Authors Note: This is the sequel to 'Sacred Vows' I would strongly
recommend you read it first or you won't have a Scooby about what's going
on. Angel and Buffy are together and expecting a baby ( Angel is human
now.) Xander and Cordy are together as are Willow and Oz and in my world
Jenny Calendar never died. Oh and there's this weird prophecy about Buffy
and Angels baby.
Part One: Meetings
15th March 2000
Buffy, Angel and Joyce stood in the entrance hall of one of the biggest houses in Sunnydale. Joyce looked around in amazement. The place was huge, the whole effect was overwhelming. Palatial didn't even begin to describe it.
This was the third house they had looked at on 'The Hill' as the residents of the town called it. For some reason most people who moved here left quickly. (You wonder why?) The floor was marble and a grand staircase was the center point to the hall. The place had ten bedrooms, a study, an office, formal and informal lounges a swimming pool and what had once been a large dance studio. According to both Buffy and Angel it was perfect for training in.
Joyce accepted this and asked in a calm voice what they were going to do with all the space. Buffy and Angel looked at each other and exchanged a grin of mischief. Angel moved behind Buffy and put his arms round her waist. Then Angel looked at Joyce and patted Buffy's stomach. They both burst into a fit of laughter at the look on her face.
"Don't worry mom. We aren't planning on having any more that three kids. And besides I'm going to space them."
Joyce shook her head and glared at her daughter. "I think I just had five years knocked off my life expectancy." Then she smiled and joined them as they laughed.
Just then the estate agent came in. "I'm afraid that there are another couple here to look at the house." She said. "I hope you don't mind?"
"No of course not. We'll go home tonight and make an offer tomorrow." Angel said with an air of authority. The young woman practically melted under his smile. Buffy rolled her eyes at this and put a proprietary hand on his arm. "Honey, we need to get home. I'm starting to feel hungry, after all I'm eating for two now." She said innocently. The young estate agent shot her a jealous glare then handed Angel her business card.
"If there is anything I can do just call" she said helpfully.
Angel nodded then put his arm around Buffy as they walked to the door. As they reached to door it swung open to admit two people dressed in leather.
"You know kitten, we'll have to chose one eventually. I think we must have been round every bloody house for sale in Sunnyhell. Don't you like any of them?" It was the man who spoke and he was very familiar.
Part Two: The following are symptoms of shock!
Standing in the door way, his arm around the girl and sun streaming onto his face was none other that Spike.
Buffy, Angel and Spike stared at each other in shock. None of them could move. All of them were speechless. The girl in Spike's arms spoke up then.
"Spike? Do you know them?." she asked. She was about 5'6 and had long golden brown hair down to her waist. She was slim and had a delicate bone structure. She had high cheekbones, a full mouth and a large pair of green eyes that shone with intelligence. She looked at Spike worriedly and hoped these people were friends.
"Spike?, aren't you the one who helped Buffy last spring?" This from Joyce.
"Yes, Mrs Summers. Hello Buffy, Angel." He nodded to them. He still looked off balance.
Finally Buffy realised her mouth was working again and squeaked out a sound of surprise. Angel standing with his arm around her protectively had better luck in the sound department and managed a whole sentence.
"How?" He demanded. "All things standing to rights you should toast."
"Same could be said about you mate. Anyway I thought you were dead, but obviously you're here. How did that come about?" He looked at Buffy then turned his head to the side as if he were listening to something. His eyes widened in realisation.
"My, my you two have been busy. When's the little bundle of joy due then.?"
"That's none of your business Spike. I thought you left the country with Dru. Where is the little ho any way? And why aren't you dust?" The slayer had finally gotten her voice back.
"It's a long story cutie. And by the look's of things your story is just as long. Why don't we all meet tonight at the Bronze around eight and we'll fill you in. By the way this is Deanna, my fiancee." On this note he and the girl left them standing there.
Angel looked confused as did Buffy. Then Joyce said in a calm voice. "Won't that nice Mr Giles know what to do?" Both breathed sighs of relief then looked at Joyce, a puzzled expression identical on their faces.
"I might have been blind all those years ago Buffy but that man was always around you. In fact at one point before all this slayer stuff came out I thought that yo..." She cut off and looked very embarrassed.
"Mom, please tell me you didn't think that me and Giles ever... Eeew. I can't even say it! How far wrong could you be. Giles was..is like a father to me." She shook her head in disbelief. This was one Hellmouth of a day for surprises and she had a feeling that it wasn't over yet. Angel too looked a little fazed at her moms comment and then chuckled to himself as he could see where her assumptions had come from.
The Library: same day.
Giles and Jenny were indulging in an uncommon moment of privacy in the library. The usually bespeckled Giles, was making out with Jenny in his office. Gone was the tweed and replaced with jeans and a dark blue shirt. Instead of glasses he had contacts. Jenny, as always, was dressed in a gypsy like manner in a long flowing wine coloured skirt with a pattern round the bottom and a matching loose top with a draw string neck. Jenny had persuaded him to dress more casually for their night out. They were going to a club later and she wanted him to be comfortable. The real shock had come when Giles had let her look in his wardrobe and she had found that he did own clothes made out of something other than tweed. Ye-gods, they were actually fashionable. Not even the clothes obsessed Cordy could complain about them.
Just as they came up for air Buffy, Angel and Joyce came into the library.
"Giles, something weird just happened." The slayer called out. Upon hearing her Giles popped his head out from behind the office door. He looked a little bemused and very disheveled.
"I. Aha, what seems to be the problem?" The slayer was very agitated, as was Angel. Whatever it was the watcher thought it must be big to have both of them this fazed out. Buffy was almost having a hissy fit. And he could tell it wasn't just her hormones raging. However nothing could have prepared him for the answer to his question. A look of bemusement then confusion disrupted the watchers usually calm demeanor. Then he was in total watcher mode.
"Standing in the sunlight, you say?" he questioned her. " are you sure it was indeed Spike?. Is it possible that he too has become human?"
"No!" Both Buffy and Angel cried in unison. Giles looked at them and asked them to explain.
"I might not be a vampire anymore, but I can still sense them, much the same way I did before. But I felt as their was something different with Spike. He's still a vampire but he's changed." Angel told him.
"Angel's right. It was defiantly Spike and he's still a vampire but my spider sense didn't kick in until he was two feet away from me. It was almost as if he had a soul..." she trailed off and pondered this thought as they all did.
Giles, was leaning against the oak table, a small frown on his face. Then his eyes lit in a dawning of an idea.
"Buffy, call Cordelia and ask her to come here right away. Then get Willow, Oz and Xander. I think I may know what has happened. This calls for some research. The watcher shook his head and laughed to himself. If what he thought had happened was true, it could very mean that Spike would help them."
Part Three: Wackiness Ensues.
Hotel: 5.40 pm
Spike looked at the girl in front of him and tried to explain just what was going on.
"Look pet, the last time I saw them I was a blood sucking fiend. Of course they are going to be wary at first."
"You're still a blood sucking fiend." she interrupted him. Then giggled as he attacked her and started tickling her. "Give me one good reason why I shouldn't stake you right now?" she asked him. He just grinned and replied with a smug smile that if she did he'd not be there to introduce her to the watcher. And oh yes she loved him. At this he kissed her passionately and shifted her to his knee.
"So Spike. You never did tell me much about the slayer. What's she like? Do you think she'll like me? I do so want to be accepted by them. What's the watcher like? Do you think he'll mind me marrying a vampire?" She paused in this train of thought as she remembered a comment he had made earlier to the man he had only called Angel. 'Same could be said of you mate'
"Spike?, what did you mean about that man today? You implied that he was a vampire but I didn't sense anything different form him, except that strange buzz both he and the slayer were giving off. It wigged me out the feeling I got around them."
Spike looked at the woman he loved and pondered over what to tell her. When he had realised who she was he'd not wanted to reveal too much about the whole business to her. After all that wasn't up to him. All he could do was guide her in the right direction. Besides he was sure the watcher would get a kick out of regurgitating the whole sacred duty crap.
"Do you remember I told you about Dru and I's sire? Well that was him. Just wait until tonight love, I'm sure you'll get plenty of answers then." The tone of his voice told her that no amount of tickling, kissing or pouting would get him to change her mind and briefly considered sulking. Just as quickly she dismissed this as a waste of time and energy and decided to get ready for tonight's little party. She looked at the vampire she loved and saw a small look of sadness cloud his eyes. Although he had separated himself from the demon sometimes he would let the guilt get through. It worried her a little and she hoped Dru would call them soon. That would cheer him up. He was worried about her because she had left so suddenly. Still Dru could look after herself and needed some time to get her thoughts in order. She just hoped she would come back soon.
The Library
Giles had just finished explaining what he thought had happened. "So you see, when the spirit possessed Willow, it changed the curse. Cordelia came to me after wards and told me she thought the curse was changed to include others. To be precise, two others apart from Angel. They can only be Spike and Drusilla. Which means Spike is good now and could very well help us. You will have to be more careful because of the baby. The only thing I don't understand is how he's walking in the sunlight. But I imagine he will probably fill us in tonight."
Jenny herself was intrigued. That the curse could be changed she had had no idea. That Spike and Drusilla could have souls was even more disturbing. She resigned herself to the fact that she and Rupert would be going to the Bronze tonight instead of that romantic little bistro. Oh well if nothing else it should be interesting.
Part Four: Fairy Tales
The Bronze
Cibbo Moto were playing tonight and the place was packed. In a quiet corner a group of tables were reserved for the Slayerettes and their guests. Xander and Cordy were the first to arrive closely followed by Oz and Willow.
"So you can understand Latin. And you didn't tell us this why?" Xander asked his girlfriend.
"How many girls do you know that are popular and smart? If you want to be a fashion icon you do not tell everybody that you can speak six different languages."
"Six?" Willow squeaked. Suddenly she saw her friend in a new light. Cordy had always been smart but she had gotten averages on tests. And there was the fact that Cordy could be very insightful at times. Usually when you least expected it. Then a thought occurred to her.
"'Tomato, fruit or veg?' Cordy, you could have come up with something better than that, no one would have realised."
"I had an image to keep up."
Xander and Cordy went to dance and Oz and Willow sat at the table. It was great having seats reserved and way cool that Angel owned the place. Willow was looking forward to Buffy and Angel's wedding. She was to be matron of honour and Jenny and Cordelia were bridesmaids. Xander was Angels best man and Oz the other groomsman. Giles would have the pleasure of giving Buffy away.
Joyce turned up next and quickly came to the table. Then Giles and Jenny entered the club. At five to eight Angel came in with Buffy. They looked to the table and seeing that Spike and the girl weren't there decided to dance first. The song that Buffy had danced to with Xander came on and Buffy started to moved her body against Angel's, very suggestively, flowing in time to the music. This time it was Angel who was her partner. They both danced, swaying together. Angel put his arms around Buffy and pulled her closer. They were getting cat calls and wolf whistle's as the other patrons watches the display that was going on. It was perfectly obvious to everyone there that Angel and Buffy were a couple. To them they were the only other people in the room.
Angel pulled her closer and whispered in her ear.
"Do you have any idea how jealous I was when you danced with Xander two years ago? I wanted to kill him and then drag you off somewhere and kiss you until you understood you belonged to me." He told her chuckling at the memory.
"The last part sounds good." She replied as she kissed his jaw line.
The song ended and they looked at each other. Still wrapped in each others arms they walked over to the table.
The expression on Joyce's face was classic. Nothing had yet made her understand the bond they shared. But after that dance she saw just how much they loved one another. The sparks between them were bright and strong. They had looked so right together. She now saw how special the love they shared was and felt ashamed that she had ever tried to deny her daughter the happiness she had obviously found with this man. Even if he was old enough to have a bi- centennial.
"No sign of Spike yet?" Buffy asked.
"Only in the way that he's just come in the door. Who's that girl with him?" Willow wanted to know.
"He said she was his fiancee." Joyce told her.
Spike and Dee made their way over to the tables in the corner. He knew they would take to Dee right away. She was so bubbly and her happy nature was infectious. He placed an arm firmly around her waist and led her over to the small group.
"Hello slayer. Watcher. Angel." Spike grinned at them. The looks on their faces read something between hatred, confusion and disbelief. Then he looked at Willow. "So you're the one that gave me back my soul. I'm curious, how did you do it." He asked her.
Willow looked at him and smiled. He looked very different. He was so alive. He even had a tan.
"I'm not sure what happened. I was possessed at the time so I didn't have any control over my body." She smiled to him. Completely forgetting how frightening he used to be.
"Hi, I'm Dee" she held out her hand to Willow. " I can't thank you enough for what you did for Spike. If he hadn't been restored I would probably be dead by now."
Giles was looking at the girl strangely. As a watcher he was trained to sense the presence of a slayer. But he couldn't be sure because Buffy's unique buzz was drowning it out.
"So you have a soul Spike." Giles stated the obvious. "Tell us, how is it that you can Walk in the sunlight?"
"Have you ever heard of a demon called Whistler? He carried out the spell on me and Dru so we could move around in the daylight. He also made sure that the curse on us is unbreakable. No loop holes to mess up our existence. In return he asked that me, Dru and Dee here came to Sunnydale. He said help was needed on the Hellmouth. I see why now. What with the slayer pregnant it's going to be difficult."
"Why did he ask Dee to come? And where is Drusilla?" Giles asked mildly confused.
"Dru is taking care of some...issues. She'll be here next week. As for Dee...Can't you tell, watcher?"
Giles' eyes widened. Then he reached out with his mind to Dee. Yes, there it was. An unmistakable slayer buzz. Nowhere near as strong as Buffy's but stronger than Kendra's.
"Another slayer. How extraordinary. The council have been searching for her since Kendra's rather untimely demise." He said his voice hardening slightly as he said the old slayer's name.
At this pronouncement everyone started talking at once.
More Surprises.
"She's a slayer?" Buffy cried incredulously.
"Henewilimwiimina?" Willow vocalised.
"Why's she with him?" Xander said bluntly.
"Willow, breath." Oz said to his girlfriend.
"Every one calm down!" Jenny shouted. "Let Spike explain."
Giles looked at Jenny gratefully and squeezed her hand.
"I met Dee about four months ago. She came into our Club and I knew right away what she was. When she walked home I followed her. She ran into a vampire and reacted out of instinct, I suppose. I threw her a stake and he was dust. I told her a bit about her being the slayer and all, then we sort of became friends. I helped her track down the vamps that murdered her parents. I haven't really explained to her about the whole sacred duty crap. I thought you might like to." He finished.
"How extraordinary, a slayer being instructed by a vampire. Still, a slayer falling in love with one, that's been done before. I really shouldn't be surprised anymore."
"Do you have a place to stay?" Joyce asked them.
"We've got a hotel for the night. Until we found a house we were going to stay there." Dee supplied.
"You're more than welcome to stay at my house. I've plenty of room." She told them.
"Do you mind kitten? It won't be so easy for the vampires to get in, even if they know where we stay. The hotels around here are fair game. You can never tell if a vamp's been invited in."
"I don't mind. It's very kind of you Mrs Summers, thank you, we will."
"Please call me Joyce."
"So Angel, how did you become human?" Spike asked his sire.
"I died. Got caught in the sun. They performed a revivification spell and because slayer blood was used I become human again. I still have all my vampiric strength but I've started aging again." He explained.
"How's Dru? Does she.... Is she still..." He broke off. Afraid to here the answer.
"Is she still insane do you mean? No. When her soul was restored so was her mind. She's much better. Almost as she was before she was changed. Sweet, gentle. She still has visions, but she can't interpret them like she used to. I'm worried about her though. She just went off without saying goodbye to me. But she promised to meet us here next week. Hopefully we'll have found a house by then." He answered Angel's unspoken question.
Willow looked at Spike and Dee in wonder. For weeks she had dreamed that a new slayer would come to Sunnydale. Her dream had come true. The older she got the stronger her powers were becoming. Soon it would be time to go to her mother. She was looking forward to it and hoped that she would be able to wield the self-control that Andrade had.
The other Slayerettes's were a little bemused by everything that had happened. Spike had always been the enemy. It was weird to think of him as a friend. And another Slayer? How would this one act. Kendra had been like a machine. Her only purpose was being the slayer. Was this new slayer like that or was she different?
"Hey, it's good to meet you." Cordelia said first. "I'm Cordelia, on behalf of the Slayerettes, Welcome to the Hellmouth. By the way I love your outfit, where did you get it?"
No one could believe it. Cordelia had started to make the new Slayer welcome. The usually stuck-up beauty queen going out of her way to make the new girl fit in and comfortable. Then they joined in. Every one introducing themselves to the new slayer.
"Now that we all know each other I should explain about who you are." Giles said then continued to tell his favorite story.
"For as long as there have been vampires there have been slayers. One girl in all the world with the streng...." He started. ( You know what comes next!)
