"Buffy, are you alright?" Willow asked her friend as she lay with beeping monitors next to her.
"No…" Buffy managed to get out.
She had been beat up real bad by a group of Morah demons. They had come so suddenly and too much. Buffy kept fading in and out, so Willow thought she was delirious. The doctors didn't know if Buffy would make it. Too much blood loss and damage to her internal organs. They had also said there was internal bleeding and head trauma, but it was too dangerous for them to go in and fix it. Giles had been furious that they weren't helping her. He had gone to talk to them while Willow had been left alone with Buffy.
"Where's…Angel…?" Buffy rasped out.
Her breathing was hoarse and shallow.
"He said he was coming. He'll be here." Willow promised, as she took Buffy's hand gently.
Buffy nodded, wincing in pain. She had refused the drugs to put her to sleep. Buffy knew that she was dying. She could feel her insides shutting down slowly. She needed to talk to Angel.
She hoped he'd hurry.
Buffy closed her eyes, but didn't sleep. For what seemed like forever, then she heard Angel come in.
"Where is she?" He asked frantically.
"She's right here." Willow called, flagging him down and leaving the room so they could have privacy.
"Buffy…" Angel said with tears in his eyes at seeing her frail form.
"Angel… Have to tell you…something." Buffy whispered in a hoarse voice.
"Shh, my love, save your strength." Angel whispered, holding back tears, and taking her hand.
"No, have to tell you. The Morahs…" She took a deep breath, "They said they would be coming…for you…"
Buffy paused and took another breath.
"The battle…coming soon. Have to be ready." Buffy whispered.
"What do you mean?" Angel asked, raising an eyebrow.
Buffy laughed hoarsely at his expression, then coughed.
"The End of Days. Be…ready. Be strong…" Buffy coughed again and tasted the coppery taste of blood in the back of her throat.
Angel noticed the expression of pain. He could see the light in her eyes drifting away, slowly.
"No…, Buffy, you can't leave me… I need you. I *can't* lose you." Angel pleaded, as he gently cupped her face.
Buffy smiled a lazy smile.
"This isn't…the end. Never is. Fate…isn't done with us, yet." She said weakly.
She held a shaky hand up to his cheek.
Angel leaned into her hand, lovingly.
"What do you mean?" Angel whispered, desperate to keep her talking so she wouldn't drift away.
"You'll see, my love, soon…" Buffy whispered, barely audible.
"Buffy, please no…" Angel pleaded softly.
"I love you." Buffy whispered, coughing again, tasting the blood again.
"I love you too." Angel whispered back, squeezing her hand.
Strangely, she wasn't scared of death. Not this time. This time, she would she would go somewhere else. She was needed. Where? She didn't know. But she did know that she would see Angel again. Sooner than anyone would think. Angel pressed a salty kiss to her lips. Buffy realized fuzzily he was crying. Buffy gazed at his face, memorizing each curve and detail. Her eyes fluttered closed, and Buffy felt her self drifting.
"Buffy, please, what am I supposed to do without you" She heard Angel ask, but it sounded like it was far away.
"Fight. Don't forget." Buffy whispered, not knowing if she was really speaking or not.
"Forget what?" Angel asked almost desperately.
"I'll never…forget." Buffy rasped, struggling just to get out the words . She knew he'd understand. She took one more shallow breath and let go. Then she heard the sound of the monitor flat lining. There was blackness, no sound, no anything.
Then a bright white light appeared and blinded her temporarily. When her vision cleared, she watched as two golden colored creatures stepped before her. A male and a female. At the same time, they both said, "Greetings Warrior."
