Blow Out the Candles and Make a Wish

by Cass

Disclaimer: I own nothing but the words in this fic. Angel and Buffy belong to Joss Whedon, Fox, The WB, Mutant Enemy, and whoever else is involved in this great show!
Rating: PG13-R for mild sexual situations.
Feedback: ALWAYS!
Note: Another installment of my fluff series. Angel and Buffy can get horizontal, pelvic, or groiny, however you want to put it, all they want, and Angel stays nice. although, I might just have to bring back the leather pants! :op
Note 2: Ok, so I'm revising this one for suitable ratings. Well, I've seen Man on the Moon and let me just say, the movie wasn't a very good one. Just thought I'd throw that in.
Dedication: Taryn. Chicky this is for you. Without ya, Lisa and I would be in a hole with our site! Thanks so much!!

Buffy groaned as she woke up. January 19, she hated this day. It was supposed to be happy day, but this day was never happy. For two years, this day sucked. The first one, she didn't even want to think about, and the second one. "AH! This sucks!" Buffy screamed out loud waking Angel who lay beside her.

"Buffy? What is it? Are you okay?" Angel asked, his voice full of concern.

"I hate this day, Angel! I hate it so much! Why do I have to have it?!"

"Buffy, it's your birthday."

"I know! You remember my birthdays for the past two years. Last year, I was drugged by Giles and almost killed by a psycho vamp, and the year before, well, you know." Buffy trailed off.

Angel felt a pang of sadness course through him. "Buffy, I know your last two birthdays weren't the best, and I know part of it is my fault, but I'm going to make this the best birthday, I promise."

Buffy wound her arms around Angel's neck. "Just being here with you, Angel, it's already looking good." She leaned into kiss him, as the kiss deepened, Buffy climbed into Angel's lap so she was straddling him. "Let's go back to bed, lover," she whispered huskily into his ear. Angel slowly lowered them to the bed.

An hour later, they lay there exhausted on the bed. Buffy finally caught her breath and went into the bathroom. She looked into the mirror. She had definitely changed since last year. Maybe you couldn't tell by the way she looked, but in her eyes, you could see a lot more wisdom then had been there the last year.

Buffy sighed as she turned on the hot water. She hated her birthday. Why were they so special anyway? It's just the same as Valentine's Day. Birthdays and Valentine's day were just for getting presents. Why should she care how old she was? It's not like nineteen was a great age, anyway. You're an adult, but you can't drink. You're still in your teens. No biggie.

She stepped into the shower and let the warm droplets relax her tense muscles from the memories. She went face first into the spray, loving the feel of the droplets. It felt like standing outside in the rain, facing the sky.

Buffy turned around and started. "Angel! Don't do that! You scared me!"

"I'm sorry. I just thought that you'd like some company. I thought you might be lonely,"

"Uh huh, sure. Are you sure that you're not the one that's lonely? That's a pretty pressing problem you have," Buffy teased.

Angel leaned down to kiss Buffy. An hour later, they emerged from the shower, a little more pruned than they should be.

An hour later, they were ready to go wherever Angel had planned. It was six o'clock, so the sun had just set, but left a small light to the outside world. There was a romantic glow to the light, and everyone was taking advantage of it. Around them, couples cuddled anywhere they could find a spot with some privacy. Some of the couples were engaged in a friendly game of catch and kiss in the park. But neither Buffy nor Angel noticed any of this. They were too caught up in each other. All around them, there was nothing but their happiness and completeness of being together.

Angel looked down at Buffy and smiled. He slowly lowered his mouth to hers and captured her lips in a passion filled kiss. It was slow and tender, but held many promises for the night. After breaking the kiss, he wrapped his arms around her waist, and she his. Together, they walked to their destination.

Angel opened the door to the Sunnydale Cineplex holding out his hand in a motion for Buffy to walk in. She giggled at his gentlemen-like manners, though she loved them. They purchased Buffy's movie snacks, and walked into the theatre for Man on the Moon. They found two seats in the back in the corner of the theatre for privacy. They began to watch the movie, but soon found their interest in each other as they made out for the rest of the time.

They exited the theatre in a quiet happiness. Just enjoying the chance to be. Angel looked down at Buffy and smiled. "Hungry?"

"Starved," she said with a mischievous smile. At Angel's looked she said, "Oh, you mean food? Famished. Any ideas?"

"I might, come with me."

"I always do."

"Buffy." Angel tried to look stern, but he couldn't do it. They started to laugh together.

Angel took Buffy's hand, and together, they walked to the restaurant where Angel had made reservations. Together, they engaged in a pleasant dinner that included, chicken, vegetables, and cheesecake for dessert. They left the restaurant in a light and cheery mood.

Angel led Buffy to the park. "Angel? What are we doing here?"

"Shh, don't say anything. Close your eyes." Buffy closed her eyes and allowed Angel to lead her wherever he took her. She would let him lead her to her death if it meant being with him forever. That's how much she loved him. She would go anywhere with him if he just asked.

Angel brushed a branch out of his way as he led Buffy into the clearing. When he was where he wanted them to be, he told her to open her eyes. When Buffy opened her eyes, she gasped at what she saw. There was a clear patch of grass, surrounded by trees. On the grass, there was a blanket with a small picnic basket and candles and flowers. Angel led her over to the blanket, sat her down, and then lit the candles. "Angel, it's all so beautiful."

"Only the best for the best. I have something for you. A birthday present if you will." He reached into his pocket and pulled out two black velvet covered boxes. He handed Buffy the largest one. She slowly opened it and gasped when she saw the contents. Inside was a silver locket on a delicate silver chain. She opened the locket and inside was two pictures. One of her as a baby, and one as Angel as a baby. "Oh, Angel, it's so darling. Where did you get these pictures?"

"Well, I had your mother give me one of you, and I had mine laying around in a box from when I was a child. It was one of the only things Angelus kept when I was changed. Don't know why. I went to the photography store and had them downsize them to fit. Do you like it?"

"I love it. It's beautiful. Thank you."

"Always. I have one more." He handed her the small box, and she carefully opened it. Inside was a silver claddaugh just like the one Angel gave her on her seventeenth birthday, but this one was lined with diamonds around the heart. She looked up at Angel. He took the box from her hand, and got down on one knee. "Buffy, I know you're only nineteen, and I know that I can't give you what a normal guy can. As in sunlight and children. But I do know that I can give you all of the love you will ever need, I'll never stop loving you, and I can't remember a time that I didn't love you. What I am saying is, Buffy Anne Summers, will you be my wife?"

"Oh, Angel. Yes, of course. I don't think I could ever say no." Tears of happiness started to fall from Buffy's face as Angel placed the ring on Buffy's ring finger. "I love you."

"I love you too, Buffy." Angel leaned in to kiss Buffy. After the kiss ended, Angel pulled Buffy to his chest and laid on the ground with her. Buffy looked up at Angel.

"What?" he asked.

"Oh, nothing. I was just thinking how perfect this day has been. Angel, we're engaged! We're going to be married! I'm so happy!"

"I'm happy, too. Your happiness means the world to me, Buffy. And I promise you that I'll do everything I can to bring that happiness to you."

"You already have, Angel. You already have."

"I love you."

"I love you, too."

"Let's go home." They gathered their things together and walked arm in arm to their home. From the shadows, they did not notice a figure smiling at them. "Everything is almost perfect," it said, and then disappeared.
