Parts 10-19

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Angelus walked into the bedroom and watched the boy sitting on the bed. As a human, he had always been an annoyance to Angelus, even when he had his soul. Angelus was interested to see what Xander would be like now. Angelus throw the arm full of clothing on the bed, and saw Xander turn to him. There was no fear in Xander's eyes now, just curiosity.

"These clothes will suit you better then those rags you're wearing. Get changed. We have alot to do."

"Like taunting the Slayer, I hope." Xander said, as he stood to change into the leather pants. Then he reached down for the dark t-shirt. Finally, he shrugged into the leather jacket. Xander felt better already.

"That's on the agenda. But, first you're going to take me to get Willow." Angelus said.

Xander walked up to Angelus. "I am, huh? Why would I do that? She's my best friend, wouldn't want her exposed to a dangerous element like you." Xander saw Angelus' expression and began laughing. He punched Angelus in the shoulder and said, "Just kidding, Angel. You want Willow, you got her. They're keeping her locked up in some cabin."

"How is she?" Angelus asked.

"She's been depressed....not eating. Giles wanted to bring her home, because he was worried about her health, but her highness wouldn't hear of it. She'd rather see Willow die then be back with you."

"That won't happen. You and I are going to get Willow, while Spike distracts Buffy. Then, you get the chance to 'reintroduce' yourself to the Slayer."

"Can't wait. The bitch left me to die at your hands. I don't care what she says, she's doing this because she's jealous. Cordelia wouldn't have died, Willow wouldn't be a prisoner, and I wouldn't be a vampire if Buffy would have kept out of Willow's life."

"True. And her time is coming. Those closest to her are either dying or turning against her. We may just have to let the Slayer live......to enjoy the results of her stupidity. But, I haven't decided about that yet. Are you ready?"

Xander and Angelus found Spike and the three of them left the mansion. Spike and some of their followers headed out into the town to cause a distraction. As soon as Xander and Angelus were sure that both Buffy and Giles were elsewhere, they left to get Willow. Once at the cabin, Angelus kicked in the door, but they were unable to enter.

"WILLOW!!!" Angelus screamed.

In the bedroom, Willow leaned up on her elbows. She could've sworn she'd heard her name. As she was about to lie down, she heard it again. Someone was calling her name.....and it sounded like Angelus.

"Willow, invite us in!"

Willow shook her head, she was sure she was dreaming again. But, she yelled back an invitation. She heard nothing more so she laid down again. {It was just my imagination.}

Angelus and Xander stopped outside the room, while Xander unlocked the door. Before entering, Angelus stopped Xander.

"What are you going to tell Willow about how you became a vampire?"

"Don't worry, I won't make you look like a bad guy. Like you, I don't want to hurt Willow. She was my best friend then, and it's carried over till now. Besides, we both know who was to blame for this."

Angelus nodded, then entered the room. {This is where they've kept Willow this whole time?} Angelus went over to the bed and saw Willow curled up underneath. He reached out to stroke her hair, and Willow opened her eyes.

"Hello, sweet. Are you ready to go home?"

Willow smiled and gripped his hand. This was so much better then the last dream. She almost believed he was really there.

"You're a pleasant dream, Angelus."

Lifting her into his arms, he kissed her. Willow hugged him tightly, afraid he'd disappear if she let go.

"No dream, sweet. I'm here, and we're going home."

"You're real? This isn't my mind playing tricks on me?"

"No tricks, but we need to get out of here before the Slayer comes back."

He set Willow on her feet and grabbed her some clothes. As she walked to the bathroom, still not sure whether all of this was real, she saw Xander standing by the door. But not a Xander she knew.

"Xander?" Willow asked.

"Hey, Will. Alot's happened since I last saw you. We'll explain everything on our way home."

Willow nodded, still trying to get over the fact that Xander was wearing leather and that he was with Angelus. Willow realized then that Xander had been changed, but why? What had happened?

Xander was driving the car they had stolen, while Willow was resting securely in Angelus' arms. They had filled her in on most of what happened. Only one question remained.

"How did you become a vampire?"

Xander took a quick glance at Angelus before turning his attention back to the road.

"Angelus captured me to get Buffy to tell him where you were. He planned to let me go as soon as she told him. But Buffy refused, even to save my life. She was so determined to 'save' you, that she wouldn't do the one thing that would've saved me. Anyway, while Angelus was away, I was attacked by one of the vampires that was supposed to be watching me. Angelus came back, and destroyed the fool, but I had already lost too much blood. It was either change me or let me die."

Angelus smirked in the darkness. The kid was good, he'd give him that. Nice story.....partially the truth, a major lie, and a very plausible scenario. {I think Dru may have been right on this one. Xander could actually be an asset.}

"I'm so sorry, Xander. This is all my fault." Willow said, as she buried her face in Angelus' shoulder.

"Will, stop it. The only one to blame for all of this is Buffy. I admit I was furious when I found out about you and Angelus, but it was your choice. She should've accepted that. But, Buffy was only looking out for herself, not bothering to think about how her decision would affect the rest of us. She didn't even bother to warn me that she'd had a run-in with Angelus. If she had, I could've warned Cordelia."

Willow glanced down at Angelus' hands, and took one into her hand. Lightly caressing the back of his hand, Willow realized she needed to know for sure.

"Did you kill Cordelia?" Willow whispered.

Angelus gripped Willow's hand, and moved it to his mouth. Kissing it lightly, he answered truthfully. "No, I didn't kill Cordelia. It was Spike."

Willow nodded, and drifted to sleep. Angelus tightened his hold on Willow

"As soon as we get to Sunnydale, drop Willow and I off at my apartment. I don't want her exposed to Spike and Dru yet. Then you can go have some fun. Test your new lifestyle. Just make sure you aren't recognized by anyone.....especially Buffy and Giles. That's for tomorrow night."

"How about if I make the Slayer even more vulnerable before tomorrow night?"

"How?" Angelus asked.

As Xander explained his idea, Angelus smiled. He hadn't thought about that, but Xander could pull it off. And it would be a devasting blow to the Slayer.

"Do it."

Xander smirked, he knew Angelus would like the idea. And Xander would have something to taunt Buffy with. When she found out about it, she'd assume Angelus was the one behind it. Oh, God, the look on her face when he told her the truth. {Shit, I can't wait.} Xander turned to see Willow snuggled in Angelus' arms. They had been friends since they were children, and now they'd be friends for eternity. He had a feeling Willow would make a wonderful vampire. Xander chuckled.

"What's so funny?" Angelus asked.

"Just wondering how Giles is going to write this up in his journals. The Slayer's two best friends turned to the side of darkness. Buffy will be remembered for being a failure. How could she save the world, when she couldn't even keep those closest to her safe."

They continued the rest of the drive in silence. After dropping Angelus and Willow off, Xander got rid of the car. Then he went about his plan. First, he'd feed.....then it would be time for his revenge against the Slayer.

Angelus stripped Willow down to her t-shirt, and put her into the bed. Stripping off his own clothes, Angelus slid in behind her. Pulling her securely into his arms, he held her. Willow needed time to regain her strength. She felt so fragile in his arms, and he knew it was all the Slayer's fault.

Willow would stay in his apartment for the time being. Changing her would wait until after he had dealt with the Slayer. He couldn't help but wonder how Xander was doing with his plan. Angelus looked forward to hearing all about it. Smiling, he settled Willow in his arms, and let himself drift to sleep.

End Part 10

Xander eyed the house from the shadows. This was going to be too easy. He waited till everything was quiet on the street, then approached the house. He knocked, then waited. The door opened, and the woman looked at him, surprised.

"Xander, this is a surprise. What are you doing here? Buffy's not here right now."

"Hello, Mrs. Summers. I really need to talk to you about something, may I come in?"

"Of course, come in."

Xander smiled as Joyce turned and entered the house. He had been counting on the fact that Buffy hadn't told her mom about his 'death' yet.

"Can I get you something to drink?"

"No, thank you."

Joyce sat across from the young man. There was something different about him, besides the fact that he was wearing leather pants. His eyes looked.....dead.

"Is something wrong, Xander?"

"I'm afraid so, Mrs. Summers. Buffy did something extremely selfish, and now others are being made to pay for her actions."

"What are you talking about?" Joyce asked.

"Do you remember Angel?"

"The college boy that tutored Buffy? My, God, he's not after her again, is he?"

Xander shook his head. "Angel was never after Buffy, Mrs. Summers. She made up that story."

"Why would she do that? Besides, he admitted that they'd been together."

"Yes, they dated, but then he broke it off. She refused to accept that, and began stalking him. But, now she's gone too far."

Joyce couldn't believe this. Why would Buffy lie about something like that?

"Angel and Willow have been seeing each other, and Buffy flipped. She lured Willow to a cabin, and locked her in. Luckily, Angel and I found Willow, but Buffy's a danger to those around her."

Joyce stood up, she didn't know what was going on, but she didn't believe for a second that Buffy would do anything to hurt Willow.

"Look, Xander, I think you better leave now. Buffy wouldn't lie to me, and she wouldn't hurt Willow."

As Joyce turned to walk to the door, Xander grabbed her from behind. Joyce stiffened in fear, and struggled to break free, but she couldn't move. {He's so strong.....too strong.}

"You're a fool, Joyce. Buffy has done nothing but lie to you. She's lied to you about her entire life. For example, Angel isn't a college student....he's a 240 year old vampire."

Joyce couldn't believe what Xander was saying. He was crazy. She had to try to reason with him.

"Xander, I don't know what's happened to you, but I can help you. We can get you help."

Xander spun Joyce around to face him. "Get me help for what? You think I'm crazy, don't you? Well, I'm not. I'm perfectly sane. But, thanks to your daughter, I've been vamped. She was so jealous of Angel's relationship with Willow, she refused to let Willow return to Angel, and he vamped me to get back at Buffy."

Joyce shook her head sadly, "Xander, please..."

"Do I have to prove it to you? I suppose I do. After all, you've been so clueless, you never realized that your daughter is the Vampire Slayer. And Giles is her Watcher. Didn't you ever wonder why she spent so much time at the library? Or why she was gone so much at night?"

Before Joyce could respond, Xander let his 'game face' appear. Joyce screamed, then fainted. Xander smirked and set Joyce down on the couch. He slapped her to wake her up.

Joyce's eyes fluttered open, and saw Xander standing in front of her. She tried to run for the door, but he caught her easily.

"Guess you believe me now, huh?"

"What are you? What do you want?" Joyce cried.

"I told you, I'm a vampire. Thanks to your selfish bitch of a daughter. And what do I want? Simple, I want to destroy Buffy."

"But, you're her friend!"

"I was, until she abadoned me. She left me to die!"

Joyce was silent. {How could Buffy not have told me about any of this? Why couldn't she have come to me?}

"What do you think of your precious daughter? Now, I plan to kill you, nothing personal, of course. See, if Buffy had been honest with you, you would've known better then to invite me in. Another death Buffy is responsible for."

"Please, don't do this!"

"So sorry....but, it has to be done." Xander said, then dipped his head to her neck. As Xander drained her completely, Joyce's last thoughts were of her daughter.

Xander set Joyce on the couch, then called Angelus.

"It's done. Not much of a challenge. She never had a clue what Buffy really did, or the true dangers of Sunnydale."

"Good, that should shake Buffy to her foundation. If it doesn't destroy her. Are you heading back to the mansion?"

"I might do a little more experimenting first, then go back."

"Fine, just remember to make sure no one recognizes you. I'll meet you at the mansion after the sun sets tomorrow. Then we go find the Slayer."

"I can't wait! See you then."

Xander left the house, and went to explore his new hunting grounds. Maybe he could find someone fun to play with. Like Harmony, or one of her followers. Xander laughed at the prospect of taunting the stuck-up Harmony, before showing her his 'new' style.

Buffy entered the house to find her mother's body. Her hysterical sreams were heard blocks away. Cradling her mother's body, Buffy vowed revenge on Angelus. He had killed for the last time! As she reached for the phone to call Giles, Buffy knew that when she fought Angelus, it would be a battle to the death. Play time was over......and only one of them could survive.

End Part 11

Willow jerked awake, the dream had been so real. She sat up and looked around the room. It wasn't the same. {Where am I?}

"Willow, are you okay?"

Willow turned toward the bathroom, and watched as Angelus emerged wearing only jeans. The tears began falling and she dropped her head into her hands.

Angelus sat down next to Willow, and pulled her into his arms. She wrapped her arms around his waist, and placed kisses on his chest.

"It was real. You came for me."

"Of course I came for you. You're mine, Willow."

Willow looked up at him, and suddenly Buffy's words came back to haunt her. {Did Angelus believe she had run from him?} Willow pulled away from Angelus and got out of bed. She walked over to the chair and sat down.

Angelus stared at Willow, confused as to why she had pulled away from him. He knew she was glad to be back with him, so what was the matter? Angelus walked over the chair, and crouched down in front of the quiet girl. He made no move to touch her.

"Willow, what's wrong?"

"I.....There's something you need to know. I won't blame you if you don't believe me. Buffy can be very convincing, and I know it looked really bad. But it wasn't how it seemed. I'd never do that to you. I want you to believe me."

Angelus had quickly lost track of what she was trying to say. He reached for her hands, and gripped them.

"Willow, you're babbling. What do you want to tell me?"

Willow stared at their hands, then whispered, "I didn't leave you."

Angelus understood. Buffy must've told her that he believed she'd run away. And now Willow was afraid that he had believed the Slayer. Angelus stood, pulling Willow to her feet. Wrapping his arms around her back, he pulled her tightly against him.

"I know that, Willow. You would never leave me."

Willow looked into his eyes, and was relieved to see that he wasn't angry. She laid her head on his chest, and rubbed circles on his back.

"Make love to me, Angelus. Please."

"You don't have to beg me, Willow."

Angelus pushed Willow backwards onto the bed. Quickly discarding his pants, Angelus covered Willow. He captured her lips while his hands removed her nightshirt. Angelus moved his hands over Willow, reacquainting himself with her body. Willow reached down to touch him, and Angelus moaned in response. Moving down her body, Angelus spread her thighs, and moved three fingers inside her. He watched as Willow thrust against his hand, then dropped his mouth to her.

Willow thrashed on the bed, and begged Angelus for release. She needed to feel him inside her, it had been too long. But, Angelus continued his assault with his hands and mouth, before finally filling her completely. The tempo was slow, and Willow thought she was going to snap. This wasn't like the other times they'd been together. He was torturing her by going so slowly, but it was an exquisite torture.

"Angelus!!"

Angelus gripped her ass, lifting her slightly. The tempo increased and Willow screamed in release. Her hands gripped Angelus' shoulders, and her legs wrapped around his waist. Angelus bent to once again capture her lips.

"No one will ever take you away from me again. This is where you belong." Angelus stated, as he reached his release.

Lying back on the bed, Angelus pulled Willow to his chest. She laid her head on his shoulder, entwining her legs with his. Angelus let one hand caress her back, while his other gripped her hand.

"Willow?"

"Hhhmm?"

"I need to leave at nightfall. While I'm gone, I want you to stay here. I don't want you leaving this apartment or letting anyone in. Do you understand that?"

"Yes. Where will you be?"

"Xander and I have something to do. Nothing to worry yourself about."

"You're going to confront Buffy, aren't you? Are you going to kill her?" Willow asked worriedly.

Angelus tilted Willow's face till she was looking directly at him.

"That isn't something you have to concern yourself with. It would be for the best if you don't question my actions. I gave Buffy the opportunity to have peace and she blew it."

"But, you don't have to kill her."

Angelus flipped them over, and looked into his lover's eyes. He saw fear in her eyes.

"Don't tell me what I have to do or don't have to do. I'll do what's necessary to put the Slayer in her place. The sooner you accept that, the better. I love you, but I won't change for you."

Willow stared into Angelus' eyes, and she saw Buffy's death in them. But, there was nothing she could do. She loved Angelus, and she had come too far to try to back away now. Willow just hoped Buffy would be smart enough to leave Sunnydale....or at least stay away from Angelus.

Angelus bent down and kissed Willow, then laid back down. He wanted to make it clear to Willow, that he was the one in charge.

"Now, get some sleep. You need your rest after what that bitch put you through."

Willow snuggled into Angelus' arms, but sleep wouldn't come. Her emotions were conflicted and she was having trouble dealing with everything that had happened. She knew that no matter what happened.....life would never be simple again.

Giles watched Buffy take out her anger on the practice dummy. She wasn't dealing with her mother's death. Instead, she was bottling up her grief, redirecting her thoughts to vengeance. So many people lost to her. He hated leaving her alone, but he needed to go check on Willow.

"Buffy, why don't you come with me? I don't like leaving you alone."

"I'll be fine, Giles. Besides, I'm the last person Willow wants to see right now. I just need time alone, okay."

"Very well, but don't do anything foolish. Like trying to confront Angelus when you're in this condition."

"That son-of-a-bitch killed my mother! I want him dead!" Buffy screamed.

"But, I'll pick my time. Just regular patrol, until an opportunity to dust him comes up." Buffy said more calmly.

"Be careful, Buffy. Even a regular patrol could be dangerous right now. You're not exactly thinking clearly right now."

"So sorry my mind's not solely focused on my job. Having my mother and two friends murdered tends to make me cranky!"

"I realize that this has been traumatic to you, just please watch yourself. Angelus could strike at any moment."

Giles left Buffy to her practicing. He hoped Willow was doing better then she had been. Those two girls would have a lot of baggage to deal with when this was over. Giles prayed it would end soon.....for all of their sakes.

End Part 12

Angelus and Xander watched as Buffy attacked some of the decoys they'd sent out. She was in a rage, and not giving the vampires a chance to do more then die.

"Wait here in the shadows. You'll know when to show yourself." Angelus told Xander.

"Won't she be surprised?" Xander said excitedly. He was still on a high from draining Joyce.

Buffy heard the approach of someone and spun around. She didn't even think about it as she attacked Angelus. But he easily avoided her attack, and sent her sprawling to the ground.

"Is that anyway to greet an old friend? Didn't your mother teach you better manners then that?"

"You bastard! Why did you have to kill my mother? She wasn't a part of this." Buffy yelled.

"I don't know what you're talking about, Slayer. I never touched your precious mother."

"Liar! You drained her. She wasn't involved in this part of my life, why couldn't you have left her alone!" Buffy stood and faced Angelus.

"Now how would I have gotten close to her, hhmm? It's not like she'd invite me in, especially after the last time we met. You made it clear to her I was some kind of creep. Unless of course, maybe I caught her outside."

Buffy stared at him. She'd never thought about the fact that whoever had killed her mother had been invited in. And her mother would never have invited Angelus into the house. {What the hell? This doesn't make any sense!}

"If you didn't do it, then you know who did. You were probably there when she was murdered!"

"Let's see....that would be a yes, and a no to the second part."

"What the hell are you talking about?"

"Yes, I know who killed your mother. No, I wasn't there when she died. I was otherwise occupied at that time. Very pleasantly occupied, I might add."

Buffy hated when he talked in riddles like that. She was certain he was trying to confuse her.

"Then tell me who killed her. I want the son-of-a-bitch to pay!"

"Such talk, Buffy. Geez, with a friend like you, who needs enemies. Is this how you talk about all your friends?"

"Enough with the damn games, Angelus. Tell me!"

"Why don't I tell you myself, Buff?" Xander asked, coming out of the shadows.

Buffy looked in surprise at her friend. As he came closer, she noticed his appearance. The truth hit her with the force of a blow.

"You're a vampire!"

"Perceptive, isn't she, Angelus. Too bad she didn't think about that possibility before I paid a visit to her mommy."

Buffy stared at the boy who had been one of her closest friends. "You killed my mother? God, you were my best friend! Now you're taking orders like some little lapdog!"

"Careful, Slayer, you might make me angry. You certainly didn't think about your 'best friend' when you left me to die! And as for taking orders, that's not exactly accurate. You see, it was my idea to kill mommy dearest. I knew how much it would hurt you. Angelus just agreed to let me do it."

Buffy ran toward Xander, only to have him grab her my the neck, lifting her slightly off the ground.

"And you know what else, buddy? She was good to the last drop." Xander laughed, then kissed Buffy hard, before throwing her to the ground.

Buffy jumped to her feet, and stared at her former lover and her former friend. The feelings she had for the two men clouded what she needed to do. She had to find a way to seperate her feelings for who they used to be, and what they were now. That would be the only way she would be able to destroy them.

"This isn't finished. I'll make you pay for what you've done. And Angelus....I'll make sure you never see Willow again!"

Angelus and Xander glanced at each other and started laughing. They began walking away from the confused Slayer.

"You can try, Buffy. But, something tells me you'll fail at that......just like you've failed at everything else lately." Angelus taunted.

Buffy watched as the two vampires disappeared into the night. She turned and headed back to the library. They needed to move Willow quickly.

"Giles, we've got more trouble!"

"I know that, Buffy." Giles said.

"No, you don't understand. Angelus didn't kill my mother....Xander did. He's been vamped. We have to move Willow before they can get to her." Buffy responded.

"I'm afraid we're too late. Willow's already gone."

"NOOOO!!!" Buffy yelled, then dropped to the floor. {I won't lose another friend......I can't!}

End Part 13

"I've got to find her, Giles. Before Angelus can change her."

"Buffy, you have to face the facts. She's probably already....."

"No! She's not a vampire. If he had already vamped her, Angelus would've rubbed that in my face tonight. He's got her, but she's fine. She has to be."

Giles watched his Slayer sadly. The past weeks had taken their toll on her, and she was hanging on by a thread. She needed something to hold onto.....something to fight for. And that was her desire to save Willow. And Giles had to admit that it was a definite possibility that Willow was alive.....and still human. Angelus' behavior and actions concerning the young hacker had been out of character.

"Alright, let's say she's alright. Angelus isn't just going to hand her over to us. So, how do you plan on finding her?"

"He's got her at his apartment. That's the only logical place for him to go. He wouldn't want to risk having her with Spike and Dru. Besides, he thinks I'm so preoccupied with everything else, that I wouldn't even remember his place."

"There's still the problem of how to get her away from him." Giles stated.

"I'll watch the apartment till he leaves, then go in and get her. Once she learns what he did to Xander......what happened to my mom, she'll leave with me."

Buffy walked away and began working out. She wanted to work on trying to block out her emotions, so that she'd be able to destroy those who had once been closest to her. Her focus would be on getting Willow away from Sunnydale safely. Away from the horrible memories. And Buffy knew that when she took Willow away......neither one of them would ever return to Sunnydale. Too many things had happened to both of them. They would need a fresh start. Buffy only prayed Giles would understand what she needed to do.

Angelus and Xander were filling Spike in on their confrontation with the Slayer, when Dru entered the room. She walked over to stand beside Spike.

"Miss Edith was right about him, wasn't she, Daddy?"

"Yeah, Dru, changing him was a good idea." Angelus said.

Xander just eyed the vampiress. He had always feared her before, but now he was just amused at her ramblings.

"What about my sister? You haven't brought her home to play yet."

"Patience, Dru. I'll bring Willow here when I'm ready to, and not before. Why don't you run along now?" Angelus said firmly.

Dru whimpered, then left the room quickly.

"What happens now? You have your woman back, the Slayer is vulnerable, when do we attack?" Spike asked.

"We let her make the next move. But when she does, we'll be waiting for her."

"And how the bloody hell are we supposed to know what she's going to do next?" Spike asked his sire.

"Simple. She's going to try to rescue Willow. By now she's figured out that Willow's at my apartment. We let her make her move, only she'll be surprised when she finds you and Xander in the apartment....not Willow."

"Really? And what do we get to do to her?" Xander asked.

"Since I'm in such a generous mood, I'll let you two fight that out between yourselves. The only rule is you can't kill her yet. Have your fun with her, then bring her back here." Angelus told them.

"I'm liking this plan. So, when do we get to play?" Xander asked.

"I've already moved Willow, so you can start tomorrow. The only thing I don't know is when she'll show up. But my guess would be the sooner the better. She'll want to get Willow away from me before I do anything to her."

"To late for that, mate." Spike snickered.

Angelus ignored the blond vampire. He was anxious to get back to Willow. They had a lot of time to make up for.

"Just remember what I said.....no killing the Slayer. Anything else is fine."

Angelus left the two vampires bickering about who would get first crack at the Slayer. Spike figured he had seniority and Xander figured he had the right for vengeance. The fight escalated into an all out fist fight, while Dru appeared in the doorway, bouncing up and down, cheering.

Angelus shook his head at their childish antics. They could act like little boys if they wanted to, but he had more grown up activities in mind. He headed to the hotel where he had dropped Willow off earlier in the evening. His smile broadened at the thought of the fun he and Willow were going to have.

End Part 14

The first thing Angelus noticed when he entered the hotel room, was the total darkness. As he glanced around the room, it became obvious that Willow wasn't there. He was about to go find her when he noticed a thin sliver of light coming from underneath the bathroom door. Angelus opened the door, not prepared for the sight that greeted him.

"Willow?" Angelus stepped toward the girl.

"Stay.....away!"

Angelus stopped, as he watched Willow bring the knife closer to her wrist. He didn't want to risk making a grab for the knife, it was too close to cutting her. As slowly as possible, Angelus moved to sit on the edge of the tub. This put him closer to where Willow sat.

"What are you doing Willow?"

Willow looked at Angelus, and a sad smile appeared on her face. "Probably what I should've done a long time ago. If I had, none of this would've happened."

"Willow, you haven't done anything wrong. Now, why don't you hand me the knife." Angelus said as he held out his hand to her.

"NO! Don't you see, this is the way it's supposed to end. I can't bring back Cordelia...or Buffy's mom....or make Xander human again, but I can make things better. With me gone, you and Buffy won't have to fight each other....and, you....." Willow's voice caught.

Angelus watched Willow's trembling hands, as her tears began to fall. The blade pricking her skin with each sob. He had to get the knife away from her before she did any damage.

"Buffy and I were fighting before you ever got involved with me, and we'll continue to fight until one of us is dead. We're enemies, that's how it works. What were you trying to say about me, Willow?"

"If I were dead, you'd be free. You wouldn't be stuck with me." Willow answered.

"Who said anything about being stuck with you? Willow, you know how I feel about you. I don't want to be free."

Willow looked at Angelus and saw the truth in his eyes, but it didn't comfort her much. Everything that had happened to her friends was because of her. She was the one to blame for all the misery.....and all the deaths. Her eyes lingered on the knife in her hand. She knew Angelus would stop her before she could slit both wrists, but what about plunging it into her stomach. {Would that kill me? Do I even have the guts to try it?}

The way Willow was staring at the knife was making Angelus nervous. He knew she hadn't quite been herself since he rescued her from the cabin, but he hadn't realized that she had slipped into such a depressive state. {Damn Buffy to Hell for doing this to you.}

Angelus saw Willow change her hold on the weapon, and was able to grab the knife away from her before it connected with her body. Throwing the knife in the tub, Angelus grabbed Willow and pulled her into his arms, as they both sunk to the floor.

Willow began shaking uncontrollably. Angelus held her tightly in his arms, stroking her hair. He couldn't understand the words she was mumbling, but he was certain she was blaming herself. Punishing herself for things she had no control over.

"Willow, you need to let go of your guilt....or self-hate, or whatever it is you're feeling. None of this is your fault. You want to blame someone, take your pick. You can blame me for coming to you in the first place; you can blame Buffy for not accepting my truce; you can blame Xander for not being there when you needed him. We all shoulder responsibility for what happened.....but not you."

Willow refused to speak, but at least her sobs had subsided. He continued stroking her hair, while his other hand moved reassuringly across her back. Angelus rested his chin on her head, and continued.

"You are the only one who is blameless in this whole business. Buffy and I put you in the middle of our war, and we were only concerned with winning. Neither one of us thought about how this would affect you. And Buffy made it worse by kidnapping you, then lying to you. She let her jealousy guide her actions. Everything she did was to keep you away from me.....becaue she didn't want you to have what she'd lost."

Angelus felt Willow's hands clench in his shirt. Her shaking had stopped, and her breathing was returning to normal. She was in a delicate frame of mind, and he needed to play this very carefully. He wanted her to turn against Buffy, but he didn't want her to slip over the edge.

"You aren't the only one she's hurt, Willow. She could've warned Cordelia that there was danger, but she didn't. She could've saved Xander, but she didn't. She didn't even warn her own mother about the dangers that existed. Buffy was looking out for herself, and because of that has ruined the lives of those around her. I won't let you take the blame that rightfully belongs to the Slayer."

"But she's my friend." Willow said softly.

"I wouldn't want a friend who would lock me up just because she didn't want to see me with her ex. She's wrecked so many lives, don't let her wreck ours."

When Willow didn't respond, Angelus stood, and carried Willow into the bedroom. Covering her in the sheets, Angelus crawled in behind her, pulling her tightly against him. He wrapped his arms around Willow, gripping the hands she had folded tightly against her chest. His thumbs caressed her hands, but she didn't move.

Angelus didn't move for several hours, then he stood to look out the window. Willow had eventually fallen asleep, but she hadn't spoken another word. Nor had she acknowledged his presence. Her body had been in his arms, but that was all. She had disappeared inside herself, and he hadn't been able to reach her. He'd have to keep a closer eye on her until he could come up with a way to bring her back.

Angelus turned to stare at the woman in the bed. In sleep, she looked at peace. He'd be damned if he'd watch her slip farther away from him. Maybe talking to Xander would help. After all, they had been friends for a long time. As Angelus slipped back into bed, he decided to have Xander talk to her. It was worth a shot. Angelus pulled Willow into his arms, then let himself drift into a troubled sleep.

End Part 15

Giles waited till after sunset, but saw no sign of Angelus. He had convinced Buffy to let him check out Angel's apartment. It was more practical for her to continue her regular routine, in case Angelus was watching her. After waiting an hour, Giles decided to chance going into the building. It was quite possible that Angelus had stayed at the mansion. Giles wasn't convinced that Angelus would be stupid enough to keep Willow in an apartment the Slayer knew about.....and knew intimately. But, he wouldn't rule anything out. Very little that Angelus had done lately made sense.

Giles entered the building, and carefully pressed his ear against the apartment door. There was no sound coming from inside, and no light shining through the bottom of the door. Using the key Buffy gave him, he carefully opened the door. Holding a stake in one hand, he used his other hand to turn on the light. The room appeared to be empty. Giles entered, but found himself shoved onto the floor, as he heard the door slam. Looking up, he saw Xander.

"Hello, Rupert." Xander said sarcastically.

Giles tried to get to his feet, but Xander kicked him in the gut, dropping Giles back to the ground. Xander bent down, and picked up the stake.

"Don't think you'll be needing that, old man. Now, where the hell is Buffy?" Xander looked down at the man.

"Go to hell!" Giles yelled.

"Wrong answer." Xander kicked Giles again.

"Don't kill him yet, mate. He may still be useful."

Giles looked up to see that Spike had come to stand beside Xander. Giles refused to let himself appear weak. Pushing himself back to the wall, he pushed himself into a standing position.

"You may as well kill me. I won't tell you anything!"

"Tough words......for a librarian. Or a Watcher for that matter." Spike approached Giles, and puched him.

Giles fought to retain his balance, and tried to attack the vampire. Spike laughed as he threw the Watcher into a wall. Giles crumpled to the floor, unconscious.

"Let's just kill him, and go find the Slayer."

"Patience, boy. I think I'm going to take our little Watcher here back to the mansion. Give Dru a new toy to play with. She does so love to play.....but, I must constantly find her new toys. They never tend to last very long."

Xander laughed as Spike went over to pick up the Watcher's body. Xander decided to go back with Spike. He was curious to see Dru's reaction to her gift. But, after that, he intended to find the Slayer....and have his own fun.

"Spike, you're back! Where's the Slayer?" Dru asked.

"She didn't show up, love. But, I did bring you something."

"Ohhh, you brought me a present! What is it?" Dru asked excitedly.

Spike led Dru to the couch, where they had dropped Giles' body. Dru gave Spike a quick kiss, then walked over to her gift.

"He's all mine? And I can play with him?"

"That's right, love. You can anything you want to him."

Dru ordered Giles taken to her 'play room', and began bouncing up and down in excitement.

"Thank you, Spike. I want to go play now."

Spike nodded, and watched Dru skip off towards the unsuspecting Watcher.

"How long do you think he'll last?" Xander asked.

Spike threw himself onto the couch, and stretched out. "Not long. Dru doesn't play nice."

Xander had started to leave, when the phone rang.

"What?"

"Nice way to answer the phone. Kids today have no manners."

"Hello, Mr. Angelus, sir. What can I do for you this fine evening?" Xander replied sarcastically.

"Did you get the Slayer?"

"No, she didn't show up. She sent the Watcher in her place,so Spike gave him as a present to Dru."

"Well, once again Buffy screwed up, and someone else is paying the price. I almost pity the poor man. Almost."

"Is that the only reason you called, Angelus. To check up on us?"

"No, something's happened with Willow. I need you to talk to her."

"About what?" Xander questioned.

"Just get to the hotel, room 340. I'll tell you when you get here."

"Fine, I'm on my way." Xander slammed down the phone, swearing under his breath. So much for tracking down the Slayer.

"Problems?" Spike asked.

"Don't know, but daddy calls."

Spike laughed as he resumed his nap. Sounds of screaming could be heard through the mansion. {Guess that means the Watcher woke up.}

Dru ran her hands over Giles' bare stomach. He looked so yummy chained on the table. She watched him intently, then smiled to herself.

"Ms Edith says that you aren't all you seem to be. She says that there is a darkness in you."

Giles stared at the ceiling. His whole body burned from the whip she'd used earlier. He flinched as she pressed hard on his stomach.

"Ms Edith says we should let the darkness free. Would you like that?"

Giles turned to look at her, an unpleasant thought entering his mind. {Get a grip, Giles. There's nothing she can do.}

"I think I'd like that. You'll like the darkness, I promise."

Giles watched as Dru began mixing ingredients into a cup. She stopped when she saw him watching her. Picking up a leather strap, she beat Giles until he lost consciousness. Then, Dru walked back and resumed her work.

"Can't have him watching me, now can I? It made me nervous."

After she finished mixing her potion, Dru walked back to Giles. She set the cup next to him, then kissed him.

"You'll be a new man when you wake up. Won't daddy and the others be surprised?"

Dru laughed as she began her ritual. She couldn't wait until Angelus saw what she'd done. He'd be so proud of her. And Spike, too. She'd have to point out that she hadn't broken her new toy....just improved him.

End Part 16

Angelus opened the door, scowling. "You certainly took your time."

"Sorry, didn't realize I was being timed. What's up?" Xander asked.

Angelus invited Xander into the hotel room, and nodded towards Willow. She stood on the other side of the room, gazing out the window. Angelus told Xander about Willow's suicide attempt.

"So, why didn't you just change her instead? She may have welcomed it."

"And have another Dru on my hands? No thank you. When I decide to change her, she'll be thinking sensibly. Now, I need to go check on things at the mansion. I want you to stay here and talk to her. And do not leave her alone."

"What about the Slayer?" Xander asked, not wanting to miss out on the fun.

"Just concern yourself with getting Willow back to normal. Don't worry, nothings going to happen with the Slayer tongiht, so you won't miss anything."

Angelus took a final look at Willow, then turned to leave. He stopped and looked at Xander.

"If anything happens to Willow, I'll kill you myself. Understand?"

"Perfectly."

Xander watched Angelus leave, then turned toward Willow. She hadn't said anything since he'd arrived. {Time to play best buddy.} Putting on what he hoped was a concerned expression, Xander walked over to stand next to Willow.

"Will? Talk to me."

"Just leave me alone." Willow whispered.

"I can't do that. You're my best friend, and you tried to kill yourself. I want to help you."

"You can't. Don't you see that you're part of the reason I did it? I know Angelus told you to come here, but you don't have to stay."

Xander knew that if he wasn't able to help Willow, Angelus would be angry. And then Angelus might leave him out of the fun of hunting down Buffy. Taking Willow by the shoulders, he turned her to face him.

"I'm not leaving. Whether you believe me or not, I'm still your friend. Let me help you."

Willow looked up into his eyes, then bent her head. The tears began falling, and she whispered something too softly for him to understand. Lifting her chin, he wiped away her tears.

"What?"

"I'm sorry, Xander. You must hate me, and I don't blame you."

"Will, I don't hate you. Why would I?"

"Because what happened to you was my fault. By becoming involved with Angelus, I put you in danger. And now I have to live with that guilt."

"Will, stop it. I told you before, this is Buffy's fault. She refused to help me when I needed her most. Buffy had no business interfering in your life. She was just jealous, and didn't care who she hurt. Stop beating yourself up over something that wasn't your fault."

"I'm just so confused, Xander. Everything's happened so fast, and I feel like I'm all alone."

"You're not alone, Willow. I'll always be here for you. Best friends forever. Isn't that what we always promised each other? Now, come on, smile for me."

Willow looked at Xander, and for the first time since this had all started, she felt a little relieved. {Maybe this isn't all my fault. If Xander doesn't blame me for what happened, why am I blaming myself?}

Xander smiled as Willow did as he asked. Angelus would be happy with the progress he'd made with Willow. He pulled her into a hug.

"Now, I want you to quit with the guilt trips. You're going to make yourself sick, punishing yourself for nothing. Besides, you're scaring hell out of Angelus."

"I am?"

"He's afraid that he's losing you. Not to another person, but losing you all the same. He said you've been distant....pushing him away. He's hurting too, Willow."

"I didn't mean to hurt him." Willow said softly.

"I know that. So does he, but the way you've been acting has really been hard on him. He's starting to think you blame him for what's happened."

"Oh, no, that's not true. I've never blamed him. It's me that I've been blaming. I thought it would be better for him if I weren't around anymore."

"Willow, talk to him. Say these things to him, he really needs to hear them."

"Thanks, Xander. I've missed you."

"Me too, Will."

Xander stood with Willow in his arms. Well, he had done what he could. He had gotten her to stop feeling guilty about what happened him. And helped show her that the other things weren't her fault either, but she hadn't completely let go of that blame. Xander was pleased with his performance. His thoughts drifted to when he would face the Slayer.

Willow held onto Xander tightly. Despite being a vampire, he was still her best friend. He made her see that she shouldn't be shouldering all the blame herself. She needed to talk to Angelus, and apologize for hurting him. But first, she needed to confront Buffy.

"Xander, you don't have to stay here. I'm fine."

"I promised Angelus I wouldn't leave you alone."

"Xander, I won't try to kill myself again. I swear. I just really need some time alone to think before Angelus returns. Please?"

Xander was about to refuse, knowing Angelus would be furious when he returned and found Willow alone. But, if he left now, maybe he'd find Buffy before Angelus got to her. He'd have some fun with her, then present her to Angelus. That should get him off the hook for leaving Willow alone.

"Alright, but remember it's my neck on the line. Angelus wanted me to stay with you."

"I'll make sure he understands. Thank you, Xander."

Xander nodded, then left. Willow quickly dressed, then left the hotel. She needed to find Buffy, and talk to her about what had happened.

"Welcome back, mate. How's the little lady?" Spike asked.

"She's fine. What's going on here?"

"Dru's just been playing with her new toy. But, I haven't heard anything out him for quite a while. Maybe she's killed him already." Spike replied.

"No, I didn't. This time I didn't break my toy. I made him better." Dru answered from the hallway.

"What are you talking about Dru?" Angelus asked.

Dru motioned behind her, and they watched as a man approached. Angelus stared in shock at the man. Dressed in torn jeans and a t-shirt, he didn't resemble the sensible Watcher.

"What the hell is this, Dru?" Angelus demanded.

"Daddy, don't you want me to introduce you?"

"I already know who he is."

"No, daddy, you don't. Why don't you tell daddy your name?"

Staring at the vampire, the man laughed at the look of confusion on his face.

"The name's Ripper."

Angelus and Spike exchanged a stunned look. The man didn't even talk like Giles. They both looked to Dru for an answer. Dru proceded to tell about Giles' past, and his dark side. Then she explained how she'd used an ancient ritual to cage the personality of Giles, thus freeing Ripper. The spell was irreversible.

"Giles is dead and gone. Just like Angel." Ripper stated.

"You know about Angel?" Spike asked.

"I remember everything Giles did and thought. Just like Angelus remembers Angel's actions. Now they're gone and we're here. I'd say we have a lot in common."

"Nice to meet you, Ripper." Angelus smiled, then shook Ripper's hand.

{Score another shot against the Slayer.} Buffy had lost her last friend. She was alone, and vulnerable. Just the way Angelus wanted her. Now, if Xander had done his part with Willow, everything would be back on track.

End Part 17

Willow was getting frustrated. She had looked everywhere for Buffy and hadn't found her. She decided to check the park again, then head back to the library. Maybe Giles would be back from wherever he went by then.

Willow approached the park and saw Buffy sitting on the picnic table. Gathering up her courage, Willow walked over to stand in front of Buffy.

"Hello, Buffy. I think we need to talk."

Buffy looked at Willow, then nodded her head. The expression on Buffy's face was unreadable.

"I'm surprised Angelus let you out of his sight. Or has he gotten tired of you now? I mean, after all, he's killed or taken away almost everyone I ever loved or counted on. What use could he have left for you?"

"I didn't come here to exchange insults with you Buffy. We need to talk about what happened."

"Oh, that. Ok, let's talk about the fact that Cordelia and my mom are dead because you were stupid enough to get involved with Angelus. And that Xander is a god-damn demon because you were desperate for attention. Is that what you think we should talk about?"

"Quit it! Why are blaming all of this on me? I feel guilty enough for what happened, without having you point it out to me. But what about you? Don't you take any responsibility for what's happened?"

"Me? Why the hell should I feel guilty? All I did was try to save my friend's life. To protect her from her own stupidity."

"My life wasn't in danger, and who appointed you my guardian? If you hadn't tried to control my life, none of this would've happened. Angelus was willing to accept a truce, until you kidnapped me. He fought back the only way he knew how. What did you expect him to do? Just accept that I had left, and go on about his life?"

"You're delusional, you know that, right? You believe every line he's ever fed you. Haven't you figured it out yet? Everything he's told you has been a lie. Angelus saw you as a way to get to me. I was what he was after the entire time."

Willow backed away slightly from her friend. The look in Buffy's eyes told Willow everything she needed to know. Xander was right. {Everything Buffy did was because she was jealous of me.....of the relationship I had with Angelus.}

"My God, Buffy. Believe it or not, the world doesn't revolve around you. Angelus wants me, that's why he came to me that night. And I believe he cares about me now."

"Then you're more of a fool then I thought. But, it won't matter for much longer. Angelus is as good as dead. I won't let what he did to me slide. He's ruined my life, and I'll repay him by ending his."

Buffy stood and began walking away from Willow. She stopped, but didn't turn around.

"Don't get in my way, Willow. I won't let anything or anyone stop me from killing that bastard."

Willow stood there for several moments. She had thought talking to Buffy would make things better, but it had only succeeded in making them worse. Because now Willow knew that although a part of Buffy was concerned about her safety, jealousy was the emotion that had guided Buffy's actions. And now that had turned to rage. Willow had to find a way to keep Buffy and Angelus away from each other. She wasn't prepared to watch either one of them die.

Willow ran off towards the cemetary, hoping to find Xander. Maybe together they could come up with a way to solve this problem.

Xander watched as Buffy staked a newly risen vampire, and then clapped. Buffy spun around to face the intruder.

"Bravo, Buffy. Excellent work. You've still got what it takes, Slayer." Xander let his eyes roam over Buffy suggestively.

"Go to hell, Xander. You didn't get it when you were alive, and you sure as hell aren't getting it now!"

"Buffy, I'm hurt...really, I am. Of course, who said anything about you having a choice? Angelus just said to bring you back alive. He doesn't care what condition you're in, as long as you aren't dead."

"Then come on, big boy. Try it. I have to meet someone, so make it quick."

Xander leaned against a tree, and smiled. "Well, if it's Giles you're supposed to meet, I'm afraid he's gotta cancel."

"What are you talking about?" Buffy asked suspiciously.

"Well, since you didn't show up at Angel's apartment, Spike and I had to settle for your Watcher. That really bummed me out, it wasn't any fun at all."

"Where is he? What have you done with him?" Buffy yelled.

"I wanted to kill him, but Spike decided to give him to Dru. And I must say, she's been having a hell of a time with him. She has such a warped idea of fun, don't you think?"

Buffy attacked Xander, throwing him to the ground, then straddling him. "Where is he?"

"At the mansion, of course. But, don't worry, you'll be joining him soon. That's if he's still alive when you get there."

Buffy smashed her fist into his face, then picked him up the jacket. "Now, we're going to get Giles."

Xander backhanded Buffy, and she fell against the tree. "I don't think so, Slayer. First, you and I are going to have some fun......then I turn you over to Angelus."

As Xander approached, Buffy broke off a branch, and plunged it into his heart. "Dream on!"

Xander exploded into dust.

Buffy looked at the ground, then dropped to her knees. "Rest in peace, Xander."

Willow stood in the shadows, and watched as Buffy killed Xander. Willow felt numb, she couldn't even cry out. She turned and ran, never looking back. The picture of Buffy killing her best friend was imbeded in Willow's mind as she tried to run away from the horror.

End Part 18

"So, Ripper, what do you plan to do now?" Angelus asked.

"Oh, I don't know. There's so many choices, now that I'm free of Giles. Damn but that man was a real killjoy. But, one thing I know, I don't plan on ever stepping foot into a library again. Shit, I've had to practically live there for too many years. Putting up with snot nosed kids and the damn Slayer."

"You can help us rid the world of the Slayer, if you'd like."

"No thanks, I think I'll leave that little pain in the ass to you. I think I'm going to try to find an old friend of mine. He always has great ideas on having fun."

"And who might that be?" Angelus asked.

"Ethan Rayne. That stunt he pulled on Halloween was a blast. Too bad Giles stepped in and screwed it up."

"That was quite the adventure. If you find him, bring him back here. Once we get rid of the Slayer, Sunnydale will belong to us."

"I just might do that, my boy. There's people in this town who really need to be taught a lesson." Ripper said.

Ripper lit up a cigarette, and stared at the vampire. He knew that Giles had always been envious of Angel, and hated Angelus for what he'd done to that Calander woman. But, Ripper liked him. They were very much alike, indeed.

"So, what do you plan to do with the little hacker? I could deal with her for you." Ripper said. The expression on Ripper's face let Angelus know exactly how he'd *deal* with Willow.

"Willow is off limits. She belongs to me." Angelus stated firmly.

Ripper held his hands up in front of him, and smirked. "Just offering. She that hot in bed, huh? Never would've thought it of her."

"Just remember what I said, Ripper. Stay away from Willow. You want to get laid, then go find someone else. There's a whole town of women for you to pick from."

Ripper watched Angelus leave the mansion. "Yep, she must be really great in the sack." Ripper said to himself. Well, he'd respect Angelus' claims. But, he had been without a woman for quite some time, thanks to Giles. Ripper smiled to himself as he thought of someone. {Yes, she'll do nicely.} Ripper grabbed a coat, then headed for the Bronze.

Angelus entered the empty hotel room, and yelled in rage. {Damn, Xander. He couldn't obey the simplest orders.}

"Willow, where the hell are you?" Angelus said to the room. Then he turned and slammed the door behind him. He had an idea where she might be. {And she better be safe. If she's hurt, I'll kill that little prick!}

Angelus found Willow on the hilltop overlooking Sunnydale. He smiled at the memories of the last time they'd been here.

"Willow, what are you doing here? You were supposed to stay at the hotel with Xander."

Willow was sitting on the grass, knees pulled up to her chest. She had her arms wrapped around her legs, and leaned her chin on her knees.

"He's dead."

Angelus walked over and sat down next to her. "What?"

"Xander's dead.....Buffy killed him. Staked him through the heart."

"Tell me what happened."

Willow told Angelus about her talk with Xander. And how she had gone to talk to Buffy, and Buffy's cool behavior towards her. Willow's voice caught as she talked about watching Xander die.

Angelus pulled Willow into his arms. She wasn't crying, or trembling......she just sat there calmly.

"It's over Angelus."

"What's over?" Angelus asked.

"The life I knew. Xander's......gone, and my relationship with Buffy can never be the same again. Not after seeing her kill Xander. I know he was a vampire, but he was still my best friend. He was still Xander."

Angelus stroked her hair, then smiked. He had been trying to figure out a way to turn Willow against Buffy, but now he wouldn't need to. Buffy had done an excellent job of destroying their friendship all by herself.

"Willow, I think I need to take you back to the mansion with me. I don't trust Buffy. And you won't have to worry about Spike and Dru, they won't bother you."

"Whatever. But, there's something you need to know. Buffy is more determined to kill you then ever."

"I figured that, little one. She has a lot of reasons to hate me."

Willow lifted her head to look at Angelus' handsome face. She reached up and touched his lips. He placed a kiss on her fingertips.

"I can't lose you, too."

Angelus tightened his hold, and kissed her. "You aren't going to lose me. I promise."

Angelus stood, and brought Willow to her feet. He wrapped his arm around her waist, and they headed back to the mansion. Willow leaned her head against his shoulder, and sighed. She knew that she would do whatever it took to keep Angelus alive. He was all that she had left, and she'd be damned if she let Buffy take him away from her.....like she took away Xander.
