Charmed's eighth season is likely to be its last...
Executive producer Brad Kern believes Charmed’s eighth season will most likely be its last, although he isn’t ruling out a charmed spin-off.

In an exclusive interview with Charmed Magazine’s Ian Spelling, Kern revealed that although it was still early, he felt that season eight would be the show’s final year, at least with the current cast.

“I don’t think the girls will want to come back for another year of Charmed, and I’m going to treat the season accordingly,” explained Kern. “I don’t think they should want to come back. Eight years is an amazing amount of time, especially when you talk about the ages that they were at when the show began and where they’re at now. Their twenties have been devoted to Charmed and now it’s probably time for them to be looking at other avenues both personally and professionally. I can’t imagine that they would want to, nor should they be expected to, add any more years to their contract.”

That said, Kern was also keen to stress that when it comes to Charmed you can never say never.

“I’m going to embark on this season as though it will be the last, so that I can do what I said I’d wanted to do, which was to have several episodes leading up to the ultimate finale. That said, the first half of the season, I won’t be doing that. I’m not going to spend 22 episodes building up to a finale. The first half of the season will have its own life. Should the show take off, should some of the new characters we’ll be bringing in take off, should the ratings improve and the network decide they need us more, then I guess we’ll start talking about whether there’s any possibility of carrying the show on beyond the eighth season. I’ve told you in the past that there’s spin-off potential with Charmed, and the spin-off could be built into this last season. But we’ll see. It’s too early to really talk about Charmed ending or going another year, or about a spin-off.”
