Sacred Vows

Part Twenty-Five: Prophecy can't be avoided.
New York: 9th January 2000

Casey walked home from the grocer's store smiling happily to herself as the thought of being rid of the lump she was carrying around with her came into her head. Just one more week and her baby would be born. Suddenly she was pulled into an ally. She screamed in fright. Then in the dim light she saw the face of her attacker. A man with deep ridges above his eyes and long canine teeth. His eyes glowed a feral yellow. She saw her own death mirrored there and she made a futile attempt to struggle. The vampire lowered his teeth to her neck and drank her blood. She managed to get her knife out of her pocket and slashed him as she felt herself fall slowly into unconsciousness. Some of the vampires blood dripped into her open mouth as he stood over her. Luckily her did not notice this or he would have taken her body away and hid it till the sun came up. The monster turned and left savouring the sweet blood in his mouth. The woman lay in the cold ally, the demons blood in her mouth slowly travelling her veins. A man came out of a door in the ally and locked it behind him, then he spotted the body.

The ambulance arrived quickly. In a desperate attempt to save the woman's baby they performed a C-section. The baby cried out in the cold night air and a star fell from the heavens. Part of a prophecy had been fulfilled.

In a dark doorway across the street was another vampire. She had watched the whole scene unfold. Her dreams and had been right. She new this child was special. Dru took out her cell phone, and dialed a number.

"Hello. Whistler, it's happened........ I think I'll call in that favour from a friend of mine. ........She's a witch, the good kind. .........She works with social services. The baby will get a good home until he's grown. Just like a normal child poor luv......Yes I'm leaving for California once I've sorted everything out.

The Library

Giles sat in his office. Everyone had left except he and Jenny. At this moment she sat asleep in a chair. Giles continued his search of the ones called the Warriors. The moon was just appearing in the sky when he found it.

'In the age of light will come the warriors. Two that will save the word from evil. One born from death and one born from a love once forbidden. They will be forever bound by love and fate. Once overcome all supernatural evil will leave the earth. Peace will come and earth will survive. Life eternal will be given to the warriors and their helpers. They will rule the earth together, stopping war and famine, making earth a paradise once more."

Giles looked in shock at the words. Then turned a few more pages. Looking for more information. He had almost given up when he knocked a book to the floor. He picked it up and looked at where it had fallen open.

'A star will fall from heaven on the night a warrior is born. He will come from death to live. On this night too the other warrior will be conceived. She will be given life from a once forbidden love between The Chosen One and her guardian Angel. These two will possess powers equal to the slayer and her Angel. Together they will be invincible. They will save the earth."

Giles stared at the page. He had found what he was looking for the information on the warriors. He woke Jenny and showed her what he had found. They needed to find out everything about these warriors and all those connected to them. Both Rupert and Jenny worked late into the night. At about midnight they saw a star fall from the heavens. It had started. The prophecy had begun to be fulfilled.

"Rupert, look." Jenny pointed towards the sky light. A bright star had shot across the night sky.

"Do you think that's it?" She asked

"Yes. Buffy and Angel will probably be celebrating by consummating their relationship. If she becomes pregnant by tonight's actions then the other warrior has been born. I wonder where he is?"

Part Twenty-Six: A mother's love.

They continued researching until well into the next morning. The more they found the better picture they could put together of the events for the next years. It was written that there would be many battles. That the warriors would fight along side Buffy and Angel. But in the end the last battle would be fought by themselves. They would have help from a powerful sorceress and that help would save their lives. In Giles' mind he knew that the sorceress would probably be Willow. The books had hinted as much.

Most disturbing of all was that the warriors should not be aware of their destiny, that Buffy and Angel would not know of it either. It was most confusing. Did it mean that he and Jenny could not tell them of the prophecy? He shook his head. Jenny walked over to where he was sitting bringing a steaming cup of black coffee.

"We can't tell them can we?" she asked him.

"I don't know. I feel that if we keep it from them we're betraying them. I'm torn between my duty as a watcher and as.. Well almost the role as a father that I feel I have with Buffy. She is like a daughter to me. I don't want to hurt her."

"You won't hurt her Watcher." A voice spoke.

Giles and Jenny both started at the sound. Andrade stood there.

"Watcher. The role that you play is very important. You must guide Buffy and Angel and their child as it grows. She must be unaware of the supernatural. You must tell her parents that she is at risk if she knows about their job. She must come innocently to the time that she is told of her powers. The other warrior will know nothing of his origins or of the supernatural. He will come to the Hellmouth, seeking her. They are soul- mates. This is where their destiny will begin. When he comes you will tell them all of the prophecy. My daughter will help them as I know she is meant to. Before she was even born I knew that I would have to give her up for the greater good. It was imperative that she too grew up without the knowledge of the real world. She had to grow up as a normal child. It tore me apart knowing that my only child would not know me. I gave her to the Rosenbergs when she was three. Just before they moved to Sunnydale. They were grateful for her as they couldn't have children of their own. I've watched over her. Disguising myself as babysitters and teachers as she grew. I'm proud of her. I just hope she can forgive me." Andrade sat down. She was dressed in normal clothes. As her concentration shook, the glamour she used to change her face slipped. She was Willows double right down to her shade of hair. She looked the way Giles imagined Willow herself might look in ten of fifteen years.

"I forgive you. You did what you had to..mother." Willow was standing in the doorway.

Andrade stood and looked at her daughter. Willow came over to her and they hugged.

"How much did you hear?" Andrade asked.

"Everything. I was coming to see Giles because of these dreams I've been having. I've been dreaming about Buffy's little girl. I knew there was something special about her."

Giles took all this in without blinking then showed Willow the prophecies. By ten o'clock Willow was filled in. They all agreed that they would keep it from the prospective parents. They would never speak of it again until the other warrior came to Sunnydale.

Part Twenty-Seven: Happily ever after.
Eight weeks later: 12th March 2000

Buffy sat in the doctor's office, Angel by her side. Then the doctor came in.

"Ms Summers, Mr Rourke, you're here for the result of the blood tests. I have some very serious news for you."

Angel looked worriedly at Buffy, she looked back at him fear in her eyes. They had come to get blood tests so that they could get their marriage licence and get married. When they had called the surgery they had been asked to come in. Both feared what they might be told. Surly after all they had been through to be together the fates would let them be happy.

"The results of Ms Summers blood test were a little unusual. To get to the point- you're pregnant. The baby will be due in about seven and a half months," he told them.

They looked at each other and breathed a sigh of relief. Then the news sank in, that they were going to have a baby.

"We're going to have a baby!" They cried in unison. Then they laughed and hugged.

When they left the surgery they went straight to the town hall to get the marriage licence.

Buffy and Angel were amazed at the news about the baby. Buffy was happier than she thought possible. When they went to tell Giles and the rest of the gang at the library they did not notice that Giles and Willow looked worried and not in the least surprised.

Buffy was unhappy about the situation with her mother. She knew that Joyce had only said the things she had because she didn't want to lose her. So, together, she and Angel went to see her and tell her their news.

Joyce' new apartment

Ding Dong

Joyce looked up from her book. That was strange she thought, who could that be?

Since her move back to Sunnydale hardly anyone had visited. She hadn't even been back to see Buffy because she knew they would just fight. Besides she was a little afraid of Buffy's boyfriend, Angel. She got up and went to the door. Standing on the front porch were Buffy and Angel. Both looked very happy and excited about something.

Part Twenty-Eight: Mom gets a shock.

"Buffy? Come in." Joyce said amazed at what she saw. "thanks"Joyce led them into the living room. Then asked them to sit down.

"Can I get you a drink of something?" she asked.

"No we're fine. Actually we came to tell you something. You see Angel and I have decided to get married. The wedding is in three weeks. We'd like you to be there." Buffy explained. Joyce looked astounded at this and sat with a thud in her chair.

"Married? But honey don't you think you're a little young to be making such a commitment? I mean you're only 19. Besides I thought he was a vampire." Joyce frowned.

"He was a vampire, but he's human now. As for my age, it doesn't matter. I know how I feel. We were meant to be. Besides, something else has happened. You see when we went for blood tests they found something else. I'm pregnant."

Joyce went very pale and shook her head trying to deny the words that had come from her little girl. Buffy couldn't be pregnant, she was a baby herself. This would ruin her life, being a teenage mother. She didn't know the first thing about looking after a new baby. Joyce felt herself getting angry. Angry at Buffy, at herself and most of all at Angel. Yes she decided this was all his fault. Then she realised what was happening. This wasn't just anger for Buffy but for herself. She was remembering how cheated she had felt while pregnant with Buffy. She had had to drop out of college and stay at home to look after the baby. She had resented Hank being so free. Had resented her own baby. Her own mother was dead and she hadn't had the support that she needed. Well things would be different for her baby. She would support her and help her all she could.

"I can't pretend to be pleased about this Buffy. But I will support you. You do realise that it will be very difficult to look after a new baby? Where will you and Angel live? Do either of you even have jobs? Do you know the kind of strain all the worry can put on a relationship?" Joyce knew Buffy didn't want to hear this but as a mother she felt Buffy should be aware of the difficulties. What she was going to say next had to be said.

"Have you really thought about this Buffy? Have you considered an abortion.?" Joyce cringed as she said the word. She just hoped that Buffy wouldn't take it the wrong way.

Buffy looked shocked at what her mother had just asked her. Beside her Angel looked ready to murder something at the very thought of losing their baby. He growled low under his breath.

"No! I will not get rid of it! She is loved. That's the most important thing. Angel and I can provide a good home and a loving family. We have plenty of support from our friends and I had hoped from you. I had already decided that I wanted a baby soon. The thought of getting an abortion is the furthest thing on my mind. I'm going to have this baby and marry Angel with or without your approval." Buffy said in an angry voice.

Part Twenty-Nine: Angel of Fortune

"Honey I'm sorry. But I had to ask you. I do support you and if you need any help with a deposit for a new house I'll gladly give it to you. I love you and I just want you to be happy." Joyce cried tearfully.

Buffy looked at her mom. Joyce looked back. Then they hugged. They both loved each other too much to hold a grudge.

"Mrs Summers, we don't need the money. I'm capable of supporting my family, and in style. Buffy will never want for anything. Nor will our child. But thank you for your offer it was very generous."

"Do you have a job Angel?"

"In a way. I have a lot of investments. I buy and sell stock on a regular basis. It may seem like a gamble but I'm very good at it. Among other things I own Techno-graphic Enterprises and Paladin oil. I also hold a controlling interest in Compucore and in a number of tv Networks." Angel said reassuring her. He had just named the biggest market traders in computer equipment- Techno-Graphic- the largest software company in the world - Compucore - and one of the top five oil companies.

Joyce looked at him in amazement. This man who looked young enough to be her own son was some kind of stock market wizard and entrepreneur. From what he had just told her he was probably one of the richest men in the world. Joyce looked at him in question.

He noticed the look and said. "When you've been around as long as I have you tend to collect a little money. When I regained my soul I wanted something to do, so for a while I had my lawyers invest the money anyway they saw fit. Then I started to take an interest and tried gambling some of my money at the stock exchange. The oil industry was my first big break. I owned some land in Dallas. With the money I made on the stock market I set up my own rigs and started drilling. I was lucky enough to find one of the largest sinks in the South. With that it kinda snowballed." He explained.

Joyce looked at Buffy. She smiled back and laughed at the expression on her mothers face.

"We've started looking for houses in Sunnydale. In fact we have an appointment tomorrow. Would you like to come?" She asked.

"I'd love to." Her mom replied.

Buffy smiled at her and moved closer to Angel. Everything was right in her world. She had Angel back, she was going to be a mother and her own mother had made up. From now on nothing could stop them.
