Just a minute ago he had kissed her passionately. Now it had changed to hate. Pure hate. She couldn't pull away from the kiss. It's essence was stronger then anything she had even known. She gathered all the strength she had in her both physically and emotionally and pulled away from the kiss awestruck. She looked into the pools of brown nothingness that had once held soulful hope and love. Now these same eyes held nothing but hate. "Doesn't look like you'll be needing this." Angelus said as he went to remove the towel the hugged Buffy's body. But she was quicker than he was. She grabbed her towel and held it tightly around her.

"No.... how? How?" Her eyes welled up with tears as she realized that this wasn't her Angel. It was in fact his alter ego. (dun dun dun)

"C'mon Buff. You act as if you had no idea this would happen. You know how much he loves you. You think that after hearing about you being dead he didn't lock himself up in a cold dark dank room? You think that seeing you again would make him happy? C'mon. Stop with the innocent act." Angelus laughed cruelly. Buffy turned to run out of the bathroom. But before she could make it to the door he grabbed her by the arm and flung her to the wall. Her body slammed to the wall and she slid down. Angelus walked over to her, and pulled her up by her hair. Once he had her standing up, he kissed her again angrily, but this time he kissed her so hard, her bottom lip started to bleed. "God you're easy." He snickered as he flung her to the floor. Just then the door flung open. It was Gunn.

"Is everything ok? We could hear some-..." But Gunn trailed off once he saw Buffy crumpled up in a bloody head on the floor and the bathroom a mess. "What the hell did you do to her?" He hissed to Angelus motioning to Buffy.

"Oh, her? Don't worry, I'm just conditioning her." Angelus laughed as the pushed Gunn out of the bathroom and into the hallway. Angelus followed Gunn from out of the bathroom and into the hallway. But Angelus hadn't counted on being ambushed. Wesley jumped out of the shadows and shoved a crucifix in his face while Cordelia threw a bottle of holy water in his face. This sent

Angelus running of the apartment into the nearly dawn twilight. Cordelia ran to make sure Gunn was ok while Wesley ran to see how Buffy was doing. She was staring off into nothingness with a blank expression on her face. She gave a whole new definition to the word shocked.

"Buffy what happened?" Wesley slowly questioned Buffy. When he got no response he shook her shoulders. "Buffy what happened? What did he do to you?"

Buffy answered still staring into the nothingness. "We just kissed and then he sank to the floor and... and he just wasn't Angel any more. He... he.. he said..." But it was too painful for her finish.

"What did he say?" Wesley said shaking her.

"He said that it was my fault he turned. That I knew he would turn because he would be so happy to see me. But I didn't know. I just didn't know. I didn't know." She continued her mantra as Wesley sat down and the floor next to her and wrapped his arms around he while she cried.

"Hello?" came the familiar voice on the other end of the line.

"Willow? I don't know what to do. He... he's not Angel any more. It's not him. It's a monster that looks and sounds like him. Help me! I just... I don't know what to do anymore." Buffy said as she gripped the phone harder. Tears were threatening to spill out any minute now.

"What? What happened? Did you two... sleep together?" The redhead prodded for the details.

"No. Nothing like that. He just... he was just happy to see me I guess and..... I... we were kissing and he just sank to the floor and.... God. I'm sorry I just didn't know." She started to sob. "Can you and the rest of the gang just get the hell up here? I can't do this on my own. It just hurts so much." She managed to get in between sobs. She didn't even wait for an answer before she hung up. She leaned on the front desk for support while she tried to stifle the sobs.

"What do you mean do this alone? We're all here aren't we?" Gunn had evidently been behind her the whole time.

"It's just that.... haven't ever met this side of Angel before. It's not even him. Just..." she had to choose her words carefully, "pure evil. And I would rather have people here helping that knew what he is and what he's capable of..." She trailed off in an unpleasant reverie.

"Look, B, I've met the evil part of Angel. And so hasn't Wes. We know what it's like. We have to, want to help. Please let us." Gunn pleaded with her.

"Faith calls me B. I didn't know you met that side of him. How did it happen?" she asked flatly.

"It was drugs. Would you rather I don't call you B?" he asked carefully.

"No. I like it. If you wanna help, you're going to have to do whatever I say when I say no if and's or but's about it. Just do." Her voice remained toneless.

"Not to bring up the bad but, it's not your fault. You didn't know. Don't blame yourself." He said as he bent in to hug her.

"But I should have known. I just should have." She said into his shoulder.

"How?" he asked simply. But when he realized she couldn't answer he just hugged her tighter.

The doors to Angel Investigations swung open. In walked a tall man in a gray tank top, army pants and boots. He was blonde and wore a grim expression on his face. He walked over to where Wesley sat researching. "I was told I would be able to find the Slayer here. Is she here?" He asked.

Wesley looked up startled by his cold monotone. "Yes. But how do you know the slayer? How do you even know what one is?" Not trying to keep the curiosity out of his voice.

"It's a long story. May I see her?" He asked again. Only this time his tone was warm and more friendly.

Wesley stood up. "I'm afraid we're terribly busy. And I don't think that she is in a good enough state for visitors yet." He said feeling sorry for the young man.

"Look. It's really important and it won't take that long." The boy pleaded.

"All right. Wait here. I'll see what I can do." Wesley said as he made his way upstairs.

Wesley found Buffy in one of the empty rooms gazing out the window. She looked tiered beyond words. She wore a heavy expression on her face. He felt sorry to interrupt her moment of peace. "Buffy? There's a young man downstairs who would like to have a word with you. He said it was very important." He said to her feeling more guilty then he had felt in his entire life. She turned her weary, bloodshot eyes to him.

"Did he give you a name or a reason?" She asked. Her arms were now folded across her chest. This action made Wesley think of his mother.

"No. I'm sorry."

"Tell him I'll be right down?" Buffy asked again turning to gaze out the window. *Beautiful sunset for such an ugly day* Wesley thought. She was now bathing in the little sunlight that washed into the room. The sunlight played with her facial features making her look more pallor and heartbroken.

"Yes."

She slowly walked down the stairs. It was like a part of her was taken from her. A piece of her that could never be fully replaced. She turned the corner and walked into the main lobby of the office and came face to face with her caller. "Riley?" She was again awestruck. "I thought you were in Brazil on an undercover mission?" Thoughts and memories ran through her head. But she pushed them away. It was too hard to think at this point.

"I was. But I was informed you died. I had to go to your funeral. Buffy... I.... I called Willow a few days ago to see how they were doing without you. And she told me that you had been... that you were alive. And that you were in LA. She also told me about what happened with Angel. I'm sorry. I came up here to help. The others will be here sometime tomorrow. Do you want me to stay and help? If you don't want me here, I will go now." Riley feverishly finished. Buffy merely walked over to him and hugged him.

"Thank you for coming. And thank you for caring." She stated as she walked over and hugged him. When she finally pulled away she noticed Wesley was staring at them.

"Wesley this is Riley, and Riley this is Wesley." She motioned towards both Riley and Wesley.

"Yes. I remember seeing you at the funeral. I just didn't know who you were. And come to think of it, Angel had said a few things about you." Wesley said as he extended his hand.

"Yeah same here Minus the Angel talking." He replied as he took the Englishman's hand. "It's nice to.. well I would say meet you but technically we've already met so.... It's a pleasure to know you." Riley laughed.

"Awwwww..... we're having a moment aren't we?" Came a familiar singsong voice from the front doors. "But Riley? Shouldn't you be threatened? I mean Wesley IS... another man in our fairest Buffy's life." He said with a laugh. Angelus now looked over at Buffy. She looked as if she were frozen with fear and pain. Angelus took a step towards Buffy, but was quickly blocked by Riley.

"What the HELL, do you want Angel?" He growled to the vampire. Riley had purposely stood in front of Buffy to block his means of getting to her.

"I want what is rightfully MINE." He pronounced the last word as if it was the one and only word he knew. "Uuuuhhh uhhh uhhhh Wes. We can't have you playing the hero today." Angelus scolded as he leaped at Wesley who had gone behind the front desk to get the stakes, holy water, crucifixes, and garlic that they kept stored there. He grabbed Wesley by the arm and flung him fiercely against the wall. Wesley moaned as he slid down the wall to the floor and into unconsciousness.

Buffy finally snapped out of her trance. "I, AM, NOT, ABOUT, TO, LET, YOU, HURT, THEM, AGAIN!" She screamed at the top of her lungs as she lunged at Angelus. She kicked him squarely in the jaw. "You are not going to try to hurt me by going through the people I care about the most. I won't let you." With the last word her fist came into contact with his jaw.

"Oh c'mon Buff. You can do better than that." He laughed as he rubbed his jaw. But Riley had snuck up behind him. Riley had chosen a chair for a weapon. Unbeknownst to Angelus, Riley brought the chair up over his head and slammed it down hard. There was a loud thud as the chair came in contact with Angelus head. It left him dazed.

"Help me grab Wesley and RUN." Riley commanded as he threw the chair down to the floor. Buffy obeyed and sprinted across the room to where Wesley lay coming to. She flung Wesley's arm over her shoulder and put his weight on her. Wesley groaned in pain.

"Aren't we forgetting something?" Angelus taunted. He had made it out of his temporary daze and had grabbed Riley. He now held Riley's own gun to his head.

"Buffy just run. Forget about me. Just run." Riley gulped as he heard the gun click next to his head.

"Angel don't." Buffy pleaded just as she saw his trigger finger put the slightest bit more pressure on the trigger.

"The only way this bullet stays in the gun, and out of G.I. Joe over here, is if you come with me." Angelus replied harshly. Buffy didn't move at first but then she saw a sick twisted smile spread across her Angel's face and she knew she had to do something before Riley ended up dead. Buffy quickly looked at Riley then at Angelus. Then back to Riley. She sighed as she walked over to Angelus.

"I'm sorry Riley. I just don't want to see you get hurt. And if this is what it takes then.... well, then so be it." She smiled darkly as Angelus grabbed her roughly by the arm and threw Riley down to the floor. Then to Buffy's own horror, he shot Riley.

"Oh my God! Riley?!" She screamed at the top of her lungs as she struggled to get out of Angelus's grip. But it was no use he was still too strong for her. She watched helplessly as Riley lay in his own puddle of blood. She couldn't tell where the bullet had gone. But she could see the blood. The blood was so red it looked black. It soaked Riley's clothes and skin.

"Let's go... lover." He whispered in her ear as he pulled her towards the glass doors. "We're going to go on a little trip."
