopped. I didn't get all of the lines, but I heard these: Buffy said something about "It was right behind us this time. We need to split up." Molly said, "Do you think that's wise?" Dawn said, "What are you going to do? You can't take that thing on by yourself." (No ordinary vampire, for sure, then.) Buffy took the bottle or whatever from Andrew, who protested, saying, "Hey, I need that." Buffy put the bottle in her back pocket. She said, "Willow, Xander, get everybody out of here, now!" Willow led the group off the street. Dawn tried to stay; she didn't want to leave Buffy with the UberVamp, but Xander said something to her and pulled her away. Everyone but Buffy ran off. Buffy turned and faced the UberVamp.

This scene was shot several times from several different angles, with different close-ups, etc. Then they set up a stunt shot Buffy fighting the UberVamp. I wasn't able to see anything else, but I'm assuming Buffy won.

First, the big news! I asked Juliet Landau if she would be doing Buffy again, and she confirmed that she was; in fact, she had been filming a Buffy episode until 5:30 that very morning. She's going to be doing another Buffy episode "further on", but probably won't be doing any Angel episodes this season.

I've just returned from teh Mid-Ohio con in Columbus Oh...and there I met, James Leary-the actor who plays Clem. Mark Lutz-aka Groo, and Andy Hallet-aka Lorne/the Host.

I talked to each one individually and tried to pry some spoilers out of them...the only thing James would say re: Clem, was watch for him sometime after Christmas.

From jcd1980: Be a pal and give us Buffy scoop. Something juicy this time.
Big happenings up ahead with the international slayer I told you about last week. This new femme fatale is going to play into the "from beneath you" storyline and--from the looks of it--could possibly spin off into her own international-angled show. They are still casting the part (after the original British actress had to turn it down, because she didn't have a work permit).

From turnofthecentury: Mrs. Pathetic Couch-Potato Recluse, please tell us that Giles isn't dead. Everyone seems to be dying in Buffy all of a sudden. Before you know it, Buffy is going to be the new Survivor series.
He is not dead. Giles returns in the following two eps. Love, Mz. P.C.-P.R.

From sandor1: Is Amber Benson (Tara) returning to Buffy at all this season?
No. At least there aren't any plans as of now.

From rhymecat: Is Principal Woods a Watcher?
I spoke to D.B. Woodside last week, and something is definitely in the works between Woodsy and Buffy. He was extremely tight-lipped, but I'll give you the lowdown on what he said in this week's column. Sounds like things are heating up, big-time.

ON THE BRINK OF THE APOCALYPSE, GILES AND THREE
SLAYERS-IN-TRAINING ARRIVE IN SUNNYDALE, AS BUFFY CLASHES WITH THE UBERVAMP.
"Bring On the Night" – Buffy and the Scoobie gang struggle mightily to find a way to destroy the Ubervamp and are relieved when they are joined in the battle by the sudden arrival of Giles and three young would-be slayers.Meanwhile, Spike barely endures the tortuous interrogation by The First until Buffy arrives to confront him and save Spike. David Grossman directed from a script by Marti Noxon and Douglas Petrie.

Reported by Anonymous on 12-4-02

From the ep. 10 script:
"Note: It is VERY important that Giles not touch or be touched by anything. He can walk and talk-- but he can't fiddle or cuddle or caress. Got it?"

When Giles arrives he brings 3 girls (Molly, Annabelle and Kennedy) with him who are slayers in training. Those are apparently what those girls (from Istanbul and Germany) were who were killed in the beginning of a couple of those episodes by those monk guys (the Bringers). Apparently the First has been tracking down slayers in training (potential slayers) and their watchers and has been killing them all off. So now all the remaining slayers in training in the world are heading to Sunnydale for protection. One of the 3 potential slayers (Annabelle) that Giles brings with her is killed in this episode by the Ubervamp.

Spike is tortured throughout the episode by the Ubervamp. The First talks to him, mostly in the form of Druisilla and Evil Spike. The Ubervamp repeatedly drowns Spike and beats him to a pulp. Spike tells Druisilla/First that he's out... that they can't pull his strings anymore. Druisilla/First asks Spike what makes him think he has a choice and what makes him think he will ever be any good at all in this world. Spike replies, "She does. Because she believes in me."

Buffy and the gang find the Seal of Danzalthar in the school basement that was activated by Spike's blood. (Spike and the Bringers, etc. aren't there anymore) They take shovels and decide to cover it up. Afterwards Buffy and Principle Wood run into each other, each carrying a shovel. (Principle Wood just came back from burying Jonathan) They both give B.S. excuses for why they are carrying shovels and Principle Wood tells Buffy since she is feeling better he would like her go back to work at the school.

Buffy has a brief run-in with the Ubervamp while she and Giles go to the old Xmas tree lot, looking for the Bringers. She escapes only because of the sun rising (scaring away the vamp) After Annabelle runs away, Buffy goes out to find her, only to see her being split in half by the Ubervamp. Then apparently Buffy gets her butt kicked like never before. She can't even hurt the Ubervamp at all or even get away from him. The gang ends up finding her almost lifeless body, bloodied with ribs smashed. She bounces back after some rest at the Summers home with her Slayer fast-healing abilities and the episode ends with Buffy giving a speach about how the only thing more powerful than evil is them, and they are going to declare war on the First and the Bringers.

Join me in the Crypt of Decryption:

An anonymous source emailed me with credible information regarding episode 10. It indicates that Spike is not rescued in episode 10, as the UPN promo blurb would suggest. However, it confirms Drusilla's appearance in episode 10 as well as some interesting stage direction regarding Giles. Also, the Ubervamp appears to be a very strong opponent.

Apparently at the Succubus Club last night it was revealed that Drew Greenberg would be writing episode 13 and Jane Espenson episode 14. The episode 12 slot then might be Rebecca Rand Kirshner. I should have more information on this soon.

I don't have a lot of commentary today. I just wanted to get out the news that Spike is not rescued in episode 10 because I know a lot of people read the UPN blurb that way.
