Email: Feedback
Rating: PG
Distribution: Just tell me. Creative Juices.
Feedback: I love it when people email me telling me that they read my stuff, and liked it. I love it!
Spoilings: Buffy Season 2; “Becoming, Part 2" and references to the whole season.
Author’s Notes: This is my first BtVS poem, so be gentle. “Full of Grace” by Sarah McLachlan (but what Buffy fan doesn’t know that?). I know some of the events are a little out of order, but I like it this way, so...
Disclaimer: Alrighty, I know I don’t own these characters, so be reasonable. I’m just borrowing them.
Pairing: Buffy/Angel.
Summary: Another poem on “Becoming, Part 2", from Buffy’s POV, with a different ending.

***

His eyes were so loving and full of trust
He stared at me, so confused and lost
I could see it in his eyes...
He wondered why I held the sword,
The sword that would take his life.
The only thing he remembered,
Was us being together
Holding each other and whispering...
True words of love.
But now I see the portal Opening wide behind him
And I know...
Things will never be the same.
He notices my pain, first thing.
The wound he, himself had inflicted
His eyes have turned so loving and caring,
From the hate and scorn
I had seen so much, over the months.
I grab him, cradling him against me.
As he drops a kiss on my shoulder,
I can feel my soul rip in half,
As I realize his death will be by my hands.
My sweet, sweet Angel,
I love you, so.
He whispers incoherently, such loving words...
My eyes close as I lose myself in his arms
My mind returning to happier times.
But then I see the portal,
And I feel the dangerous winds of Hell.
Fear grips my already broken heart,
And I know what I must do.
I pull away from him,
Hold his face in my shaking hands.
He trusts me, he says
We kiss, our love pouring out.
I know he knows something’s wrong
For he holds me with comfort and confusion.
Expressing true love through words isn’t easy,
But I manage as I look into his dark orbs.
“Close your eyes,” I whisper.
He obliges and I begin weeping.
Pressing my lips to his soft ones,
I take a deep breath, and I thrust the sword into him.
I can hear his gasps and his eyes on me.
His eyes are wide and I can see the questions,
Floating around in his thoughts.
He’s wondering, wondering why.
I want to scream as he holds his hand out for me,
Whispering my name in disbelief.
Suddenly, I’m doubtful, and our eyes meet.
Swallowing hard, making my throat burn,
I approach the only man I’ll ever love,
And take his hand.
I pull myself to him, hugging him close,
Our lips meeting in a passioned frenzy.
We cling to each other as fear and peace at the same time settle in my heart,
Winds threatening to pull us apart.
But, we’re too strong for that.
Too strong for Hell, and anything else that gets in the way.
Suddenly, I don’t care what happens anymore.
My friends, my mother, my Watcher, are all dead to me.
Only Angel exists to me. For me. With me.
And, in the blink of an eye, we’re gone,
Leaving nothing behind but memories.

I don’t care.
I know my love and I will be together forever.
Nothing can take that away from me.
From us.
Nothing.

Not even death.

***

The winter here’s cold, and bitter
It’s chilled us to the bone
We haven’t seen the sun for weeks
To long too far from home
I feel just like I’m sinking
And I claw for solid ground
I’m pulled down by the undertow
I never thought I could feel so low
Oh darkness, I feel like letting go

If all of the strength and all of the courage
Come and lift me from this place
I know I could love you much better than this
Full of grace
Full of grace
My love

So it’s better this way, I said
Having seen this place before
Where everything we said and did
Hurts us all the more
Its just that we stayed, too long
In the same old sickly skin
I’m pulled down by the undertow
I never thought I could feel so low
Oh darkness, I feel like letting go

If all of the strength
And all of the courage
Come and lift me from this place
I know I could love you much better than this
Full of grace
Full of grace

My love
